My Dad trained at Ft. Bliss in El Paso prior to shipping over seas where he served in WWII for 3 yrs. He always liked to tell my brother & I how he could write his initials in the wooden target board with his .50 cal. machine gun. One year we stopped in El Paso and my parents took us across the border into Juárez, Mexico. This was in the early '60's and I was about 10 yrs. old & my brother was 7 yrs. old. As we were shopping we briefly got separated from our parents and wandered into a market place were a lot of people were gathering in a circle. A couple of guys lead a sheep into the circle, slit its throat, picked it up briefly to let it bleed out, then started cutting it up as people from the crowd moved in to purchase their desired piece of meat. Needless to say my brother & I were wide-eyed and a little startled when my dad came up & said where have you guys been? Each piece of the slaughtered sheep was wrapped up in newspaper & handed to the buyer. I also remember one guy was swatting flies away with a severed cow's tail. The last time my brother & I were in El Paso was when we took my Dad to his annual Army reunion. He was 97 years old and lived to be 100 yrs. & 4 mo. greatest man I have ever known!
@Ian.. Thank you sir, he was in 13 different countries during WWII, but he liked England a lot & spoke very highly of the British soldiers. He was at the Battle of the Bulge and Omaha Beach Red (second wave). Served with General Patton's "shock troops" in the 62nd Field Artillery.
Thanks to your family for your dad’s Army service. I served 10 years. And did some training at Ft Bliss while stationed in AZ. Where I was able to get the best tamales I’ve ever eaten from a Mexican woman that brought them to sell in the states from her home in Nogales, Mexico
Hey James, Cuervo.. Great camp as always. Either way you go, it's only a couple hours or so to the mountains, perfect get-a-way location. Good times, good food and drink, life is good. Thanks for the trip, work and Cuervo's music, well done gentlemen. See ya next time.
We were camping a few months ago, and it was getting late so we had just put the fire out and we’re sitting quietly in the dark getting ready for bed when a small herd of elk came right into our camp and then spooked and ran when they realized we were there. It also scared us just bad because we didn’t know the elk were there until the spooked and ran. That was an adrenaline rush!
Very interesting show, as usual . Hot in central Texas as well and I too would welcome the cool pine and sage scented mountains of Cloud Croft . Enjoyed the good looking food . Good show and many thanks.
Hello 👋 my outdoors friend greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing another outdoor adventure. It's good that you were able to escape the heat 🔥 of El Paso and escape to the mountains of New Mexico. Those kabobs looked very tasty. Stay safe out there. 🤗 👋
We’ve hit our favorite spots in the Lincoln Nat Forest a couple of times during this brutal heatwave, Las Cruces isn’t much cooler than El Paso right now. Based on the forecast we’ll probably be heading up again soon, I love seeing the elk, hearing them bugle from a distance, echoing through the valley is enchanting. It’s been a while since we’ve had kebabs too, I might just have to make them. I like to put them on a bed of rice (premade), I sprinkle some ghost pepper salt on the rice before topping with the kebabs, then a squirt of lime and cilantro if I’m feeling it. That’s THE most gourmet bologna sandwich ever! Thanks for another good video and music.
Just returned to Central Tex from a stay in Ruidoso. Watching that temp rise by a degree every five minutes on the way back down was hard to stomach. Really enjoying your vids!
I'm in South Texas and it's been quite hot here too. I'm so ready for fall. We are also making our annual trip to Marfa Texas. We will be there for the Marfa lights Festival
Good to see you guys out! I need to get myself somewhere with some 68° weather. Burning up in my area too. Watching as my house is out of power too. I know what you mean about filming in the heat. Miserable! Take care, guys!
We are over 100 degrees here too... Phoenix area... It's not fun to be in the heat! I almost went to Flagstaff but stayed home, ha! Trying to save some money n pay off bills... such is life! Good to see you guys out in the woods! Kebobs n bologna sandwiches looked good! And I love the smell of sage...
Cuervo Negro blessed the campsite which brought up on good spirits. Maybe that's why an elk visited you guys? In many Native American cultures, the presence of an elk is a good omen.
This is really awesome. The kebabs look so good. I've heard about the heatwave down there. I hope it cools off for everyone in Texas, and in the other places where there is a heatwave. Cheers, James, and Cuevro! ✌️
I may do another "cooling off" trip to Cloudcroft this week. Very short drive for me. The kebabs are a good idea, never think of it while camping. I usually do bacon and eggs for breakfast, with fried potatoes and onions (and green chili if I have it). But not over a fire, too lazy in the morning and eager to get coffee! I use 2 burner Coleman stove. I have a 1 once titanium stove like yours for backpacking though. I have some new knives and an LED lantern I want to test, so another excuse to get up there...
When I lived in Alaska and was sheep hunting. We always did this when we got our Dall sheep. We always ate the livers and heart. Bad luck not to. I miss those days.
Going camping it's supposed to be about you guys I used to do pretty easy meals just so I could get out there plus what you can afford. I'd rather eat sandwiches and be somewhere awesome and nature then eating steak and being broke and barley having gas money haha. It looked like a super fun time!
Nice to get out to the mountains to camp HellToTheYeah them Kabobs delicious 😋 cool camping spot it sure is nice to have some cooler weather in the mountains. Breakfast sandwich HellToTheYeah 😊
I don’t practice Santeria, I ain’t got no crystal ball… all jokes aside I commend you for recognizing a spiritual practice. I don’t practice it but can see why you would think so. Either way many blessings to you and thank you for watching.
As a chef I've kept my Green River hunter in my knife roll pretty much since I first saw yours in a video & had to order my own, it finds use every day in the kitchen
Sandwiches looked great, this is a great channel love the content and music I live in the land of enchantment it's more beautiful in person around a campfire with friends and family and some good ole Jim beam
I know it has been so hot .. I'm not far from you .. Kabobs made me hungry and the sandwiches looked good too .. wish I could get out maybe this week .. Thanks
Luckily less mosquitoes and bugs outdoors even in hot climates. In Thailand, summer is really really hot and humid on rainy season and tons of bugs and insects.
Cool adventure 68° very nice. I understand the heat day time Temps here in the socal desert over 100° it's 9pm and it is 93°. Stay safe my friend the food looks amazing.
That's cool you got to use your thermal to see that elk. The only thing I would have done differently on the bologna sandwich is I would have used Lays BBQ chips instead of the Doritos.
👍 Very nice video. You should move sandwich prep higher up on your list of food preparation. Sorry to see you each only had 1 slice of bologna and pickle. As you instructed I purchased some coffee mugs from your store and helpfully next time you will have 2 slices. 😂😂😂 I could not make out the label on your bread, what brand is it?
Cuervo should be the gold-standard musician for Western overlanders/campers/outdoorsmen. Simply beautiful.

Another example of America's greatest generation. They are all so missed by the ones who learned from them and loved them.

What an amazing story.

Good times! What a treat to have that elk running around so close, too!
Camping and unintentional ASMR from Cuervo pouring the coffee grounds, the best.

Don’t be stingy with the bologna!
Good stuff
Oh oh Cuervo is doing that santeria and brujería stuff I see going on down here in Florida.
I don’t practice Santeria, I ain’t got no crystal ball… all jokes aside I commend you for recognizing a spiritual practice. I don’t practice it but can see why you would think so. Either way many blessings to you and thank you for watching.

Yeah, same over here in AZ. Over 110 for over 30 days, luckily we got some rain, cooled things off just a bit 🥵
did yall start getting the summer rains yet?
Monsoon rains came in just in time to make it a bit more tolerable 🙂
Great vid!
Great video.
I know it has been so hot .. I'm not far from you .. Kabobs made me hungry and the sandwiches looked good too .. wish I could get out maybe this week .. Thanks
Maybes keep an opinel carbon size 8 for the food prep and fish cleaning? Slice like the dickens, and easy to sharpen.
sage blessing... Cuervo gives the kabobs a thumbs up... cool camping trip in N Mexico
Never would’ve thought of bologna and pickles and avocado being good together on a sandwich but I’ve never tried it either
I tried coors banquet for the first time ever. Pretty good stuff
I love your camping trip videos sir 🏕👏👍
Glad you like them!
I'm with Cuervo on the no tomatoes! They make everything mushy.
I'll watch a good sandwich ny day.
Thanks for taking us along for a little relief in the mountains.
Luckily less mosquitoes and bugs outdoors even in hot climates. In Thailand, summer is really really hot and humid on rainy season and tons of bugs and insects.

Hi James. I love your channel. Nothing better than camping, cooking, some drinking with best friends. God bless 😊
Great video. Now I’m in the mood for a kebab. The Doritos was a nice add on to the sandwich.
Where did you get the cutting board? Excellent video you guys!
The knife looks great!
Thank you for sharing another great video.
You can parboil chunks of chicken at home in crab boil and then take them camping for kabobs too.
👍 Very nice video.
You should move sandwich prep higher up on your list of food preparation. Sorry to see you each only had 1 slice of bologna and pickle. As you instructed I purchased some coffee mugs from your store and helpfully next time you will have 2 slices. 😂😂😂

Damn, those sandwiches made me hungry. Glad you escaped the heat.
