    The Chosen being the three rescuee from Progeny would undeniably be genius continuity-wise.

      Then again, the game has continuity hiccups already, for example, the Temple Ship is nowhere to be found :D Unless the base underwater in the final mission of Xcom2 IS actually the Temple Ship.
      Also, what are the odds of us learning Vahlen's fate in this expansion :D

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому +25

      +Volthoom the Temple Ship looks insanely much like the ship at the end of Terror of the Deep, and that ship was the underwater base... I think :) regarding Vahlen, hopefully we will get some more hints - I have a theory that she may still be alive...

      +L0gicWülf Schulman yes, but do we know his real name when he was a human? I still feel they could very well be the Furies of old... There are no corpses in the furies location when you find their holding pods.

    They were human
    The warlock said something in the lines of "to think I used to be human like you, pitiful unworthy creatures"
    Which blew me away and pretty much confirmed it

    In the XCOM 2 Factions comic, it's confirmed that the Hunter used to be a Reaper. He was captured, mind-probed, modified and turned into whatever he is now, a charming motherfucker that snipes through the map.

    • @kryskiller666
      @kryskiller666 4 роки тому +9

      @Federico Guelfo Fan-fiction? It's licensed and published by the creators of XCOM 2, it would be stated somewhere if it WASN'T canon. However, type "is XCOM 2 Factions canon" on Google and you won't find shit.
      It's not even the only book about Xcom, and I doubt they're all non-canon.

    • @niveknaylik531
      @niveknaylik531 3 роки тому +10

      @@kryskiller666 Also, there is "logs" in the XCOM 2 game, in the commander quarter, you have some lore. And you unlock some of them when you complete missions (like genetic data and all, the name of the retrieved files in the mission strangely stay the same) and when you read it, you get some infos on the Hunter. In the game, it's confirmed he is a former Reaper indeed. And being in the game, it's 100% canon.

    In the mission against the Warlock's stronghold, one of the possible lines he can say actually suggests that he used to be a human. I don't remember the exact quote but it's something like, "I can't believe I used to consider myself as one of you."

    Before the War of the Chosen DLC, when you find the Furies scanning site, the bodies are still there (you / the investigation team triggers the execution trap, or whatever)
    If it's been changed, then chances are you're dead right about the chosen being the furies.

  • @Zoey--
    @Zoey-- 7 років тому +63

    I honestly hadn't considered the furies in the Xcom2 timeline. I'd say you're 100% onto something and these soldiers are more than likely the three furies with the story reworked to fit the idea of the Chosen. This would explain how psionically gifted the chosen are and my suspicion is these three candidates would have been the perfect avatar prototypes. After all you don't start a project as immense and globe spanning as the avatar project without first running viability tests! The furies being the template for the future avatar project would to me be an insanely awesome tie in with lore from the last game.

      Magaera and Tisiphone were the (implied) siblings in Enemy Within, and the Hunter explicitly refers to the Assassin as "sister" in the trailer? It's possible. They're certainly more physically similar to each other than they are to the Warlock.

    well i recently read through the chosen files. and found some interesting stuff. for one. the warlock is the oldest of the three and was apparently raised and experimented on from a young age. never stated how young though so he might have been one of the furies. the hunter is possibly a former reaper operative. captured and brainwashed into the service of the elders. and the assassin? she's a flash clone who was turned chosen.

  • @sampy901

    The chosen are modified humans. One of their lines of dialouge is something like "I remember when I was human" or "when I was still human blah blah blah"

  • @Siriathion
    @Siriathion 3 роки тому +1

    In the cutscene after the first Chosen is killed, the Elders say that the Chosen have "Succumbed to the failings of their humanity." Along with the lines that the warlock says during the assault on his hideout, where he pretty much admits to having been human once, I think it's pretty definite, that the Chosen were once human.
    Them being the Furies is a bit more of a stretch, but I can see the evidence and it is indeed compelling. You very well might be right!

    If the Chosen are identical to the Furies is undetermined (but an interesting and fascinating theory). What can be said is that there are strong hints that they actually _are_ mutated/changed humans! During the assault of its base, the Warlock states -"To think that I once counted myself among your race. You seem so pathetically primitive now" [might not have been verbatim but close enough], strongly suggesting that he was human once! (And if he was, the others probably are as well.)

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  6 років тому

      +Paul Reinerfelt Thank you for the kind and sensible words! I really wanted this theory to be true, despite the Hunter formerly being a reaper and the Warlock was taken as a child, I like my idea better... The Chosen were each picked from their "sects", and crafted into the Chosen. The Hunter, specifically, was a Reaper that was taken captive on a mission, and then crafted into the Chosen Hunter, in order to take out the Reapers. The Warlock was a Templar, and the Assassin was a Skirmisher. There's a comic book about it.

    • @GamekNightPlays

      +Garin Jones yeah, and some theorize about it being the commander :)

    • @darkinnovator2479
      @darkinnovator2479 6 років тому

      Ha, they could have moved on to a new test subject. Or they intended for there to be five, the Commander being the Fifth and their leader. Entirely possible that subject no. 4 is out there, just independent and a powerful wild one.
      A good choice for the Fourth One, would be the psionic character, "The Volunteer", who activated the Gallop Chamber in XCOM1. The character, after all, disappeared after blowing up the Temple Ship. It could have been this character, or the would-be "Volunteer", captured when the base fell.
      I see the Chosen as not a failed version of Project Avatar, but a success, as in they are the success in building a body for the Elders but a failure in that their will is far too strong in which the Elders could come to inhabit their bodies. Hence, in respect to that, the Elders consider them their "children".

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  6 років тому +1

      Garin Jones yeah, that could be - my other theory has him/her as the Commander in XCOM 2 though :D

Because I think the Commander is the supposed to be the fourth chosen but was rescued by xcom and they are willing to use any means necessary to retrieve the commander. And at some point in the game the hunter will say "I gave up my humanity for this..." so I guess they might be willing or something? Idunno. That's just what I think

    I think that when Commander was captured, the Ethereals made copies of his conscience/cloned him if he were an Ethereal. The consciences/clones were paired/merged with a manufactured "super human". Each conscience/clone was unique: one was psionically gifted and acted like the boss, this became the Warlock; one was angry and rebellious, this became the Hunter; and one was loyal and clear-thinking, this became the Assassin

    You know, I think you might be on to something. I think that the class correlation could be a bit more than a coincidence. I mean, the Sniper and Hunter are both known for their sniper rifles, the Assault uses shotguns and was succeeded by the Ranger which also uses swords and other melee weapons like the Assassin and since I don't think the aliens would be too keen on any sort of support class (just count all of their units that focus primarily on support) that would leave the person who would later be referred to as the Warlock to focus on their psionic potential. I'm so convinced by this that unless directly told otherwise I'm going to say this is the case

    What I always imagined, is that the Chosen are not chosen by the Ethereals, but they themselves made a choice.
    Members of a race so powerful and violent the Ethereals never could subdue, but who were destroyed so no one could oppose the Ethereals. The Chosen are simply powerful members who chose to join the Ethereals for their own reasons before the choice of annihilation was made. They wanted power, and did not care of their people, so they do not complain.
    There may be others, but these three are also chosen, once Earth is fully taken, one of them is allowed to rule Earth, if they succeed. But only the strongest may do so, and they have to survive battles, and in the end, kill each others.
    Obviously not supported by the clues given by the game, but I liked my version a lot too.

    Interesting theory which makes a lot of sense. Except one flaw...at 2:47 Warlock says "They called upon us ONCE MORE". Since they haven't been in a battle over the Earth before, it must mean that they fought a war somewhere else, presumably on one of the planets Elders conquered before arriving to the Earth. If that so, Chosen are made from one of the other races, not human.

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  6 років тому

      Apparently the Chosen were Humans, used in the takeover of Earth when XCOM fell.

    besides the chosen warlock dropping alot of hints to them once being human, there is also (Spoiler) when one of them dies and gets mourned at the elders, the ethereal gets angry, saying the interesting line "you have succumbed to the failings of your humanity, you squander our gift to you" with another interesting line "what was given can be taken away" implying the ethereals might've been able to turn the chosen back into weak humans, taking away all their powers

    One extra thing to keep in mind -- all three are guaranteed to have great psionic potential once you have the psi lab, pretty much locking in the Support as a likely warlock of sorts. Your theory seems overwhelmingly likely to be true to me because the Chosen fit the male-male-female setup. And as you said, their classes fit closely. One more thing to keep in mind is that XCOM 2 did actively choose to draw attention to the Furies. It would've been no big deal if there was no scannable event giving some foreshadowing or closure. After all, we don't find out what happens to Zhang or other loose ends, but they chose to keep the Furies in our minds still. If it pans out this way, it will definitely make going back to play EW very interesting if you recruit this trio.

    Unfortunately I don't think they are three mutated humans. If you watch the whole cutscene the warlock states the ethereals need them "again" meaning they have been used before. That is revealed to have been the capture of the X-com commander during the base assault (the ethereal states that was their job and they succeeded).This means they were around since the start of the initial invasion they just didn't need to reveal themselves. Bear in mind that although the genetic manipulation of the ethereals might be advanced I doubt they could have done it in a few months (which is how long it took for X-com to fall initially).

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому +1

      +Jan-Christophe Janousek the Elder never states that it was the base defence, in fact, she says their task was to subjugate the population of Earth, which very well could be the mutated progeny. Unless you have footage that I haven't seen?

    I had the same idea about them being the three people from Progeny a couple of days ago. It certainly fits, however i'm not so sure about the personalities lining up.
    The Assassin seems to be angry all the time, so she would match closer with Alecto. beyond that though, I can't really tell. She doesn't seem to have an opinion on the Elders like her brothers, but on a livestream either Jake Solomon or Garth DeAngelis mentioned that she was very honorable (which is ironic considering she's an ASSASSIN.) The Warlock and Hunter don't strike me as fitting into any of the three personalities described. The Warlock is definitely not jealous, nor does he seem angry, until the Elder's power is questioned. The most noticeable things about him are his loyalty and his arrogance. He believes the Elders are Gods, and so he considers himself a God as well, as they call him and his siblings their Children. The Hunter, on the other hand, seems rebellious. He's the first to make a threat against his siblings, and when the Warlock attempts to pacify the situation he fires back with a quip about the Elders, knowing it would make his brother angry. He then has the balls to outright disrespect the Elder TO HER FACE (in a hologram, but still, her face). Maybe he hates them all for some reason, maybe he just knows they won't kill him after all the effort he went through to create him, or maybe hes just an asshole.
    Their personalities don't really line up with the Furies as you described, however I do believe that if they aren't the genetically modified Furies from EW, then the Furies were at least a part of the process to making the Chosen as they are today.

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому +2

      Funny thing about the Warlock, I don't think he is jealous of his siblings, but of the Elders - he knows not to question them to their face, but he does state at one point that he is/will be stronger than his masters.
      I think his jealousy lies there.
      Relentless destruction does fit the assassin I feel, she may be honorsble, but not towards her masters enemies... Nor does she fight fair (invisibility isn't really fair)
      The hunter seems angry, with everyone, his siblings he wants to kill, 'it would be so easy' to kill her!
      He seems mad at the Elders and because of it he becomes disobedient..
      I feel the personalities fit just fine, but I also see hour points :)

    The Vipers/snakemen joined with the Ethereals willingly as well, so there is precedent for aliens joining the Ethereals willingly.
    II think the Vipers/Snakemen surrendered very quickly when the Ethereals arrived. That, coupled with their lack of psionic power, led to the Ethereals listing them as a failed race and moving on again. Its why the Vipers/Snakemen were unsuitable.

      I just really wish they had taken the three I thought they stemmed from - instead of three random humans :P Can't have it all :P

    You forgot a scene when you permanently kill one of the Chosen, there is a cutscene where the Elder's say 'YOU HAVE SUCCUMBED TO THE FAILINGS OF YOUR HUMANITY'. Keyword being 'your'. To me, that is solid evidence that the Chosen were once human, otherwise, why would they say that? If they were an alien race, then they wouldn't have any human DNA within them. I suggest giving those cutscenes a watch, lot's of lore in those cutscenes.

    So if this is all true... what happened to Annette? She's literally the only reason the base assault was even possible

      +Kepler 68 yeah, I would like to know as well... In my Theory the first couple of missions would have been successful, so Annette would have been saved.. I was hop7ng she was actually Geist, it woulf have made sense..
      Instead they chose to go with someone new 'one of the first Psionically gifted' :(

    you seriously might be onto something it could be very possible however they aren't avatar failures i think they were created to handle as hand of the elders as they muscle degeneration got worse they needed some loyal leaders that aren't humans but are powerful and wise enough to control the earth and it's population as they said themselves that they're mission has been to crush any resistance of all who would oppose them

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому +2

      +Alone Wolf indeed - the Assassin also states that she is the true heir of Earth...which seems a bit odd, as a true heir would have to be... Human.. No?

      Game kNight yup damm i really hope it's true because then we would seriously get why they are so dangerous but i wonder what kinda thing made them look like that is it human dna mixed in with some elder dna and some other race or something else hmm

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому

      +Alone Wolf the Elder days that they possess their wisdom and will, so I figure it is Elder dna they are fused with. I hope it is true aswell, as that would add a totally new layer to the lore.

    When were you planning on doing the playthrough? Cuz I could make quite a few characters with decent backstories. Is there a limit to how many characters we can create?

    • @GamekNightPlays
      @GamekNightPlays  7 років тому

      +MrRodger07 starting recording on the 28th, and any bin file characters will be added right away for the current playthrough. I'm limiting it at 2 pr. Person :)

      @MrRodger07 7 років тому

      Thanks, was wanting to know. And I already made my two then. Hopefully you pick them. They are a ranger/sharpshooter husband/wife team. Or at least that is what they hopefully become since I did not know how to do the whole bin file thing. I play on computers I don't know how they work , that is my defense and I am sticking to it.

      +MrRodger07 that is so cool :) I'll start creating some of the submitted characters this weekend :) The roster is filling up :)
      Maybe I should do a quick guide to exporting characters? It makes you guyd able to get the exact look you are going for, and makes my life easier :D

    • @MrRodger07
      @MrRodger07 7 років тому

      Yeah, that would be fantastic, then with your permission I could resubmit my duo. I have both of them wearing Halo armor though because it looks so freaking cool and makes both of them look so badass. And then you can redo their backstory with the one I supplied when I first submitted them. Which would make them that much cooler.

    Mh... it's a very likely possibility that they are the 3 individuals that the Progeny project indicates, but i don't think they are based on the classes or that they are just simple failed experiments, but more of an answer of the Elders to the 3 groups of resistance fighters that xcom can ally to.
    Assassin: close quarter combat, armed with shotgun and sword. The Skirmisher soldier tells that she is a hunter of his kind, and the free Advent show pride in their hand-to hand combat.
    Hunter: range shooting. The Reapers say that they face someone like the Assassin, and they are masters of shooting and stealth.
    Warlock: psionic powers. The other group are the Templars ( i think, can't remember the name right now ), psi armed with swords and powers.
    The Reaper sniper tells that the Chosen they fought appeared with no warning some time ago, and kept them constantly under threat. Add that for some reason they did not intervene to fight XCOM the moment they grabbed the Commander, and you can see that maybe they were just created to be specialists, counters to the only groups that posed a threat to their dominion ( XCOM still was in shambles and not much active, they become an effective enemy only when the Commander shows up. ).
    The thing that is certain is that XCOM, especially Bradford, never even saw a single report on them, since he goes full "WTF!?!?" when the Assassins appears. That means that they were never in contact with XCOM operatives, not in the old days, nor in the close ones. And that they were not a creation to be shown in pubblic, like the rest of ADVENT and Alien forces.
    So yeah, maybe they are the 3 dudes that were grabbed and spliced with Ethereal DNA ( they seem to be similar to the old Aliens that you see in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified in some way ), but they are a recent creation, not an old one.

      +Drazar Kabalblade yeah I looked into the Outsiders (Zijian? race) as a potential source, but the differences between their appearence were too distinctive. I think something elsr happened to the Outsiders, but that is for another video in the future :)
      I'm also most certain they are counters to eachother, as for instance the Assassin takes more damage from reapers. This is a really cool addition!

    • @drazarkabalblade9486
      @drazarkabalblade9486 7 років тому

      Oh there are massive differences, no question on that. But as a spliced race it makes more sense because no other race is as similar to the humans than the Outsiders ( mutons are way more bulky, spliced sectoids have, I think, a bigger head, and these are the most similar ).
      I considered this: the similar bodies, the fact that they can fluently speak human with their mouths ( something that no other race can do, even the Advent soldiers loose that ability and probably have to recover it ), have emotion and free will ( looking to the Hunter, it's clear that they can be "infected" by the way the Human act, something similar happened to one soldier of Outsiders that was captured by the first XCOM ) and have access to the Psi-powers. The list of creatures capable of this things is pretty small all things considered, and only one was seen before with the Ethereals but not by Bradford.
      About the fact that the faction counter the Chosen, it is indeed a cool addiction, and if i heard right the "rivalry" is something that will always appear in their weakness list, but i think it only gets the point stronger.
      The assassin seems very focused on Mox ( she tries to attack him first, she captures him instead of the Reaper ), and Mox knows her enough.
      The Reaper however is perfectly suited to fight her: she has shadow ( so she can run and search for her ), fights from far away ( means that the favored weapons of the Assassin, the shotgun and swords, are ineffective ) and in the video the Reaper manages to find her before she attacks ( she shoots her while invisible to protect Mox ). Something like that is shown in the damage output then.
      I may be entirely wrong of coruse, it's just something that I thought.
