    Wow! I love the way you use techniques that I, (as someone who can't draw yet) can adapt and use.

    Great idea! I do a similar thing by using A4 labels or sticking thick paper sheets to a board with gel medium and then and cutting it away rather than sticking it down, but I can see how that'd work really well. I make embossing folders where the idea is to get a 3-D texture, so bet it would work if I scrunch the tape up in certain places. Thanks! I love your print!

      Hi Aino, anything in particular you want from Snapseed? I mainly use it to adjust pics to use in drawing / printing / painting etc. However, I have tried a fair few photography techniques on it like double exposure, cloning effect, selective blurring and colour to name a few, mainly to see how it compares with Photoshop. Let me know if any of these sound interesting or anything else you had in mind.

    Another very helpful video. I wondered how it would be to have some tape doubled and some not, would it create greyer areas. I'll try it. I am trying transparency film, that's what I have on hand, with all torn edges since my arthritis won't let me use the exacto very much. I can't take the pressure. You are such a good artist. One of my faves now on UA-cam. So full of good ideas and professional advice. Thanks.

      Hi there, thanks for the comment. The technique is tough on your hands. If you have the space, you can work big and not worry too much about cutting precisely. I've gone up to A3 with tape I just rip off the roll and 'draw' with quite freestyle. I did a video a while back, printing some fish over backgrounds that included working with double and single layers, might be useful to you. Keep at it!!!

    Wonderful! What thickness is the poly base please? Perspex could do the same job I guess. This would be a great calligraphy to use on the Gel plate too… thank you for your continued experiments… reminds me of times in BA Fine Art printing classes. Cheers ❤

      Hi there, thanks for lovely comment. Perspex work great, the poly I used was about 1mm thick : )

    In a variety of contexts, from fabrics to packaging to laser-cutting projects, I find myself very drawn to the off-cuts and scraps of various processes. I experienced this again in this video, at 5:36, right before you stick down the piece of tape to cut for the background around the picture-right (subject's left) side of the head. The pieces of tape from which you cut your tiny shapes for the print are also extremely lively and interesting.
    This isn't so much a technique request as it is a shapes-and-subject-matter request: I'd like to see you save up a bunch of your off-cuts and do a print/mixed-media piece from them. You are making (and presumably throwing away) some /fantastic/ shapes in your scraps!

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  3 роки тому

      Such a good idea!!! Consider the request done! Funny enough, video I am working on now is about using scrap from Gelli plate printing! Cheers for all the comments and feedback!

    What sort of ink did you use? You got amazing results without a press . . . Was that cartridge paper? Have you tried dampened printing paper?

    Hi, I'm new to this channel, I joined it a couple of weeks ago. Could you please tell me which your beginers masking tape demo was. The ones I found seem a liitle daunting for a starting point. I love your channel and your art. Thank you so much.

      Hi Gordon - you could try the video with the fish printing onto gel plate backgrounds - that goes through a few approaches. My best advice is get a simple image, A5 size, and get to find the shapes and marks that make sense of the image for you!

    I love this technique - so versatile and accessible. What is the material that you are putting the masking tape onto? And would you consider adding a list of materials to your videos? That would be really helpful.

      Hi Wendy - the masking tape was stuck on a base on polyproplene : ) I;ll try to do better with the equipment lists!

    Fascinating. Thanks for the video - I've never seen this technique before. What kind of ink did you use, what kind of paper did you use?

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jeka, ink is cheap water based block printing ink and paper was white cartridge. I'm sure someone else must have done this technique but I came up with it years ago when trying to find cheap ways to block print. Such as easy was to get started printmaking at home and you can get a big variety of effects. Only drawback is the plates don't last as long as lino or wood cut and, if you use oil based inks, washing the plate get tricky.
