Yeah, it mirrors the lead up to the market crash in the great depression to an eery degree, and there's not really any barriers to the social media aspect. Like the whole reason large media outlets can sway the market with a single story is if they are offering an opinion [not direct advice] based on data and they aren't invested in the subject of the article before or after for 72 hours, which are some pretty cut and dry lines on paper, Financial advisors and institutions are also subject to SEC fines as well as dismissal from their job/likely finance altogether. These social media investing gurus have accountability for the fines and such to the SEC but much like a snakeoil salesman or scam artist they can just 'move on to the next town' after tanking their following somewhere and paying what amounts to a 'parking ticket'. I think it's neat a small amount of averagish joes took a fight to wall street, but this is beginning to look a lot like the roaring 20s.

It'd be nice if they just gave advice that was adjustable for people's situations. Like most people don't have 50% left over, a large amount of people do have at least something left over even if it's a tiny bit. Like they could explain "Hey, after all of your necessities if you only have 5% left, that's a tiny amount so actually save 4% from that pile" but no they don't, they just act like everyone's situation is the same

Can confirm. That's literally not legal in America! As someone who has had to schedule 16 year olds at work...We cannot mess around when it comes to that. The U.S. government does taking schooling very seriously.
Other teenagers who have gotten away with working more in the past (because there are so many personal anecdotes out there)...Had someone like me found out and reported it, and it objectively broke the law, they would get a visit from the government and at least told "stop, we're watching you, don't do it again" 😡.
Point is: He did not work 25 hours for $12 an hour at age 16. 😆 NOT in America, at least. 🇺🇸
Writing this out really made me think about it and it's laughable.

Having the resources to keep kids in school til age 18 must be provided, a highschool diploma is so required for every job that they have to go back to get a GED, and funding education is the only way to actually end the cycle of poverty in America. It's sad. We need to pour money into all our school systems. It's pretty much the only way out of here. Education must be well funded and teaching must become a coveted job.

My dad does daytrading (just for fun, he has a job lol) and while you definitely can make money from it, you're not making anywhere near the crazy amounts these people claim unless you get EXTREMELY lucky. You can earn a few percent of what you invested here and there but you're not getting rich from it. Furthermore if you DO invest, you should ONLY ever invest money you can afford to lose because it could easily go down, or at least you may have to leave it there for a long time before it goes up. Only invest what you can spare!! If you can't afford to lose it, put it in a normal savings account - better safe than sorry.

Anyone who says they got stacked off of daytrading already had money when they started getting "rich" off stocks.
Also your taxes are higher if your profit comes from within the first year of acquiring the asset.

I love how the people making $500k a week or whatever don't tell you how much they actually invested to get there. Anyone who is making significant, life changing money on stocks has invested at least thousands to get there. If a $50 stock jumps to $60 you're only going to make $1k after you've already invested $5k

These guys are frustrating because if they were just more conscious of the variety of people's situations their advice could be so much better. Because like, yeah the truth is that most people don't save as much as they should or could, there's even a pretty good chunk of poor people who could even save a little bit if they put their minds to it. But no, instead they're like "Oh yeah y'all have 60% left over to fuck around with right?" It's not compassion and understanding for what's a realistic amount to save for someone's situation, or the variety of difficulty of people's situations, it's just a weird one size fits all thing.
Also investing can be a smart move but these people are acting like the benefits are short term, when in reality the only way to do it smart results in an ok profit over many many years. It's also not reasonable to expect everyone to be able to put a ton of money into it.
These guys think it's easy to have so much money left over, but maybe that's just because you're 16 bro and not a single mother who has bills to pay and mouths to feed.
This shit really frustrates me because it's good to save, it's good to invest, but it's not at all easy or as dumbed down as these guys would suggest. I wish Nick would have explained better that these things can be reasonable without being cartoonishly over the top like these guys suggest, but oh well
