OH ms. Chris thank you so much for this....I was the one requested this recipe. ..I remember them I mama us to make them for me n my siblings when we we're little she would say if yall go pick some berries I make ya'll a pie n we would n she did...she passed on now...but anything I want to cook I look to u ...thank you so much mama chris
Beautiful old recipe. Done with love & good memories. My Grandmother made it this way except she didn't have the benefit of ready made crust. Love Pillsbury crust . Tastes like Grandmas because they make theirs with lard too. Lol!
My Mother made blackberry cobbler with fresh berries. She made both a bottom (par baked) and top crust. I never heard of making "dumplings" for any cobbler. I think that you may have added too much water to the berries when you cooked them making the filling too watery. The berries will give off their own juice making it unnecessary to add so much water. I would have also added some cinnamon to the recipe and sprinkled some cinnamon and sugar on top of the top crust.
Chris, I just love watching your videos! You are a born teacher. I am a seasoned cook myself but every time I watch you, I learn something new! Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
This reminds me of the cobbler my mom used to make many years ago. She learned the recipe from my granny. The only difference is that my granny sieved out most or all of the seeds so it was made more with blackberry juice. She didn't care for seeds. Love this!
Chris i completely agree. Summer vacations with my grandmother in Lynchburg VA, She would have us pick buckets of blackberries. I made my first blackberry cobbler. Thank you for giving me that memory.
Thank you so much Ms Chris. My mother in law was asking about this on mother's day and I promised her I would find a great recipe so I could make this for her. I'm super excited to try yours. You even did the criss cross crust she asked me for. Can't wait to see her face when I make this for her. You're amazing! Again, thank you for sharing!
My grandmother used to make this and would my whole family running over to her house climbing over each other to get to this pie. She passed away some years ago and I hate I never saw how she made her Blackberry cobbler but this looks just like hers 🥲🤤 I'm definitely going to try my hand at this recipe and surprise my family. I know many of our people love peach cobbler (I do as well) but Black folks in Texas seem to understand how underrated but amazing Blackberry cobbler is. Thank you for this video.
This was a great recipe. The best I have ever had and oh so simple. We picked about 20 lbs of blackberries Thursday and I used 2 qts in my lasagna pan using the ingredients exactly from your recipe and it came out great. Looking forward to trying more recipes from you. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome!!!! I've been waiting on this one. I haven't had blackberry cobbler in long time. I'll be making it this weekend. Thanks for sharing your wondering dishes.
May I just say that I love the way you show how you put it in the oven at times. You show yourself putting the dish on the top, middle or bottom rack, thank you that’s an important thing for beginners to know also.
I just tried this recipe. I was pleased with the outcome and received many compliments. I came across your channel by accident and have been hooked every since. Thanks for taking the time to share your recipes. My daughter and I appreciate your videos and you are affectionately referred to as her favorite grandmother. I work a lot and viewing your videos has become a way for my children and I to spend time with one another as well as learning new recipes to try for dinner. Thank you and God bless!!!
hadley latoya Awww, Thank you for letting me know I am appreciated. I hope you will find more recipes to try. Give your Children a big hug 🤗 from me. Y’all keep watching. 😃
Thank you so much, (Auntie)... This was my first blackberry cobbler, and it reminds me so much of my mother's. She's gone on now, but thank you so much it turned out great. 💗
Yes Lord!!! I'm from Alabama, and my granny used to make this. She called it "blackberry slang". We haven't had it since she passed years ago. I'm going to make this today. Thank you so much for sharing!!💓💞
Thanks for sharing this incredible looking cobbler. I will be making this very soon just picked fresh blackberries from my own vine. I can't wait to make this delicious cobbler.
Thank you for recipe Ms. Chris. From time to time my husband will talk about and reminisce about the days when he was young when his grandmother would make blackberry pies for him and his family. She would tell them to go and pick the berries and she would put her love into making the pies. Grandma Rose passed on last week. Timing couldn't be better for this recipe to be passed on. I love baking, but had never attempted a blackberry pie, mostly because I had never had it before. I am honored to make this pie for my husband and in honor of Grandma Rose. Thank you again.
I love it!! Thanks Mama Chris. My grandmother made her BB Cobbler almost the same as yours. But I never got her recipe. She gone home now and I miss her a lot. Now that I found your recipe I will use it as my go to BB Cobbler. I know it's gonna be over the top. I chuckled over your method of smashing a few of the berries to release a little more juice. Bursaloose is the perfect description for smashing berries. That word should be added to Webster's Dictionary. :)
Thank you so very much! My Mother would make the BlackBerry Cobbler with Dumplings from Scratch and I just loved it! I didn't get her recipe. Now, you provide me with one like she used to make! Much Love to You!
Our church is having a luncheon next Saturday and I was asked to make a blackberry cobbler. Thank you so much Ms Chris you're my go to lady cause if anyone would knock it out of the ballpark good it would be you. You're a lifesaver. So for a 9×13 pan I would use 2 - 12 oz containers of berriez
THIS IS MY FAVORITE and I cannot wait to try this with my own crusts, it has to be a double crust cobbler for me to know I’m close to heaven, ohhh thank you Mrs Chris, ty so so so much. With cobblers especially a blackberry, mulberry, my moms strawberry and even a mixed berry, chocolate cobblers and peach cobblers like my school cafeteria use to make with a crisp top crust and the gooey bottom crust is all I need. This homemade blackberry cobbler look so delicious and ik it is (the blackberry cobbler and the strawberry cobblers my mommie make are my very favorite) she’s the greatest cook ik and she don’t use recipes (she’s one of those kind of cooks) and the homemade blackberry dumplings she makes are THE best…
❤💙Sending love all the way from jersey 🧡... Every holiday i use your recipes .. and this one is a Favorit .. your the Only person that i could find this recipe from that reminds me of my godmother who past away , she raised me cooking food like this until she moved back to North Carolina ... i miss her with all my soul 😥... but this recipe actually puts a ❤😊 on my face thinking of her ...... THANK YOU SO MUCH
I'm just fixing to make your cobbler with same crust except the vanellia. (out of) Love what you did with the extra dough. I'll be doing cobblers this way from now on. Thx.
I love fruit cobblers but BlackBerry is my favorite and my husband's favorite. I have been cooking and baking for my family for many years but did not know that I could use store bought pie crust for the dumplings in a cobbler there for we don't have dumplings in our cobblers because I just didn't want to deal with making them from scratch. I will be making this recipe as soon as I get my hands on some blackberries. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise.
Ms.Chris, I can remember as a child, my mom would have me pick berries from our backyard and she would make a blackberry cobbler. It was so good. Thanks for the memories. Luv you and your great recipes. Ms.Sharon
Thank you for posting! This brings back great memories of picking blackberries as a kid. I'm going to try this when blackberries are in season here in Oregon (about a month away)! Love your videos!
Ms. Chris this was one of my favorite desserts my grandmother made when I was little. I love black berry cobbler and I'm going to make this. Thank you for sharing and bringing back memories from my childhood :-)
Looks delicious! I love blackberry cobbler! My favorite and I, too, could eat it every meal! Great watching you make it your way. I do it pretty much the same but I have never used lemon. Hmm. I like lemons though. 😆
I have to try this recipe! I made your peach dumplings chris, and it was delicious. I couldn't stop eating them. Next week my family is having a gathering and I'm going to make your peach dumplings and present them to the rest of my family.
Hi i just subscribe to your channel This black berry cobbler is the best i seen here on you tube looks like what i had as a child from my parents . i will be making this in a few day Thanks 😋
I've looked at several recipes. Then the Light came on in my brain. 🥰 How would Chris do this?? You make your BlackBerry Cobbler the way I make my Strawberry cobbler. So much easier than the meticulous other recipes I've looked at. We drove almost 50 miles to get Fresh Blackberrys. I'm so excited. Taking a break from canning tomatoes to bake a cobbler. Can't wait! I bet this is in your cookbook(s) which I have. Hugs! Thank you as always.
Took a while but I found a real true old fashioned cobbler. You had me at Pillsbury pie crust! The others used cooking spray, turbinado sugar, etc. How is that old fashioned? Thanks for the excellent recipe. I'm trying it today.
I just subscribed to your channel. I cannot thank you enough for the tip about layering the bottom of the baking dish with strips of the dough because every time I bake a peach cobbler with a double crust it always soaks up the juice and I end up with crust and peaches. Very disappointing and I end up throwing the cobbler away. I will definitely use your method. Thanks again :)
Miss Chris how are you? I love watching you cooking videos I have made so many of your recipes for my husband and I he loves them, I just finished watching your BlackBerry cobbler video and I knew how to make it I thought I want to ask you how can you get the seeds in the blackberries tender enough so you won't be crunching on the seeds? Thanks miss Chris for all your wonderful videos I just love how you explain your videos
This was absolutely delicious!! My pastor is diabetic but he loves blackberry cobbler! Can this be made with Splenda? Thank you for sharing your recipe with us!
I cannot wait to make this cobbler. Oh my goodness. I will probably cry the entire time. My mom made this all the time. Where is the ingredient list? Measurements?
I’ve been looking for a recipe like mom used to make. Thank you so much for sharing this.
