Great interview! I must admit when I heard Joe say in this interview that when he went to the Chiefs, they had these little speedy wide receivers who were outrunning his arm, that made me smile. Willie Davis and I ran 4.3 in the forty and got up the field fast. I specifically remember a conversation about this during the first week of practice. Joe told us he was not used to our speed and had to get the ball out faster. He underthrew us a lot initially, but then he figured it out. Such a privilege to play with him.
Dude, longtime Chiefs fan.......loved the JJ Birdens, Willie Davis's, Derrick Walkers, Lake Dawsons.........combined with that defense, those were some great, great teams. As much as I love the Chiefs success the last 5 years, there is a part of me that will always miss the Chiefs of the 90's.

it's good to see guys from his generation talk about how it was back then... These guys were OCs at the field, they knew more than coordinators know today. I don't think we'll see anyone be undefeated with 4 SBs again, ever. Montana is a master and to me he's second only to Young, because Young had the pressure to get into those humongous freaking shoes whenever the team needed him... and retired with the greatest passer rating of all time. What a duo!
Man I'd be peeing myself talking to Joe Montana. I met Jerry Rice once and I was besides myself for the next half hour. I can't imagine meeting Joe. Such a legend!
Montana is my hero. I was in the Bay Area when he came up and took over from DeBerg and he changed football forever in San Francisco! Forty-Niner fever was a real thing thanks to Joe. I’m older than Joe but I look up to him. He’ll always be the BEST to me. Thanks for the memories, Joe!
I am a Joe Gibbs redskins fan. Grew up in dc. One of first ever live games I saw with my Dad was the 81 niners team beat Theisman and the skins. … I despised Montana then. Now, I can’t stop listening to interviews with him. He’s the best. I really feel he is the goat. I know Brady has the bling. But nobody is cooler than Joe. Unreal respect for this man and the Niners.

I feel in love with Joe Montana during his championship runs. What a joy he was to watch! We were so blessed to have him. Once Steve Young started playing, I kind of lost interest in the game until now.
Joe gives me a warm inspiration, I played with him so much in TECMO BOWL. lol when the other kids wanted me to play any other team I usually go home. That's when the other kids picked up I was obsessed with San Fran and some even asked why. The logo. the logo displayed a strong. message: (Strong Force)
Sega went on to make NFL2k after they moved on from Joe Montanas sports talk football. Fans would call for 2k football to make a return before Sports talk football. Deep cut though.
I had a huge crush on Joe Montana when I was a young girl in the 80s. And it was so innocent: I was just floored by his energy and charisma and that basically he could command his incredible team (in my mind) to do such amazing things. Good to see he's such a down to earth person and the celebrity and physical demands of the game didn't ruin that.
2 of my favorites. I’ve loved Joe since I can remember. When I was 9 living in central California, my uncle was a cowboys fan and gave me crap before the catch game for being a 49ers fan so I was instantly a huge fan. I’ve become a big fan of Pat recently. Pat is a must watch for me now, he’s really the only reason I watch ESPN anymore.
I was 10 when I met Joe at Ventures in KC. He was supposed to be signing items, but his injury prevented him from doing so. It was an awesome moment for a 10yo kid. Still wish I could have gotten my card signed those 30 years ago, but that's life. I know he's rooting for SF, but go Chiefs.
I lived in Orlando & Joe went to the Chiefs. So I got tickets when the Chiefs played Tampa. Loved watching Joe, poetry in motion. Blowing out the Bucs, by 3rd quarter, all the Bucs fans sitting around me started cheering for Joe & the Chiefs. Loved every minute. Best QB to ever play the game.
I was 16 when super bowl 16 was played. Had a shirt that displayed "Roaring Back" 49 ers. Montana is my favorite Q.B. All time. Hope Brock can change my mind!!
There’s NO trying to be “”cool “” it’s either you are or you’re not!! Millions of people aren’t cool but millions of people are the absolute coolest because they’re not trying to be cool 😎
I’ve never seen any better film and footwork still today than the Greatest of All Time Joe Montana. He was absolutely incredible and a surgeon with the football. The grace, the touch, the timing. All in such a brutal era. Was grateful to say Joe and Dwight held me as a baby in 85’ during the Dynasty Days. No one more humble and a class act than the great “Joe Cool” aka JOE 3 : 1 6.
Joe, you;re my all time fav NFL player, period!!! I liked how you explained losing your job to Steve. That is, it was nice to actually hear you come out and say it. And yes, Steve was good, but you were better. And like Jerry Rice says, you should have been able to compete to get your job back. Who knows HOW the '93 and '94 NFC championship may have turned out, with a proven QB who KNEW how to win tough games. And also......I hate that John Taylor gets forgotten so much, so thank you SO MUCH for bringing up his name. Like Rice, he was a great receiver, very talented at avoiding a tackle, and a super good sportsman. That Monday night game with the Rams, the 49ers were gonna lose that game, until John's two 90 + yard TD catches happened. THAT my friend, was super amazing. And YES, he;s hall of fame material. I seen this picture somewhere, of you three on the side line, on the bench, you were in the middle, Jerry on one side, John on the other. A picture worth framing, I say. Joe, I am no one to anyone, but meeting you would be on my bucket list. I've gotta tell this story. In 1981, I was 15. And I badly wanted to see some of these no name teams rise up and start winning. I seen the 49ers go to Pittsburgh, and BEAT Terry Bradshall and the Steelers mid season. THAT impressed me. I was a fan from that day on, and NOT disappointed. Also, a little shout out to Mike Wilson, backup, 3rd or 4th WR........he'd been there for ya all those years. We don;t see or hear much from him, but he seemed like a great sportsman, great guy. Thank you all. Barrry
I doubt Joe will see this but man I hope he does..I met Joe Montana several times as a kid during those dynasty years. I grew up in the projects walking distance (a good walk tho) from Candlestick. One of my favorite is we were down the Peninsula a bit at Fashion Island Mall in San Mateo / Foster City and Hoe was with Jennifer and my memory is they were looking at dogs - yeah they had pet stores in the mall back then..regardless he was just walking with his wife. He wasn’t walking around like the most f-ing popular man in the country but he wasn’t hiding either. People knew it was him but he wasn’t getting mauled like celebrities do now. I walked up to him and said “Hey, I don’t mean to bother you but you’re Joe Montana huh”? He looked at his wife and looked down at me and said “Yeah, I guess I am”. I’m sure my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. I said “I thought so because I’m a 49er fan. You’re the best QB ever and I watch all your games. Do you ever go to Dwight Clark’s restaurant”? (Clark had a restaurant called Clark’s By The Bay in Redwood Shores) and he said “Yes, we go there sometimes.”. I said “Ok, well maybe I’ll see you there because I go every year for my birthday” He said “Oh that’s nice-when is your birthday”. I said “February 23, 1977 😂 maybe I’ll see you there one day”. He said “maybe. Well if you see Dwight tell him I said hi and give me a call” .. that was it. I gave that message to Dwight but I think it was a couple years later..all those Niner greats were accesible to us kids in the Bay Area and f-ing cool as cool could be.

People just don't realize how harder football was and the level of ability these guys had to have to be able to do and accomplish what they did. What a duo!
I cannot wait for the Super Bowl!! Bang Bang Niner Gang!!
😆 🤣 😂
Jets vs 49ers Superbowl.
Great to see you out there Joe. You need to be a presence in modern football 🏈 your knowledge and insight is needed more today than ever. 👍🏻
I love everytime the camera cuts to the toxic table I can hear lighter😂
Love ya Pat! Gotta take some vitamins myself real quick😂
lol just now noticed that
I could just listen to Joe tell stories for hours. What a cool guy.
How did he not ask about Joe stopping that kidnapper!? That one of my favorite clips from the show
The GOAT, let's go 49ers. Thanks Pat McAfee show for this amazing interview
That's why his nickname was Joe Cool. 😎😎😎😎😎
Absolute GOAT. What a class act.
Here's Montana 🥇🥇🥇🥇
Here's Brady 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥈🥈🥈
Brady holds every playoff passing record in history and is a 5 time SB MVP.
Brady 4/5 of the top passing games in SB history/ Montana 0
Brady has thrown for +300 yards in the playoffs 18 times / Manning 2nd at 6 times
How's that for absolutes clown ?
This was excellent, never seen Joe so candid.
As a kid I never watched the NFL. I only watched Notre Dame games. Joe Montana is the reason I started watching the NFL when I followed him from Notre Dame. Have been a 49ers fan ever since.
Really enjoyed that interview. Thank you.
I watched this today and I instantly went back to the 80s dynasty run. Great memories and Joe will always be the Goat to me. Joe Cool
Totally awesome. Love Joe! My dad was his HS coach.
seeing joe and mj is like seeing a tiger in the wild, rare and always breathtaking 10/10 🏆
OMG that was awesome guys! I live in Kansas City and it was such a thrill seeing Joe in a Chiefs uniform! Classy guy!
Love Joe. Had the pleasure of meeting him and seeing him play in KC.
This Super Bowl is going to be awesome if the chiefs win man 3 chips for mahomes and company. And if my 9ers win Kyle finally got over the hump .
I feel in love with Joe Montana during his championship runs. What a joy he was to watch! We were so blessed to have him. Once Steve Young started playing, I kind of lost interest in the game until now.
Speaks to how good the Niners were, that anyone could lose interest with a QB like Steve Young.
Joe Cool :) Thanks for your time in KC!
💖💖💖💖💖 Joe Montana!!! The GOAT before THE GOAT!
Good job Pat. This is a great interview. I'm glad to hear Joe in such a humble and relaxed format.
Love this humble and terrific quarterback ... heck of a great man!
Joe. Your the GOAT. What a pleasure to listen to. I met you once in Milpitas, true gentleman, keep on keeping on. 👍🏻
There's still no one cooler than Joe.
Bring back Joe Montana football!
Sega went on to make NFL2k after they moved on from Joe Montanas sports talk football. Fans would call for 2k football to make a return before Sports talk football. Deep cut though.
Great to hear Joe talk about the mental demands of Walsh's Offense. A meathead would never have succeeded to the degree Joe did in that system.
Joe was the man
Joe Montana, the greatest QB to ever spin the ball in my book. Smart, tough, accurate, mobile and most of all clutch.
Awesome Joe Mo interview
I was 16 when super bowl 16 was played. Had a shirt that displayed "Roaring Back" 49 ers. Montana is my favorite Q.B. All time. Hope Brock can change my mind!!
Joe played with bruised ribs, wrapped up soo much you saw it through his jersey. The true 🐐
There’s NO trying to be “”cool “” it’s either you are or you’re not!! Millions of people aren’t cool but millions of people are the absolute coolest because they’re not trying to be cool 😎
What a great interview, one of the best I’ve heard from Joe. So interesting getting his feedback on Steve Young. Thanks for this!
One of the best interviews in sports. 🙏
My all time favorite QB don’t care if Brady is considered the goat. I would still want Joe with the game on the line. More relaxed and cool.
Outstanding great interview
AWESOME interview. Great one, Pat! Love Father Joe. 🤘
I love Joe and he is the real a goat
DUDE! Awesome interview ✌️😎
I realize this super bowl with these two teams should be called the Joe Montana invitational
I was a fan from that day on,
and NOT disappointed. Also, a little shout out to Mike Wilson, backup, 3rd or 4th WR........he'd been there for ya all those years. We don;t see or hear much from him, but he seemed like a great sportsman, great guy. Thank you all.
Barrry
My 5 year old's middle name is Montana because of this guy! Go Niners!!!
Joe the GOAT! He was like a cheat code in Tecmo Super Bowl. 100 percent completion to Rice every time 😂
Joe Cool. What a legend. Great interview!
Still a fan of the niners, but became a chiefs fan when Joe went there. 2nd time in four years it’s the best possible SB for me! Chiefs all the way for me because of that trade in the 90’s, but I just hope it’s a great game won on great plays and not the other teams mistakes.
The heart of the Midwest. Joe Cool. 😎
We love you Joe ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Walsh and Montana! Legendary!
Great conversation with Joe cool 😎
My favorite quarterback of all time. Thanks Joe for all the great games and memories. Salute to the best of all time.
Joe would’ve won more SB if they protected QBs back then like they do know.
As an Irish 49ers fan, I laughed at some of this but I would love to meet Joe
What an amazing interview very down to earth.
Best show on tv, podcast or however u watch it!! I been here watching Pat way before the blow up and I swear I love it!!!
Joe... is awesome!!
Pat˙s positive energy and love for the NFL makes this interview. Thank you a lot.
Joe is like fine wine and keeps getting better.
