I’ve heard people with little to no experience shooting usually score higher at basic than those who have more experience. This being because those who have experience shooting have a harder time adjusting to the military way of firing a weapon
Reed Byford dismisses basic a month ago . Yeah it’s definitely true . The military teaches you a certain way to shoot . People instinctively shoot their own way because that’s how they were taught by there family and it’s hard to break that habit
Yeah, it’s a real statistic. When I was in basic most of the people who shot expert had little to no shooting experience. APPARENTLY (can’t confirm) it’s the same thing with people who shoot their whole life but have to start shooting with their opposite shoulder to match their dominant eye.
I would encourage anyone who is never fired or handle a weapon before. To go get some kind of training. Before going into the military. Even if your friend just has a 22 rifle. Go to the range with him get some experience handling a weapon get used to not putting your finger on the trigger in until you’re ready to fire learn how to be conscious of where your muzzle is pointing things of that nature.
Rifle qual for BMT is you only have to fire one round out of your rifle, and it does not even have to hit the target. And if you are not a combat airman in any way shape or form, that may very well be the only time you will touch a weapon.
I often wonder what recoil would feel like for if I hadnt started with a mosin nagant, shotguns and my AK. I remember the first time i got to shoot an AR 15. I was like "thats it?" Made me really appreciate the M4 platform. AK's are still more fun though.
Same. I shot shotguns, medium caliber deer hunting rifles, an ak and an sk, but when I shot an AR it felt like I was shooting a slightly more powerful .22
Got done with BCT a couple weeks ago, now I’m in Sam Houston going through 68W Training. Thanks for making these videos, they really helped me prepare and know what to do and what not to do before I went in and made the whole experience easier. Keep up the good work, you truly are helping people. God bless you and have an awesome day!
I have fired quite a bit over the years, but I feel like it'll be easier to do with with an M4 since it has sights a little more user friendly than the pinhole sights I'm used to. This is gonna come in handy since getting any sort of range training in before my probable time in BCT will be damn near impossible. THANK YOU COLLEGE WITH SPECIAL GUEST NEW JERSEY STATE LEGISLATION.
I remember in basic training a month ago I failed miserably at qualifying on iron sights and my cco . You need both to qualify to pass basic . I was there at the range got three days straight for hours trying to qualify . I was one of the last in my platoon to qualify . They will make you feel like the dumbest shitty person but they help you lol . Also at fort Jackson you need to qualify in both iron sights and cco
My brother knows a former marine sargeant who does calisthenics with him, i contacted him and he said he would help me prepare for boot camp and he said he would help me with shooting and running, before boot camp i have to go to meps after july 24th
Hey Matt, would love to see that detailed video. Could at some point we get that video and maybe see your groupings? haha Thanks for the videos! Ps have you have thought about building your own Ar-15?
I know a guy who went so maybe one day I can do one with him. The problem I'm running into with doing videos with people is they are generally camera shy lol
@mattward what if you are left handed but right eye dominate. can i still shoot left handed just tilt my head to the left to line my eye up to the sight. or would i be forced to shoot in my non dominant hand( my right)
Can I join the military if I’ve had multiple acl mcl and Mencius reconstruction surgery? I have to wear a brace. I’ve heard that I can not join because of this and because I have flat foot? How true is that?
Clark Kent I had acl reconstruction and meniscus repair, is the brace permanent? You need to get cleared for the army by the person who operated on your leg and show them all your medical documents. But if the brace is permanent you probably won’t get in.
BayMan 64 idk maybe you schooled ask a Aussie shoulder and not an American. The Australia army basic training is also probably different so taking advice from an America shoulder might not be the best idea
hey matt just asking... how many younger guys like 17-18 were in basic? im 17 and leaving in july. Also, would i have a difficult time meeting people if there a lot older than i am? kinda a silly question but thought id ask. Thanks!
Nice video and thanks for the tips but in the country I live in I can only get a shotgun and that's only if I get a hunting license or I have to wait until I am 18 and go do a lot of paperwork
Janna Anderson There is nothing to fear. It's just hard work and getting screamed at. Sometimes it sucks but when you look back on what you have accomplished it is well worth it
Lol i think you have covered every single thing you can do before basic, only thing your missing is warning recruits not to buy skittles from other kids with real money
Michael Williamson you’ll use those at basic quite a bit. Don’t get too cocky because it’s similar but not the same thing. I always shot significantly better with the sim. Trust your drills shooting lessons, too many people think they’re pros or don’t need help and don’t get any better.
Ivan Ortega k bud, you don’t need to do any training before you go to basic. Focus on showing up there in good shape so you catch the drill sgts eye for being in good shape you might get offered and option 40 or 18x 😛 but outside of training physically don’t worry about shooting, it’s super easy they teach you everything, you shoot everyday for weeks before you qualify and you can memorize to qualifying sequence cause it’s always the same I shot expert my first time on my qual and so did like half of my platoon. Focus on running, push-ups, sit-ups. You’ll learn the rest there for tactics
DeonGaming YT sure, before you ship off start lifting and working out start doing as many pushups until failure in the morning or after noon. Don’t workout late at night cause your brain can’t get to a proper rem stage and it’s not good for you. For sit ups, look up on UA-cam 10 minute ab workouts and just do that the key to sit-ups is strengthening your hip flexors as well. And running is easy you just gotta be disciplined and start running everyday one day do long distance the next do sprints then the next do some sort of incline running and rotate. (Your run will drop a lot at basic) mine went from like a 13:45 to a 12:24 was my best time there. Overall just be disciplined and learn to enjoy working out and get off your butt and you’ll be fine man. And also when you take a pt test in the army on sit-ups just crash down and slam let gravity do the work for you on the way down and on the way up use your arms to throw your head up
My gun training was in cod

I leave for Air Force BMT tomorrow!!!!
Good luck!

Austin Steifel goodluck in the chair force
Not going to do a lot of shooting in the air force.
@@bignickaguilar4844 if joining the Security forces Then yea

My buddy went into the marine corps with no shooting experience and still qualified, you don't need to shoot before boot camp but it will help.
I was always told to let out half a breath , pause, and fire. I'll have to try your suggestion to see if it's better. Thanks for the advice!
Nope, breathe naturally and what I said is what the military will teach you
I leave Sunday for Basic at Fort Leonard Wood and I have only shot a rifle about 5 or 6 times...
So excited made a 29 on my first asvab and studied for 2 months make a 52 on my practice test and made a 63 on my asvab yesterday just so pumped
Leaving today for Ft. Benning 19D! Thanks for all the videos, Matt!

you should make a quick m4 breakdown and assembly video

That's a nice AR! Love it!

Headed to FT. Leonard Wood 12B May 7, anybody else?
Do you have to do the port arms and present arms then?
Hey Matt, would love to see that detailed video. Could at some point we get that video and maybe see your groupings? haha Thanks for the videos! Ps have you have thought about building your own Ar-15?
I'm from NYC so unless the primary rifle is a single barrel shotgun I'm assed out.
Did you make this video after you went golfing 🏌️
You are correct man, props for noticing 👌
Matt Ward yeah I saw on your Snapchat and instigram stories
Know something is always better nothing, a little practice may help you more relax in BCT than dealing with a lot of stress around then.
Yes, you should. I'd probably enjoy being a weapons technician/armorer.
☝️ Where’d you get that polo? I want one
Who To Salute/ Not Bother vice versa Video
Do you have to qualify with a pistol at bct?
Robbie Wilkie no
Unless you go to buds
Hey Matt love what you do brother!!!! Could you possibly make a video about sniper school
I know a guy who went so maybe one day I can do one with him. The problem I'm running into with doing videos with people is they are generally camera shy lol
@mattward what if you are left handed but right eye dominate. can i still shoot left handed just tilt my head to the left to line my eye up to the sight. or would i be forced to shoot in my non dominant hand( my right)
Weird question, but how big do the targets look from 300 yds away?
Really really small. lol
The front sights are about 3x wider than the target when you look down your sights at that distance
Get your self a range finder, it helps
I’m leaving on June 25
Can I join the military if I’ve had multiple acl mcl and Mencius reconstruction surgery? I have to wear a brace. I’ve heard that I can not join because of this and because I have flat foot? How true is that?

Matt From Gainesville yeah it’s permanent for everything except baseball. Like basketball I can’t play unless I have it. I can run or jump without it.
Yeah if you go in there wearing a brace they are gonna disqualify you. But to be sure go talk to a local recruiter and see what you can do.
They don't care about flat feet, I went to meps last week with flat feet and had no problems
On the bus to benning wish me luck
Good luck!!!
this was a cool thing to know
How do I train with guns in Australia?
BayMan 64 idk maybe you schooled ask a Aussie shoulder and not an American. The Australia army basic training is also probably different so taking advice from an America shoulder might not be the best idea
Do u 8th your own M16

DaZeD I’ll be 17 also leaving in July. I know a bunch of 17-18 year olds leaving so it’ll be a good amount of teens
ah thanks man, only thing i was kinda worried about is with being around a bunch of people a decade older or somthing.
a lot of guys join straight out of high school, so I imagine you'll be around plenty of other teenagers. don't stress it man! best of luck over there
I was in with a 17 year old and I was the oldest in the company. Everyone there is your brother and battle buddy. You will be fine
Rey Mundo wasn't a big deal. Obviously there is a maturity difference
BCT what is more physical or more mentally
Video on that!
Is 300m the furthest we will be shooting out to?
For qualification yes
Is there a BCT in NY or would i have to travel?
You would go to one of the 4 BCT location which are not in NY
Also Can u pick where u deploy or no?
No
I got zero experience with far as shooting other then really a shot gun an was trigger happy
Nice video and thanks for the tips but in the country I live in I can only get a shotgun and that's only if I get a hunting license or I have to wait until I am 18 and go do a lot of paperwork
Hi, I'm wanting to join the army national guard but I'm scared about basic training. Any advice?
Janna Anderson There is nothing to fear. It's just hard work and getting screamed at. Sometimes it sucks but when you look back on what you have accomplished it is well worth it
Joe T thanks I'll defiantly push through, military has always been a dream for me
Stormtrooper 101
Lol i think you have covered every single thing you can do before basic, only thing your missing is warning recruits not to buy skittles from other kids with real money
0 dislikes for know :D
thats a sexy rifle you have.
Went to a national guard center and we shot m16s on a simulation got all but one target at 400 yards i shot the best out of all the future soldiers
Michael Williamson you’ll use those at basic quite a bit. Don’t get too cocky because it’s similar but not the same thing. I always shot significantly better with the sim. Trust your drills shooting lessons, too many people think they’re pros or don’t need help and don’t get any better.
3rd 👀
A pog giving advice on weapons.... makes sense💀💀😂😂
Keaton Cain drop a knowledge bomb on us then?

Keaton Cain so do the max pushups everyday? Do i add another set or just do one set?
