Even if u were confused abt who did this song u can never ever ever go wrong w/ The Allman Bros. Read Gregg's bk 'My Cross to Bear'. Excellent. They sacrificed so much in the name of real/ pure music and created a new genre while doing that .
The song that got me into music was "Still Loving You" by the Scorpions when I was 16, and the World Wide Live VHS tape my mother brought home one evening. Still gives me chills to this day.
Here's a great one for you. Ten Years After is the band and " I'd Love to Change the World " is the song !! It was written around 1970 and applies to today.
I was born in "55 and I feel fortunate to have listened to all these great bands that created what rock and roll would become. The collection of styles, arrangements, musical genius is just incredible, growing up as a teenager with all this great music, well I can't say enough.
This was Gregg Allman's signature song, describing how he continued on in the face of obstacles. He wrote the song, but shared the songwriting credit with Kim Payne, a roadie for the band who came up with the classic line, "The road goes on forever." After he wrote this song, Gregg Allman wanted to start recording it right away, so with the help of Kim Payne, who was guarding their equipment, he broke into the band's Macon, Georgia recording studio in the middle of the night and went to work, figuring he should get some tracks down before he forgot them. This first appeared on the second Allman Brothers album, Idlewild South, but it wasn't released as a single. The song became a live favorite and one very identifiable with Gregg, so when he recorded his first solo album, Laid Back, in 1973, he recorded a new version of this song and released it as a single. It became his biggest hit as a solo artist, charting at #19 US.

The Allman Brothers were the house band for the Fillmore East in New York, The Warehouse in New Orleans and The Fillmore West in San Francisco. They would play the Fillmore East one weekend, travel to New Orleans to play The Warehouse the next weekend, then head to San Francisco to the Fillmore West. They would play the rest of the country during the week. Every time they'd play New Orleans in the 70s, they would play an acoustic show in Audubon Park during the day then head over to the venue to play a 3 hour show! That's a real love for what they did!
Sweet girl like you doesn't watch that wicked movie lol. Speaking of, the first time I watched House of 1000 corpses, it scared the crap out of me. The second time was with my ex, and she laughed all the way through. Some people find humor in the oddest places lol.
@@ltrane81 Believe me, I'm well aware of having missed the legendary Duane Allman Live & Alive. I've read everything I can find on him, and I KNOW he WAS The Allman Brothers Band. Also from my older musician friends and bandmates stories, I've heard how phenomenal he was Live. I've listened to every note on the records he played on, every song (at least the ones I know of). From His original music and killer slide licks, to Eric Clapton's Layla, Wilson Pickett's version of Hey Jude and one or two Aretha Franklin songs he played on... Anything I could get my hands on man. But sadly it wasn't meant to be. He died October 29, 1971 and I was born June 26, 1971. So, Duane Allman to me is an awe-inspiring legend who left this world way too early, right after I came into it man.
I think you're starting to get dangerously close to a time in your musical journey when you need discover Neil Young ;) And what better way to do so with one of the most heart taking songs every written about (the darkest aspects of ) American History, and in a live recording that might constitute the absolute peak of Rock music history. You thought one bad ass soloing was mad? Wait till you get 4 mad skilled guitarists playing in synergy ;) And get ready for deep cutting soulful vocals too, while you're at it ;) Look out for the youtube video called " Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Southern Man (live audio 1970) "
This puts a smile on your face (like all of their music does), rooting all the way for the Midnight Rider. Raised in a home w/a parent w/ awesome music taste. Fellow Floridians (me-Tampa Bay area, they- Daytona Beach), their music was part of the soundtrack of my childhood. No matter what kind of day you've had, put them on & listen while it all floats away. You just feel lighter, happier & sense that it's all going to be ok. 0 Their music is vital for the soul. Astounding, knowing all the material Gregg & Duane Allman recorded together before Duane's untimely tragic death, the brothers were just in their early '20's! Gregg's voice resembled a world-weary man twice his age, as Duane commanded attention playing guitar in a style unique in rock (he was admired by both Jimi Hendrix & Eric Clapton, they adored the guy). RIP Gregg & Duane, thank you both for the Southern hospitality offered up in your music.
Gregg Allman had one of the most soulful voices ever.

They were also the first Southern rock band to have an African American band member
Hell yes, brother. Love this tune. Happy for you.
#1 best in the world riding song... sit back, stretch out, feet up on the highway pegs... and rollllllll... LOVE IT!
The Weight by The Band you’d like that song. Kinda in the same realm as this song in my opinion. 🤘🏻
Definitely check out The Weight
Your reaction to the older rock songs are like mine...they hit me as classic
"Dreams" by the Allman Bros. will blow you away, Jamel -
One of my all-time favorites. So much talent and sounded like no one else.
2 dope. This is the CD that I listen to almost everyday.
I hope you keep Rockin' On! You bring a new perspective to Rock and Roll to a new generation. I appreciate what you're doing...
Absolutely love this song!!!
Glad you see it my way. :) One of the most soulful songs of all time. On my all-time top-10. The dual-solo is mesmerizing. The song feels to short, but it's a masterpiece as it is.
Soulshine live at the Filmore 🔥
Smooth and haunting. Ride through the night leaving nothing behind, free.
I think the remake on Gregg's solo album "Laid Back" is a better version.
Whenever I hear this song I automatically think of the Devil’s Rejects ... 😁
Right... It opens with this and ends with free bird best ever
z3r0hAm n0gAm3 right on!!!
Whatsamatter? Don't you like clowns?!
Sweet girl like you doesn't watch that wicked movie lol. Speaking of, the first time I watched House of 1000 corpses, it scared the crap out of me. The second time was with my ex, and she laughed all the way through. Some people find humor in the oddest places lol.
Howie Davis I am sweet but love horror LOL😁😁
Best live band I've ever had the privilege to watch and of course listen to. R.I.P. Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks 🙏
Russ Jarman hopefully it was wit Duane, or least in the 70s.
You should listen to “Life’s Been Good” by Joe Walsh👍
one of the best bands to come out of the 70's --i couldnt live without them in the day!!!
I think you're starting to get dangerously close to a time in your musical journey when you need discover Neil Young ;)
And what better way to do so with one of the most heart taking songs every written about (the darkest aspects of ) American History, and in a live recording that might constitute the absolute peak of Rock music history.
You thought one bad ass soloing was mad? Wait till you get 4 mad skilled guitarists playing in synergy ;)
And get ready for deep cutting soulful vocals too, while you're at it ;)
Look out for the youtube video called " Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Southern Man (live audio 1970) "
Driven many many miles driving thru the night listening to this song and many other Allman Brothers.
Macon GA.s very own.
This was also in the beginning of walking tall with the rock.
This puts a smile on your face (like all of their music does), rooting all the way for the Midnight Rider. Raised in a home w/a parent w/
awesome music taste.
Oh man you have to do their song "Melissa" soon.
One of my all time favorites...both the song and the Allman Brothers.
