    Some of my advice to new beekeepers. Is if I had to start all over again. I would go with all 10 frame medium equipment. For a number of reasons. As far as apiary placement. I like my hives facing to the southeast. With morning sun and afternoon shade. If they are in direct sun and the temperature gets to 105 farenheit and above. They probably will abscond. I also have my hives spaced 3 feet apart to prevent drifting. and on individual stands. Last but not least good luck with your new adventure

      I use 10 frame deep then medium on top, the brood is all housed in a deep...that's what I prefer but I'm new to beekeeping.

      Mark, does placement depend on your location? I'm in Illinois, but I see someone replied to the video from the Philippines. I just ordered my first hive and am looking for the best info I can find.

    Ya know that feeling you get when you see a really good movie, the one that makes you smile and tear up at the same time? When you have a memory of a time when true peaceful happiness washes over you, the world is calm and you know that everything is gonna be just fine. When you look at the camera Kaylee and say, Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and learn something old. I have those feelings all over again... Your videos inspire me. Thank you for taking the time to spread that feeling into my life and everyone else who follows your videos. And for all the solid information you share with us, future beekeepers.

    I’m still working on catching my first wild swarm.
    Living in a northern climate, overwintering is my biggest focus on providing a new home for them, so I’ve chosen to build a horizontal insulated deep frame Layens hive, allowing me to transfer from trap to hive by simply swapping frames.
    Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge!!!
    I have much to learn! I experienced getting buzzed yesterday, when watching a beekeeper go through his Langstroth hives.
    I gently spoke to her, & said it’s ok, am I standing within your flight path? I’m sorry, I’m not here to bother you, just to enjoy watching all of you doing your thing. 🙂

    I'm getting back into beekeeping next April--so excited, and I'm going with the Flow Hive. I live in the city, so that hive suits my needs, and so excited to simply turn a knob and have honey flow out of the back of the hive. yes, I'm aware, this does not exclude me from tending to my hive. Thats the fun part.

      same here. I'll learn beside a beekeper this year, take the neccessary exams and certs, and next year hopefully able to start with Flow Hive. Can't wait for it.

    • @bradgoliphant
      @bradgoliphant 3 роки тому +1

      @@cseloteipeter I'm not five weeks into my first hive--and my bees are freakin amazing. Beside being strong workers, they are small cell bees and SUPER, DID I SAY SUPER SWEET!!!!! In five weeks they have built out over 8 deep frames of natural drawn wax. I don't use foundation of any kind. As for exams and certifications there are none. Just make sure to know your bees, know the necessary beekeeping skills and how to manage and take care of them, and then take the jump. Your real learning will come after you have your bees.
      As for the Flow Hive, this hive fits together like a freakin glove--it is sooooo well made it looks like a piece of hand crafted furniture. Make sure to stain in and seal it AFTER ASSEMBLE. And when you get going if you ever need to run some question by me, I'm happy to help. bradgoliphant@gmail.com

    Great Video Kaylee ! So one thing I noticed that you did in this video.... and this is coming from someone who does NOT keep bees, but has watched and learned from alot of different beekeepers and their videos. Sometimes you move fast, I have learned that when you take your time and make all of your movements slow and gentle that they respond much better to it. Again, I dont actually keep bees myself... I just learned from watching other beekeepers. Now Im sure I will get berated for this comment as I have not experienced realtime beekeeping myself, and I mean no disrespect in anything I have said. This was just an observation that I had noticed while you were inspecting. I learn alot from your videos Kaylee and you do really make great content. I can imagine it gets hot in that suit even if it is vented and may cause anyone to try and hurry things along. The weather moving in of course didn't help either. Thank you for continually sharing all of your knowledge with everyone, even me... the video beekeeper lol.

    • @RyunForsman
      @RyunForsman 4 роки тому +5

      Nobody should be berating you on your comment. There are a lot of factors that go into the attitude of the bees. I have some colonies that are incredibly chill no matter how fast or slow I go. In fact, on my inspection the other day on one of my really calm hives, I lost my grip on one side of the frame and it bumped the box pretty hard. The bees obviously jumped up in excitement because of it and there was a flurry of activity for about 2 minutes, but none of them tried to sting me. They all settled down, went back into the hive and resumed not caring that I was there. I finished the inspection with no other excitement. I have another hive that is a lot more "hot". Smoke or no smoke, as soon as I take the inner cover off, I get covered up in bees. I've only taken 2 stings from them this season, but they work nectar like mad women, so i just let them do their thing and only intervene when needed. Weather plays a huge part. Even my most docile bees with get agitated when really hot dry weather comes in with no nectar flow. When storms roll in, I don't go near them because they get too excited. A lot of it is just learning your bees and adjusting as necessary. (Sorry for the long reply)

    Hi guys, I've watched a lot of your videos, I also learned a lot from the way you raise bees. Can I ask how many princesses are needed in my 5-story bee box? 1 or 2 princesses? and can two queen bees be kept in the same bin? Thank you very much

    Hi! Thanks for your videos! Why do you have straps over the hive covers? Do you have strong winds?

      They help me sleep at night! Strong winds and stormy weather are the main reason:)
