    Actually, this guy is suggesting a way to do it WITHOUT cutting the plastic, which I totally appreciate. I found this video by reading the comments from the other video where the dude cuts a hole in the panel. Thx for sharing this method, myjeepzia-- I'm gonna give this a try this afternoon. :)

    Just replaced my relay a couple of hours ago after watching your vid. The area where the relay sits is pretty freakin' small- I'm a girl with small hands and even I had a hard time getting to it. Can't imagine a big dude would be able to! I wasn't able to get the second screw (on the farthest side of the relay) back in-- it was nearly impossible. Might not be a bad idea to cut a panel in the future if the relay fails again, and just seal it back in place when done. Much thanks!

    Well, on my 2000 grand Cherokee, 4.7 liter,, I had this problem to, couldn't figure out the over heating problem. checked everything else out, nothing wrong. I saw electric fan was not working. I was going to hot wire to battery,, BAD IDEA.. saw the video on cutting the hole. was about to do that, tell I watched this video. Glad I didn't cut the hole. if this works I will tell you in afew days. Tkx for the video.

    I would like to know where this relay is installed in Grand Cherokee 4.7 L 2004, because I did not find this place informed.

    Thats why you see the plastic is bends downwards so water can get out thru bottom of headlights and it wont go into the relay, cutting a hole is the worst thing anyone can do, suggesting that is like ruining the life or jeep of a person, I've seen jeeps catch fire and people getting injured in highways because of relays going bad and overheating causing fires. Take it to the dealer and have it fixed once and for all. It could save your life.

    Suggesting to cut a hole at the bottom of the light or over the plastic near the relay is the worst thing anyone could ever do, it will cost you way more, I did cut a hole in the past to access the relay better and now everytime it rains and I'm driving the relay gets water and it goes bad every few months, I even replaced the fan motor which was told that it also if bad it could ruin the relay by over amping it, but the reason was the hole, it made it worse, the dealer replaced & it works now.

    From experience cutting a hole near the front is not ideal, I did it and found that the relay gets minimal water moist when it rains, it's one of a few reasons these relays continue to go bad, water can damage a relay and readings if it gets to the core between the relay and metal base. Avoid cutting hole if you could. I have to replace my relay once year give or take, no other way about it from pros.

    This is funny because I cut the damn hole and there was nothing there but on my fuse box it says fan relay and there's two square black relays

      Yeah that's what I was thinking when I started watching I'm like why do they put the fuse Box where you gotta cut a hole to get to it!🤯

      Just be patience you can do it I do not remember having a special tool I think just the box wrench one turn at a time

    It's partly jeeps fault for placing relay right behind the light in front, when it rains while you drive if you cut a hole water will get in a bit, no matter how you re-seal it, it will get in and that's the bad part

    What kind of testing did you do to figure out it was a relay?

    • @myjeepzia
      @myjeepzia  8 років тому +1

      There is not too much to it if the fan tested ok then more likely its the relay .

    • @louiemares1610
      @louiemares1610 6 років тому

      Yes I wouldn't hit him bypass the relay and gave power to the fan direct and it would not crank on so I figured it's the fan motor plus I cut the hole underneath the light and I found nothing there is completely nothing there but I just read a comment on top of another guy had the same issue nothing it was found after a whole being cut

    Having big hands doing this method is impossible. It's actually much easier to remove part of the front bumper & the right headlamp than to do this.

    I cut the hole anyway,, taped it back up , after. still over heating. next I'll replace the temp sensor , hope that's the last thing I will have to do.

    the relay harness is what's bad in these jeeps, don't just keep replacing relays

  • @buccaneerbob11
    @buccaneerbob11 11 років тому

    your relay should of came with a new harness that it plugs into, that's the actual problem on these jeeps, (the harness the relay plugs into is the problem, you'll just keep blowing relays)

    Only jeep would put a relay in a stupid place like that.

      Yes mine is a 2004 also and I cut the damn hole and there's nothing there instead on the fuse box there's two square relays or it turned out it was the fan that was not good nothing was relay or fuses
