The skinner take is a bone head one. Are you actually delusional? He’s 25 this year. He went to the cup final as a 24 year old. Goalies usually don’t peak till 26-28. He single handedly won games last playoffs against LA 1-0 oil, then the series clincher against Dallas where oilers got outshot 13-2 in the 3rd period. The guy gets better as the games get bigger. Even against Vancouver he played poorly until game 6-7 and then he was lights out when it counted.

I think Skinner definitely has the potential to become a really great goalie but he needs more experience. I have a feeling he’s gonna get better the more he plays.
i think the oilers got better ( a little ) over the off-season. adding skinner ( jeff ) to the offense and arvidsson is ( hopefully ) really gonna help this team. Though our right side on defense is a little bit concerning, i hope we can add a right shot d-man to our ranks this upcoming year. that being said, the oilers have a LOT of pressure on them right now to win the cup this year, and i think McDavid will give his all to this season, which means he will hopefully have a insane (160+ points ) season and if the rest of this team can perform, we may have another deep playoff run this year. ( also i really don't care how many regular season games we win, as long as we make the playoffs and win 16 games, im happy. )
Skinner didn’t get the full season as the starter last year, recall we started Campbell game one of the season and gave him lots of chances to be the starter. I’m interested to see a full season with Stu as the starter.
Nice to see ya, took from the last whistle of the SCF until last night away from this team.... Frustration. I'm with ya man. The concerns I had at the end of the session were tending and defense.... Neither of which were improved upon. What I saw during the summer was Leon getting paid more than I thought he was worth (he floats way too much), the loss of future skill in Broberg, a hit to the team speed and the acquisition of a couple older guys. Being older myself, I know that can at least be beneficial but dropping speed, which the team is known for and not improving the backend, I'm not sure the distance they'll go. 2 6-1 preseason losses is telling, regardless of who was dressed then last night barely squeaking one out, I can only hope they at least start the season better than last year. I'll try and revisit this after the break and see how much hate came my way since.
I agree that we broberg was a loss but at the same time we haven’t seen much. I would have liked to keep him but the 4 mil was an over pay and broberg wanted out. All we can hope for is for stecher and emberson to play well enough. I hope they can find another D man in the future. But let’s see how they play cause again before coffee came in we weren’t really moving the puck with the D and coffee as made a big change in making the D move the puck fast and effective. So I think will be okay for now and build on it during the year to be better for the playoffs.
I think Ty Emberson will surprise the Oilers fans, and there not changing the blue line.. amd with the goaltenders don't really need to worry, Stu did his job and another experience that he has under his belt, and as long he's 900 900+ goaltender he's the guy that can, and now this is the opportunity to show the team that they can rely on him and Pickard
Hows this for a hot take...if you think hes the 15th best starting goalie in the league that also means you think hes a bonafide starting goalie. You already said that over half the league has a worse goalie starting in thier net on any given day.
Maybe Stuart Skinner is in the mould of Gerry Cheevers and Billy Smith - a "money goalie". I'm stillbreeling from the loss of McLeod and Holloway. On paper the Oilers may be better but that doesn't take into consideration the team chemistry and dynamics. Edmonton needs tough and intense winger and centre.

Oilers are going to be worse. Too many career highs on a team. I expect players like brouchard hymann draistl skinner to regress. I don’t buy the hype they had a pretty soft run to the cup last year.
Bouchard and Hyman maybe, but Skinner and Draisaitl? Skinner is a young relatively inexperienced goalie, he's going to get better every year. And Draisaitl just a had "down" year with 106 points, there's no reason to worry over him.
