- Before anyone asks: no, I do not have the rest of the footage from this tape. According to a user below, this much footage was made available by a Norwegian museum who has possession of the original tape. Until the time comes when we can enjoy the full tape, please enjoy this portion!
I am very excited to announce some really really great news. Later this year, on November 16th of 2018, for the first time ever we will have a release of three DVD quality recordings of Mayhem performing with Per Ohlin in the early 90s. These recordings will be two shows in Germany (Jessheim and Sarpsborg in 1990, I knew these tapes existed somewhere!!) as well as the full Henhouse rehearsal tape from presumably the same year. I can't believe the time has finally come for us to see footage of these legendary shows, in first generation quality! Most of us would have killed to even get a grainy glimpse of these live shows, yet we have this release on the horizon. It's utterly surreal.

Same, but turned out that as someone who was realy close to him said he was always smiling from ear to ear when he took pictures of him and he was just a fun guy, not every depressed person is like sad 24/7

well this is ‘88 when he was new to the band. 3 years of living in poverty and being given false promises by Euro meant his decline into depression was slow but steady.
The quality seems really good for something shot in the late 80's on VHS.
Aye it wasn't as bad as many people think. Most of the quality loss was actually from VCR to TV, cut off those two and the q isn't that bad.
I got many tape recordings from the 80's from my family and when digitalized they are superb quality. Good thing these video recordings are not forgotten.

I read (in more than one sources) that Per Ohlin was always depressed, never smiling and fixated with the idea of death, and ultimately that state of mind led him to killing himself, but here we see a happy kid, smiling and having good times while rehearsing with his buddies...
Nobody said Ohlin was never smiling. Also more than one person made reference to his odd sense of humour.
Be careful of what you read... some fans are Telling more lies than the reality
bro he was noted to smile and make jokes all the time…he wasn’t down like in the movie, the movie thing is so shit and makes im out to be this stereotypical depressed kid. Depressed people are not some people full of tears and whit their head swinging of their neck or something. Most of the time you can’t even see depression on a person. He probably had some kind of down moments where his depression was obvious, but he was dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts since he was 7 so he found a way around the “depressed face”

Not saying suicide doesn't lead to purgatory he must've had a big IQ, which led to an unstability coping with reality.
Which is strange as he was courageous enough to front an extreme metal band, maybe he realized he'd gone to far just doing that, he could be been paranoid by his own death drive that the idea of just existing being that guy, the front man just snowballed him mentally into oh God I can't do this

This rehearsal was heavily traded in the underground in the nineties up to the 2000s which is most likely the reason for the bad quality in the first place. The full footage is most likely at least a third gen reproduction. That being said I personally still found the full rehearsal to be more than watchable.

Yeah, I knew I had at least seen 'Freezing Moon' being rehearsed from this same tape, so there's definitely more footage available. But it was shitty quality, so I'm assuming the uploader means only this much footage from the first generation master tape has been released.
