Andrei Ulmeyda was, to me, the most unique target from Killer7. He wasn't the owner of a business, not a politician, not a government official, not a comic book artist with an ego. Instead, he was a charismatic guy that wanted to make the lives of people a bit better, finding vaccines for deadly diseases and trying to combat Heaven Smile, even if most of his actions were... questionable at best. It makes it all the sadder when tears run down his face when he tells the Killer7 to kill him before he catches Heaven Smile, and knowing what happens after that just makes it kind of depressing.
Interesting fact: Andrei Ulmeyda was voiced by the same voice actor who did Leonardo of the 1987 TMNT cartoon show and Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Cam Clarke is amazing!
Also fun fact about MGS characters, No More Heroes (also directed by Suda51), has several characters who have voice actors for characters throughout the MGS franchise
This whole cutscene is amazing but one small detail i always liked is that the ulmeyda's "climax" isn't perfectly timed with the explosion. Most media would synch the two to create a more shocking effect but here the small delay adds a touch of believability to the scene.
Someone said it already: Stacey is implied to be a Smile, bombing her own concert. Ulmeyda's actions are actually an attempt at achieving justice and peace, warning viewers about the danger of the Heaven Smile, and creating a utopian society for achieving said peace, but of course, for some reason, the government gave him an injection of Smile, involving some sort of strategic significance of the town Ulmeyda occupied to the armed forces... Politics. XD
2 Reasons. Uno: Garcian was sent to assassinate the man because he had a piece of the Yakumo. The yakumo is basically supposed to be the Art of War for politics (but on steroids). Even with just a piece, he created a fake corporation and basically ruled a small society. Dos: He was a christ like figure that injected himself with diseases and overcame them. So they probably wanted to create a cure for the smiles.
I have my own theory that he was already infected with the Smile, he was trying to find a cure for the deadliest disease of all after he overcame all the others this is the next logical step don't you agree? The people working for him were fed his blood which contained a version of the Smile which he managed to turn dormant making him a carrier but not overtaken by it (until the whole government thing) This explains the unique enemies in this town and why car boy at the end knows what his blood tastes like. Ulmeyda was a hero.
IIRC, it turns out Ulmeyda hired the Killer7 on himself basically to euthanize him if he failed to beat the Smile disease. He comes off as a mad cult leader but he knows what he's doing.
If you played/watched the game until the end, then you'll get what I'm about to say: Faintly in the TV during Mills' call you hear: "You don't get it, you just don't get it do you" *Something I can't make out* "Your (parent) has Type A your (parent) has Type O and that, I'm gonna have to say: you're AB! Whoa, now that's cool. That, is cool" *small bio tangent* It's cool because if you mix A phenotype blood (AA or Ai) and O type Blood (i i), it is impossible to make AB blood, because there is no B phenotype in either of those blood types. *probably anyone who has played this game graduated high school years ago but if you missed out now you know* How Ulmeyda knows Garcian's bloodtype is a mystery but its foreshadowing the school investigator's notes on Emir.
Dude. Holy crap. I've played this game twice through and watched the cutscenes even more, but I never realized he was saying this. Adds more to Suda51's genius, and further shows that he really knew what he was doing, contrary to critics since 2005 who have said the game's just random nonsense.
Greatest quote of the game: "Hello Mr. Smith. The election is drawing near. Have you decided on your vote? If you haven't, please let the Republic Party make the most of your precious vote. Thank you and have a nice day."
Fun fact: That's Mills telling Garcian to go to the overpass where they meet. It's sort of like a code-word they use, "Meet me at the overpass" Is way too suspicious, especially in the Killer7 Universe.
Very much so, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Hotline Miami got the idea from this. (The devs are open fans of Suda and vice-versa, and Hotline Miami takes quite a few cues from k7 and NMH.)
@@Cakepants Is that what it was about? I thought it was kind of a "slap in the face" type comment, because the votes don't mean anything since the President really gets elected by whoever the school wants. So saying "please vote for X party" while Garcian knows the vote doesn't mean a thing was like adding insult to injury. But knowing that was Mills' code phrase for meeting up adds an extra layer of dimension to that line. There's so much to Killer 7's story, but sadly you need to read a lot of an outside source (the book "A Hand In Killer 7") to properly grasp it all. Harman Deltahead took a job as a surveyor, but it was really just a front for his contract killing jobs. The school has enormous secret politcal power, so much so that the principals of the school become the President of the United States. The first principal of the school is Harman Deltahead. ...by the way, George Washington was the first president of the United States, and his first job was being a surveyor...
