  • In this ep, I start the process of cleaning up the rat's nest of wiring my 1969 Porsche 911 by using the Classic Retrofit Fuse Panel, which is a monumental task!
If you are restoring a vintage Porsche or a Vintage VW, you know how bad the wiring can be! In this step by step video, I show you how I'm cleaning up and upgrading the wiring.

This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

It's funny because most people are instantly turned off by anything to do with wiring, I like to figure things out so I get right in there too! Really enjoy how you show your trouble shooting and how sometimes it doesn't always work out first try

makes sense that the ungrounded fuse block wouldn't power the headlights, but other circuits were fine. Those relays rely on a ground (as do the LED fuse Good/bad indicators) to operate. Without the ground, the fuses do their jobs but the relays can't. Great video, we are all learning from you!

The question is what's worse...diagnosing electrical wiring issues or block sanding???

I upgraded my fuse panel in my 78. As I moved wires, I labeled every wire using a label maker that prints on heat shrink tubing. Now I can look at any wire and immediately see what device it is associated with.

While you have finished I suggest others use tubular crimps on their multi strand wires as this should improve the contact area in the terminal block.

Mate I love your car, how much would it cost to get you to do that to a rolling shell for me?

Hey Michael I have really enjoyed watching you working on the gray ghost and now upgrading your electrical system that’s great, that’s what I’d like to do to my 1974 911.
But why do you and other people always want to paint the engine compartment and the trunk black?? Black is such a horrible color to paint those areas it makes looking for your wiring looking for nuts and bolts. you have to have a military grade flood light shining in those areas to work to see what you’re doing? To me when I see an engine compartment painted black or the trunk when the car is a different color it makes me think there’s some thing they’ve got a hide because black will help cover it up and make things harder to see. Still I think the gray ghost is a great car and you’ve put a lot of hard work into it I wish mine was built as good as yours congratulations on a great car.

@@rennch.you are doing great! You figured out the strange ‘69 bus bars and moved the circuits around. That’s good. Yes, relays need the ground to function. For your main beam (brights). Check the white feed wire is going in on 1. 1 and 2 are joined at the output side and go to each lamp.

That was really lovely, shot in your home town. Was that McMullows there when you were a wee girl? Can imagine you peering in looking at all the dresses. I bet you never imagined in a million years you'd have the wardrobe you have today ❤
