BMW 5 Series F10 Problems to Expect

- Whether you are looking for a BMW 528i, BMW 535i or a BMW 550i you should know which problems to expect on BMW F10 5 series cars. I summarize the biggest problems and issues with each model of the car as well as split the F10 problems based on the years as a lot changed over the years. BMW 5 series went through a facelift or a LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) where it got newer and improved engines, more modern styling and boost in power in most cases. BMW has also solved some of the problems along the way so you can expect the newer cars to be much more reliable than the older cars.

You spent more time discussing the frightening issues than the benefits. Very honest review. The preventative maintenance list is no joke. Yes, we love this car. But geez, that is a lot of PM & CM to think about.
The F10 5 series is my favorite looking 5 seseries.
I agree! I wish I had the m sport bumper, but other than that it’s a good looking car. Previous series was too bubbly and the new one looks like pretty much any other car on the road.
@@SimpleCarGuy yea i don't really like the exterior of the mew 5 series i think bmw should have kept the 5 series f10 body style the inly thing that needed to be updated were the taillights but the F10 body could have went another 5 years just fine.
@@SimpleCarGuy wrong the e60 was a good looking car even the new ones look cool not like evry other car who cares about yor opinion.
Fair point, it’s just my opinion and everyone feels different about these cars. If you like it, enjoy it!
I love the look of this car, I’m actually looking to grab one this upcoming summer. The main thing I like about the newer 5 series is the headlight design. I just really like the new headlights for whatever reason. 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Extremely helpful, straight to the info video, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Looking into a 2014 535i x drive. This video was very helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi SimpleCarGuy, Thank you for this video. I am in the process of looking at F10 5s right now and your video helped cement my desire for a 535i. I also have a dk blue met/tan Z4 (E85)! Thanks! +1!
Sounds like we have similar taste in cars! BMW f10 535i is an excellent car, especially of you got for the LCI version.
Thanks for watching and let me know what you get!
This video is the most honest review of the 5 series I’ve come across.
be aware of the coils, the original ones for BMW are with the white cap on the top of the coil, the black ones are aftermarket and are not so good especially if your car is tuned!
I like you bro. Nice and humble with good info. Keep it up my g
Thanks for the compliment! Appreciate you watching!!

Thank you so much for this video!!!!!
Good video; well narrated! Thank you!
Much appreciated!
Hey bro thanks for taking the time to answer questions, you have patience as well I've seen the same question asked 20 times lol

@@SimpleCarGuy Unfortunately, no! But I am still saving up for it. Actually thinking of the M140i. I will see!

Very helpful….acquired a 528i tytytyty!!!
I've had my 550i 6speed manual (M sport) for a long time. I love it! Still looks like brand new.
Can you give us a run down of your starting mileage/yearly mileage and running costs?
no problems lol ?
Change your oil every 6k. The engines need it!!
Very detailed and informative thanks
Glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching
I own the 2014 528i with M Sport kit supercharged twin turbo engine. Bought it brand new and never experienced an issue at all except that you have to change the engine mount after 5 years because you will start to hear some noise when shifting the gear from N to D but changing the engine mount fixed the issue completely. Sensors and everything is great on this car.
Thanks for the feedback! I haven't had many problems myself, either. Hopefully they keep running for many years to come.
big ups from your northside Chicago brother! Beam team bout it 💪
Chicago represent!
Glad to see a video about these cars!
Mine is a 2011. So far, I’ve replaced ignition coils, battery (it had to be programmed to the car), starter replaced, oil leak at oil filter housing, belt tensioner, and now needs a new radiator.
How long have you had the car and which engine do you have? I think that would help people in the future. Thanks for providing the info. Honestly doesn’t sound too bad if the car has a good amount of miles.
Also, you can program the battery yourself with one of these instead of paying the dealer:
Autel AP200: amzn.to/2Sr8lOd
Hey! Will the battery being dead/not programmed stop the engine from spinning?
If it’s dead, the engine will not start, definitely. It should still start if it’s charged up but not programmed
@@SimpleCarGuy Thanks for the reply !! I have a 528i 2012 & one day it just suddenly killed. I replaced the battery with a brand new one but I did not know about the programming! I wonder if that has anything to do with it
@@Guwap oh yes, if you don't register a new battery, it will usually die in 6-12 months due to improper charging.
I’m looking to a pre-owned 2014-2017 535i, that’s why I’m watching this video. Thank you so much for this, you’re very informative.
That's the best years to get, best tech and most reliable. Thanks for watching and glad you found it useful!
Just purchased the 2016 535i 55,000 miles 3 days ago. In the shop now at BMW because a light came on Battery Not Charging. Pulley belt failed, drive belt was torn which made the alternator not charge the battery. So far $1644.00 to repair and I’m out of town traveling. Thank goodness the dealership I purchased it from is going to pay by credit card to repair this failure. Glad I found a BMW dealership that gave me a loaner for the night. My next BMW will be under 50,000 miles when I purchase it.

That sounds like a great selection of cars you had there! Unfortunately, we only have a 535d here and they aren’t very popular at all. Don’t think I’ve seen more than a couple, ever. How do you like the new generation cars, both of them sound badass.

Another f10 brother! And local! I have a f10 535i xdrive FBO and tuned by BM3. I'm in Illinois(Hoffman estates area) also! great video, I've been waiting for videos shedding light on the f10! I rarely found any videos on it when I ot mine 3 years ago. Look forward to more vids!
It's good to see some love for the F10s! They may be a big car, but it's still a great fun to drive. Did you tune it yourself? I'd love more info on it and I've always wanted to put a tune on it.

i have an e60 550i and this video helped me decide i need turbos
Thanks for watching!
Yea this video definitely changed my mind on getting a 2014 550i
I am thinking about getting 2013 550 x drive do you think all these issues will arrive after 100,000
I want the 2014 model
2014 is a great car, just don't go any older.
I’ve had the 2012 528i X drive with the N20 engine for a little over 6 months. So far just the valve cover gasket, all 4 rotars and breaks, and oil change. All of which I’ve done myself
That’s not too bad, brakes are a consumable so that’s normal. Glad you got the valve cover done yourself. Thanks for watching!
My F07 GT535i valve cover gasket cost Me 510£ :(
@@SimpleCarGuy if you want to save your brakes, turn the DSC OFF by holding the Dynamic Traction Control button for 5 seconds. Downsides are that you obviously need to then be able to drive the car yourself without electronic assistance (abs still works) and if you turn cruise control on, the DSC goes on again, it also goes on again after every startup. This makes a pretty big difference on how fast your brake pads and discs wear. I don't recommend this to people who don't know how to drive without electronic aids. This applies to both RWD and xDrive models.
Another tip i can give is to always turn the start&stop feature OFF when you start the car, it's just completely unnecessary wear on your starter motor, your engine and your turbochargers. Fuel and oil are cheap, turbochargers, engines and starter motors are not.
That car looks like it could be a 2019 model.
Thank you! I love this beast like no other car.
Really? It looks like a 2011 2012 vehicle to me.
BMW has been selling this generation for way too long
@@ZDY66666 The look is slightly different between the pre-LCI and after. Honestly, people keep asking if it's a 2-3 year old car still.
@@SimpleCarGuy this particular 5 series probably won't look old until the late 2020s. Bmw did a great job with the design of this car.

My 2015 550ix is at 45k miles. No real issues yet. Just got a route 66 extended warranty up to 120k for 3 grand. Hoping they'll come through when something goes. Oil changes every 5k should be considered a must do.
2014+ models are really much much more reliable and if you do the oil changes and other maintenance properly, it will last a loong time!
I’m looking at a 2014 550i with 58k miles on it. Thanks for this!
Just bought 528 i one with 54k I’m satisfied thus far
I’ve owned the 2009-E60, 2014-F10 and the 2018-F90 M5’s .
The F10 was the most enjoyable with the least issues, other then regular maintenance I replaced 1 coil pack in 4 yrs. under warranty.
I haven't had many issues with mine either. If you take care of them, they will last! How do you like the F90 M5? I've been looking for either an m550i or M5.
My 2016 F10 535i x drive M sport fully loaded w adaptive led’s is a beast

@@gazamisheawoh Congratulations! What are your specs?
@@SimpleCarGuy 2016 535i xdrive m sport , almost maxed on options
@@gazamisheawoh hey guys, how are your cars holding up? Found a 535i xDrive, almost identical to yours. Would greatly appreciate a response, thank you!
Excellent video! From what I understand, basically get 535i or 550i that is 2014 or newer and you'll be avoiding all the problems.
Exactly! Earlier 550i are also decent cars as long as the work has been done to them. Thank you for watching.
I have 535i M Sport only issue I've had was the valve cover gasket leaking oil. I replaced it and also replaced the charge pipe because they're known to bust. besides that I've had no issues out of the car so far. They're great cars you have to drive them and not baby them
That doesn't sound too bad at all. I've been pretty lucky with mine as well (knock on wood), no major issues. I've put 40,000+ miles on it so far and I do NOT baby it at all.
Thank you Brother!
Great review, well done! I'm thinking of getting a 2015 535 (60k miles max) but worry about the reliability... Had another BMW for a couple of years and loved it - no doubt I'd love the 535 too but I'm put off by the prospect of having to get something fixed at least 1-2 times every year when things go wrong... And paying at least a few hundred $ per defect (if I'm lucky!) Anyways, keep it up!
That's an excellent choice if you want some performance without too much trouble. The problems I talk about in the video are of course over many different cars, so it's not like everyone will have issues. I think it's best to have a few good code scanners and being able to at least do some of the work yourself. Hope you enjoy whatever car you decide to get.
Did you buy it?
I had 2016 520D se it’s amazing car.
I think we only have 535d here, but that sounds like a very efficient version of it. Thanks for watching
SimpleCarGuy here in Uk 520d is most common car
I honestly wish we had the variety you guys have!
I'm getting the 535i f10 . I love the 550i but too many problems . However currently I have a e39 540i and that's a beast .
BMW 535i is a great car! Of you do choose to go with the 550i, make sure it’s an LCI version!
Thanks for watching.
SimpleCarGuy thank you . If a do go for a 550i, how will I know if it's reliable though even if all the maintenance has been done .
Max the Maltese dog you never know, but your best chance is to get a car that has records of maintenance. Pre purchase inspections could also help to find any existing issues.
What do you think about 2013 535i?
Ram D I test drove the 535i . Excellent drive .
The 528i is even good too . Either one of these cars are reliable . Unless you want ALOT of power and are willing to sacrifice ALOT of maintaining $ for the car , go with the 550i .
This video was very informative. I have a question because my son bought a 2013 or 2014 550i M? with 100k and shortly after the timing chain slipped. How much will this repair cost and is it possible to do yourself with proper instructions?
how much was it do you remember
I previously leased the 535d. Best car I've ever had.
One of these years, I might get myself a diesel BMW to see what the fuss is all about. Sounds very interesting!
Hey man great video, thanks I'm from Chicago too. Not sure if you are still replying, but would appreciate your help. Getting 2016 550i with 65k miles. I never had a BMW before. First thing I will do is take it to the local BMW dealership and ask them to do diagnostic on the list of issues you mentioned in the video. Do you know what are other recommended maintenance I should do besides changing the oil every 5k miles? Thanks in advance.
Helpful review and exactly what I was looking for! I’ll avoid the pre 2014 550i’s!
why
Avoid?
Thanks for the tips, i have a 2013 550i & this is by far the best car i owned very powerful smooth ride with great handling when i first test drove it i fell in love so i purchased it used, i went through hell a few times when i had the coolant leaks & misfires, but overall this 550i is a beast ride, my only concerns is when it hits 100k miles thats when the real maintenance will come, & you mention about the valve stems issue on what mileage do you think that can happen?
It's a really nice car, no doubt! The valve stems are kind of mystery as far as I'm concerned. My buddy had his replaced at like 38k miles under warranty when the car started smoking like crazy. Others have put 150k miles on it and no such issues. Dont let her starve of oil and hopefully it won't happen to you.
Any updates
I am looking at 2011 bmw 535i with 56k miles, it looks very good inside and out. Though the engine components look all good(and the dealer said everything is good) DO you think its worth getting?
Only thing I think you missed was they did change the engine of the 535i in the LCI models. The LCI models came with the Electronic Waste Gate (EWG) & pre LCI came with the Pneumatic Waste Gate (PWG). The EWG models make a little more power when modded.

Hi bud. Thanks for sharing your video. I am buying my first BMW ever tomorrow. Its a silver 2012 550I 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 only 97K original miles. Any advice? Thanks again
If it’s a pre-LCI, I would make sure that the maintenance was done religiously and oil was changed 5-8k miles. At these miles, I would also get a pre purchase inspection to check timing chain, HPFP, any oil leaks etc. other than that it should be a good car as long as you take care of it.
04 530i 112k miles had to play catchup because the last owner just drove it but the first owner actually serviced it. Im the third owner and i like it. Its not a race car but ppl often try to race me
People always try to race me even when I drive slowly! Good luck on your car, hope she'll last you a long while.
Found a super clean 2012 550i Xdrive, it’s been kept up with pretty well, & the service records show no major problems, only problem is the mileage, she’s been kicking for awhile, 123,000 to be exact, kinda a good sign if you ask me 🤷🏽♂️ should do it ? & what should I expect for monthly maintenance cost ? Side note (The f10 is my dream car, this one is a little old but I plan trading it in for something newer in a year)
Looks like I missed your comment! Hope you found a car you liked and enjoyed it. I would be careful with 2012 year model and that many models. It could be good but could also be troublesome. On my 2014, I have had 0 issues over the past 3+ years. I have replaced the plugs and coils and regular oil changes. Thats it.
Good video brother

I’ve had all bmw cars for years changing them always get a bmw my personal is bmw 5 series msport never had a problem with it as long as you check all system in any car it should be good to go nice video bro
Thanks for watching and I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve had 4 BMWs so far and only had minor issues. I do all the maintenance myself and never skip oil changes etc. wish I had the msport version though!

You should! They are a blast, just keep up with maintenance.
My car is making some noises when reversing and when going over slowly over speed bumps, my car is and BMW 5 series and is 10 years old in July - any ideas before I put in the garage for repair please?
Thanks for this vid, glad to hear clear and to the point information not cluttered with overly modulated music that you have to adjust your volume 6 times...so annoying...sub’d and liked.
I am looking at a 2013 550im with about 122,000 km or 75,000 miles.
If I am buying used, with the customer car transfer over to me?
What should I be looking for re the oil...how will I know if it’s burning too much?
Re the customer care, and if it covers my me...and I bring it in to have it checked...they replace the timing chain for free?
I heard the the big issue is the turbo placement and heat...would any of these service visits solve the issue or OS a regular maintenance/prevention thing.
Sorry I know it’s a lot of questions but I really like the car...and want that 8cyl bud am scared shitless of a $6,000 bill which here in Canada would probably translate closer to $10K lol
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I'm not sure if the customer care is still active. I think it was only active for a few years, so you'd have to call your dealer and confirm. Luckily most cars have had it done to the car and should be good or if they haven't and lasted to 75k, they were probably not affected anyway. I would ask the dealer on the specific car as well, they might let you know if it was done or not.
If the car is burning a lot of oil, you will see more than usual amount of black soot on the exhaust tips. Of course if you are the owner you will get a message saying oil is low, but harder when you are buying the car as no one will really tell you.
Check the records for maintenance and see how well it was taken care of. If not that well, look for a 2014+ car as they have less issues.
What should I look out for on a 2015 550i with 126K miles?
I got 2 5 Series 520i and 520d both Germany made in 2014, had got such the same two problems.
I m glad with share. I remember that there was one more issue on my 520i after it ran abt 50km. Its turbo blow-off valve malfunctioned and required to repair.
F10 will definitely be my next car this fall 👍
Make Sure Your Bank Is fully loaded with 💸 cash. Because this cars will drain your Bank quickly.
Wondering if you would recommend changing the timing chain in a 2013 528i pro actively (118,000 miles), or just stay on top of your oil changes?
I wouldn’t change the chain unless there are signs of wear such as metal in oil, movement in chain, unusual ticking, ‘slapping’ noise etc.
Change your oil at least 5k miles or if you drive in the city a lot every 3-4K and you should be fine. Thanks for watching and good luck!

Great video! So what's the best model and year to get? I thought in the US it's only the 2011 528i was the naturally aspirated engine. A lot of bmw experts told me to get the non turbo engines. Thoughts?
You are correct, in US the naturally aspirated engine was only available in 2011. It's a very reliable engine with only minor issues like oil leaks if the engine wasn't taken care of, but the problem is that they are getting to be 10 years old. The best out of the range as far as reliability would have to be the 535i (2012+), in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

Issues with mine (f11, 330k km, 2011): headlights module was corroded, water in another headlight, the right back inner backlight led cluster was blinking (needed to be replaced), lock for the boot door stopped working, rear air bumper collapse, semering on cluch was leaking two times. But when you drive it, you excuse it everything
I have a 2011 535i xdrive! My back up camera only works at cold starts when it’s cold. I’ve replaced the water pump at 70K. I’ve driven the car from NYC to Canada and also across PA and the northeast without issues! Water is starting to leak into the driver side headlight, I’ve had it pumped out and dried.. new headlight is about $2,000 US.
Water pump seems pretty normal for these cars, but the camera issue is very strange. I wonder if it's software or hardware related.
I've see some condensation build up in the headlights, but enough to have it pumped out is crazy. Did you seal it after?
SimpleCarGuy the mechanic was unable to seal it tightly.. better now with minimal condensation

@@rollydoucet8909 I had many problems with it. The turbo coolant lines melted due to the extreme heat of the V-design of the twin scroll turbos. The fuel pump also simultaneously failed AND cylinder head assembly valves. This was a certified purchase in 2018 with only 26k miles. Certification expired and its almost like the car sensed it. Repairs of $5 to 6k USD. I traded it in before absorbing that cost. I only had to pay the fuel pump for $1700. I will never own another BMW unless its leased or under warranty. I hope BMW gets this fixed, they sell a lot of V8 cars.
Great video! IM looking for a F10 520D from around 2010-2012. Are these model years reliable or are they "plagued" with problems? I don't mind paying for regular maintenance but don't want the car to cost me a fortune in repair. Also have heard a few horror stories about timing chain failure that could possibly destroy the engine, is this really a common thing? Should I get a 2013 5 series ? Would I be spending a lot at the mechanics after buying?
I would suggest 2014+, they fixed a lot of issues that year.
The 528i’s i4 got a turbo in 2016 i think and got a lot more power but still relatively low at right around 250 i believe.
Yes, I believe I mentioned the N20 (i4) in the video. They were from 2012-2016 and have timing chain issues and rod bearing issues. Better in 2014+ models.

Should be a decent buy, but if it was me, I'd look for 2014+ even if it has 20k more miles.
Every time I see these videos it makes me never want to buy one of these cars I've never heard of cars with having so many problems I had a Honda for 140.000 miles and didn't have one issue
Excellent video! I’ve had a 2013 Bmw 535i for 2 years now, currently at 75k miles. Good car overall, replaced the axle boot kit on the passenger side, but other than that regular maintenance. Hoping to get 2 more years out of it and swap for something newer. What do you think is their max mileage capacity? I’ve seen over 100k miles for sale so hoping to get to at least that mark. Thanks!
You can easily hit 100k with proper maintenance. I think you can even get to 150k if you take care of it and change the oil every 5k miles (not bmw recommended). Keep an eye to make sure it's not burning excessive oil and no leaks, should be good for a while!
I have 125k miles on my 2011 535i and it's still running great,no leaks or lights at all, just regular maintenance, love my bimmer
My aunt has hers at 185k. 2011 too
Would highly recommend any BMW with the N55 engine. Been very reliable for me in the 3 years I've owned my '13 F30 335i. Only problem I've had was a busted charge turbo charge pipe. So far no oil leaks! 🙈
That's not bad at all! Thanks for letting us know your experience! I've had a 335i with the n54 engine and it was very reliable for 4 years as well.
I am buying a 2016 528i with 213k km on it, what are the things to look out for...I thought it was too under priced for the price but interior looks like it has been well taken care of. What are the things to look out for before making the decision?
Other than general F10 issues, there isn't much to be concerned with the N20 engine on a 2016 car as they fixed the chain and rod bearing issues by then. The mileage is high, but if it has good records, I don't see huge problems. I'd always recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection. Good luck!
I’ve owned 3 5 Series F10. 2 2013 and 2014 528i and 2016 535i . I like BMW, never had a problem with them. Did all the maintenance myself. Now I moved on to bigger things. Own a Maserati Ghibli. Much nicer, exhaust is awesome and a real head turner. BMW doesn’t stand out anymore. You see them everywhere.
I’ve only had the problems I mentioned in the video, so most of the time it’s a very reliable car. The reason I like F10 is because it’s so understated. The 550 is fast as hell, but looks like a normal sedan, you don’t get Nissan 350z trying time race you.
So what problems should we look for in the 2014 550i?
The general issues between pre-LCI and LCI I mentioned are the same. So. Excessive oil consumption, coils plugs going out early, valve stems and to lesser extent timing chains. Nothing too specific to LCI version only other than oil pump gasket and parking camera and sensors issues.
Thanks for watching?
@@SimpleCarGuy I'm trying to buy a 2014 550 60k miles, it's well maintained but 2 years ago they had to change the crankshaft ventilation or flush it. I'm not really sure but it has to do with the crankshaft. Any advice will be appreciated
What about carbon build-up in the intake valves?
It’s not any more common than any other direct injection engine as far as I’m aware. I think it’s recommended to get walnut blasting every 50-60k on most direct injection engines.
I had the CCP work done on my 750 and it only helped a little. Ut still uses oil. About a quart every 700 1000 miles on the highway.
Just got rid of my 2011 528i, had to do an engine replacement, the constant oil leak issue from the valve cover gasket and finally the hard shifting transmission was the final blow. I absolutely loved the driving experience but the old f10 model cars can be a money pit. Once you hit 100k miles expect major problems with BMW
Did you have to replace the engine because of the valve cover leak? It doesn't make a sense to swap the engine, but I could be wrong. You're right about the 100k, it's not that the cars go bad all of the sudden, it's just that many major services come up around that time and no one wants to pay up for them.
The 2011 has the N52 I thought it was reliable. I just bought one with 148k miles. Should I be worried
@@user-ie4kp7ni9d yes.
@@345.Guappoo why
@@user-ie4kp7ni9d not only is it bmw but it’s a car with 150k miles😂😂may not be major but I’m positive something needs to be replaced
Hi, im looking to buy a 2011 535i with 150k miles. Would you recommend? Or what would be the problems that come with it! Thanks
How mechanically skilled are you? You will have to do a good amount of maintenance on a vehicle with that many miles. N55 is a good engine, but after 100k miles, lots of little things to replace. Maybe I should do a N55 video!
Whats your opinion on a 2014 bmw 550i m sport reliability ? Witt 50k miles . Are the 2014 versions reliable ? Heard they smoke a lot from the exhaust that’s what’s always stopped me from getting a 2012-2016 version :/
I wouldn't get an older 550i, but 2014 is a great car all things considered. I've had mine for almost 4 years now and no smoking issues at all. They updated the engine in 2014 to the n63TU from the regular n63 version, so lots of issues have been fixed and you get a boost of power (extra 40HP). The worst issues I've heard people have was the valve seals needing replacing.. but that's not pretty rare.
@@SimpleCarGuy what about a 2013 bmw 535i?
@@mrgetdough5624 As far as reliability, it's a great car. I would still go for the 2014+ for those none-reliability improvements.
@@SimpleCarGuy what’s bad about the 2013 bmw 535i? That you say non reliable improvement
Waiting on delivery of 2015 528i M Sport. We'll see how it goes.
That's a pretty good year and engine and with the M sport package, they look killer.
Vapour seals fail on rear doors leading to water ingress into rear passenger foot wells. On RHD versions water ingress from grommet behind glove box.
That sounds like a real pain to to fix if it's behind the glove box. Would the dash have to come out for the fix?
@@SimpleCarGuy No, you can get to it from behind the glovebox. The real problem is the sound proofing in the engine bay that covers the grommet doesn't have enough drainage so it slowly fills with water and the grommet perishes. I removed the sound proofing on mine and cut drainage holes in in it. Google f10 water leak and you'll find a link to the UK forum 5 site, has about 30 pages on these water issues :D
My parking assistant is having issues just went out couple of days ago but I own the bmw 535i 2016
Looking to get a 2011 535i with 158,000km, any recommendations? Or things to change once I get it
The N55 engine in those cars is one the most reliable engines on the 5 series; unfortunately, 2011 was the first and not the best year for them. Check for oil leaks and turbo issues. Other than regular maintenance items there isn't anything specific you need to change. (oil, plugs, coils etc).
SimpleCarGuy thanks for the info !
Hopefully the maintenance was timely done and I won’t have too much headache. How much can a turbo set you back in this beauty?
I’m about to buy a 2011 f10 535i. Runs good any recommendations.
Should be a great car. Of course it’s almost 10 years old at this point, so watch out for any leaks under the engine/transmission area and check the trunk for any moisture. Just to be safe get a pre purchase inspection.
You are better off with a 2013.
I have a 2011 f11 535i and I’ve had quite a lot of issue with it. Multiple oil leaks, from old gaskets. Oil pump and oil cooler along with the air duct cracking. Would recommend getting an aluminium charge pipe as it’s a common problem with the stock plastic one cracking. I’ve got mine arrive soon. That being said...i love it when it on the road!! 😂 oh also just had a crack in the alloy, in process of getting the run flats off. I’m hoping I have done enough maintenance now and can finally enjoy it 😬
Edit: oh and the oil leak around the oil filter house caused the alternator belt to slip off and get chewed up 🙄
Hey brother great video. I’m currently looking at a 2015 535i xdrive f10 with 75K miles. Should i pursue this car or is it unreliable? I’m buying from a private seller, he’s currently doing the maintenance but slowly. He just did brakes and rotors all around, tires are about 2 months old, spark plugs and front shocks going in next week. Seems like maintenance is being done and up to date. What do you think?
Sounds like a good car. Check to make sure oil has been changed on the regular. The n55 engine in that car is pretty reliable in 2015b
@SimpleCarGuy Why don't you install the M Sport exterior packet on it? It makes the car look totally different and more aggressive.
I like the non-aggressive look on the this car; especially, when I blow the doors off sports cars. The reaction on people’s faces is priceless
Good vid but what you named are mostly common items that should be replaced on any vehicle. Gaskets don’t last forever, neither do coils, spark plugs, wheel bearings, wipers, tires, bushings, belts.. etc, what you called out is normal wear and tear. A problem, my 2012 535xi had an exhaust valve spring break at 98k which costs $5k to fix at BMW.. that’s a problem. My power steering module went out every time I hit a puddle..that’s an $800 problem every time the underside of the car got wet...
People ask these questions, so I included as much as I could. Thanks for watching and I hope your comment helps others looking to learn more.
How do you feel about 2014 535i M sport package?
That's a good car! I'd buy one. Good engine and it's LCI, go for it!
Many thanks for sharing. I am in Toronto, and find the 2016 528i for 40000mile, asking price for 26000 CAD. Should I go for it? Any other repair cost should I be aware in next 5 year. I only drive 7500 mile per year. Many thanks!
I'd say go for it! I don't know how the prices are in Canada, but that's not a lot of problems and they have fixed the timing chain issues by 2016 on the N20 engine. You may need to replace, plugs, coils, injectors and HPFP in the next 5 years, but those are fairly easy to do yourself or not very expensive.
@@SimpleCarGuy thank you sim much for your detailed explanation and much appreciated!👍👍👍
What exactly are the three colored panels on the driver's side grill?
The stripes are normally used on M models as they are the Motorsport colors. I put mine on for fun and to piss off some people.
