  • You read that correctly, I bought a broken 2014 Ford SVT Shelby GT500 from Carvana. I'm in the middle of finding a resolution to the issues I've had thus far. But rest assured, the car is sticking around for years to come so I'm looking forward to bringing you guys more content once I get her back. Good times ahead! Also I changed the channel name to Texas Revving so there's that. The best days of this channel are ahead, stay tuned!

You read that correctly, I bought a 2014 Ford SVT Shelby GT500 Mustang that I found on Carvana. It didn't go as smooth as I hoped, in fact I'm in the middle of finding a resolution to the issues I've had thus far. I bought a 2013 boss 302 Laguna Seca…. It arrived on October 28th…. I was soooooo excited…. When the car arrived my smile quickly turned into a frown…. The site originally only pointed out a scuff on the trunk deck lid…. It looks showroom ready on their site….anyway…. Upon arrival…. The paint was ATTROCIOUS!…. Swirl marks all over the place…. The front bumper had a dent and deep scratches that someone filled in w a paint pen…. The right passenger side skirt had deep scratches and I assume the whole skirt will need repainting…. 3/4 wheels had curb rash…. I went to look at the tires hoping they were NoT the original tires from 2013….. they weren’t…. But they were some Walmart special tire called like tiger paw or something…. Ohhh and originally the car was delayed cus the roof was damaged in shipping…. So they repainted the roof and had dent taken out…. Anyway…. Driving the car was a different experience. Loved it…. Signed paper work…. Then I took car to my dads house for him to drive it…. After 15 min of driving it the CEL came on…. 6 different misfiring codes…. I started seeing the money pit is was gonna become…. Called Carvana and said I want to return the vehicle. They came 2 days later to get the car and it wouldn’t even start. It was a 2013 w 13,500 miles on it. But yea…. Like you said…. Hellen Keller must’ve inspected the vehicle. I was sad but still have my 14 modded GT mustang which I love. I was just THANKFUL I didn’t sell it before the boss came cus then I’d be very upset. Lol as soon as I get my deposit back imma leave Carvana a review. Customer service has been A+ at least.

I feel like Carvana doesn't do a great job evaluating their cars.
A 3,000 mile Z/28 had a fried clutch and wouldn't send appropriate power to the wheels.
Wonder if it's just a muscle car issue.

First time watching your channel, thank you for sharing this!
Less than 2 weeks ago, I purchase a 2016 Toyota Camry from Carvana and within 24 hours of having it, the car would not start. SilverRock had me take it to an NTB which took nearly 4 hours to change the battery... Once changed and the vehicle was home, I cranked it again only to hear an ungodly sound coming from underneath the hood.
I returned it thinking it was a clean car, but it obviously was not. To you and anyone reading this, DO NOT PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM CARVANA.

@@RaisinBalls Yea but have to look at in the sense that its not a cheaper product, most people only buy a couple cars in their lifetime, also Carvana has a history of not giving titles, dropping cars off their delivery trucks, and overall ripping people off by selling cars 10-15% higher than market value. You may have had a great experience and no hate on you for that but companies like Carvana are making the already awful car market worse due to people being lazy and not researching when it comes to purchasing a vehicle.

@@BossMan302 7 day test is not enough to test for neglected fluid abuse. If you ignore certain maintenance on a car, the engine and transmission could break after 7 days easy. If Carvana is going to sell premium price, they should provide premium service. I do like how Carvana works, and how people can kind of just get cars from anywhere at this point, but a person could provide a trashed car to Carvana easily and a 7 day test drive isn't going to show much.

I worked at Carvana about a year ago in the brake and tire department. They are very “cheap” when it comes to adding tires on a car that should need new ones but they don’t bc the mileage doesn’t warrant a set of tires. The whole company is very shady and i got out of there within 5 months. They love to hide issues and get you out of the 7 day warranty and then you’re on your own. Best of luck to you, just found your channel and am very impressed!!

I picked up my ‘14 GT500 Sterling Gray fully optioned with 1100 miles on it almost 8 years ago from the original owner. She’s now cracked 14,000 miles and has become more of a garage queen. Sometimes my reverse doesn’t like to go in as well. I put it in 3rd and open up the mesh. Clutch depressed fully then go for reverse. It goes in wonderfully without hesitation or delay. I thought I’d leave a comment and let you know you’re not alone! Welcome to the club!! SUBSCRIBED!! 😁

Crazy mark up on the 13-14 cars. I have an 08 as the 07-09 are my favorite body style. Bought it right before the craziness with 27K miles for $25k. It was a show car and everything looks perfect inside and out. Already tuned and smaller pulley to get it at 550 at the rear. :) Plan on doing a TVS swap to give the same power as the 13-14....just minus the aluminum block of course.

Good luck getting issues resolved. You have way more patience than me. I would have just returned it - and started over. Having said that - it’s an incredible car. After getting out of my GT350 I found a perfect ‘14 last year - loaded like yours with 2900 miles at a dealer 200 miles from home. Luckily they told me it was perfect - and it was. I find it to be more exciting than driving the GT350. I agree that the ‘13/‘14 GT500 has good potential to increase in value big time. In the meantime- enjoy yours - it’s beautiful

For the reverse gear issue, I would maybe look into an MGW short throw shifter. The factory shifter linkage is the Achilles heel of the 11-14 GT500s, and mainly effects the 1st to 2nd gear shift, but can have a negative effect on a lot of the aspects of shifting the TR6060 transmission. I put an MGW in my 2014, and it made a big difference in the way it shifts, and once I got it broken in, my 1st to 2nd gear shifting issues have gone away. Hope you figure it out!

To be honest I’m not quite sure, I’ve looked around and most people will just do the muffler delete and possibly an x-pipe. That’s typically all you’ll need to do to get it tastefully noisy but not obnoxious. And yes, 350 has original mufflers but no resonators.

This is what I am thinking. Looking at ALL of the spider webbing, that thing was poorly washed, probably a cheap mechanical car wash, just awful. A stray rock on an Interstate drive will do the damage here, especially if you are behind a Semi that veers on to the shoulder, it's all over, kiss perfection goodbye.
Tires at 7000 miles. Yeah, it was driven, and probably hard. I wasted a set of Goodyear GT+4's on a Sunbird GT Turbo in 7900 when I was 16 years old.

For such low mileage, the paint condition is horrid. That alone would make me think how well it was taken care of. I'm not sure I would have accepted that myself, unless the price was right. I'm picky...probably more than most. Too many red flags with this car especially paying a premium for it.
I hope you get everything sorted out and enjoy the ride. Congratulations 🎊

My point: if you are going to buy expensive rare cars bite the bullet and go with a real dealer. They can’t afford to sell less than correct cars - they would lose customers and cred.

I’m dealing with the same exact issue currently, brought the car to the shop had $3,200 worth of work done after 3 weeks of having the car and there is still several issues with the car. They offered for me to bring the car back to the shop and have it inspected again but I had paid the $50 fee for a shop to inspect it, Carvanna sent out their own inspector, approved for work done but now I have the vehicle back and there is still issues. I truthfully don’t have the money to afford not having a vehicle. They told me that I could pay for a rental vehicle for them to look at it a second time but I’m not sure what to do because I don’t have extra money to afford a rental car every day.
What happened in your overall situation and how do you think I should go about this??? If anyone could please give me advice I would appreciate it a lot because I’m lost with answers… thank you!

I recently bought a 2020 GT convert on Carvana it was an actual "partner" car which was a Hertz Sales ex rental. I got it for well below retail but the big issue upon delivery was the paint, it was very rough I could not believe in two years the paint could be in such rough shape. I called Carvana they did send in the vehicle for some repaint on almost half the car, but honestly just like you I fell in love with the car mechanically it was flawless Hertz took care of that end. I probably should have swapped it for another partner car but who knows the next one could have had mechanical issues.

The paint needed no correction and the interior was flawless. The engine bay and underside of the car was spotless. The car facts report showed yearly oil changes and inspections by Ford. They did me right …..I just purchased a 2012 VW GTI Autobahn edition…. I got the car, the push button start wasn’t working properly the driver told me before the car arrived he did a ASR on it (after sale repair )I also had to contact Silver Rock got them on the phone they waived the 50 fee because it’s not one of there preferred shops then Volkswagen of Laredo,Tx took care of contacting Silver Rock got the approval and I was back on the road… I also decided to keep my car it was extremely clean : ) I paid a premium for mine as well for what it is , but absolutely love the car !!!keep it brother they will fix the issues…Yes it is inconvenient as heck ,but you won’t regret keeping that car !! Gorgeous GT 500 13/14 only 2 years of the 662 HP God Bless Carroll Shelby !! And I think you are absolutely correct this car will only go up in value look at the Cobra Terminator 03/04 they are going crazy on the value now …Strange 03/04 -13/14 it’s going to be a collector for sure …

I bought a C7 Z06 M7, It was great besides it had this weird time where 1st gear popped out the 1st day I had it. I took it to a Chevy dealership, their tech was able to replicate the issue. Carvana/Silverrock paid 12k for a replacement. No hassle at all, I was extremely surprised at how smooth it all went. They also paid 2k for an AC compressor replacement. 1 year later and I am still loving the car. Going to do a full review video on the whole Carvana experience soon.

Seeing as ford changed the design leads me to believe the there was an underlying fault with the design in the s197.

Love all the detail in your vid :) Bottom line here, NEVER buy a used car without either viewing and inspecting it yourself, or hiring a good inspector. Would love to have heard you say that to your viewers. I did that once in my life, I'll never do it again. Kinda lousy how Carvana apparently puts everything off on their "3rd party warranty".

Surprised about the tires - they definitely put new ones on mine (got a GT in 2020). I actually don't mind Carvana (knock on wood) but the devil there is the detail on the warranty. This video is a little older but it's about the deductible and how that works. The prices were still rising then too on the used market - feels like premium is super subjective now. Having said all of that - I love your GT500! Beautiful car, and it looks like it went to the right owner!

I think yours just needs a fluid change. Go on the forums there may be a redline cocktail to help with that grinding. Maybe all those stone / rock chips came from the transport company... crazy to have that much damage on a low miles car. My buddy bought that exact car, same color, brand new off Neil Sandler's Ford on Airport Motor Mile in Knoxville Tennessee. Believe it or not,...with 2 weeks of driving and owning that car,...the same thing started happening. Grinding horribly going into reverse. Took it to the dealership. They obviously honored the warranty and took the car in. Had the car a week. Told him that was fixed. He went to pick it up and ask to talk to the tech that inspected and "repaired" the car. That tech said he simply adjusted the clutch and that all of those clutches get out of adjustment constantly under normal driving conditions. It requires adjustment about every 3000 miles he claimed. Under extreme driving conditions,..such as drag racing or track days,.....every 1000 to 1500 miles. 4 days later,...under normal driving conditions,....it started grinding again. So basically after many internet Forum discussions, trips to Ford dealership and talking to different techs,...he concluded that the transmission in those cars are extremely fickle and sensitive. The clutch is the weak link though. The tech at Ford advised him to go ahead and a guy an upgraded "stage 30"😆high performance clutch. Of course he was joking about the "stage 30" but he understood. So I don't know if any of this matters to you but I thought I'd share. Best of luck with your new purchase and I hope it all works out beautifully. It just a side note?? I whole heartedly believe these car will skyrocket in value over the next 10 to 15 years. Just my opinion.👍🇺🇸💪

Great to hear the news and hopefully the trans is only a minor issue. My 87 has done the same thing with reverse, it would grind unless I put it in first gear first. Changing the fluid helped, and adjusting the clutch cable a bit. Of course yours is not a cable. Supposedly putting it in first slows the gears down more letting reverse engage easier or something. When it started to grind into 5th, I got it rebuilt so everything in the rebuild kit was replaced and the grinding stopped. Love that Ruby Red on yours and on my 16 GT! It is one of Ford's best colors. Good luck with it!

I had kind of a similar situation when I bought my gt350 from carvana. They noted a couple rock chips and water spots, so I thought it was super clean. The day they were supposed to deliver it they called and said they couldn't get it to pass emissions. Fast forward 3 weeks and they had a Ford dealer replace the exhaust. So the day they deliver it I notice the splitter is all scraped up, the bumper has been repainted and has fisheyes if you look close, there's lots more rock chips than they disclosed, there's rock chips in on the windshield and there's a scratch that goes from the rear window to the trunk lid. The driver noted everything and said they'd get back to me. A few days later I get an email and talk to someone on the phone who says they are going to fix everything except the rock chips and the repainted bumper, they said those imperfections we're within carvana's limits for normal wear and tear.
I ended up taking it to their preferred body shop, they replaced the windshield and rear window, they upgraded the splitter to a gt350r one, and they fixed the scratch on the trunk.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the way carvana stood behind their product, but I wish they would have fixed all this stuff before it was delived.
