For all Non Niner fans, Purdy was expected to be QB4. He beat out the then QB3 for the third position before the season started. Dude went from QB4 to SB in less than 2 seasons. gtfo.
I'll so add that the comments on his pre-season games last year are enlightening. Plenty of ppl saw that he was the best QB on the roster even then. I've seen one person predict he would be the starter by week 5, which isn't too far off what happened.
Yep, Nate Sudfield was QB3 before Brock
SF ate 2 million cutting Sudfield just to keep Brock on the roster. That put him on the radar for me
@@johnbull1568 yeah, I remember watching Brock in preseason and was wow'd by how fast he played and how decisive he was with the ball. and when Jimmy G got hurt, my Cowboys loving friend was saying they needed to go after Baker Mayfield or start someone else . I told my buddy "naw, I think Brock will work out, and we should run with him going forward". Turned out that was the smart move xD
I will add that they also gave Sudfield a guaranteed $2 million to not even make the team. That’s how sure they were of Purdy.
Jed York used to speak frequently until after the Harbaugh days and after catching flak it simmered down then once Kyle and John came around he said he would take a backseat and let them run the show.
Yeah, I think a LOT of the blame in that situation really was on the previous GM.
York listened to the then GM, which then led to the fall of Harbaugh. Harbaugh was not the problem.
How did these guys not remember York from the Harbaugh era. Not that long ago. He was the cocky young rich kid owner who said too much in the media, team blew up. Seemed to learn his lesson and stay out of all the football ops and seemingly grew up a lot since then. Like night and day.
@@9r393that was 10 years ago. And they weren't covering the sport then. Very region specific so I get it.
He was actually asked about that in the same presser
Congratulations to Brock Purdy on getting a National Sponsorship Deal with Toyota! It’s kind of historic as Toyota has never sponsored an athlete nationally until Brock came along. I hope it turns into a great opportunity for both. It will definitely help Purdy monetarily.
no more Broke Purdy!
Wow!! This kid breaking records on and off the field!😂 well deserved 🤙🏼lets go!!🏈🙏🏼
@@49erascon40 he's also got the john deere sponsorship.
Jed York (CEO of the 49ers) is the nephew of Eddie DeBartolo, the owner of the 49ers during the Walsh/Montana era of the 49ers. He lost the ability to own the team due to issues out of the NFL. He sold/transferred the team to Denise DeBartolo, his sister and mother of Jed York.
Eddie was caught up in a New Orleans gambling scandal and the then NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue had to step in.
Jed York speaking less over the years has been his best move as CEO since his family took over.
49ers fan here... He learned his lesson after firing Harbaugh when the entire fan base petitioned for Jed to get fired. Look it up... it's a great Jed press conference
He made a lot of mistakes early in his role as CEO of the 49ers, but hiring Lynch/Shanahan and taking a step back and letting them be the face of the team was a wise move, born of maturity.
I agree. Hoping this little presser is a one time deal.
Some of that was in Harbaugh too he kind of want to act like the owner I loved when he was there. But he wanted to over step the wheels of power and dictate the whole front office.
If you look back at the drafts Trent Baalke drafted for Harbaugh you would have nothing but admiration for Jim. Jack swat was the exact draft result past 2011.
It's hard to admit mistakes and pivot away from $20m Jimmy G and raw Lance to Pick 262. Props to Shanahan for telling owner, but he should have started Purdy in '22. Kid would be even better now!
I disagree, I think holding him back and relegating him to the practice squad gave him valuable experience & confidence without the hard knocks. He also was able to get time to learn the offense. The whole situation played perfectly as we can see.
@@eddierodriguez3472 possibly, but real ones overcome adversity, I've heard Manning and Aikman say they needed the humbling they got as Day 1s. Fragile-minded QBs get exposed, see Wentz and countless others.
@@ImportAlit is what it is. He made it to the nfc championship last year so its irrelevant on what youre saying
Nah you wanna let the kid have as much time to get the terminology down and adjust. Timing worked out pretty much perfect
@@shunm8247 He balled out last year, but if he was playing from day one, 49ers would have been hosting Philly last year and may have beaten KC too, we'll never know.
Purdy was actually 4th string and beat out the 3rd stringer
York wasn’t this guy a decade ago, micro managed the team too much. Him, along with then GM Trent Baalke chased Jim Harbaugh out of town because they thought they were the reason for team success. Everything collapsed and York at least learned he knows jack all about football. Was smart enough to hire a guy that does and has kept his nose out of it since.
I’ll give him credit for that. Sign the checks and defer
I remember that bs. Shitty times for the team.
He’s learned a lot you can tell
Yes, he and especially Baalke were bad at running the team. So glad he finally got rid of Big Ego Baalke.
Jed learned real quick that being the face of the team as an owner doesn’t work. The face of the team should always be the QB or coach. Jerry Jones.. you listening? 😂
His growth has been something Fr Fr. I couldn’t stand the man before.
*Fred Warner told Trent Williams* *_Man, I can’t wait to watch Purdy play tomorrow,”_*
Once Brock Purdy took over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13 of the 2022 NFL season, it didn't take long for the rookie 49ers quarterback to prove he belonged.
*But months before he became starter, a conversation Purdy overheard during the preseason showed him his veteran teammates liked what he had shown in practice.*
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer detailed the chat between All-Pros Fred Warner and Trent Williams in his latest piece, which offered a glimpse of the support Purdy eventually would receive as the team's top signal-caller.
*"Man, I can’t wait to watch Purdy play tomorrow,” Warner told Williams the day before San Francisco's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, unaware Purdy was standing right behind them as they trotted into the 49ers building.*
"So I was getting some guys’ attention,” Purdy told Breer, recalling the moment. “Like, 'OK, I’m doing something right.' "
Purdy's opportunities in his first training camp last season were sporadic, taking snaps after Trey Lance and Nate Sudfeld got their fill while Garoppolo practiced on a side field amid trade talks.
never heard of this, thank you
For anyone that has played on a football team, you know who the best players are just a couple weeks into the season. Apparently Kyle saw it right away.
Right he saw it right away but after trey was hurt they put back in Jimmy... I think this was all cap
@@dharris1084able you think York lied about the convo with Kyle? In another interview they mention why Brock wasn’t number 1 on the depth chart at that time.
@@dharris1084able they had previously invested 20 million on Jimmy g. He even stated that they didn’t plan on changing the depth chart regardless of how good he felt Purdy was
He may have forced it: "Hey Trey, run this ball up the middle why do 't you"! 😂
Trey was given two plays and checked out of the first one to the run up the middle.
Jed York really flourished when he stepped back and let the 2 person he hired to do the job, unlike Jerry Jones. Simple.
Make the Mr. Irrelevant Movie, the Brock Perdy story
thinking of an actor who can play this and can play football tbh
Hey you cowboys fans, take note of how an owner is supposed to conduct business! Jerry is your problem 🤣
You think?
What an incredible underdog success story. Brock was the 4th string qb. Insane. I would be smiling and dancing if i was Brock's agent. Endorsement deals are coming their way.😊
He and Eli just signed a deal with Toyota, I hope he stacks up endorsements so he can take less on his team contract and keep the squad together
Netflix comming for that movie license
this ALL looks good for York today.
but early in his management of the team, he HAD Jim Harbaugh. and Jim, in his FIRST year, got the 49’ers to the NFCCG.
but after 3 straight years of one Superbowl loss and 3 NFCCG appearances, the guy fired Harbaugh. probably the most idiotic thing Jed ever did.
lucky for him, he hires Lynch as GM and got Shanahan afterwards.
Although Harbaugh got us to the Superbowl, I think it was his combativness with Balke and his Ra-Ra style of coaching that was wearing on the players that acumilated to the degree that led to the sacking.
I don’t understand how the media isnt loving this cinderrella underdog journey from Brock Purdy. Last pick of the draft to a superbowl. You cant script that any better.
As a 49ers fan. We HATED him for running Harbaugh out. But since he went into the background, we are on a good run. Thankfully he has faith in Shanahan & Lynch. #PleaseGet6
As a Niners' fan, the animosity between Jed York and Harbaugh during those years has made me hate him for a long time. Glad he's stepped back and let Kyle cook, hopefully he learned a lesson from all the nastiness with Harbaugh.
I still do….as do most of the Faithful. I think that’s why we haven’t heard from him as often since Kyle came on board. The Yorks know they are disliked.
This Jed York is a breath of fresh air vs during the Harbaugh runs where he thought he was gonna be the next Jerry Jones.
Could someone please solve that Rubik's cube on the desk? My OCD can't take it.
Purdy was not part of any plan. Shanahan and Lynch had a plan and it failed miserably (trade up for Trey Lance, sell off Jimmy G, etc.). When that plan blew up the last guy anyone expected to show up was Purdy, and he thrived. I would argue Purdy now makes Shanahan/Lynch look like they had a well defined strategy all along, when the one they really had turned out to be a disaster. Purdy has saved the team in that sense. I give Shanahan credit for recognizing that Purdy was the guy and that they needed to pivot. Just as Belichick did years before with Brady over Bledsoe.
Shanahab and Lynch didn't say Purdy was part of the plan
Moltke said, “No plan survives contact with the enemy."
Churchill said, “Plans are of little importance, but planning is essential."
Eisenhower said, “Plans are worthless, but planning is everything.”
Tyson said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
I would put more emphasis on the moves Kyle/Lynch had to make to even make it possible for Purdy to be on this team, and the moves they made to put him in a position to be the backup option to Trey and Garoppolo. Any strategy developed in a constantly changing environment must be regularly assessed and adjusted. Failing to plan regularly is folly, as is stubbornly sticking to one plan or strategy (i.e. trey lance) in a changing, unpredictable environment.
Where I would criticize Kyle and lynch is in going into a championship game against a 70 sack team with Josh Johnson as you're only backup QB.
He wasn’t saying it was the plan when it all happened. He said at the start of last season in training camp Kyle told him that Brock was the best quarterback out of the three. But because of all the money and pics invested, he wasn’t going to change the depth chart or the plan.
Yeah, that’s why he had to pull Jed York to the side to inform him that the plan might not end up what was initially envisioned and that Brock Purdy may end up being QB1 at some point in the future. It’s called a pivot
There were early training camp reports from beat Niners writers saying Shanahan spoke highly of Brock and the players like Kittle too so lol of your hatred for Shanahan comment tho
What a great story, Brock is a real gamer.
Watching him in the preseason after drafting him you could tell he had potential.
Jed York learned his mistake with micro-managing Jim Harbaugh. Not doing it now.
Thanks for learning from your mistakes Jed
Jed has been around and has grown into the position. It's his 18th year with the team, the 13th year as CEO. H was also CEO when they went to the super bowl when Harbaught was coach.
He played a ton of football before getting drafted. 46 games at Iowa state including 8 as a freshman when he took the job. 40 starts in high school, became the starter on the varsity team as a sophomore. This is all on his wiki page
Shout out to Jed York for keeping his promise, and building a culture within the organization that is top tier guys who want to win! All he needs is that SB and bam 💥 NINERS bayyyBEee
I knew pre season end of packers game. This kid was SPECIAL.
They cut their qb 3 and remember Jimmy was back with the Niners last minute, Lance wasn’t fully ready and Purdy was always ready. Kyle also didn’t force it as told by York.
How have yall not heard him talk when he tweeted after the loss during the Harbaugh era that went viral. He ain’t talked since then til now 😂
I really believe all the best players have something to them that you can't test at the combine. You can't tell by looking at them. You can see it immediately on the field though. Jerry Rice didn't wow at the combine but he certainly did on Sundays. Same with brock
Shanahans actions speak even louder than his words. You could see his confidence in Brock based on his play calls in Brock’s first start
Niners fans at one point (me included) were once scratching our heads and had angry words at Jed after he let his ego get in the way of the Harbaugh firing, Willis and Justin Smith retiring after Harbaugh got fired, hiring Kelly and Tomsula as HC’s, and etc. but now he’s come around and matured it seems
none of us have any idea if the harbaugh firing had anything to do with york having a big ego. i loved harbaugh but we don't know what actually happened there. re-read your comment and realize that you basically just admitted to liking someone when the team is successful and hating them when they aren't. york has always been a quiet, humble ceo who is rarely in the media.
Kyle chose Trey before anyone else. Traded how many drafts to get him. I don’t give Kyle any credit. Brock fell into his position because there was no one else.
Eddie D was arguably the best NFL owner of all time.
Jed is the Nephew of Eddie DeBartolo thats how he got the job.
Remarkable. The Niners a a high-performance organization staffed by pros -- including the owners.
Could you even imagine Jerry Jones having this type of humility? And allowing the coaches to coach and not him?
york used to get absolutely ripped by 49ers media and even more so by the fans. honestly he didn't deserve it back then, he's always come off humble and honest. they were just looking for someone to blame at the time for the bad years we had, york has always been a good dude.
Then why didn’t Shannahan make him QB 1 at the start of 2022?
How much conviction did he have? A better example of a coach who proved he knew the rookie was better is Pete Carrol/Russ, he actually made him the starter week 1
York had to climb his way back from being removed as acting ceo. It was 2017 or 18 that fans were paying for a Banner advertisement plane to fly over the stadium on Game Day calling for him and our GM's head at the time. How many times have you heard of that happening?! Lmao!
Maybe this is why he ran Lance like a running back.. all makes sence now..
49ers have a 2nd owner too. Gideon Yu.
while that's cool that kyle knew purdy was the best qb on the roster, telling york that but not actually making any depth chart changes shouldn't earn him any credit. he's the head coach and calls the shots, if he really believed purdy was the best he should have moved him up the depth chart to at least the backup qb. because if we're looking at it objectively, it was mostly luck that trey and jimmy got hurt giving purdy the opportunity, otherwise its unlikely purdy would be starting. what if nobody ahead of him ever got hurt? then your best qb isn't starting because kyle was afraid to make a change based on optics.
He is the nephew of the original owner
Glad Kyle knew what we could all see during preseason…..minus the cult of Trey.
or all Non Niner fans, Purdy was expected to be QB4. He beat out the then QB3 for the third position before the season started. Dude went from QB4 to SB in less than 2 seasons. yeah stop the Cap
I knew he was the qb when he mop up with KC the ball he thrown to Jennings almost score wasn't over thrown Jennings gave up or else it a Td!
Jed York is the nephew thats how he got to take over the team. York costed us a bowl unfer Harbaugh
I don’t believe Jed York, PERIOD!
it would be a very strange thing to lie about, especially since the comments were public and shanahan could refute them if he wanted to.
It just doesn’t make any sense. If he knew he was better, why put Jimmy G after Trey gets hurt. But most importantly, how does this help the team now. Even if it’s true, poor judgment. Such distraction before the biggest game. I just don’t get it. I did like John Lynch follow up interview.
Shanahan: this guy is our best qb but I'm going to keep him 3rd string.
Macafee: the NFL is a meritocracy.
...
exactly, no credit should be given for these statements unless kyle acted on it and at least moved him up the depth chart one slot to backup qb. someone with courage would have started him very early on and not cared about the optics.
@@twistedspine7300he did move him up the depth chart though, he was supposed to be qb4
We only complain about nepotism when it's at this level but it's very common for kids to stay in the family business. For them it was originally real estate, with Jed's grandfather, and then Eddie took them into the sports world (first with the Pengiuns in the NFL and then the 49ers), that's what Jed grew up with, real estate and sports was the family business and that's what he wanted to do. If they never got into sports and he was just doing real estate with the head start he got from being 3rd generation in a family owned company, no one would say much (unless his dad ran for president, I guess).
Jed took over the team when it was bad. The owners, his parents, were bad at running the team. They made bad coaching decisions and the fanbase wanted them gone. Jed really wanted to bring his childhood team back and while a lot of us were worried about this nepotism CEO making things worst, he was able to get us back to a Super Bowl with the right coaching decision (Harbaugh) and eventually learn from his mistakes during those years when he hired Shanahan and Lynch.
The fact that people covering the sport don't know what he looks like is great. He said in that same presser yesterday that you usually would only see him at bad times, firing and hiring a head coach, or when there's some big legal issue with a player. There are very few owners people would recognize and it's not really a good thing for them. They're either bad owners or jokes, or both in the case of Jerry.
jed york fucked up with harbaugh by siding with baalke. hes learned from his mistakes and is a great nfl owner!
How much better would the 49ers be if they hadnt mad that idiotic trade for Trey Lance and had kept those first round picks?
Right? Like drafting two above-average offensive lineman, and an above average cornerback? The team might've gone 20-0 this season.
To be fair to York, this isn't actually nepotism. Nepotism has such a negative connotation attached to it. These aren't just people in power giving positions to and playing favorites toward relatives. The organization is essentially a family-owned business, so they can hire anyone as CEO.
???? There is nothing wrong with, and I don't care that Jed York is the owner.. but there is no arguing that this isn't nepotism. Every private company is "family owned” in some sense, that doesn't change anything.
@RobbinHoods I don't think you understand my post in connection with what was said by Pat in the video. All good though. Have a great weekend
@@hawkylu381 wtf r you talking about? I heard what he said in the video and I saw that you said ”this isn't actually nepotism" and then went on to describe how this is actually a clear cut case of nepotism by the end lol..
@@RobbinHoods I'll just say it again, have a great weekend. I'm not here to argue with you, lol.
The Yorks have owned the 49ers for so long
Now it all makes sense!! How trey lance got injured! When he said shanahan never forced it, it immediately caught my attention to where i remembered that game he got injured the first game, he was running nothing but qb power runs down the middle, if that is not forcing a qb to get injured I don’t know what is. Shanahan wanted lance out and purdy in, only way was with an injury, wow, it all makes sense now
A lot of phony 49ers fans in the comment section. Lol Purdy has been Dealing!!! Throwing Dots!!
Eddie Debartolo was a nepo kid too, His dad bought the team in 1977, but due to NFL bylaws at the time he couldn't actually own it, and so turned it over to is 27 year old son to run it.
When draft-bust QB Trey Lance was traded by the 49ers to Dallas, he was portrayed as a victim. The real victim here is Jed York and the 49ers, who forked out about $30 million in bonus money and salary, as well as multiple high-round draft picks, for a guy who cannot play. By so grossly misjudging Lance's talents, they made him a millionaire many times over and set up for life.
Bs. So they knew he was the best qb but didn't give him any reps. Brought back jimmy. And when trey got hurt they went to jimmy. If brock was so good and they all knew it why do any of that.
Yeah it’s big nepotism but at least he’s good 😅
Purdy is only slightly better version of Jimmy G

@@CapeCod_y2k I disagree.
I told people Lance wasn't the guy. He never had enough play time, he is sheepish and struggles to speak intelligently. MOST, not all QBs that are worth anything tend to speak well. Just my opinion of course, for those that get triggered by this.
Who’s Peter king? Is another old fossil who’s still doing radio or something?

Obviously they didn't know when they drafted him, but its possible he was the best QB the first week of training camp. That isn't saying much since Lance is trash and Jimmy G was probably just ramping up.
