Back in my party days, I pulled into my driveway @ like 5 a.m. & Silent Lucidity comes on so i turned up the volume & my mom comes out. I'm scared I woke my mom & she's pissed. I apologized to her & she gets in my passenger seat & says,"Johnny,(Thai accent) I like this song, play it again". We listened to this song @ 5 a.m. & I'll never forget this moment. She passed on my birthday birthday in 2011. This song reminds me of her & I cry every time it comes on... thank you for reacting to this. Y'all have a good day...One...

As much credit as we give to Geoff Tate, Queensryche as a group is just fantastic. Geoff is not the only one that deserves praise and accolades. Although I love Geoff and he was the voice that helped me all through high school, the songs/albums should be given credit as well. These guys were such good song writers and no one seems to appreciate the band/songwriting ability these guys had.

@@philkakid5617 Exactly! The songwriting is actually more important than the singer. When you get both the songwriting of DeGarmo and the voice of Tate, you make history. Once DeGarmo left, the songwriting clearly wasn't what it had been.

You can really tell the differnce in the band after DeGarmo left the band, the songs fell off, and it has gotten worse since Tate and ROckenfeld got pushed out. Now they regugitate the sound and songs of thier first ep and album, imo. Chris though was the heart and soul of the band much like Izzy Stradlin of Guns N Roses, once he left the songs and the sound went away.

Geoff Tate reveals his vulnerable side.
Orchestration by the late Michael Kamen. If you hear similarities to the orchestration of Comfortably Numb as performed by Pink Floyd, you are right ✅: he orchestrated the music for that and the remaining songs of The Wall.
In 1990, the sane year when Queensryche released Enpire, Kamen composed and orchestrated the music for the soundtrack to the movie 🎥 Die Hard 2.
The next year, he worked the same roles for the movie 🎥 Hudson Hawk, again starring Bruce Willis, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, writing ✍ Everything I Do I Do It for You with Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange, and Kamen also orchestrated Nothing Else Matters for Metallica.
To get the essence of the late Michael Kamen, I played 6 songs consecutively, which he had some involvement: 1 Daryl Hall singing Dreamtime 2 Metallica performing Nothing Else Matters 3 Pink Floyd performing Comfortably Numb 4 Queensryche performing Silent Lucidity. 5 Bryan Adams singing Everything I Do I Do It for You. 6 Bryan Adams (again) and the late Paco de Lucia performing Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman 👩

a possible reason for the comparisons to Pink Floyd was the fact that the composer of the orchestrated section of this piece was composed by Michael Kamen, a composer who had worked with Aerosmith, after this recording Queen for the Album A kind of Magic, and who scored the original Highlander score as well as scoring the Orchestrial pieces in Pink Floyd's The wall. He had helped Geoff and Chris Degarmo with the arrangement, and would do so again for their track "Real World" The Voice speaking guiding you to achieve the Lucid dreaming is Geoff Tate with his voice pitched down to give it that dream like quality.

P.S. to my other comment. The deep, speaking voice, in the middle instrumental section (that sounds like a nightmare) is almost certainly Geoff with some kind of voice effect/filter added. He says:
    "Visualize your dream.
Record it in the present tense.
Put it into a permanent form.
If you persist in your efforts,
You can achieve DREAM CONTROL, dream control.dream control..." etc.

I've been saying for years that the greatest music is where there's a blending of genres and styles. In this case, we have a band who normally trades in heavy rock showing that they have roots in both Folk and Classical as well as being versed in the semi-Psychedelic of the later Pink Floyd. I'm not normally a Queensryche fan, but this is a gorgeous track. I'll even use the over-used term, a masterpiece. Musically and lyrically, absolutely perfect.

Did you catch at the end the bass played the lullaby go to sleep? The entire piece was so well rounded and full of emotional imagery. There's so much that it overwhelms but its because the guitar sets the tone and the drums guide you willingly into the dream that this song builds for you to experience and the story hits so many moments in peoples lives that they engage with the song and are carried away in the experience. Most of the time it gets very emotional and many actually cry because its so beautifully created and the warmth of Geoffs' voice comforts them in security. It says don't worry you are safe and everything will be ok. This song is a masterpiece. It's a shame they did not make it longer as i just want to hear more as the song progresses. You know how you can run a song into the ground after hearing it half a dozen times in a row? Well i don't get that with this song. I've been playing it in my head for a very long time and I'm not getting sick of it at all. ♥

Jet City Woman was soo good. Geoff lost some of his high registers from the specific technique he learned (not bringing up your chest to reinforce the upper registers), but he continued with training his lower registers. His mastery to the craft is pretty legendary tbh.

The music video visuals are better for this song plus on the studio version you hear the sonic booms and cool drumming of Scott Rockinfield
Wow those Tama drums and chained cymbals now thats awesome!!

You definitely need to check out Operation:Mindcrime, both the album and the live concert video. One of the best concept albums made- a Classic.

Composer Micheal Kamen did some of the arrangements, gives it that cinematic feel.

This is probably the hardest song I ever done karaoke. That is considered that I train my voice to stay in the persona of Axl Rose.

You forget that you already praised his range in Take Hold of the Flame? His range is probably the best ever in metal.

Geoff hits the second verse and Maggie is impressed with his range... um... I'm glad she went on and saw other songs that actually show what he could do. Doesn't matter, I'll keep rewatching QR reactions until the internet is replaced with VR experience and becomes absolute. :P

You might also give Moody Blues "Nights In White Satin" a reaction...if you can find it in some versions (probably not any of the live renditions) there is a poem after the song. I think you'll enjoy.

I absolutely love what the drums do when Tate sings “come tumbling down and a new world will begin.” This has always been one of my favorite bands of all time. For two straight years as a teenager, I listened to nothing but the “Rage for Order” album. And mean nothing! There was so much to hear and dissect on that album.
