This is a story recap video for my new Long War 2 campaign here at Charlie. Episode 00 allows people who have never been introduced to XCOM to be familiar enough with the story to know what has happened up until the start of XCOM 2. It doesn't discuss combat/gameplay. It only focuses on what a viewer would need to know to be caught up with XCOM for watching the Long War 2 series.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, for people who are not familiar with XCOM, to ALSO watch two more videos I have on the channel - which feature the tutorial missions for XCOM 2. I recorded these well over a year ago, when this game was first released. These tutorial missions are not as action packed, BUT, they will show you the basics of the gameplay, and more to the point of why I recommend watching them, they also include key story elements that are NOT featured in the official Episode 1 of the series on my channel - because the Long War 2 mod to overhaul the game, turns off the possibility of playing the tutorial missions.
SO... if you've never been introduced to XCOM before and that's why you're watching this, you'll get the most informative look at everything by watching Episode 00 (this video), then XCOM 2 Tutorial Missions part 1 and then part 2. After that, THEN come and watch Episode 1 of the official series playlist. That will give you the best "experience" in terms of the story itself. Below are the links to those, in order:

there's this great theory that EU happens til the point XCOM's base is attacked, and then the Commander is captured and placed in a simulation of some sorts, aiding the Elders against XCOM remnants (EXALT) during Enemy Within, and the result of that is XCOM2. Which explains why it seems you won XCOM but start XCOM2 defeated.
I love this theory.
It's always bothered me that you "win" in Xcom, but then the aliens have taken over in the beginning of Xcom 2

I beat the second one and then went back and played the first, and now I'm replaying them all on Ironman and harder difficulties... Are you really so much of an elitist that that actually matters to you how someone else chooses to play?

... I mean I'd have been sad if they'd said sorry too many people won XCOM, no xcom 2! lol
... aside, before the x-remakes, one of my favorite x-liked was the ufo: after series, which also did the ' game two explores what if you'd Not won the first game'.
anyway whatever clever for you, but if you didn't win first chance, I figure no right to complain..the universe isn't about second chances or save-scumming. you lost.

I just said it bothered me that, from a story perspective, we beat the aliens in the first, and somehow they were in control in the second. But finding this theory helps give more clarity to the story, so I was appreciating that.
Maybe I am misreading/misinterpreting (thanks, internet communication), but I'm struggling to find the issue here

Yea, it was my reality that failed to win the war in Xcom1 - I just couldn't get past the underwater base and finally gave up. Sorry chaps! Just started X2 and needed a refresher, brought back some glorious memories :) Thanks!

Was the "Methods" in 6:10 a reference to something by any chance?
Well right here, in the south, the Incas had to wait "some" years until they can be independent. And that was possible just by using their own weapons(Spain) , so this is very similar no?
I think that the base raid happens only if you capture the alien commander, in my playthrough I killed him since I couldn’t get my stun troop to live.
Is this the very beginning to the lp of xcom 2?
isn't the canon ending that you fail the base defense mission?
it's old enough that it's not a spoiler imo, but XCOM 2 basically explains thru a retconn how XCOM1 was lost - the commander was kidnapped and used as a living computer to run simulated battles.

My game won't load anymore after enjoying it for a short time. No idea why, but here I am because I can't play it and hoping the 2nd game works
lol took like 4months to beat xcom enemy unknown to win the war just t! ;o know that xcom never did win and lost and that I have to listen to a creepy black haired sunglasses guy sitting on TV saying that xcom lost (although we WON!!!!!) Love it ;)

How strange, in my session, I've never gotten my HQ attacked before.
Is that based on the difficulty settings?
Avenger gets attacked in every campaign. I’m unsure if you had mods or something, or perhaps you’re LW and they move altered the encounter for you there, but in a vanilla campaign, it’s a scripted event.

I wouldn't be surprised if my old computer managed to break the script.
Perhaps I'll give it another try and see if I encounter those events, since I've come to learn recently that I haven't had most of these events at all. 👀
@@MrGermandeutsch The XCOM base defense is only part of the Enemy Within DLC. If you just have the base game w/o DLC you won't have a base defense mission.
