  • Zero, and I mean zero people give Lamar the credit he deserves. So today I try to shed some light on why he's actually so much better than people understand.

Don't know much of anything about Lamar, but I see people mocking him for being more of a running back than passer. Obviously you want the QB to be a good passer, but beyond that you want them to be the most all around competent player possible.
They're the first player to touch the ball post-snap, and only player (mostly) guaranteed to have possession. Imagine a hypothetical player with a perfect mind, perfect passing, perfect rushing, unlimited endurance etc. They would obviously be the person the ball is snapped to, right?
Now, Lamar is NOT these things, but any team is going to try and find a QB with stats closest to the ideal. This seems to be the reason Lamar is getting so much attention, on average he is closer to the ideal than most QBs we've seen.

Nah, if he wins a Super Bowl all the haters will disappear. I remember it with John Elway until he won twice at the end of his career, and of course Dan Marino is still “but he never won the big game…”. As a fan, I’m just scared he’ll get injured sometime during those 17 regular season games, or be so beat up that he keeps falling short during the playoffs, and that that will take a toll on his psyche. Hopefully he’ll break through sooner rather than later, but it’s tough until he does.

Lamar does get way too much hate, but I just don't know when he's going to win the bowl. He's as talented as they come, now he just needs to be consistent. Our only losses this year were to the colts, steelers, and browns. I know wins are not a quarterback stat, but he didn't play at the same level in these losses as he did when we beat the dolphins 49ers lions or seahawks. If he can play as well as he did this year, but does it consistently, he could very easily win the super bowl. But if his ceiling is amazing, but only most of the time, it's going to be much more difficult

I have to agree. This year Lamar's stats were pretty mid. This was Mahomes' worst year statistically and he was no where near the MVP conversation yet Lamar is the greatest qb ever with basically the same stats as Mahomes. I'm not saying Mahomes should be MVP by any means, but he had 73 more total yards and two less total tds. Lamar had a great team with a turnover differential of + 12. There were plenty of players who had a better year than Lamar. I think CMC would be deserving over Lamar. Lamar's 2019 MVP was legit, but this year he's just getting it because he's the best player on the best team, not necessarily the most valuable. I would make the argument that any decent passer could win with this year's Ravens team, especially when they led the league in getting the ball back via turnovers. It's funny how the media keeps pushing the next guy into the ring with Mahomes. Last year it was Burrow and before him Josh Allen. Lamar doesn't deserve all the praise he gets. Last year he could have played in the playoffs but he chose to sit out to not endanger him getting his money. No one seems to bring that up. That's not leadership in my opinion.

Yeah he's not elite just via passing but man is he scary on the ground and remember that teams need to plan for that so he might make people be open or get more yards just by being so threatening with his legs that the defense is softer in one of the areas to account for the other. Bro is insane and is criminally underrated imo. "Zero, and I mean zero people give Lamar the credit he deserves..."
50 people voted him for MVP back in 2019. At least 26 will again this season. It's absolutely true that Lamar gets more criticism than he deserves (Herbert is a good comparison, though maybe in that case it's Herbert that is overrated). But some of his defenders go too far the other way and pretend nobody is giving him any credit, or that anyone relevant in football still thinks he should be a running back.
His lack of playoff success is also a bit overblown. He's been to the playoffs twice as the 1 seed, which gives him less chances to beat up on a wild card team to pad his stats compared to Allen or Burrow. It also doesn't help that he's in the same conference as Mahomes, who is better than him but also much everyone at the moment. That said, it still seems like he has a bit of trouble playing his best in the biggest games (ie, when you want him at his best). It's something he needs to work on if he wants a championship instead of just regular season accolades, but you can do much worse for a quarterback

If he performed a little better in the Chiefs game and the Bills divisional loss in 2022, people would be kinder towards his playoff legacy. However, his playoff success has been lacking and his performance can only be described as choke after choke. Yeah, JA lost to the Chiefs 3 times in the playoffs, yet he showed up most of the time. Burrow actually went to a SB and a Conference Championship, beating legitimate opponents like Mahomes and Allen. To me, it’s not only the win loss record in the playoffs but the way he went out. That Chiefs game was winnable despite he played like crap for three quarters.

That playoff record screams the reason.
2-4 in the postseason is as bad as Prescott
who is also nitpicked for his postseason record
He is one of the most talented qbs(hince why he is still in my top 10(behind: Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Purdy, Stafford, Goff, Herbert(who remember never had anything above a bottom 10 defense EVER), Rogers and maybe Hurts but thats debatable))
However when the ball is in his hands to win the game he doesnt show up
I think Steven A said it best "With all due respect, it was a choke job. What is a choke job? Its when day in and day out you do what you do until you do not."
Nobody really cares what the fuck the statsheet says when he CAN NOT WIN BIG GAMES(meaning playoff games)
Also keep in mind you mentioned the AFC championship as somewhat of a positive because he supposedly kept them in the game
He didnt keep them in the game
Zay Flowers and Justin Tucker did it
Them along with the defense shutting out KC in the second half
You should have had them dead to rights but they werent
Because Lamar threw into trip coverage, overthrew his receivers, didnt hand the ball off, didnt protect the ball at all
Now he is the best scrambling qb but the whole force him to beat you from the pocket isnt a bad move
Because he isnt a pocket passer
the film is enough to prove it
Then you give Jackson all of these accolades and dont mention:
    The number 1 defense
    The number 1 offensive line
    2 number 1 receivers
The number 3 TE in the league
He is good but holy shit nobody is "not giving him the credit he deserves"
He legitimatly doesnt show up when the chips are on the table
Herbert has legit excuses and has literal nfl records
What the actual fuck is Lamar's excuse?

    • @iraxks0341
      @iraxks0341 8 місяців тому +6

The chiefs game was on the whole team. You left out the part where Zay fumbled on the one yard line, after a GREAT Lamar read, but conveniently put in the part where, yes Lamar made a mistake. And you say Lamar “ wasn’t handing the ball off”. The ravens called SIX run plays. The OC abandoned the run game that was working great all season and that didn’t help Lamar out at all. Can’t just audible every play to a run. Even if he wanted to, not every formation called by the OC allows for a successful run. As well as, most starting quarterbacks in the league these days are not pure pocket passers so that’s not fair to push that “not a pocket passer” agenda on Lamar. I’ve watched every game since he’s been with the ravens and I’ve seen him beat teams with his arm. If you keep up with Lamar’s games, you’ve seen him do it. That’s a tired narrative. Tired.
Yes, we all know the RAVENS choked this year, the one year Lamar actually had weapons. And as a sidenote, just remember that Mark Andrews was out for a lot of the year and was not fully healthy for that playoff game.
I completely see where you’re coming from with the Herbert and Prescott convo, but wtf does that have to do with an unbiased conversation about Lamar. That’s one of my biggest hates of people talking online is that in order to demean one player, they’ll bring another player up that’s in a completely different organization, with each organization, having its own respective challenges. But I’ll play your game of comparing.
Herbert has had the weapons, not the coaches, and doesn’t make the players around him better. Prescott has had the weapons, but is not clutch, and panics. So until I see either one of them get as far as Lamar has, win TWO MVPs, (one of which is best WR was a trash rookie version of Hollywood) and have the win loss record that he has, with below average talent and coaching around him, LAMAR is better.
See how easy it is to spin a narrative when you can’t keep the main thing the main thing

    • @fate8718
      @fate8718 8 місяців тому +4

@@iraxks0341 Aight for organization Im gonna number points:
      1. Yes we agree Zay fucked up with the fumble, however if Lamar got the read on the deep pass that got them there faster its a td either way(so it was a Lamar fuck up to begin with) and Zay had 115 yards and a score so Im not really gonna blame him, yk when lamar thought THROWING INTO TRIPLE COVERAGE was a good idea with the game on the line. That man is not Brock Purdy, he can not get away with that because BA is not in that end zone.
      2. He has admittedly gotten a lot better at passing and I will admit my wording does come off as a lot worse than it actually was.
However he is only really deadly with his legs and most teams that can shut that down shut him down. Its why the Colts won that game lol. Its why he cant beat Pittsburg to save his life.
      3. You can call one out rq, or hell fuck it, TALK TO YOUR COACH ABOUT IT. While I agree in retrospect "hand the ball off" is a wild critique, the video plays this off as a "good game from Lamar" and explicitly states this NUMEROUS TIMES, thats one of a few problems and a couple of those formations were rpos and they just didnt do it.
      4. Andrews being Hurt most of the year sucks if they didnt have Likely, and doesnt change the point he had weapons and this guy makes it seem like it wasnt Lamar's fault.
      5. The Herbert thing I mentioned was justification on why I threw Herbert over Lamar and Dak literally was drawing parallels on how we see quarterbacks.
The Herbert one means nothing but on your comment about MVPs
We realize assuming Purdy wins this ring, we are gonna look back on this season and say "Purdy was fucking robbed" right? Like he only won it off of a good Christmas day win. Purdy beats him in damn near every stat(and funniest shit is he had a similar number of rushing yards on a lot less carries than Lamar)
So Im gonna ignore MVP 2
And while Ill give him MVP 1, cool Cam Newton, what happened in the playoffs? Derrick Henry?
Yeah so fucking great regular season player
reminds me of someone? oh fucking Dakota
And Lamar has always had good coaching idk where that narrative came from? Harbaugh? Macdonald?
Sure that OC was prolly a little sped but he still won more games than not
And he was given weapons this year what happened? the same shit as usual
Herbert again has never had any better than a bottom 10 defense, Lamar has always had a top 10 defense, Herbert has multiple nfl records, Lamar doesnt.
Like MVPs are nice but when those MVPs in context look mid as hell its insane.
      7. Again I like Lamar's talent but playoff success matters a lot and he hasnt shown he can compete in games where all the chips are on the table. Thats my issue with him
Saying that is anything but valid is just objectively wrong. Sure qb wins arent entirely a qb stat, however the qb influences wins and losses a lot and when a lot of the losses are just on him it turns that around. Like the Houston win was on the defense and had nothing to do with him(most of the points he scored were late in the 4th quarter to extend a garbage time lead)
Every playoff loss however? Yeah 100% he did numerous things that fucked them up.

@@fate8718 1. It’s really not fair to say “got there faster. He got them there. That’s what matters. Zay also didn’t get those 115 by himself. That TD Lamar threw to him at the beginning was something only about 2 to 3 quarterbacks in the league can do but nobody wants to talk about that play because it doesn’t fit the Lamar narrative
      2. The entire ravens team for the first half of the season played to their competition in all aspects of the game. Also more than half of Lamar’s losses against the Steelers comes in the last game of the season where the ravens already have playoff lock, and the Steelers are fighting to get their glorious “above .500”
      3. Horrible game plan all around. When ravens had more than 20 carriers a game this year, the ravens won. Should have stuck to that.
      4. I think people were just waiting for the chance, for Lamar actually had weapons and “blew it”. It gave his haters so much more fuel. He’s not the only elite quarterback to “blow it” with weapons. Remember when Peyton “blew it” against the Seahawks
      5. I don’t know what stat you’re looking at, but Lamar had around 700 more rushing yards than Purdy this season season. And in the same Christmas Day game that you were referencing, Lamar beat a very good 49ers defense with his arm, while Purdy against an elite defense threw four picks.
      6. Lamar has not had numerous things that lost all those games. 2018 he was a rookie…shit happens. 2019 his WRs dropped everything. 2020 he had over 170 passing and over 130 rushing against the Titans and then in the bills game, I distinctly remember him running for his life.
      7. Herbert can have all the records he wants. Philip Rivers wasted his career away playing for the Chargers and in 10 years, nobody will care for what he did for the game, which was nothing btw except teaching us that condoms are bad. But I guarantee you the story of the game of football is told, people will talk about the magic and the thrill of watching quarterback, Lamar Jackson play. He truly makes the people around him better and makes the game better
As for the rest of it, Lamar throughout his career has had to elevate the talent around him. He finally had a competent OC this season, and as a team, they blew it. Even if that throw into triple coverage didn’t happen, people will always find a way to say Lamar is bringing the organization down, when all of the ravens fans know that he saved the organization, and is the X factor in every single game. People will always move the goalpost when it comes to Lamar. People always say that he’s the reason the ravens lost, and a quick to ignore that he was the only reason the ravens win

@iraxks0341 1. Damn near anyone could make that throw(just a toss over a few defenders) and a vast majority of the yardage Zay got was YAC that he created dispite some of Lamar's meh throws.
Hell on that second deep ball if it were Mahomes Purdy or Burrow that shit is a touchdown
      2. Lamar doesnt preform vs Pittsburg lmao and most of those "playoff locks" had seeding changes he could get to lmao
      3. Not getting into that I mostly agree but Lamar still choked dispite Zay Tucker and the defense
      4. Nobody was sitting around waiting for Lamar to blow it, its not some fucking conspiracy. He did just blow it, again. Its repeat behavior for this mf
      5. Refered to Championship weekend, mb if I didnt type that out. Put those "4 picks vs his defense" was 3 extramely lucky tip drills so if we are giving Lamar every benifit of the doubt possible we cant put that on Purdy, and Purdy has a better winning pct than him anyways.
      6. "He was a rookie shit happens" isnt really an excuse anymore but fuck it, 2019 we are ignoring his shitty passes all around that game, 170 passing yards isnt much and while Ill give him the buck 30 rushing he still didnt do well and legitimatly lost that game, Bills couldnt beat a team worth a damn
      7. Phillip Rivers is still a HoF qb lmao. Nobody will talk about Lamar when its all said and done, he wasnt really important to the era he is in if you wanna throw it that way. This era is mostly about Mahomes, Purdy, Allen, and Burrow right now Lamar hasnt shown he has a real place in it.
      8. This is a little "Lamar is good and people continue to move goalposts" Not a fucking once have I moved goalposts on this mf except a bit after his rookie season because he doesnt have the "rookie" excuse anymore. Just how much criticism is this guy getting when he’s about to win his second MVP? That is VOTED on btw. I don’t wanna hear anything about Lamar is receiving too much criticism when since week 14 most of the national media and fans believed the Ravens were going to be in and win the Super Bowl and rightfully so because they were dominant over that span. However, that didn’t happen and now the fanboys are mad that he’s received some criticism for his play in that playoff game.

Lamar is an elite QB. That said, his playoffs have been disappointing. People idolize Josh Allen because of his crazy efforts in his unfortunate loses against the Chiefs. He got better in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Joe Burrow is the only current QB to beat Patrick Mahomes when it counts. Lamar however lost ugly in all the playoffs loses, not even close. He clearly underperformed in those game, especially in this year’s AFC Championship. This was the greatest opportunity to beat the Chiefs and he not only failed by failed miserably.

The Chiefs beat him by doing what nay sayers said was the way to beat him, which was to keep him in the pocket and let him make mistakes- and that’s exactly what happened. I agree he gets some unfair hate but nowhere near what Brady & Purdy have to overcome. I still think he gets more undeserved praise than he does undeserved hate, by far. Lamar Jackson is not the best player on his team. But definely his weakness is his greatest ally, The Run game. If you do not use the run game to your advantage then you are trash. And the Ravens did not use that in the Cheifs game. Lamar looked pedesterian out there trying to only look for his one target. While his run game wasn't showing up. Sometimes great players just happen to play in the middle of a dynasty. Luck was amazing but he barely got anything done, Rivers was great but not part of a complete team. When you're playing at the same time as Brady and Manning is hard to get those big wins. Now there's Mahomes and a whole slew of young talented QBs in the AFC.
Worse for Jackson, he also has another incredible QB in his division, which is itself ALWAYS a bloodbath. It's fucking hard to win all the time, that's why Brady is the GOAT.
2023 Ravens were a great team who ran into a dynasty, had a few unlucky turns go against them, and didn't play as well as they could have. And that's team wide not just on Lamar.
