I just cut up and re-poured my diy gelli plates (your recipe!) so I can have 3 barely teen girls over for a craft date. I am 63 and loving your tips on frugality so we can all be creative. I want to show these girls that you don't have to spend a lot of money to create. Thank you again for all of your great ideas and tips. Each will go home with a bag (I made from scrap fabric) filled with her own gelli plate, some paint, texture tools, and card blanks so she can maintain the momentum and catch the vision.
It's 2019, & my diy Hectograph is going strong to this day! I used glycerin, water, & gelatin about 4 years ago, & have remade it many times, adding a single recipe when needed. Each time I remake my 9" x 13" plate, I'll strain it through several layers of damp cheesecloth to remove dried paint & fibers, etc, & it then has a perfectly clean working surface again. I've told hundreds of ppl to watch this video over the years, & hope they love it as much as I do! You changed my life for the better with this video & I thank God for you, Lindsay! Thank you for making my life better than it was before, & it was a great life back then before discovering you!!! ❤️
Hi Lindsay I made this geli plate when you came out with the tutorial and it is now 15 November 2014, and it is going strong !! Fabulous no rotting or mould I just love it and your frugal ways- as the real thing in Australia is crazy expensive! So THANK YOU!!!
Hi Lindsay - I finally got my stuff together and made a 12" x 12" x almost .75 thick gelatin plate. It came out awesome! I used 16 pkts gelatin, 3.5c water, 3.5c glycerin. It's nice and firm but pliable. Luv it! Thanks for the recipe!
I haven't watched very many of your videos, but I'm suddenly addicted. Opening one of your videos up is like lifting the lid on a giant treasure box! Wow, jam packed of information AND entertainment. :) Thanks for both!
What ever it is that you had for breakfast the morning you made this.....I MUST HAVE SOME.. Man oh man do I wish I had at least half of your energy...woman!! You're awesome. I've been wanting a gelli plate to play with but didn't want to spend the money. I'm so glad you did this video. Thanks girl.
I made one of these following your recipe using wintergreen rubbing alcohol, glycerin, Knox gelatin, and water. It smells good and works beautifully! Thank you!!!
I can't even TELL you how excited I am about this! I could never afford a commercial version, and didn't think I would ever have a good permanent solution. Thank you so much science and Lindsey!
Just wanted to give you an update on the plates that I made. For one plate,I used 7 pkgs plain Knox Gelatin dissolved in 1 ½ cups cold water to bloom. Meanwhile, heat to boiling 1 cup of water and 1 cup of glycerin and 1 tbsp sugar Add to the Knox gelatin and stir until all is dissolved. Pour into mold.(8 x 10 box frame). I kept them in a box on the shelf - no refrigeration needed, and after 5 months, it's still working fine and no molding. I've also made round ones in 8" cake pans and smaller plastic containers so I have a variety of shapes and sizes.
I read somewhere else that someone thought the sugar acted as a preservative or disinfectant but honestly that makes no sense to me at all. Vinegar maybe, but sugar? Anyhoo, I'm sticking with straight gelatin, glycerin and alcohol, and bleaching everything beforehand this time. We'll see how that does. It is a bit weird. For two weeks it sat in my kitchen on the counter, sealed in a cute cupcake holder I had bought at Walmart. It looked fine until a couple days ago, when I noticed the surface appeared a bit weird. I ignored that and put it in my new craft room, closer to a window but still out of direct sunlight and then last night noticed a lot of mold. Oh well. Will eventually get this working! :-)
Victoria (for some reason I can't reply to the comment (arrgh) I melted mine down in the frame in the microwave and it was fine, stop it as soon as it melts though so you don't warp the frame. See the above video description for an updated recipe with no alcohol;)
HI LINDSAY...THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. I REMELTED MY GELLI FOR 3 MIN IN THE MICROWAVE IN MY GLASS DISH. IT WASN'T MELTED. THEN I WHOMPED IT IN THE FRIG...I USED UR NEW RECIPE. IT CAME OUT GREAT. I MADE WONDERFUL PAPERS OF ALL DIFFERNT COLORS. FUN FUN FUN...IT SHRUNK A LITTLE, BUT IT'S WORKING GREAT. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT VIDEOS U MAKE FOR US...LOVE IT...I'M LEARNING SO MUCH.
I just finished pouring 2 gelatin plates and here is what I found out for anyone who is interested. I bought a 16 oz bottle of vegetable glycerin online (gives you 2 full cups) and followed your mixing ratios and could fill 2 moulds one was 5" x 7" and the other was 6" x 15 ". I was hoping to get more because I have and 11" x 14" mold but will have to wait for my next order of glycerin. You did mention something about a sugar addition for preservation but if you have ever tasted glycerin you will see it is laden with sugar or something extremely sweet. Thanks for the great recipe. Glad I found it before I made up one of the others without glycerin. Love your videos and your energy and of course your great creativity.
I've been back and forth with myself about getting a gelli plate but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on something I might not use that often I have craft ADHD, I do one thing for a day and then switch to something else and right now I'm obsessing about WANTING to make soap I just get so excited about all of the craft stuff I wear myself out thinking about it. You're officially the coolest person on UA-cam
hi there Lindsay, just thought id give you another update date is 21/02/2016 started gelli printing again with my home made geli plate i made with this tutorial around the date of this video....dude seriously really great recipe! it has been sitting in storage for a good while but when i got it out it was still doing great no mould at all .....you rock! might make some of the smaller sizes that are out ; )
I made the gelatin/glycerin/water version a few days ago. It's working fine. The prints are great. I've wanted a Gelli Plate for so long, but could not afford to buy one. Thanks so much for sharing this great idea.
I'm glad you are having fun and not getting frustrated, I don't think you need it really thick, I bet even 1/2" is fine, it will be quite strong and rubbery when you have it right;)
By base do you mean the tray to mold it in?I think you might be sest to get a 14"x14" piece of plexiglass and build a modeling clay dam around the edges and pour the gelatin in there, then just remove the clay and keep the plate on the glass, you can have another piece of plexi or glass cut the same size to cover it with when not in use too!
I melted down my sticky plate adding 1/2c water+1T alcohol, poured it into a 8"x15"plastic container, cooled it 6 hrs and WOW! Works better than my purchased 8x10 in many ways. For 1, I can get way more pulls on each brayering even tho it's harder to spread the paint initially. I LOVE the frugal crafter.
years I think, it should not spoil and you can melt it if it gets beat up (maybe add a bit more alcohol or glycerin to the melted mixture to replace any moisture that may have leached from the plate during use and storage but it should be good. I found that the plate shrunk just enough to store it in the frame I made it in so now I put the piece of plexi on the frame to keep it clean and moist and i can pop it on a shelf easy as pie;)
maybe it needs more water if it is sticky, add 1/2 cup water and melt it down and see after it sets up how it is. Let it set up in the fridge. Is it really humid and warm where you live? It will be sticky until it is completely set up, how long did it set?
A ticker plate might be easier to keep together sine it is so big but it does get more durable as it dries out. A friend told be that she got gelatin in bulk from the health food store and it was cheaper too!
It is a clear acrylic picture frame, I got it for $1 but they are normally $2-$4 I think, they work the best for this and other storage too! I can't get it back in there to store unless I were to trim it, I have just left it out, I might just set a page protector on top to keep the dust off of it and slide it on a shelf;) Or buy one of the bigger frames to set the plate in. Lots of options I quess;)
My husband found the glycerin and all different sized containers at WalMart. I made my gelli plate, used it 50 times, had to 'zap it in the microwave' for 2 minutes and it came back just like new! EVERYTHING WORKED OUT PERFECTLY...NO ALCOHOL USED. Thanks!
Almost !!! I found the glycerin !!! I can't believe it !! Now I am waiting for my order from Walmart to get my gelatin and I'll be ready for my gelli plate !! Gosh can't wait, I'll let you know !!
I just finished mixing my first gelli press plate, using your receipt ..now I'm giving it an all night cool down or chill out ..I'm so excited ... I had to compromise the receipt because I could not find gelatin any where with in 15 miles of me ...so I only had 4 packs of gelatin to work with .. but you gave us equivalents and I used them ! so I think it will work..My pan is smaller too . I had to break out my carpenter's level to get the pan level ..Thanks for sharing this DIY project!! ..PS. So glad to read that glycerine alone is a preservative ..I did want to mention as a soap molder I sprayed alcohol on my glycerine soap after pouring the base into the molds to make the surface bubbles go away.
Thank you Lindsay for sharing all your experiences making the gelli plates, super entertaining!! I love your energy and the tip on ratio: 2 tablespoons of gelatin to 1 cup of liquid: (glycerine+alcohol+hot water, to help dissolve gelatin)! "Happy Printing" to you all!
Hi Lynne, it lasted well for a week and then I decided to melt another plain geliten plate into it to make it bigger but I did not use additional glycerin and I went out of town for a couple of weeks and there was a subtle bloom here and there, nothing like the full out mold fest on a traditional plate I had kept to compare but I think the plate I mentioned in had started to breakdown, my bad. I posted another recipe link in the video description that a former teacher shared with me (cont.)
make sure it is mixed well and you kept the ratio of 2 Tablespoons gelatin to 2 cups liquid (count the water, alcohol and glycerin as liquid) my plate is 8"x10 and it is only 1/2" thick but very durable, it should not be cracking. Try remelting it and repouring it and leave it be for several hours or overnight to set, you might have moved it before it was set up. :)
I love all your tutorials especially this one! My dog got a hold a a very small gelli plate I created for ATCs and it was toxic and she passed. Just a word of caution. Keep this away from kids n animals. (didn't use alcohol)
Thank you so much for this caution! I am so very sorry about your dog... I've lost quite a few animals in my life, and it never gets any less devastating.
Omit the alcohol if using the above recipe. Many people complained about the smell of the alcohol and you do not need it unless you are low on glycerin. Proceed with the above recipe:)
I also have the traditional plate I made next to it to compare the longevity and I notice the plain geliten plate is more squishy. The revamped plate is much more rubbery and like plastic, good signs!
nope, it does not need refrigeration and yes it an set up on the counter, if it gets moved or disturbed during it's set up time you can melt it in the microwave and reset (ask me how I know LOL!)
You rock girl. I purchased a Gelli Plate quite a while ago and my friend keeps borrowing it . lol. Now she can make her own and I can have mine to myself. LOL. I get as excited as you when I get an awesome print. Thanks for the recipe. Love love love your videos. Darlene.
I made 9 of these for a class I taught. The main thing was to have your final place LEVEL before you pour it. Luckily, I did this right before it snowed, so I used a shelf unit outside in my driveway that I checked with a level and put shims to make it level first. Then I carried the liquid stuff in an 8 cup measuring cup out to the shelf and poured it into the frames. I used 8 1/2 x 10 1/2' frames and 2 that were 11 x 14. It was cool enough outside that it acted as a refrigerator. After the first 2, I left out the alcohol and just used water and glycerin. I put each one in the frame in a ziploc bag for storage. They worked great
This is awesome!!!! I was just talking about making a gellie plate instead of putting the money out there, up here the cheapest one is like $50. Thank you soooooooo very much for this one.
that is a new one...hmmm, did you use powdered gelatin or sheets? How is it compared to when you make Jello? Jello dessert would have less gelatin then the plate recipe so that is the same as that I'd say use more but really it should be about 1 packets of gelatin to 1 cup of liquid (water or water/glycerin in a 50/50mix) Try heating the crumbly mess and remelting it, maybe the gelatin did not dissolve properly, start with that before trying a new batch.
lol you are hilarious and no I don't think you talk too fast. You're just excited that's all. Plus obviously very smart and creative, I love hearing all the tips you keep throwing in. I have a tip, maybe -- use a wine bottle instead of buying a roller?
I just remelted mine after almost a year on the shelf. It had not degraded nor molded, but I wanted to make it bigger to accomodate larger sizes of paper. I melted it in the microwave (3 1/2 minutes, probably should have added a spot of water and made it 4 minutes). Then I mixed it with some fresh and poured it out again.
Hi Angela, take a look in the "show more" space under the video, thee is additional info about the gelatin printmaking adventure as well as links to helpful sites and the recipe with sugar I mentioned;) Good luck! Lindsay
I made my gelli plate yesterday and after one big mishap, it turned out pretty good! I made a video of the unveiling and talked about some tips and some what NOT to do's LOL! I mentioned you and this video and I will be tagging you so that people can come check it out! I will add a link here so you can find it easily as well. Thank you again for this awesome video!!!!
Today I've made 2 kinds of permanent Gelli Plates, really cheap. One I've made of the Silhouette Stamping Material and after that I've made a small round one of a silicone backing mat. Both work very wel. With the backing mat you can make a Gelli Plate in every shape you want. Ideal for Christmas ;-) Thank you so much for all your great video's and all the inspiration!
I made one of your gellis after waiting wks for my qt of veg glycerine from Amazon ($11.95). I mixed the gelatine with the glycerine, then added the boiling water. I used an 8x10 plastic box frame but filled it too full and some spilled, got under the frame & suctioned it to the drainboard making it impossible to pick up or move. I scooted it onto a tray to get it to the fridge. As I used boiling water, I take it I didn't have to microwave it for 1 min?? Thanks for your wonderful videos!
a department store that sells frames, it is called an acrylic box frame, try christmas tree shop or the dollar store first for a bargain or search online;) They seem to be pricier online unless prices have risen in the last 10 years, I paid 99 cents for an 8x10 years ago at a discount store.
that should do it;) I might reserve a bit of the cool water to dissolve the gelatin in first then add the boiling water to that and the glycerin. If you need to reset the plate later just cut it up, put it in a pot and melt it down on the stove and repour it.
hi just love what you do. as I live in Australia glycerine is so expense and I came across a product called glycerine soap melt. would I be able to use this product. I think it is 100% glycerine. many thanks
I have a purchased gelli plate but I would love to have the 12 x 12 but the price is tooooo much....going to give this a try. I have seen the plastic frames in craft stores///hoping they have at least a 12 x 12 . . . .you did not give the dimensions of your finished plate....i am wondering if I should double the receipe (how do you spell that word ????)
You talk so fast and you are so busy doing and talking about 20 things all at one time that my husband asked me if that was me on this video or just my long lost mom hahaha :) I act the same way you do when I'm really exited about somthing including the singing. I love to finally see someone how does the same thing hihi. Thats real HAPPY crafting :) Thank you! Love from the Netherlands
I ordered and received my gelli plate today so I was bummed I didn't wait a week. I can experiment with different sizes though with this recipe. Thanks for your research and experimentation.
Since the new cookie cutter geli plates are so expensive, I am going to make my own! Need to buy supplies and some cookie cutters! I will let you know how it all turns out! Thank you so much Lindsay! This is fabulous! ~ Deb
Yella Cullah! I was an Art Class, Independent Study Geek who spent hours of mooooody emotion creating my Ahhbstract Impressionisms...& here comes this fast talking craft super hero who pumps em out in SECONDS. Awesome. My mother in law just sent me this vid, after I seen HER amazing print...wow. Now I'm a fabric/sewing chic, so u can imagine my next move...HUGE.YARDAGE..!. You think the neighbors will notice thier kiddie pool missing at 2am...?
LIndsay I asked you a question below, please disregard, as I read the responses to the questions, I found my answer, Thanks for these videos, I laugh at your hyperactivity...brightens the day!! Too bad everyone does not have a sense of humor :) Love your vids and the great info you provide to us.
Thank you for sharing your fun time with us. So much fun thank you so much for helping us with thinks. I find I do most of my crafting late at night and don't plan what I'm going to do. So all stores are closed for me and finding things around the house helps so much.
Another fun and inspiring frugal craft, yay! :D Totally teaching this as homeschool sciencey-artsy fun! Going to try adding few drops of essential oils - lavender and peppermint which are natural antibacterial and anti fungal. I spritz the stuff everywhere! Lol Thanks as always for the inspiration! :)
As a former Sign Language Interpreter I am so glad I didn't have to Interpret for your Awesome video..How cool, from plastic milk to connecting it to Gelli plates..which are getting very expensive...sorry to the Gelli plate people but bravo to you
Made it last night, used it today, and it works great! Again, thank you so much. I just used one of the drawers from a plastic organizer. One end is odd shaped but we didn't care!
I just wanted to type out a thought since I'm fricken frugal, if my plate ends up getting mold you bet I'm gonna scrape it off and nuke it and remold it. No way am i throwing the whole thing out. I can't afford to buy those ingredients again at the moment.
thank you so much for this wonderful DIY project. I did one yesterday, but I didn't put in the fridge and I guess I mess up the measurements and come out really soft and break ,but I did cut it and I used half of it (I make to thick the first time) then I used some more gelatin and glycerin and I add it to the other ,melt it and now is in the fridge .. wish me luck ,look pretty hard this time and I make a big one 7x11 . I get my cooking tray from the dollar store.
I have it !! I made it and so great !!! I am having such a great time. It is so versatile with an infinity of possibilities ! I am like 4 years girl that has a new toy !! Thanks very much for the recipe !
Hi Lindsay, So after watching your video about 6 mths ago I decided today was the day to try my hand at making your Gelli Plate, I followed the recipe and measure everything out to USA measures I let it sit to cure for 11 hrs and decided to check it, it was cured so I lifted it out of the pan and it all started stretching and splitting, please tell me what I did wrong and why it’s splitting and falling apart. I know I can melt it back down but what should I add to it when melted to help firm it up and not fall apart. Thanks you and would love to hear from you - Kirstie
I don't know that I'll ever actually do it, but it's been fun watching you Thanks for the quasi-science lesson, too. I can now go to bed and rest well, knowing I've learned something today. You continue to amuse and amaze me. ;-) Thanks for the wide array of mediums you tackle and share.
how 'bout another cup of coffee Lindsay...absolutely love watching all your videos! Wouldn't miss a one you're a riot and always so upbeat. What an inspiration. You're the best thank you for your brilliant ideas.
oh no! I guess you should chop it up and met it in a pyrex dish and re pour it next time. I hate to microwave in plastic. Also you could melt it in a sauce pan on the stove too.
WOW! I have wanted to try the gelli printing but my budget just couldn't stretch to the cost here in the UK as they are coming from the US they are a costly investment but this "plastic" home made gelli plate looks much more fun and affordable. Love your energy and enthusiasm! Hugs, Anne
LOVE this!! I made the reg 1 first and it was successful. I decided to make the "new & improved" one. But, I ran into some problems and wanted to see if you can help me. I first mixed my gelatin accord. to these directions. I poured it into a pan that is approx. 9x12, let it set up went to unmold it & it was too thin. SO, back in the microwave it went with the 1st plain gelatin mold thinking I only needed more stuff. Poured it back into the 9x12, and waited for it to set. cont...
If I use the small recipe 6 tbsp gelatin to 1 1/2 cups water and 1 1/2 cups glycerin what size pan do you use? Love all of your videos. Thanks for all the good tips you give us. Donna
Thank your for responding that fast. I think my first attempt failed. Can I heat the thing I made up on the stove, will the alcohol not evaporate? If I do heat it up, do I need to add alcohol again or glycerine?
FINALLY -- I just knew there had to be a way to do that chemically and so tickled to see you had a scientist friend to ask on that! Thank you Lindsey ... just brilliant!
you can smelkl the alcohol but if you don't want that just glycerin in place of it, it will be fine or make the temporary version;) I used part alcohol because I was low on glycerin;)
I know that you created this video a long time ago; however, I just wanted to let you know I have made my own and I followed yours and someone else's video. So instead of adding the alcohol as you suggested, I used just the water and the glycerin. However, I have found that if you soften the gelatin with part of the water and brought the rest of the water and the glycerin to a boil and then added it to the soften gelatin. It was easier to use and set up a lot faster. Of course my was a little thinner than yours, will be making a thicker one some. Thank you for saving me a lot of money.
and that teacher lives in hot, humid Australia and she says it lasts for years, she adds sugar which I imaging helps preserve it. Check out her recipe too;) I need more glycern before I make another one but I do a big supply order from The Chemisrty Store in the fall so I am waiting;)
I saw a Gelli Arts video where they made tape transfers which meant for the paint to dry (even using a hair dryer to speed it up) and putting layers so that "what you see is what you ge"t because the tape goes over the top and pulls off the paint. Have you tried that with the 'hectograph'? (I got all my ingredients today, even bought a shallow pan, but now I'm thinking I would rather have the acrylic box frame....will have to pull the picture off the wall now!!)
LOVE this!! Never had the opportunity to try gelli printing techniques because I can't afford the 20-something-dollar plate.. But now I can!! Can't wait to try this! Thanks so much for the great tutorial! ~tina

Aww, this is the sweetest thing I've ever read:)
What mold did you use please? I have been trying to find a plastic rectangle mold and can't find anywhere! Thanks!
@@DigineeVideo it is an 8"×10" acrylic box picture frame
I made your recipe in 2016 and it' 2021 now, guess what after so many years I decided to melt my gel plate. Well, it looks brand new again.
Hi Lindsay I made this geli plate when you came out with the tutorial and it is now 15 November 2014, and it is going strong !! Fabulous no rotting or mould I just love it and your frugal ways- as the real thing in Australia is crazy expensive! So THANK YOU!!!

I'm sorry it's really late but did you add rubbing alcohol??
You don’t put alcohol ?
I haven't watched very many of your videos, but I'm suddenly addicted. Opening one of your videos up is like lifting the lid on a giant treasure box! Wow, jam packed of information AND entertainment. :) Thanks for both!

I made one of these following your recipe using wintergreen rubbing alcohol, glycerin, Knox gelatin, and water. It smells good and works beautifully! Thank you!!!
Now, two years later, could you update on how that plate held up? I'm debating about using the alcohol along with the glycerin.

Add to the Knox gelatin and stir until all is dissolved. Pour into mold.(8 x 10 box frame). I've also made round ones in 8" cake pans and smaller plastic containers so I have a variety of shapes and sizes.
Sue Cole forgot, I use bottle caps dipped in paint to make circles
Sue Cole thanks Sue for the update! Do you have pics on a blog?
What made you choose to add sugar? Just curious.
Sue Cole a
I read somewhere else that someone thought the sugar acted as a preservative or disinfectant but honestly that makes no sense to me at all.
I ignored that and put it in my new craft room, closer to a window but still out of direct sunlight and then last night noticed a lot of mold.

years I think, it should not spoil and you can melt it if it gets beat up (maybe add a bit more alcohol or glycerin to the melted mixture to replace any moisture that may have leached from the plate during use and storage but it should be good.
Thanks!
great!
I found more gelatin local store ..
!
no need to microwave:) The microwave is handy later if you scratch the plate, you can melt it in the microwave and reset it then if you need to:)
vinegar works with milk as a plasticizer, not sure with gelatin, you can always try a small batch to see.
Thank you Lindsay for sharing all your experiences making the gelli plates, super entertaining!! I love your energy
and the tip on ratio: 2 tablespoons of gelatin to 1 cup of liquid: (glycerine+alcohol+hot water, to help dissolve gelatin)!
Oh, my word. I would never have realized this could harm pets had you not posted about it. I'm so sorry about your pup. 💔
Thank you so much for this caution! I am so very sorry about your dog... I've lost quite a few animals in my life, and it never gets any less devastating.
I had no idea. So sorry for your loss 💚🐾 Thank you for sharing!
thank you for the heads up! i had no idea. this info needs to be included with the recipe!!!
They worked great
outside? Great idea! I use the porch as a fridge in the winter for parties so why not?
You're so down to earth and talented, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
This is awesome!!!! I was just talking about making a gellie plate instead of putting the money out there, up here the cheapest one is like $50. Thank you soooooooo very much for this one.
I was in the same boat as you Anne, they are pricey in the states too! Glad I could make a reasonable substitution;)
It might have shifted a bit as it was setting up, mine did the first time too. Remelted and repour and you should be fine.
that is a new one...hmmm, did you use powdered gelatin or sheets?
I watched the first video you did and loved the technique. I am so glad that you "updated" the technique. I can't wait to try it out!
I just remelted mine after almost a year on the shelf. It had not degraded nor molded, but I wanted to make it bigger to accomodate larger sizes of paper. I melted it in the microwave (3 1/2 minutes, probably should have added a spot of water and made it 4 minutes). Then I mixed it with some fresh and poured it out again.
hovawart16 thanks for the update;)
+Muktha van de Weijgaert where did you get the silicone backing mat? How thick is it? thanks
I buy these silicone baking sheets at LIDL ( this is in Europe).
Thanks for your wonderful videos!
a department store that sells frames, it is called an acrylic box frame, try christmas tree shop or the dollar store first for a bargain or search online;) They seem to be pricier online unless prices have risen in the last 10 years, I paid 99 cents for an 8x10 years ago at a discount store.
the larger plates might take longer, that is right! I hope it works well this time, 3rd times a charm right?
that should do it;) I might reserve a bit of the cool water to dissolve the gelatin in first then add the boiling water to that and the glycerin.
Mine was an 8"x10" so you probably wan to double it:)
Just found your video today. I enjoy the humerous way you present your informative information.
Wow, incredible Lindsay! You are one amazing crafter and the most thoughtful and sharing one out there....can't thank you enough! Cheers
~ Deb
+artzology great idea!
You think the neighbors will notice thier kiddie pool missing at 2am...?
oooo perfect, of course! can it be used in the nuker? or just to mold with?
LIndsay I asked you a question below, please disregard, as I read the responses to the questions, I found my answer, Thanks for these videos, I laugh at your hyperactivity...brightens the day!! Too bad everyone does not have a sense of humor :) Love your vids and the great info you provide to us.
Hi
That looks really interesting - I would like to know if it did actually last out of the refrigerator for any length of time
thanks
Lynne
you are welcome! Thanks for watching;)
I have got to try this!!!! so many times my Gelli Plate is too small for my large journal pages! thanks for sharing your video!
Thank you for sharing your fun time with us. So much fun thank you so much for helping us with thinks. I find I do most of my crafting late at night and don't plan what I'm going to do. So all stores are closed for me and finding things around the house helps so much.
thanks so much, so glad it worked out for you:) I think the handmade plates are moister and therefore keep the paint wetter longer:)
I made me a gelli plate, but it didn't like being out of the fridge. It crumbled into little bits. Hhhmm...may have to add more gelatin?
Hi Lindsay,
So after watching your video about 6 mths ago I decided today was the day to try my hand at making your Gelli Plate, I followed the recipe and measure everything out to USA measures I let it sit to cure for 11 hrs and decided to check it, it was cured so I lifted it out of the pan and it all started stretching and splitting, please tell me what I did wrong and why it’s splitting and falling apart. I know I can melt it back down but what should I add to it when melted to help firm it up and not fall apart. Thanks you and would love to hear from you - Kirstie
That's what happened to mine yesterday! What did I do wrong?
I don't know that I'll ever actually do it, but it's been fun watching you Thanks for the quasi-science lesson, too. I can now go to bed and rest well, knowing I've learned something today. You continue to amuse and amaze me. ;-) Thanks for the wide array of mediums you tackle and share.
it is a clear acrylic box frame found in the framing section of the craft store:)
Your brilliant I wish I'd had an art teacher like you 30 years ago, thank for sharing you brilliance with us
I just love watching all you videos, and can't wait to try this out! Thanks for all your tips and your lovely, bubbly character!!!
I used a 8"x10" box frame, great idea, I know they come 16"x20!
How long does it take for the plate to set up? I'm assuming room temperature to set no refrigeration
Same question :)
it is plastic. Any smooth bottom container will work but I think the plastic box frames work the best;)
how 'bout another cup of coffee Lindsay...absolutely love watching all your videos! Wouldn't miss a one you're a riot and always so upbeat. What an inspiration. You're the best thank you for your brilliant ideas.
no, you need glycerin from the drugstore or pharmacy. Glycerin soap base contines other things too:)
Poured it back into the 9x12, and waited for it to set. cont...
3-pack of Knox: $3.72 x 2 (about $8) bottle of glycerin $ 15. So about $23 plus time and effort to make a $20 item?
If I use the small recipe 6 tbsp gelatin to 1 1/2 cups water and 1 1/2 cups glycerin what size pan do you use?
Love all of your videos. Thanks for all the good tips you give us.
Donna
+Donna Splayt That's what I want to know as well!
Thank your for responding that fast. I think my first attempt failed. Can I heat the thing I made up on the stove, will the alcohol not evaporate? If I do heat it up, do I need to add alcohol again or glycerine?
When I was young my mom made me one!I always remember that some 40 years ago.Have you tried applying it to washable fabric?
FINALLY -- I just knew there had to be a way to do that chemically and so tickled to see you had a scientist friend to ask on that! Thank you Lindsey ... just brilliant!
Hi ..just made 2 gelli plates with yr recipe im actually so impressed with the out come cant wait to use them TFS 🤗
you can smelkl the alcohol but if you don't want that just glycerin in place of it, it will be fine or make the temporary version;) I used part alcohol because I was low on glycerin;)
what kind of paint are you using?
what size was the pan for the mold? for 12 tbsp gelatin, 3 water, 3 glycerin please , thanks
8x10"
~tina
