Fixing the Windshield Wipers and Washers on my Vintage Datsun 521 Pickup

  • I recently remembered that my Vintage Datsun 521 Pickup has no windshield wipers or washers. I remembered this as I was cruising to an early morning car show - lots of fog and no wipers makes for a rough trip. This is the second time I've done this. Guess we need to fix the wipers and washers huh?

I have fond memories of my B210 from that same era. I was out in Western KS yesterday and passed a guy with one of those little Datsun pickups on a trailer. Looks like another project about to start in his life. 🙂 I really like that heat trick for the old plastic lines. I will use that. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I was paranoid about burning a hole in that washer bag. I can't imagine where you would find an original one again.

Are we not gonna talk about this sweet new lift that seems to be installed!? I’m incredibly jealous

LOL, yeah I have a WHOLE LOTTA talkin' to do about that. That whole deal was a MAJOR fiasco. Like, major. I'm making a video about it this week. Long story short, my lift got delivered to someone else's house. Cool story, though. Wildfire went above and beyond. Those guys are a class act all the way!

50 years ago I sought out vintage alarm clocks (flea markets and garage sales) when I was sixteen years old. The clocks were stylish for their time, 1930 to 19-late sixties. I took the 'works' out and tried to refurbish each of them to get them to work properly.
Failure was not in tne equation, only knowledge, as they already didn't operate correctly.
    I just was curious.
Like your goodself, or so it seems.
BTW, this simple small motor disection is a 'on the edge of your seat' piece of video.
Almost as intense as watching a heart transplant!

It's nice seeing a job of reconditioning the original parts. Replacements are junk Chinesium anyway so resurrecting the OEM Japanese quality part is my first option. Good on you.

Yeah, that was my view as well. The "fixed" 50 year old Japanese one will still outlive the crap Chinese ones.

Afternoon from.West TN. New subscriber here . Found your channel this morning . I've enjoyed this series very much . Awesome project.
I grew up with The 521, 620 & 720 Datsun trucks . As we had 1 of each on the farm back in the day . If my Grandfather wasn't hunting out them he was using them as Mini Service trucks .
Put a pair of narrow Buckshot mudders or Co-Op Grip Spurs on the back of a 2wd Datsun truck & they were light enough even loaded with 2 men & necessities to work on equipment with,.
& would still go places our Loaded 1Ton Service truck couldn't go without being pulled out.

Hey Mack, thanks for the story. Love hearing stuff like that. Haven't seen the Co-Op Grip Spurs since I was a kid. Wonder if they still make them?

Memories. I drove a truck like that from 1970 to 1974 in high school. Same color. Beat the hell out of it and it never failed me. My kids minds were blown when I told them I could drive all day on $5 worth of gas. Some guys who bought them made the mistake of trying to close the hood and bending the prop rod. Oops.

you can buy those generic pumps for cheap. It's not worth wasting your time on really.

    • @ProjectTimeGarage
      @ProjectTimeGarage  Рік тому +2

Well, I don't know about that. I spent zero dollars and 45 minutes to fix a pump that's been in service for 51 years and is original to the truck. I would bet this pump will still out live one of the new cheap Chinese pumps.

Curiosity question, whare can you buy these hood props at? I have a Power King tractor that needs a hood prop, and wonder if I can get a hood prop and modify it for my tractor.
