- My REVIEW and EXPERIENCE with Carvana. I financed / purchased a 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI S with no trade-in from them in July 2022. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Check engine light, epc light, warning light, High credit , high interest rates, pre order issues. etc.

Awesome review. I like your style. I will check out your other stuff for sure. Thanks 👍
thank you!
I would have sent it back straight off the truck for that misfire but nice car! I got a car from Carvana a couple years back and it was a pretty great experience. Still runs and drives great after about 40,000 miles.
I honestly though about it. I decided that, since I can’t find this spec car anywhere. I would try to have them warranty it and fix anything that was wrong . It looks like it worked out for us both!
Usually fresh coils will cure the misfire.
@@auxmike718 I’ve owned Volkswagen all my life and it’s usually coil packs, spark plugs or both
Can't wait to see what mods you have planned!
Full send coming soon
Thanks for the honest review. I am super skeptical of buying like this as there are things the dealer would glaze over that me as a car buyer wouldn't as I investigate on the test drive and looking over the car. Probably not something I would do, but it's nice to get an enthusiast's perspective on buying in this manner. Glad they took care of your issues, enjoy the GTI!
Honestly , you have a good point. However, carvana gives you 7 days to drive and live with the car. Go inspect it , go get it inspected by a dealer you trust. I got the car inspected for free at the dealership the day after I got the car. I found a few issues but they looked more closely. I ended up getting a good find. U can always return it within the 7 days. No biggie! I would have bought from a dealership . I bought my first car from one but now it’s tough to find a car I want from one. I love the GTI thank you!
@@MK6CHRIS Glad you got into the car you wanted! It has definitely become increasingly difficult to find fun cars (let alone any cars) at reasonable prices these days.
@@mulletsquirrel me too! It’s extremely challenging now a days. It’s a sellers market for sure !
This process seems better than a dealership that after the price has been established they then take you into a room to sell you warranty options on your used car from the dealership which cost at least a thousand dollars and goes up from there depending on what level of warranty you prefer. A local dealership was trying to get me to pay over $2,000 extra for a warranty I declined.
less hassle for sure
Bought a truck from Carvana and experience was great. They were about an hour late arriving but no biggie. The driver side window made squeeling noise when rolling down/up but went away that same day. Using them again for a trade in which will arrive this Saturday. Hopefully all goes smoothly!
Good luck! I also used them for a sale
Hey Scott how did the second one go?
Just got my car end of Dec 2022. Soo far car is amazing!! I am bringing it for a lookover at the dealership before the 90 day warranty is up. Better to be safe than sorry. If anything needs repairs have to catch it before the 90 day warranty is up. I'd rate my entire purchase experience a 8/10 !! Personally I do recommend carvana
glad u had a good time like me. Best of luck and enjoy!
Thanks for the info on your experience, where did you buy the scanning tool?
Glad to help! The scan tool is specifically for VAG cars, it's an " OBDII "
I feel you on your review. I got my car from caravana. Slight hiccups as well but nothing major & they fixed everything so I can’t complain! I had a good experience with them it’s been 9 months and the car has been good on me. *knocks on wood* and imma car guy to. Heavily modified her already
Good stuff! I’m really glad to hear that. It makes me hopefully. Surprised to see we had a similar experience. Enjoy the car!
@@MK6CHRIS I hate to say it but I feel like most people that got their cars from Carvana were just everyday drivers who aren’t really into cars like that and did poor inspections and etc. we aren’t letting that fly though! And they noticed everything too late of course so not much they could do
@@FlossyZach that’s how they get people. A person who doesn’t know any better would freak out or simply let it slide. Us on the other hand, know what to look for and a proper low mile , clean car facts car is normally solid
@@MK6CHRIS exactly so I’m regards to Carvana I’m a fan personally it was super easy. Of course I wouldn’t like them though if I had a bad experience like most people but we are fortunate then I suppose! Good video man
It's funny that Carvana seems to be the focus and the only car selling company I see negative articles on when used cars are at an all time high in resale value and supposedly hard to get but Carvana is the only company tanking with an overwhelming stock of vehicles. Looks to me like it's more the rest of the car selling industry wants them out of the way because the program seems to work for customers and they removed the dealership painful and scummy experience for the customer. I can tell you first hand i live my experience buying from Carvana regardless of the countless negative videos I've seen on UA-cam and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or buy from them again. I don't ever want to go to another dealership ever again.
I was happy with my overall experience. It was no where near perfect but I am happy
@@MK6CHRIS there's always hang ups somewhere but the experience was so fast that I had to go back and double check that I had purchased and traded a car so quickly
I got the same GTI from carvana a month ago. Love it so much.
So hassle free to get it as well.
Only problem so far is the near $7 a gallon for gas in California right now.
You gotta get out of there asap . Gas cheaper here
i just ordered a 2015 subaru brz and i’m currently waiting on it it comes sunday august 28th and i’m excited but this is what i’ve been hearing that it could come wrong but carvana is pretty good about fixing something
Yeah they are great when it comes to the warranty process. Quick and efficient. I would recommend you get the card oil changed at a dealership so they can give it an inspection and tell you what’s wrong. Don’t get the work done there tho. Carvana is hit or miss. Enjoy the car , lmk how it goes!
I looked at their prices and they're not any cheaper that the certified used cars from traditional dealerships that come with a much longer warranty.
Depends on the car tbh. Some cars on here have 10k mark ups like dealers. Some don’t. Mine didn’t. The plus side is, they have a lot more selection . I couldn’t find a 2dr red manual GTI in any local dealership within a reasonable distance. The warranty aspect is hit or miss too
You must've really wanted this car for you to keep it when it came straight off the truck with a misfire.
This video definitely taught me to keep emotions in check when buying a used car because I work way too hard for my money
You are right, I really wanted this spec GTI. So I was willing to give them the 7 days to get it fixed or fix it myself. 7 day return policy with a warranty fixes a lot of headaches. I know a lot about cars so I know that a misfire is normally something simple
@@MK6CHRIS your video was real informative so thank you for putting up your experience even though it wasn't entirely a positive one. As I said it taught me to keep my emotions in check as I know when it's my turn I'll be really excited too but being burned like this would hurt. I know where you're coming from and appreciate the reply too!

Good video. What was the fix for the misfire?
They replaced the coil pack for free
Here over in the UK we have a company called Cazoo and they're quite similar. Quite a lot of their cars have been previously repaired or damaged cars with issues, especially golfs. Also why I'd rather physically see a car before buying
That’s very common here too. I’d rather see a car in person but the availability is limited and the dealer fees have gone up 100x
@@MK6CHRIS definitely. The mk7 prices are stupid high over here still. I've put 40k miles on my R-line over 2 and a half years and probably get close to what I paid for it if I sold it
Did you have to show any documents in person or just online? I know the website says that the delivery is contactless.
had to show my drivers license and insurance
my delivery has already been pushed back 2x. Waited 3 hours past my delivery window today to finally get a call from someone telling me they couldn't get a driver to deliver my car. Delivery is now pushed to tomorrow morning.
Wow did u ever get it? I never had that issue
I purchased a dodge ram 1500 a couple days ago and plan on picking it up in a week. Everything for me was straight forward from paperwork to financing and I’m choosing to pick it up myself. I figure it’s worth the chance with the 7 day warranty as I plan to take my truck straight to a mechanic as soon as I get it. The reason I’m using carvanna is because I’m from West Virginia and the selection at used car dealership is minimal. The APR on these vehicles are high but considering they do the financing and I have a window to return my vehicle I’ll continue with my purchase. I’ll let you know how my experience goes
Also another reason I purchased is because carvanna allows you to use the vehicle vin on car fax to see previous owners wrecks repairs etc.
Those are the main reason I purchased from them as well. I had plenty of time to inspect the car. I ended up keeping mine. I love it ! good luck to u
Hey im getting the same car from them soon. How did it go? Whats your instagram

Did that error appear in the dashboard (check engine light) or was it hidden with the obd?
It appeared!
Still better than dealing with scummy dealerships. Glad you got your issue sorted in the end.
Me too!
Hello! I was wondering what tool you were using @ 1:36?
OBDEVELEN specifically for VAG cars
I enjoyed your review. If I buy a car from Carvana, after I take delivery, I will either pay to have a dealer provide an assessment or pay Lemon Squad or some similar car reviewer to document every little thing wrong with it (including a body shop). Then I will start the warranty process. I plan to buy an extended warranty from Allstate because I have researched warranties and there warranties are the best. Not the cheapest but the best. There were initially lots of Carvana haters because they turned the dealer business upside down! (good for Carvana). Now any little error and they are the targets of the media. There isn't a car dealer in the country that hasn't had many complaints against them about cars they sell. What device did you use to self diagnose the problem with your phone?
Good plan! The day after I took delivery I brought it to my friend who is a service manager at vw and they looked it over. Changed the oil while they were at it. I had some warranty work done too. So it all checks out! For VAG cars , you can use an “ OBDII scanner “ to read codes and code on/off things ! Thanks for the input
sounds like an enormous waste of time just to use a "convenient" car buying service..
Quite the contrary. I think Carvana sent chills through the dealer community when they first opened. They re-wrote the options consumers have at time of sale with wider and deeper consumer-friendly offerings than almost any other companies. Like online 360 degree looks, convenient delivery, fantastic financing and supplemental offerings like GAP coverage and many other useful tools (all without pesky pressure salesmen to twist your arm). You can trade in your car and get a great price. You can shop over 25,000 cars and call dibs so you won't lose the car you like. You get seven days to try the car out, drive it, have a mechanic check it out and even return it for full refund if you don't like it. If you need a repair either mechanically or body work they have a zero deductible and I don't know of any other dealers that guarantee body work after a sale. They have great fair priced extended warranties and a 100 day warranty comes with each car. That's a pretty fantastic offering.
@@systemkill90 I couldn’t find the car I wanted at any dealership in my state so I had no choice . They had a nice selection
How was your experience getting your tags? I have heard they take to long

Interesting , I bought from them because I couldn’t find this specific spec car at any dealership in my state . The buying process was super easy tho. A lot quicker and easier than when I bought my first car at a vw dealer
Did you have any issues with registration and getting your plates?
nope ! They registered it for me before it arrived and the plates came via fedex next day air!
What was the scanning tool that you have ?
just a hand held OBDII
I know what people say about financing a vehicle etc. but I just look at it as another bill .. I recently got rid of a cable bill so I have some extra $ .. I live in Philadelphia so buying a car off the street has the same risk as tongue kissing a homeless person .. is caravans worth it ? Like I don’t mind a check engine light.. has anyone got a car from caravana that had issues like transmission.. or engine knocking . Overheating ? or any major engine issues ? Anything small I can live with .. the cars are used right ?
I can definitely get behind this statement. Small things can be warrantied and fixed
The Carvanacare extended warranty isn't cheap either it's cost me $2.4k for 5 years and my car still has manufacturer warranty.
u can just skip that and take advantage of their standard warranty

So far so good! No issues after the initial warranty claim. Definitely take full advantage of that

drivers license and proof of insurance
Bought a 2015 wrx that was stated “completely stock” long story short the car arrives at my house I check it out has Cobb intake and aftermarket exhaust which is a big no no to a stock engine with no tune the only good thing I’ll say is they give you 7 days full money back guarantee which they honored
Glad to hear they honored their word. I did take advantage of the warranty and 7 day return policy. I decided to get everything fixed . Running strong
I bought my 2021 Toyota Camry through Carmax a little over a year ago with 7K on the Odometer. I've had an awesome experience with them & so far it hasn't had any issues.
Awesome! Enjoy it !
I would refuse to accept the car after finding out about the misfire. Modern Ecu will automatically adjust to whatever octane is put in even if the car requires 91.
It will adjust be a computer can only pull so much “ timing “ to compensate. It ended up being one coil pack which is covered under warranty. No biggie. I got lucky I suppose
How long did it take you to receive your title
I got a certified copy the same day
Why did you wait until the 7th day to file a warranty claim or even keep the car?
If I got a car and felt that immediately I wouldn’t of signed anything, would of either requested it be fixed prior to accepting it or sought another car from them ( same make and model )
A few reasons, first was it seemed to be okay or maybe an old issue. After having it inspected within 12 hours of ownership I got the thumbs up from a vw dealer. I had it warrantied as soon as I was sure this was an issue that needed to be fixed. I couldn't find the same spec car I was looking for. There were only 2 listed for sale in a 6 month period of looking . I was picky. I could have been quicker with warranty. Looking back, I don't regret a thing . This car has been so good to me.
I can't recommend Carvana due to the high interest rate. (even if you have good credit.) Have gotten two cars from them. Sold one and refinanced the other which is my daily
I can agree with that. I had the same experience and mentioned it in this video. I have incredible credit but they offer everyone a very similar yet high rate
Bridgecrest is the lien holder not carvana
You’re a very generous grader imo. You received a car that broke down in < 7 days, missing details about the exterior, a flat spare tire, and a loose passenger. i think on a lot of people’s scales this ends up as an F rather than a B-
Fair observation. Perhaps I gave the grade because I am a little more mechanically inclined than most and understand the issues that were presented to me were minor and covered by warranty. It’s a used car after all from 2015
Good luck getting it titled and registration
both are done.
@@MK6CHRIS how long did it take ? The fact that they didn’t give a hard plate or title to you upon delivery Is sketchy

Remember it’s a used car there’s gonna be hiccups that’s why you buy extended warranty all my used cars that I have bought. I buy the max extended warranty. I’m playing devils advocate here even if you buy from a name brand dealership like Honda or Toyota are used car you could still have issues down the line.

@@MK6CHRIS Did they ever give you a permanent one? Just came from a video of a guy who had to go to his state's Attorney General, BBB, and the DOT just to get Carvana to give him back his money in exchange for the car because his temporary title expired, and they couldn't provide the permanent one because they didn't actually have it. I've been thinking about buying a car from them but you're one of the few 'success' stories, just wondering if that bit worked out as I might pull the trigger on buying if you ended up getting the permanent title

lol it wasn't so bad
I think that company is sketchy. Also so unnerving about buying a car online without having the ability to inspect it and drive it before you buy it. Glad everything worked out for you, but I think Carvana should of done better. Come on Carvana a "check engine light" a misfiring engine, how could the people that inspect your cars miss that?
That’s a common feeling amongst many people. Fortunately they give you signed documents that say you can return it within 7 days for any reason. They encourage you to inspect it and take it places . To be fair the issue did come up until after I got the car off the truck a day later so maybe they didn’t notice it. I do see what you mean tho. Still a bad experience.

Technology has made everything anti social, you need to go look at the car and have it inspected by a mechanic before you buy it, you need to look the person in the eye that you're buying the car from and ask them if there's anything wrong with the car. If I'm selling a car on the internet to someone I've never met, I do not give a fuck if there's anything wrong with the car theyre face less. I can sell them an absolute piece of shit and I'll never have to see them or deal with them.
You say this but try to find me a 2door manual 7th gen GTI. You ASSUME I wasn’t looking at dealers. No dealer in my state had one for many months. I bought my first car from a dealer. Carvana gives u 7 days to live with the car AND get it inspected. Better than any dealership .
This is such a toxic comment that I see on every Carvana video. You could do like the bare minimum before commenting useless dribble like perhaps watching the first few minutes to hear about the 7 day return policy or, I don’t know, go to the website and see the return policy yourself. The risk with purchasing online is that you get something messed up, so knowing that and being a responsible adult you should know beforehand that you will need to have it looked at during your 7 day return window and return it if something is wrong. That’s exactly what this guy did (have it looked at). Did you watch the video? Furthermore you’re just as likely, if not more likely, to get trash from a dealership and assume everything is good because the dealership did a great job of hiding problems. Used car dealerships in particular are filled with snakes that spend their lives conning people into buying garbage it’s no different than anywhere else online or not.
