Joe has always the most humble QB great ever. That's my GOAT!!!
I love Joe's demeanor (having followed the 49ers since about 1978, a great time to start), but make no mistake: He is low-key bent with the GOAT talk surrounding Brady. You can tell, from what he says, he's thinking, if I didn't retire because of my back...
But Joe's got nothing to apologize for. He'll always be my favorite 49ers player.
There are two quarterbacks who are far about the rest Brady and Montana. Case closed.
My too ❤❤❤❤
His record speaks for themselves. It's Joe Cool and Daylights second .
@@AxlKhan-v1f he is the bet quarterback of all time bar none ?🏌️♂️🏈

Word for word bar for bar
Yes...
Sorry, but I'm on the Brady side on this one even though I grew up marveling at what Joe and the 49ers did in those days.
Joe Montana looks like James Bond
Joe Montana looks like Joe Montana...
Which James bond 😂
@@elinovak3770 Daniel Craig, obviously
😂😂😂 that's hilarious.. he does look like Daniel Craig
😂
Well he is no joe Montana joe is the best bar none ?❤❤❤❤
The mailman. Got to love Montana
Karl Malone? 😂
@@9eRw1n HAS nothing to do with that. Lousy call. Malone delivery to the rim. However, John Stockton was the real mailman if you compare it with football. Montana delivered to Rice, Craig. Stockton delivered to Malone. Sorry gee, bad cal.
@@9eRw1n Thats what I was thinking. Being a mailman is a good thing, it means that you are trusted and faithful to deliver
Joe Cool
Both Montana and Brady describe their roles as getting the ball to their playmakers. Exactly what Purdy get accused of "only" doing.
Joe never threw an interception in his 4 Super Bowl wins.
yup, Joe was a game manager. Just don't turn the ball over and put the defense in bad field position.
@@manofthepeople2165 game winning drive from own 8 yard line in the Super Bowl🥱
In the 2012 Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, I recall Phil Simms, former NY Giant and rival of those 80s and early 90s 49er teams, was one of the announcers. There was a critical moment when Colin Kaepernick threw a pass so high that not even Randy Moss had a chance to jump for it, sailed over, and Ed Reed picked it off.
Phil Simms mentioned that Kaepernick just became the first 49ers QB to throw an interception in the Super Bowl. The 49ers have had 5 appearances in the big game before. He specifically said Montana never threw an INT in 4 appearances. Steve Young not one in his single appearance. "They got championships."
One of the harshest burns ever.
True
Thats why its crazy people say mahomes is better already when his superbowl play has been subpar
Best quarterback EVER. 🏈🏆
Wrong. Brady is the best.
Wrong. Marino by a country mile. @@timnik2902

@@newrizons0238 Please help I forgot.
Cowboys fan here. Hated him in the moment but what a great qb and a class act. Mad respect for JM. This conversation is moronic. Game manager. That's what every starting qb is!! Trust me when I say every Cowboys fan would take Brock for our game manager in Dallas over Dak every day of the week.
J Montana and M Jordan were pure winners.
Montana even more. Jordan won in the 90's. The 1980's NBA East was a lot better overall. Look it up. Not just Bird and the celtics. The 90's east as a whole was not strong. Yes Penny and Shaq were going to be great and they got to the finals young but then Shaq left . Orlando would have given Chicago more trouble as time went on if they stayed but they didn't. My Knicks while tough and rugged were not the same level of skill as Detroit Bad Boys had and Chicago was already used to that. Montana played against the NY Giants Big Blue Wrecking Crew for a decade. To me it was more Montana and Wayne Gretzky were pure winners. Wayne in the 80's probably smokes everyone in terms of what he did for a decade compared to anyone else.
Right on
Joe Montana was my childhood HERO and a big reason I fell in love with the Niners ❤️💛
Dwight Clark
Couldn’t have said that better… use to imitate him when played in the street as a kid.
SAME!!! 💯💯💯💯💯
JOE MONTANA = Greatest Of All Time! no gate this or gate that. Only pure winning!
So because no one slandered his name he's the GOAT?
Gotcha!
@@happyjeminibecause he wasn’t caught cheating multiple times 🤦♂️
Brady is the GOAT, and it isn't even close. Purdy is the best QB now.
Agreed
Montana won 4 superbowls with 0 interceptions.
Still get chills watching highlights of this guy play even now. Legend
The real GOAT
The old saying says take what the defense gives you and don't force it when you don't need to. SF took Purdy with their last pick that says a lot about their scouting staff and make other first round busts look idiotic.
not only that, it essentially showed just how bad scouting is in the NFL
and they didn't draft Rogers neither Mahomes when they have the chance ! professional scouting !
The 9ers also passed on Tom Brady. He's from the other side of the Golden Gate. Jeez! Rodgers played college ball, Cal Berkeley, right across the bay bridge. Jeez!@@jolove3751
@@jolove3751well on the other hand, good for the scouts for making the money they do without talent I suppose 🤷
so why is the game manager hated
The GOAT spoke
They won the Super Bowl in 1985 and then in the following draft somehow landed Jerry Rice. Life was good back in the 80's for the 49ers.
Joe Montana!!! My hero!!! Joe is humble, just like Brock is.
Faithful to the Bay!!!
Joe is such a cool person. So modest.
joe montana = 🐐
One of the reasons he is revered as a QB and player, he is because he is so unassuming. He was the coolest mailman, but in his prime, a stone cold killer.
Brock Purdy is so good that you have analysts contradicting themselves talking about him. So easy to forget he’s a second year quarterback coming off of a potentially career ending in injury. He’s breathing some rare air.
he had tommy john surgery, how is that career ending? If anything his arm is stronger
Brock has the best talent around him all he has to do is what Joe said just give those players the ball. Joe John Jerry Brent and the rest had to put in the work. Take away all that talent and then see what happens. Tom the same way he had to be surrounded by talent. Today's NFL teams dont have to work at it just surround them with talent. Players are spoiled Tom was the example.
Bro Tom won with a nobody receiver crew one of the years. What are you talking about
@@walkdeep🙄 Patriot fans always making excuses.
The reason Joe Montana is the GOAT to me is his name just sounds so Americany footbally. Far more more footbally than "Tom Brady".
THE GOAT.
There is no such thing as a “game manager.” NFL QB is just needs to throw accurately, hand off effectively and avoid getting sacked. How is that just managing the game? At the NFL level, that’s elitist. Period.
Definitely the GOAT. Used to watch him at training camp when they trained at a small Norcal community college. The lunch room was sectioned off by players, staff, press, public, etc. He would go and sit with the public and eat & chat. Was a highlight of my childhood.
Rocklin! I was there too 👊🏼
Pat McAfee questions are so long I often forget what they are lol.
Joe Cool, the real GOAT. 49 ers Nation
I always expected Joe to do whatever was necessary to win the game. He didn't always, of course, but Joe made fans feel confident of victory. Brock's got the same vibe.
joe also had alot of interceptions
@@jmgonzales7701 Not in the big games. Deadly accurate in the Super Bowls.
@@MikeyD22 sure but superbowls is not the only determining factor. He also didnt throw alot in one of his super bowl wins. Not to say he isnt great but if you look at stats it isnt impressive.
Joe Montana was the greatest manager of the game in the history of the NFL. Let's see. Montana managed everything on the field- his offense, his defense, and the entire opposite team, actually he managed every single person on the field - coaches from both teams, (seriously, because the other team staff had to make adjustments all the time if they want to stop Montana), Joe managed the referees (quietly and smooth, no yells, no screams, just his soft and seduced smile), he managed the crowd, the waterboys, even the security guys (sometimes the plays were so amazing, the folks want to jump into the field). Joe Montana was the real Silent Assassin (How about that smile all the time?). Joe Montana is as good as a classic rock and roll from the 70's - Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers. Period.
Scam Newton is the Al Sharpton of the NFL. The only thing Scam’s missing is Tawana Brawley
Funny you say Al Sharpton, because Newton has been packing on pounds instead of losing them.
It was so cool to see Joe on Saturday in person in LV then the night after of Sunday I saw him pass down the nfc trophy 🏆 on tv so cool ❤
Having watched Montana play, it's amazing how he makes it sound like he just gave the ball to someone else who made the play. He was just amazing to watch.
Sorry disagree all you want . Montana was the best there was...
He’s the greatest to me!
Montana created the word GOAT 🐐
The word "Goat" was created after him! Because of him.
Montana played when qbs were brutalized on the field. Brady benefited a lot from changes in the game since that time.
One more 49ers. LFG
Brady got more rings. But Joe Montana will forever be THE GOAT. You do t see this guy all on the media or making headlines.hes almost Houston a regular person walking the street. But who's a legend.
Joe Cool is the GOAT who's always humble and gives credits to others. Best human.
Montana was Elite stop it with the game manager chatter
Great to see Joe. My opinion the best. He could do anything.
Pass, run, scramble. A very strong team mate.
Joe cool
Joe Cool! No other like him!
Purdy Cool ... now their is .
Whose opinion do you trust, Joe’s or Cam’s or even these talking heads…..need I say more. I realize TB12 has more accolades, but Joe will always be my GOAT of QB’s.
The actual GOAT.
The greatest that's all
Cam Newton thinks he is the Goat. Mahones another 'goat' trainee is very good, he's gonna win a couple of SBs in the next years, but he will never have the royalty, the finesse and the class of Joe Montana.
We had joe Montana... then he leaves and who knew he had steve young as his backup what are the chances! Lol we had it good in the 90s
I met Joe and one of his sons a few years ago and spent about 20 minutes with him. Couldn’t have been nicer and was fun to talk about football and other things with him. True Legend.
Love the story at the end when he was ducking Bill Walsh so he wouldn't have to go in against the Cowboys when Steve DeBerg was getting crushed on every play
"Thee Legend"
The Original Goat! JOE KOOL!!!
Joe 😎😎😎
Montana's best interview moments are these glimpses into his past like he talks about at the end of this video. It humanizes him and makes it super easy to relate.
Rams fan here. Joe Montana brought me a lot of Pain over the years. Tons of respect for that Man!!
The object of the game is for the best team to win. If a quarterback has most valuable player of the game type of numbers and loses, give me the game manager who wins instead.
Veey under appreciated quarterback
He's the mailman! You are so cute Joe!
Joe's greatest accomplishment might be turning around the Niners franchise. They were absolute trash before he showed up.
The late Wayne Walker said it best...Joe is as cool as the other side of the pillow🤙👏🫶🙏. I became a 49er even when they were so bad that they couldn't give away tickets😂 then, Walsh n Montana came along and changed our mentality from the agony of defeat, to thrill of victory 🎉🎉🎉.
A couple of things: somebody should ask Belichick how many seasons Brady would have lasted if Lawrence Taylor, imho the greatest defensive player ever, was on the other side of the ball. Phil Simms had Taylor on his team and he played one season less than Montana. To introduce my son to LT, I showed him highlights--my son's not a football player, but he said: every highlight is a personal foul. The other thing is the 49ers do not have a great offensive line and Shanahan's plays take a while to develop, but I never hear Purdy complaining
One of the only maybe 5 people whose opinion on qbs actually hold weight.
Joe was the coolest…
Montana The #1 NFL 🐐 👍
Joe Montana nails it - one more time.
Cam “tenth best-fumble” Newton should just sit down and take a football 101 lecture taught by Prof. Goat Montana
What a classy guy Joe is.
Overall, a great interwiew. But neither of the participants corrected the other on two flagrant ommisions, Joe
not mentioning DWIGHT CLARK among the list of his heralded team mates, and the interviewer not mentioning that Purdy is the qb the fans have been longing for since the departure of the great STEVE YOUNG.😊
Joe Montana is so cool you don't know him by face just by name 😂
Imagine Nick Wright trying to debate any of this face to face with the GOAT.
Joe Montana: “As a quarterback, I figured out that the offense wasn’t about me.” My gosh, no wonder this man was one of the best (if not the best) quarterbacks ever. Unlike most of today’s superstar quarterback wannabes, his stats didn’t matter. What mattered was winning games for the TEAM. He also played when quarterbacks were also football players, taking hits and not getting extra protection from the rules and the officials.
Why do people act like Steve young is not beloved and a legit top 10 qb of all time?
I actually view this guy as the GOAT. Joe is like MJ in basketball, saved their best for the biggest moments. I can't think of anyone else that played in superbowl that much that didn't at least choke occasionally.
Good questions. I would be nervous talking to the GOAT.
One of the GOATs, and still humble about what he did. Watch and learn kids.
Crazy I met this legend at my local farmer’s market 🤯
Wow love you Joe greatest QB ever 🏈🏈 my dad was a die heart 49ers I was just a kid and watched with my dad all those games an when Joe came along my dad was in awe and he got to see all those Super Bowls 🏈🏈🏈 been waiting a long time for this LETS GO 🏈
Joe hasn't forgotten 'the game', how we played it, from the vacant lot to the pony league field , to the high school rivalry stadium.
Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Brock Purdy all had great talent around them..
Joe “Cool” Montana

Go Niners!
Joe was the standard Tom came and shattered all that. Joe played for both organizations but 9ers is where it began
THE REAL G.O.A.T. PERIOD……👊
GOAT and I don’t want to hear about Brady. 4 wins 0 L and during a time they could actually hit a QB.
Joe Montana, for me he is the GOAT
Joe Montana is the greatest and Brady looked up to him. Tom Brady is the greatest and the only GOAT! Brock Purdy will get there!
The greatest I ever saw
He just basically said everything cam said about him In a more digestible way
Basically called him a game manger
well if thats the case then joe is also a game manager
@@jmgonzales7701 that’s what he was saying in so many words this not my opinion of him

He never lost a championship.
He is the GOAT
Great words from one of the goats! Joe cool🧊
Love Joe,Great and humble❤
OBVIOUSLY it is too early in his career to judge Brock's ultimate trajectory. What makes him special NOW is the ability to calmly process elements of a play in 3 seconds or less; usually making the right decision. This talent is God (or Nature if you prefer) given; not a creation of coaching and practice. It is what made Joe Montana so SPECIAL among his peers. This ability coupled with the aura of calm/COOL is redolent of Joe Montana's mystique. Anyone who watched the NFL in the '80's can't help but see the similarities in their styles of play ("similarities" does NOT mean "as good as").
The only other current QB who even remotely possesses this skill is Joe Burrow. Sadly, injuries have gotten in the way of his development.
4+9er is #13 Brock Purdy
Loved the goat even before i knew about football
He just called him a game manager
Brock does well because he was a D1 QB for a midwest team full of less than the best players relative to bigger schools. he learned how to work with less compared to QBs rated higher than he was at far bigger schools.
Joe THE ABSOLUTE G.O.A.T. of all time. Brady can hold his jock strap !
Go joe
Joe was stupid for that one👉🏽hiding behind Bill so Bill couldn’t put him in.🤣😂
