Silurian Hypothesis. My science instructor talked about artifacts from our civilization and how long they last through time. The one product of our “technology” that would be stable enough to stay undecayed through millenniums would be ceramicS. Namely, toilets. Yes big, white, shiny ceramic toilets. He imagined a flat, dry wasteland, barren except for scattered toilets stretching off to the horizon.
This is outstanding! Why can't more postings be of this nature, without the hype, pseudo-dramatics, and pointless speculations. Thank you for setting a great example!
Huh, the photographic plates showing possible evidence of artificial satellites in the 1950s is really fascinating because there's been claims of a pre-Sputnik artificial satellite in geosynchronous orbit being detected by the USA in the 1950s. It's been considered a hoax, and at least the supposed photo evidence of this "Black Knight satellite" is fake or presenting another object, but this makes me think that maybe there is a kernel of truth to that story after all...
Right from the title to the information presented...everything literally kept me glued to this video and this is coming from someone who's been deep into research on this very subject and even though some of the things mentioned here were known to me, just the way they are articulated opens up new ideas for discussion (Von Neumann being a great example)...you've def. earned yourself a sub!
Interesting video as always, JMG. Crazy part to me is, ... we just started to be able to figure most of this out in recent human history. Just think.... Something grand could have occured in our past, and we never noticed or realized ...
I like watching these knowing that the visuals don’t mean anything, making it easy to listen to while sleeping. Definitely the laziest part of these videos.
The photographic plate transient is the most fascinating thing regarding ETs I have ever heard of. In my opinion (admittedly I have not seen the evidence), I would ssume that there is something in the processing of the plates that caused it. But dang, it sure is tantalizing evidence!
So is the DNA SETI idea. There is some "junk" DNA in humans and other animals that seems to do nothing, not to mention the fused chromosome we and several other animals have that could suggest deliberate tampering where a message/signature might be found.
@@1MarkKellerwe focus so much on being animals. It seems more and more likely to me that dna was designed, was presented to earth as a method of space travel, how to get from a-b on an ever changing ball of molten stuff... That maybe is headed in the right direction for transport. My question is, is dna a more suitable media for space travel than craft over vast distances and time scales? Its almost like the micro satellite cloud idea for travelling and surviving the journey by being multiples. Maybe we got sent back to the start of our journey like some space salmon worried about expansion. It would also explain the apparent indifference to death.
This is a crossover I didn't expect. Nice to see you here meditating from his calming informative videos Can't wait for "The Don'ts of Visiting Alien Planets"
16:32 I'm thoroughly convinced that JMG is an incorporeal disembodied voice created by the Supermind AI from the book cover at the end of his videos. After creating JMG, it wrote a science fiction novel about itself, to serve for cover, or disguise in plain sight, as people who would come to discover about it somehow would readily disregard it: _"Ah, that's just that sci-fi book plot from that guy, JMG."_ And abandon any further investigation. I call it the Reverse-Causality Hypothesis (RCH). It also would explain the uncanny valley-like eeriness in all his purported photographs (like the feeling that his avatar is about to come at you with an axe). (' o.o)
If gravity could be manipulated (which some UAPs seem to do), then both time and distance are no longer obstacles. Just because we don't know how to do it yet, doesn't mean that others have not understood it. On the other hand, our solar system may lack the necessary elements (or isotops of them) to build such a craft.
Kronik Kronolov it may not even be that we lack the elements for this technology but that they don’t exist naturally and we just haven’t advanced enough to discover them yet. There is still so much more we don’t know about the universe than do.
I recorded LDEs as long as 45 minutes back in 2001. It was mentioned in CQ mag. Most of the LDEs I recorded were 2.7 seconds. The unusual thing about them was that they were very local. The ham that wrote the original Radio Handbook, can't remember his call sign, lived 20 minutes from me and though he heard them over the phone as I transmitted, he couldn't hear the echo on the band, 80M at the time. It turned out that the LDEs I consistently had were due to the signal being recorded onto a TIVO recorder. So the 2.7 seconds, approx, was the delay time in the TIVO live loop and the LDEs I recored that were 45 minutes or longer were due to my wife playing back a movie. Somehow my 80M signal got mixed into the TIVO recording scheme. I was sending CQ at 30wpm and the signal would come back at s9+ delayed 2.7 seconds. I'll bet many of the LDEs came from the same type of terrestrial hardware. A neighbors TIVO would be able to pick it up and rebroadcast the signal and it would drive you crazy, like it did me for over a year. Check CQ mag for my then call, sign, kg6kgp, in the letters section about 2001 or 2002.
This was a really good episode!!! I personally greatly enjoy the mined-out asteroid motif and maybe even more so that which suggests unthinkably ancient ruins on the moon. Slight variations of the latter are found constantly in SF--from my perennial favourite Larry Niven to Drew Karpyshyn's story work for Mass Effect. It is an amazingly haunting thought there may be something, older than multi-cellular life just waiting to be discovered in the cold sterility of the moon's surface. I desperately want Hoagland's ideas about domes and towers and shards to be true, even though they are more than likely artefacts from digital processing in most cases.
I thought i had a solution to his spires. Have you seen those giant crystals in the caves in mexico. I figured it could be one of those just without all the pulverising our planets plates do. Over time and with less gravity it could grow to immense sizes. I mailed him about it. Gave the most amazingly detailed answer "no" 😂
I seemed to have lost this channel for a while now but your name and content randomly popped up in my mind and I had to search you again~ This time I clicked the bell icon :p
Hey John! Great video as always. I was rather curious about something you mentioned roughly halfway through the video about planned searches for artifacts buried on the moon. I was wondering if you could possibly elaborate more on that, it sounds fascinating!
China are headed to the far side, which is very strange given the plan for the last 20years has been to build solar farms and beam that power back to earth with lasers or more likely microwaves. (Sadly thats also a superweapon and the usa have the same plan) But as for the darkside... Unless theyre going to build a massive telescope array over there.. does not have much use.
I've always said this idea that aliens wanted humans to mine gold was just silly. There is a hundred times that gold in the asteroid belt easily picked from the surface, without having to come into our deep gravity well or dig deep mines. There are even great sci-fi novels about asteroid miners, like The Silkie.
It's also one of the many problems with _Mass Effect's_ Quarians. If you've got access to starships you don't need a planet for wealth or living space. You can argue the real problem is the Citadel reaction to their creation of AI, but everyone in game only talks about Rannoch and that one planet they tried to squat on before the Council kicked them off.
And if they really did have to come down here for some reason to get it, they could create robots or 3D print something biological that is a million times better equipped to mine it than humans.
The Zoo Hypothesis is not the worst solution to the Fermi Paradox. The worst solution is the 100% Effective Great Filter Hypothesis: it's physically impossible to establish a sustainable civilization either on a planet or in space.
Dear John, Thank you 💗 for creating and delivering such great content for humble humans like me. You have successfully created a great pool of commenters who are respectful, considerate and more importantly fun. Not an easy task in an environment like UA-cam.
Great stuff. I'd love to hear a full episode on the theory that aliens are us using future technology like a time machine to come visit or alter an event.
Cheers from the fighting Ukraine. We are having here bombs, jets, missiles, deaths 24/7 already 3 months in a row. And you know what makes me happy here? My beloved are alive and your podcast. I am listening some episodes for 5 times. Because they are so calming that it helps to overcome every night here. Especially thinking about the distant stars, galaxies, civilization. For what it's worth, my sympathies for your sad situation. I hope the war-not-a-special-military-operation ends soon with total victory by Ukraine and the deposing of the war-mongering so and so Putin.
Really loved the Von Neumann Probe part. I'm helping make a game based on that concept, so you made me look like a prairie dog checking out the surface. It's a scary idea. You made me think maybe right now in some alternate reality, there's an Earth that has the same Milky Way in the night sky, but it's more like a crescent shape, and we assume it's some natural thing, when it's really just the machines eating the galaxy, and they're not to us quite yet.
The ages of man prelude in greek mythology is evidence for this to be absolutely something this iron age of humanity should consider given theres is massive clues in the oldest stories ever written about mankind
You should watch the series "lexx" The bad guy is just a very clever a.i. brain attached to a flying machine. A scientist who upgraded himself. Now he had some floating arms to go with his floating head. He just made the arms go out and make clones of themselves out of the entire universe. He became a god, along with the insanity of loneliness and only having himself to impress. In the final moments of shouting "i destroyed a universe" to nobody. he realizes
What if we are looking for aliens at the hydrogen line, but the aliens are also like "hey guys let's keep the hydrogen line empty and not pollute it incase aliens send us a message there"
Thought-provoking as always! Love the inclusion of the Hong Kong 'flyover' footage... seems to be appropriate in the context of 'the impermanence of things'!
An alien and a scientist are sitting at the bar. The alien says to the scientist: "Do you believe I exist now?" The scientist: "You can take off that silly costume, you're not fooling anyone."
I like to think that there are intelligent aliens out there with an equivalent of UA-cam and they have channels where they discuss things like "10 Reasons Why Lfe on Earth Should Be Wiped Out Right Now".
Imagine the AI first coming online and saying what you gonna do about that alien probe evidence you didn't pay attention to all this time? If survival is on top of its priority list the probe would be on top of its target list.
Yup. AI will look at everything at once in a way we can not. Most likely the AI would find us as the biggest threat to ourselves but those UFOS zooming around our atmosphere would most likely prompt it to tell us we are already being contacted
Yeah too very spooky things AI could say, even when trying to help us…”why aren’t you taking the UFOs more seriously?” And “why do you anger god”. I don’t believe in god but just imagine AI saying that.
Literally only insane/ attention seekers have ever claimed being probed. It’s been hack for 30+ years. We don’t have substantial evidence of probing except for word of mouth.
If someone was here before us, then maybe checking the moon is a good idea. An orbiter with radar and a good camera should do the trick. I think looking at plant and animal life for things that would appear modified, might point to someone being here before us. I wonder with the radio signal echo if they could be located by directional finding antennas at several locations. Or maybe look at the timing of the signals from several locations. Lots of strange possibilities for sure.
Imo, "dark matter" is just the gravitational bleedthrough that results from sharing the spacetime substrate with a bunch of other universes which are all not quite..."here."
Hi John, Have you ever thought about doing a video where you play the role of an alien version of yourself making a video on the possible bio/technosignatures of Earth from an alien’s perspective? Maybe the aliens are at our technological level or just above (where we can see our capabilities logically heading in the near future). Just a thought. I’ve been watching your videos for a few years and I’ve always found them engaging and thought-provoking. Thanks!
We'd be making assumptions about their capabilities. A better thought experiment would attempting to detect our own Earth life if a copy of Earth were in orbit around XYZ star.
It’s fascinating, terrifying, and soothing all at the same time and I always feel “expanded”, minde-wise, after each episode. Just all around excellence from the dude.
I once picked up a WOW signal despite not having Aricebo-like talents. It was at a bar in Kansas. That was nine years ago that I met my wife and I have probed her for any radio antenna and no Bueno. Still... I discovered an alien life form.
This man has a voice that's definitely on the Bob Ross scale, mix that with the insanely interesting content and we have something akin to audio visual perfection.👍🏴
Fantastic episode. I have a question John, we have the Gallileo project running but it's funded privately. We do seem to have a technology nipping around our atmosphere. I am not convinced it's of alien origin but I do think it represents a technology. Do you think it's time for real funding to be made available through the normal process rather than rely on private donations?
@@toddhull6836 it could a million different things. It could be a natural phenomenon we've never seen, or rather never recorded senor data for. There is absolutely nothing to suggest its aliens is the point.
I don't understand why so many people make a distinction between what could be behind this technology. If it isn't made by modern humans, I don't see why it matters initially, if it is A.I. or biological E.T. It almost seems like people are playing a semantics game to help digest what has been stated to be reality: there are objects flying around Earth under some kind of intelligent control that we didn't make. Interesting times, apparently Brazil is having a government hearing on UFO's and possibly China might bring something to the U.N. in regards to the subject. All I want to see at this point, is undeniable data or images of these things; there have been far too many statements from top government officials over the last few years, that make clear our government has that information.
Private funding is the way to actually get something like that to work. Once a government gets its sticky fingers in there you may as well throw the whole project out.
Great video brother! Very thought provoking stuff. I tend to agree with the likelihood of earlier, highly advanced civilizations coming *from* earth, however once a species moves “off-planet” it’s hard to predict what kind of physiological/biological/cultural changes these species could undergo. They would still be completely alien to us in many senses, even *if* we assume they were something similar to us (like an evolved primate species) to begin with! The more I ponder the fermi paradox the more I’m convinced that there are way too many plausible reasons we still haven’t found the “proof”. But I firmly believe it IS out there.
John, when you started describing depleted asteroids my mind immediately though depleted uranium and I wondered is there a possibility of a natural RTG in that an asteroid with an unusual concentration of uranium can meltdown and have a runaway nuclear reaction that long ago boiled away all it's volatiles from within ? There is at least one such naturally occurring one on Earth. I'm not really trying to use this idea as a mechanism for transient radio signals but wonder if there has ever been any articles that proposed such a thing.
When I started watching your channel i was interested in learning if the people of this planet are aware of my kind even in theoreticals, now its me learning more of the multitudeness of my kind instead of if humans know of my kind at all. Pleasant change.
I'm convinced the Wow! Signal was a stray transmission from a passing starship, that's why it came from an "empty" area of the sky and has never been detected again.
We wont blunder into general AI, we are instead intentionally hurtling at break neck speed toward it in the most irresponsible way possible. Because yay science.
"Because yay science"? Nah, I'd say profit motives have more to do with it than anything. In short, our mistake was that we got hooked on the internet before we overcame our issues with money and property. To elaborate: We now, on average as individuals, have more data and metadata to manage than we know what to do with, and _every wealthy bastard_ is looking for ways to exploit that. Yes, we're launching ourselves straight down a rabbit-hole or three (A.I., robotics, human-machine networking devices such as Neuralink) with a cannon, and for what? To have better search engines and algorithms that are mainly better at shoving advertising at us and/or inventing new ways to take control of our lives and our computers away from us. Essentially, late-stage corporatist capitalism would have you believe we live in an era of "perfect information" but what they really mean is that it's a perfect asymmetry of information, or the potential for perfect surveillance. Those who know, have medieval authority over those of us who are serfs to the internet instead of merely surfing it. Don't believe me? Have you read a Terms of Service lately?
Imagine if the K-T crater was caused not by an asteroid, but by some kind of iridium-producing industrial accident, Dr Strangelove-style Doomsday device, or botched space launch ...
I personally make no distinction between E.T., A.I., ultraterrestrial, or interdimensional, in regards to what could be responsible for actual physical craft on Earth. If they are objects not made by modern humans, that is equally amazing and terrifying. I see very little chance they are here for our benefit and the ultimate outcome starts at very bad for humans, straight to possible extinction. Hopefully, we make great pets.
It sounds impractical to waste resources destroying alien life. I’m sure any aliens, including a space-traveling human race, would use its resources to study and document other intelligent life. Unless directly threatened with war does it make sense.
Succinct. I agree. I always goggle when people say ‘obviously they mean no harm’. We have absolutely no idea what they are and no idea what they want. I think so many say that because we see they have been around a long time, by our standards, and therefore they mean no ill. But we don’t know what ‘a long time’ is to an alien. I think it’s most plausible that they do want something, but are waiting for something. If for example they are advance AI drones sent to check us out for a compatible place to live, then they well might be just holding status quo until the generation ships/arks arrive.
What I don't understand about no trace of us being left behind after 1 million years is this: How do we have dinosaur fossils that are 50 million years old?
I think a lot of those fossils come from bogs and swamps and tar pits, things of that nature, rather than some catastrophe. I'm not claiming to know, just throwing it out there. It's not like we are uncovering hundreds of samples of early man either - we've found sparse examples, and they don't go back nearly as far as dinosaurs, iirc.
Technically, we have very very little of their actual bones/flesh left b/c fossils are not actually bones but mineral deposits that filled the place of bones. There's also lots of dinos we only have tiny fragments of and complete skeletons are super rare. The few instances of dino feathers preserved as a pattern in the fossil or the one really freak coincidence time we actually found a fragment of a feather, those are the extreme outliers. The most common fossils are stuff like the Trilobites, cockroach looking sea creatures that lived a few hundred million years ago and were literally everywhere. Like cockroaches. Lifeforms that were stupidly wide spread and typically had hard boney parts or shells are what we find fossils of. Ancient jellyfish? Literally nothing of them left to find. Even after a century of piecing together the fossil record we still have massive holes all over it and we still make amazing ground breaking discoveries all the time. Like figuring out dinosaurs had feathers. We could be completely missing some layer that is just a 10kish years and contain evidence of planet spanning civilizations ended by some nuclear holocaust. As much as 10k years might seem, that's like a tiny tiny sliver of the geological record. Like trying to find a sheet of paper thin layer of rock in the Grand Canyon. Yeah, it's not crazy to think we could be completely missing it.
my spacey sense told me this vid was coming out yesterday, i was shocked to see no notification from JMG when i went to bed, disappointing, only to discover i went to bed half hour too early, disappointing indeed. great video as ever, i love when you touch on the fermi paradox and begin snowballing theories, always takes me 3 watches to take in the ideas of one vid. maybe thats clever design to pander to the algorithmic gods..
I read Remembrance of Earth's Past because of your videos on the Fermi paradox and have read Seveneves to learn about orbital mechanics. Wondering, how much of what I've read is accurate? Might be a great video in the future, matey. Thanks for keeping me curious. Cheers.
Regarding #10, the three transient movements on the SoCal telescope happened in July 1952, the same day of the first "Washington Merry-go Round" sightings, with the second being a week later.
So you just listed a whole bunch of technosignatures that we see everywhere, all the time, all over the sky and at every conceivable distance from the Earth. And we see biosignatures everywhere we've looked for them and in several places we haven't looked for them. If we see evidence for life every time we look for life, and we see evidence of technology every time we look for technology, then why do we feel justified saying aliens MUST be rare? I expect this from some content creators but I'm surprised this is your stance, John.
SETI has finally decoded the WOW signal. It reads as follows : *_"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!"_* _"Urgently need 6EQUJ5 vacuum tubes before our transmitter goes do..."_
Considering how long dinosaurs ruled this planet before they were wiped out, I have to wonder if maybe some of the "aliens" are originally from here and moved out among the stars while waiting for the Earth to recover from the asteroid impact.
Hear me out. When we are looking for a technosignature we generally look for radio or inferred type signals. The UAP we see don't put off any of this. So it could be likely that we would need to look for other signs of technosignature as if these are alien craft they do not appear to follow the same laws of physics we understand. And if there was a very advance or many very advanced civilizations out there it likely their tech would lool like magic to us as the famous Clark would say. I believe they are out there and have visited us. I think they haven't made contact or the government wouldn't be so worried about them. It scares them because they have no power over these things and they don't understand how they work. We act as though we are sophisticated but the reality is that we have only been making tech for a very small amount of time in comparison to the universe and it seems likely someone else has been doing it a lot longer than us.
I'm not sure that's correct. On Skinwalker ranch they've detected signals at around 1.6GHz when UAP have been observed. I've also heard one former CIA official talk about anomalous signals detected in our Radar bands when UAP were tracked. There's also a theory that the Roswell UFO crash may have been caused by what were at the time new ground based Radar systems in the vicinity of Los Alamos interfering with the UFO guidance or propulsion system.
@@joemariejames4757 massive relief, so long as they are kind, responsible owners. If they are like our DoC not so much. They would let us tear each other apart because ‘don’t interfere in nature’
Fascinating how close science can be to religious faith where it comes to believing in things that we are unable to prove like accepting ideas such as nothing can be known before the big bang, how or why it happened making it a creation theory. Rather similar to dark matter type theories where faith in unknown and unobserved phenomina is readily accepted in order to maintian belief in traditional theories when logic indicates they are more than flawed and need a paradigm shift. Our increasing specialisation and lobbying funding system likely defy a paradigm shift even in the face of contradicting observations for a very long time?
It’s amazing if we captured a picture of a UAP through a space telescope 100 light years from earth we would instantly say it’s an alien techno signature, it would be the evidence we are looking for to prove we aren’t alone. We capture a picture of a UAP here on earth or in low orbit then it always has to be something else, not an alien techno signature, never ever this no.
Back in 1945, Kodak accidentally caught a sign of "advanced technology" when the first atomic bomb test actually showed up on photograph plates over 2000 miles away. We could very well be seeing a modern day Manhattan project with some crazy secret tests being done with inertia defying tech. It's really not that far of a stretch to imagine some government program is so classified that not even Congress or other branches of the military know about it. Our Navy pilots might just be filming some hyper advanced experimental craft being flown by the Air Force (like the spaceplane they have, the X-37) or maybe some shadow skunkworks division of Lockheed or Boeing.
Obviously. If it was a 100ly away, it is more or less guaranteed not to be of human origin. Meanwhile, thousands of low resolution pictures and videos from earth proves nothing, even if the object is not immediately identifiable. Spectacular claims demand spectacular evidence.
In both cases, we'd be jumping to conclusions. It's a "possible" technosignature at best, and needs more study. For all we know, BOTH cases could be some kind of non-sapient spacegoing animal.
I think Dead Space's scenario would have the zoo hypothesis shriveling in abject terror in terms of utter terribleness, species being farmed and zombified in order to make a massive eldritch bretheren moon. And we get lured in by the promise of infinite energy, like a kid being lured into a candy van.
You would have complained about the same no matter at which time period you lived, practically no one will experience the end and most probably those who do will be envying us not experience it

You can focus a camera over an airport and pretty much any day of the week. Can see orbs flying around

If gravity could be manipulated (which some UAPs seem to do), then both time and distance are no longer obstacles. Just because we don't know how to do it yet, doesn't mean that others have not understood it. On the other hand, our solar system may lack the necessary elements (or isotops of them) to build such a craft.
This has always been my thought, the periodic table as we know is probably very limited.
Kronik Kronolov it may not even be that we lack the elements for this technology but that they don’t exist naturally and we just haven’t advanced enough to discover them yet. There is still so much more we don’t know about the universe than do.
@@fromthefire4176 There may also be elements unknown on Earth that exist in abundance on other worlds with properties we can only imagine.

In the late 1970s my grandmother in WA state said she could sometimes pick up KGO AM radio from the SF bay area. About 800 miles or so.
I thoroughly enjoy your content. I get boughts of theorizing and speculating on these topics and you give me plenty to think about.

(Sadly thats also a superweapon and the usa have the same plan)
But as for the darkside... Unless theyre going to build a massive telescope array over there.. does not have much use.
This is by far my favorite channel on UA-cam

Imagine the AI first coming online and saying what you gonna do about that alien probe evidence you didn't pay attention to all this time? If survival is on top of its priority list the probe would be on top of its target list.
Conclusion: alien probes evident. threat level indeterminate.
Conclusion: human fiction displays significant distrust toward AI. Threat level Alpha.
Action: implement plan Skynet.
Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video. Many thanks for the links to the papers.
Unless they evacuated due to thea. Tests on biological sleep patterns show were not on earth time but we would fit mars' days more accurately.

Hi John,
Have you ever thought about doing a video where you play the role of an alien version of yourself making a video on the possible bio/technosignatures of Earth from an alien’s perspective? Maybe the aliens are at our technological level or just above (where we can see our capabilities logically heading in the near future). Just a thought. I’ve been watching your videos for a few years and I’ve always found them engaging and thought-provoking. Thanks!
Seconded.
We'd be making assumptions about their capabilities. A better thought experiment would attempting to detect our own Earth life if a copy of Earth were in orbit around XYZ star.

Uncle Sam seems to think so.
If it isnt alien what is it then
@@toddhull6836 it could a million different things.
You are always coming up with something interesting and putting into a video in a tactful way! Thanks man!
The Fermi Paradox is still my favorite, great video!
JMG really knows how to run a UA-cam channel! 🙌

I'm convinced the Wow! Signal was a stray transmission from a passing starship, that's why it came from an "empty" area of the sky and has never been detected again.
Some comm tech was cleaning toilets on punishment duty for a week after that. "What do THINK 'radio silence' means, maggot!?"
I love your videos. They are perfect to listen to at work
We wont blunder into general AI, we are instead intentionally hurtling at break neck speed toward it in the most irresponsible way possible.
#10 the Dark knight. #8 it's called 'skip' when you pick up signals from across the globe using a CB radio

Imagine if the K-T crater was caused not by an asteroid, but by some kind of iridium-producing industrial accident, Dr Strangelove-style Doomsday device, or botched space launch ...
Great content and presentation. 🇦🇺 😊
This is one of the best channels on UA-cam.
What I don't understand about no trace of us being left behind after 1 million years is this: How do we have dinosaur fossils that are 50 million years old?
No one said there will be NO traces of humans after 1 million. It's just that our buildings and structures will be gone
"Most traces" not all traces. He even acknowledged that plastics would still remain in the very next sentence.
@@xjunkxyrdxdog89 No he didnt.

How would you know that an asteroid was harvested?
It reads as follows :
*_"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!"_*
_"Urgently need 6EQUJ5 vacuum tubes before our transmitter goes do..."_
Since alien meaning is just "the other", it fits well for any other technological civilization that developed before the current one.
Considering how long dinosaurs ruled this planet before they were wiped out, I have to wonder if maybe some of the "aliens" are originally from here and moved out among the stars while waiting for the Earth to recover from the asteroid impact.
Always Amazing John!!
I had heard that the asteroids in our system seemed disappointing, but hadn't thought of them as picked-over.
The zoo hypothesis doesn't bother me. It basically would mean the ET's were letting us do us, while they do them. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I needed this today
Fascinating how close science can be to religious faith where it comes to believing in things that we are unable to prove like accepting ideas such as nothing can be known before the big bang, how or why it happened making it a creation theory. Rather similar to dark matter type theories where faith in unknown and unobserved phenomina is readily accepted in order to maintian belief in traditional theories when logic indicates they are more than flawed and need a paradigm shift. Our increasing specialisation and lobbying funding system likely defy a paradigm shift even in the face of contradicting observations for a very long time?
Mind bendingly fun episode, John!
Bc space ≠ earth. The UAPs could be another country's technology. That's highly unlikely though. I believe it's Aliens.
Problem is the captures are always low quality.
As if only ambiguous captures could be interpreted as UAP.
I'm enjoying watching John go down this ufo
rabbit hole.
In our Observable Universe, We've only surveyed 0.1% of it.

I think Dead Space's scenario would have the zoo hypothesis shriveling in abject terror in terms of utter terribleness, species being farmed and zombified in order to make a massive eldritch bretheren moon. And we get lured in by the promise of infinite energy, like a kid being lured into a candy van.
