Easily the best review I’ve seen of the A6400, which sold me on buying this as my first real camera from a smartphone. Went over all the pros and instead of focusing on the negative, shed them all in a light that makes them seem not like negatives at all. Especially my hesitation with the flip up LCD, battery, and no IBIS. Awesome work!!! New fan :)
Beautiful timelapses, great cinematics, transitions were smooth and straight to the point. Your best review yet. I think your going to have to start traveling more for reviews because of how high you just set the bar.
Hey man just wanted to say I’m a fan of your videos. You really helped me make my purchase decision a year ago on the A6500. Keep up the great and helpful vids!
Dang Jason, always setting the bar high for every camera review - sooo good! This video really changed my perspective on the a6400, definitely helpful!
This will be my first camera, all thanks to you. I’ve been looking at Sony cameras for weeks and you narrowed it down in one video. Fantastic job, got a sub.
Why would it hurt Canon shooters? What a childish statement. I'm a Canon user and couldn't give a stuff what Sony does or doesn't have. Think about your brainless statement. Does it HURT you if your friend's car has a feature your car doesn't have? Does it HURT you if your friend has a feature on his/her computer that yours hasn't? It seems Sony f'heads are the bulk of people who care about what anyone else has. I just buy what I want and use it.
@@zodiacfml Better DR and vastly inferior high ISO quality in stills. And? Why are you so bothered about Canon? Buy what you want and stop worrying about what others want.
As a subscriber from when Jason Vong had less than 1000 subs, I am so happy for Jason getting closed to 100,000 subs soon. CONGRATS IN ADVANCE!!!! BUT I will definitely going to miss your braces. =) BY THE WAY, BEST REVIEW FOR A6400 HANDS DOWN PERIOD.
yep i was not talking about yours but your dear friend Danny @ that1cameraguy got me confused. I blame him lol. By the way, I also do miss ya collab together. I miss those days XD
Tremendous review Jason! This is quite possibly your best video yet. So much content in a compact video, extremely well shot and fluidly edited. I'm very excited to get mine to pair with my a7iii. Eager to use it for vlogging and live streaming. I'm also excited to no longer have to take blind selfies for UA-cam thumbnails 😂
I was going to review this camera until I watched this and realised there is just no point... well done bro, you cover absolutely everything. Will now be directing any questions I get your way ;)
Amazing... Planned to buy A6400 for documentation purpose and street photography... your videos really help me a lot... The USB charge feature really one of kind...

0:26 His face when he pulls off the „I‘m holding the camera“ „Oh no I‘m not“ trick, he‘s so happy😂 But such an awesome Video Jason, can‘t say you‘re my favorite UA-camr, James Matthews earns that place but you‘re definitely in my top 3😋
This is a very helpful review of the 6400. Other folk have been downplaying this little camera but I think your review points up its amazing qualities and indeed value.
I've watched like 15-20 videos of sony a6100 and 6400 in three days and this video was my favorite and by far the best one, thank you so much for this efficient video; I'm even more excited to buy one and have fun!! :D
I know it will be a learning curve for me. I've been shooting with a cannon Rebel t3i. Oldy, but I have taken some beautiful pictures with it.. just time to step it a notch or 2.
Cool video man! Straight to the point with facts and examples for each situation. After watching, it just made me realize there's a lot more perks in the A6400 even without in body stabilization.
I have both the a6500 and a6400. I intended to use the 6400 as a second/backup camera. But I'm finding I'm using the 6400 most of the time now. The EyeAF is easier to use. I'm not having problems with image stabilization either. I fretted for weeks over buying the 6400 without IBIS but I'm finding it's mostly a non issue.
Mine should be here next week. Cannot wait. I'm moving from a cabin m50 and really looking chard to the new features I don't currently get to enjoy. 1080p/120fps, the new auto focus, no recording time limit. Thanks for the review, I have subscribed. :)
Would you recommend this model or the older a6500? I’m looking into a new camera for shooting videos and I’m diving into the various models on the market right now. You mentioned some stabilization problems with this model, if you’d recommend a standard lens for the a6400, which one would it be?
Hi Jason! Amazing video. I wonder what lens did you use on the camera at these points: 3:53 and 4:10 ? The video looks amazing and I am struggling to achieve the same clarity and crispness with my current lens.
Great Video Jason. Its Very well organized into distinctive Sections and Extremely helpful for people to get a Very complete picture of all the Functions they need to know about
I ordered an a6400 with the kit lens 16-50mm today from Ted’s , about to order the Sony 18-105 f4 Lens, a real beauty, with built in image stabilisation (OSS). Had the a6000 before that.. excellent too.. just sold that today. Best time to buy with 15% discounts! I live in Australia, Victoria, in the country.
Thanks for this review! It’s the best one I’ve seen as you actually go into the detail needed to decide for myself whether it’s the camera for me, not just put your opinion on it based on your existing priorities. The menu and customisation stuff was super useful to know 🤜👍
Well damn, this really turned my opinion around. I'm an a6000 user in desperate need of a new body, this looks quite compelling. I'll still wait for that higher-end APS-C to see how well that turns out.

IBIS doesn't even work that well in the a6500, so that's a non-issue in many situations (not every single one of course). but the BATTERY LIFE is the main reason i want one. selling my a6500s asap! feb 28 hurry up!
J. Sanchez no. It uses the same battery, but the whole point of this camera is the improved processor that uses less of that same battery. I get under an hour on an a6500, and people on average are getting 1hr 30 minutes or so with the new a6400 and same battery. This is the main thing I want. I recently got an A7iii and still only have 1 battery, yet it lasts all day and I’m rarely charging it, compared to carrying 5 NP50 batteries for my a6500. The change with the a6400 will be similar. Maybe only 1 spare battery to bring.
Phil Jones65 ok. Complain all you want that’s fine. But some of us are busy making content with this “old gear.” If you’d like to wait for the perfect camera, have fun. *shrug*
Phil Jones65 the small body is exactly why I like it though. Just... don’t buy it instead of telling others why they shouldn’t based on what you prefer?
I don't need the 6400, but I'm finding myself naturally drawn to it in a strange way. Holding tight for the A7SIII to upgrade my SII from, but as a B-CAM with some vintage lenses, I can see a lot going for this camera. NO RECORD time limit GO! Oh a much lower SLOG ISO as well I'm sick of 1600 ;) EDIT: sorry really great review Jason.
Been waiting for the camera to come out in my country, watching your vids and research. End up getting the XT3!! 😅😅 I already have an a6500, so hopefully if they ever come out with a7000 besides the a7siii! Anyway keep your vids coming!
So it wasn't just click bait. It was definitely the best review of the 6400 I've come across so far. Good review. Very informative and easy to understand since I'm a beginner.
I think the A6400 is for a more casual use and is has a flip up screen. The X-T3 it's more serious, 10 bit, up 400mbps, 4K at 60fps, amazing color profiles like Eterna. In my opinion the things that the A6400 has over the X-T3 is the price, flip up screen and no recording limit. I purchased the A6400 had it for about a week, returned it and got the X-T3. The X-T3 is definitely a step up.
May I have your help please? I saw you on the Kraig Adams' "Sony A6400 Cinematic Vlog Footage - CATALINA ISLAND". At 1:54 you were demonstrating a gimbal. Did you use that gimbal in this Hong Kong shoot and if not what type of gimbal is that, please, in Catalina Island? I don't think 5 Axis stabilization is available in all the better inexpensive quality mirror-less cameras and camcorders I am researching for landscape and nature shoots, such as the a6400, and sometimes ibis is not that great anyway when it is. Is your gimbal better than ibis when tripod mounted?
@@JasonVong So, just picked it up at Best Buy (along with the 18-105 G and the Sigma 30 1.4 Contemporary) and whoooo boy do I love this camera. The menu system on the other hand....
I don't want to switch from my A6500 anyway, I want a real successor of the A6500 with the new processor AND IBIS. Come on Sony! Don't want to go without IBIS. The best Sony APS-C lenses (namely Sigma 16mm, 30mm, 56mm) are not stabilized. Sure, the Sony IBIS is not the best anyway, but you definitely notice the difference when using longer focal lengths such as 56mm. Also for stills. When switching from A6000 to A6500 I definitely recognized the difference having IBIS.
They should work on a new firmware for the A6500 to have some of the features of the A6400... like common the timelapse feature and skin tones allot they can fix with an update ! #comeonsony !
Justva question how do you manage to insert that Peak Design anchor into the camera without using the rings? I can't fit my quick release anchor into my A6000 camera without using that ring.
This is one of the best entry level cameras in the market right now. I'm actually thinking about upgrading to this camera from my beloved A6000. Still waiting on a new APSC body from Sony, but this is a step in the right direction.
I don't want a side screen. I prefer the screen on top, yet they should put the microphone mount to the side (90 degrees turned) with an 90 degrees separate adapter.
Larz B not true sir. On a gimbal and the screen on top you have to rebalance the camera every time you switch the screen where as when the screen is on the side all you have to do is twist the screen gimbal still in balance. Try it some time. I have. Try getting a low angle shot pointing up with your flip up screen. Side screen can maneuver any which way you need. If all you are using your camera for is “selfie stuff” sure I guess it may work. I can tell anytime someone is starring at their self. It don’t matter where the screen is. Everyone is so caught up in selfie. Further adding a bracket to hold a mic is just more added equipment. This is not fictional for run and shoot scenario. I don’t know why I’m wasting my time trying to explain this to a person who lives in a selfie words. You’ll never get it. I’m out

I found this channel! Such a unique and fantastic review! I can feel the atmosfer of Hongkong, Good job 😁👍
They should work on a new firmware for the A6500 to have some of the features of the A6400... like common the timelapse feature and skin tones allot they can fix with an update ! #comeonsony !
Can you tell us which all lenses you used with a6400 and also, how is the kit lens?
It's a SONY you can't go wrong.

Hey Jason, which lens would be a better choice for wedding shoot? Need blurry effect a lot as well as normal portraits.
Only if it had stabilization... Oh and 4k 60fps
if it had 4K60p... i would say its better than the a7iii 😂
would you pay substantially more? If so wait for the a7000. If it ever comes. LOL
Justva question how do you manage to insert that Peak Design anchor into the camera without using the rings? I can't fit my quick release anchor into my A6000 camera without using that ring.
No new aps-c lenses... So I will not buy it... Ask Sony to make more lenses for APS-C thanks.
This is one of the best entry level cameras in the market right now. I'm actually thinking about upgrading to this camera from my beloved A6000. Still waiting on a new APSC body from Sony, but this is a step in the right direction.
The magnesium shell feels so much better than the a6000 too. I'd just do it :p
There's the a6300 but this one kills it. The a6300 is a failure twice now. I expect a ton in the used market selling little to nothing.
How dare you say it doesn’t matter. People want a side screen. You know you do too. Stop making Sony think they are giving us what we want.
I don't want a side screen. I prefer the screen on top, yet they should put the microphone mount to the side (90 degrees turned) with an 90 degrees separate adapter.
Larz B then you’re just crazy. Because side screen gives you more functionality period. Easier to use on gimbals, more angles to view.
Larz B lol butt hurt much? Your opinion is just that, an opinion, a wrong one at that. Don’t be mad when you’re told you’re wrong.
I’m out
Just so happen to travel to the same spot a month ago, think gonna study from your shots and prepare for the next trip! XD
Great video as always!
