Great video! Love all the ideas on how to reduce filament waste. Like what Alex Swavely mentioned, I would definitely pay attention to the licenses of any model, especially if people attend to sell them. BTW, nice coffee mug at the end, I might know that guy and his awesome doggie 😆
The trick with the flush objects is to think of single use objects and tools. I need things to mix and pour resin so I make tweezers, stir sticks, cups, etc. I print the cardboard spool adapters with poop also. Printing bambus filament transfer thing one piece at a time until I get all the parts helps. I also print handles for files and other tools.
Just like knobs, handles, and parts you can use. If the color doesn’t matter 👍 I printed some boxes for the gridfinity system. Now I am thinking. Can it be used as supports? I don’t know 🤷
I think that creators like you are absolutely crucial to making concepts like these accessible to newer makers. Can't possibly give enough kudos. Easiest subscribe of 2024 so far! 😁
My first printer was a Anycubic Kobra 2 Max (Xmas23) and within three weeks I decided it needed a friend and purchased a X1C (4days old now). The "poop" volume was quite surprising so here I am looking for solutions and this video was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks 🙂
I will say that the wasted plastic. .. is a big reason it took me so long to actually get into 3d printing. I really wish it was easier to recycle. But I'm still going to print so I really really appreciate any tips of reducing waste.
For me it’s more about too much plastic entering our garbage. Recycling isn’t a great thing cost wise, but much better than just throwing it into landfill. Of course prevention is by far the best method, so your tips are great. Second to that recycle into other object at print time then followed by recycling into new filament and lastly discarding…. Another option is to melt it into something flat, like a placemat or drink coasters using egg rings…..
i have been using the 60% purge reduction gcode for weeks now and havent had a single issue with it, and it saves 20mm of fillament per color change! it should be made the standard!
The only problem I've found so far is when purging from black it needs a little extra purge so I manually set black purges higher. And also using bambu silver pla basic, that stuff takes so long to clean out. I've tried.6 and .8 but it still shows flakes of silver throughout the other colors. I've had to also set silver purge manually much higher. So it really depends on what color/brand/ makeup of the filament used.
Its embarrassing to admit i was not aware u could use an object as a print tower.. or infill an object. Thanks for this video. Generally i dont do a lot of 2 color printing, and when i do, i make every effort to make the second color the last color, ie at the top of the print. If it must be on the side, meaning a color change on every layer, i try to make it a separate print and glue/bolt it on. I usually design my own prints and they are more utilitarian than characters (lizards, bears, ducks, etc). Those colorful prints would be very difficult to minimize color changes. Thanks for such an informative video.
I don't have a Bambu but I have an EcubMaker ToyDIY, which can do 2 colors. It uses no purge tower, just a poop chute that leaves it all off on the side.
just started listening to 3d printing podcasts. Caught your episode on the infill podcast, i gotta say you are my favorite guest so far. I look forward to your content. Thanks for being awesome Denise you rock!!
One thing I just got into that hurts to see is a 0.2mm nozzle. The extruder volume that has to purge after the filament cut happens is the same, but the nozzle is smaller. You have really big, time consuming poops 😅 But that print quality and tiny tiny, detail is oh so worth it.
Google "Ideas on boosting speed for multi-color printing with AMS" and follow the instructions on the Bambu forum topic that comes up. I too almost exclusively print with a 0.2mm nozzle, and DzzD's g-code has saved me hours per print. Huuuuuge improvement.
The purging volume has nothing to do with the nozzle diameter, but with "chamber" between the filament cutter and the nozzle tip. The "old filament" in this "chamber" needs to be flushed in order to remove the leftovers to prevent contamination. And some color combinations even need to flush more filament.
Advances like this are what's making 3D printing more appealing for me. I simply don't like the idea of excess waist for its own right. The cost is one thing, but just adding to the trash is the bigger issue for me. Thanks for sharing.
As someone who intentds to print somethings that I'm just going to print, this is very helpful. I knew that there was a purge to object option, but I couldn't find it. I wish it was more up front since it's so useful.
Denise, you need to jump on this. You have 3500 subs but 29000 views. This is a hot topic. I have looked for it in the past and the solutions are limited and the nerds get nerdy. They reduce it with a small percentage. You have made leaps and bounds. I will subscribe now and finish the video.
Good video, with some good tips and ideas on how to minimize waste! Personally, I like to use Gridfinity grids and bins as purge objects. I use Zach Friedman's Gridfinity system to organize a bunch of stuff, and for the most part I don't care what color they are, so it's worked out fine for me.
This is a very useful/great video as someone who just received their P1S and is trying to figure this out. Funny enough, when I print something, it seems everyone in my household is most excited about the poop rather than the print - "IT"S POOPING!!!!!".
Super refreshing to see a Creator of the ‘80s who know what VHS, Garbage Pail Kids and Parachute Pants are talking about 3DPrinting. Just bought a A1 Mini with AMS and waiting for it to arrive. Mahalo for sharing. Aloha from Hawaii 🤙🏽 Totally Rad 😂😂😂😂
thank you very much. I just received mine A1 in the mail. I have a bunch of functional parts I can throw on the bed. I'm not into "toys" but I can create stuff for the grandkids with this tip.
It's a bit nit-picky, but bambu and orc create a prime tower, not a purge tower. the prime tower is there to prime the nozzle for printing. It's the same thing as that line it draws at the start of printing towards the front of the plate. With color changes it needs to do this at various heights so that's why it's a tower. The printer purges the filament in the poop basket, into infill and objects as you demonstrated. That's why you need the prime tower and those 2 checkboxes don't eliminate it. Also the prime tower isn't counted into the flushed filament counter, but it's effectively still poop.
Good point, it's still "purging" but for a different reason. I've got a beta version of Bambu Slicer for the A1 and they added a column for the Tower. Now it's clear that the prime tower has no influence on the amount of purge.
Since it has always been enough to just draw one line it would be a good setting to automatically shrink or slim down the tower as much as possible! Especially when the printer starts with printing the infill first ... it would not need that prime tower.
Im not trying to eliminate ALL waste, but it gets ridiculous when the printer stops and says "Hey man, the poop backed up into the build volume." I had a 4 color job that required me to dump my poop tray like 4 times
Thanks good video. I never used the "purge into object" feature on my X and P1S. Suggestions: I use shorts without spools (fooling my AMS when loading) and call all similar filament types as same color and make silicone spool inserts including my mod for Sunlu and like spools (looks like original just larger) and print all 3 parts by object. Can use your idea for a useful purge object. The purchase (or addiction) for filament never ends. What a great hobby/extra $$ maker.
Just got our Bambu for Chrsitmas. Changing my flushing volumes definitely affected the totals. When I changed the "flush into objects infill" there was no change. But when I clicked on Flush into this object... I must have done something wrong. I was using one filament color and one support. It used the color for the initial part of the print. But when it changed to the support it did the rest of the print in support. Still learning. Really glad I found your page. But the initial changes helped a lot. Subscribing to find out more.
Be careful flushing into infill. If your model is a lighter in color and you are purging a darker color into its infill, it WILL show through your walls and create varying bands of color throughout the model. So use flush into infill wisely or print excessive amounts of walls (more than 4 at least) to help hide the color differences. Just speaking from experience.
Great video! Just set our first printer up a few days ago (P1S w/ AMS) and definitely needed to see this. Printing from my phone has been so easy that I haven’t started using Bambu Studio yet, but this gives me another good reason to get in there.
I am a new, just bought my P1P with AMS a few days ago. I have been really surprised but the amount of waste. But I look at it as a small price to pay for the perfect multicolor prints. Maybe my opinion will change with time show knows.
Great video! There is a air of causuality to it that is accessible to people from all levels and the info is still valid, relevant and legit. I'd love to see more of this. Might not always be for me but pretty sure every level of user should be able to find contect that suits them. For my level this video was perfect as I just got my bambu printer and still so much info about everything and anything.
Thanks! Special thumps up for the Estonian national flag colored sinimustvalge (blue-black-white) purge tower for panda print can be seen on the computer screen during last minute of the video. But seriously, I haven't bought Bambu yet, because of huge amount of the poop. I have Snapmaker J1 IDEX and very happy with machine. Thinking about combining it with Mosaic Palette instead of buying Bambu with AMS.
BB (Before Bambu) the Palettes looked amazing and then seemed to just drop out of sight. Always intrigued by IDEX and multiple tool head options like the Prusa. We had a quirky Kywoo Tycoon IDEX, Snapmaker Artisan, and the Lottmax Shark for multi-material. They all worked ok, with less waste and a lot less versatility than the Bambu line.
I think the opening to this video is the most important point. People seem far more hung up on Bambu Poop while completely ignoring that we've had plenty of waste since the start with supports and failed prints, not to mention the hundreds of test prints and prototypes that just end up in the circular bin. To suddenly be all in arms about the poop seems weird to me. Sure I'd like to reduce it where I can, but really only because it fills up the bucket :)
Every scene of the video had the subject on display as well as hints and suggestions in the background and around the edges. This was so full of information it was like the audio was one stream of info, and the video was two or three streams of info. This was an information dense video.
Now if I can get my A1 to play nice with bambu PLA that would be great!! I use Sunlu 98% of the time, works great, Creality..No problem PLA and PETG. I load up a Bambu filament, It's spaghetti city or don't stick at all. As for the poop. I don't care that much it's not like it's $$ My A1 with AMS is a nifty thing! Not that fast but does the job. Has odd quarks like wanting me to enable suports in the slicer for everything including flat coasters. I still recommend 8/10.
There's some cool toys you can also purge with, like those not-lego modular bricks, I don't want to be rude if I'm mistaking but shold be The Printer Professor's stuff, or those cool Hextraction tiles by Zach Friedman which is a must have of a table game if one prints! To me the very valuable advice has been to print them in batches. It's not obvious until it is. The Gcode trick might be a bit too hacky for my knowledges but the graphic explained it perfectly and it's a cool thought! I already modify the purge volumes but that might be groundbreaking if someone's new to Bambu Studio.
I'd love to see that! Would you do a model in the middle and then a coil around the outside? I wonder how much filament you could cram on the bed with that method. 😃
For private users it would be clever to have a queue of practical objects (for the household) to use as that purge object. It could be: - adapters (for spools) - baskets, organizers, brackets that are not to be seen - functional parts in any way. - in a way also that test prints most people do for fun. - parts that are going to be painted I think all those tips combined should be put together and by the time added with new ones and printed out on paper to each AMS customer by default. There is soo much a presliced profile from makerworld or the default settings doesn't tell you.
One thing I'd like to point out: If you use the option to flush into object, your preview will show it uncolored. The first times I tried it, I thought it was another Bambu bug, but I realized that they probably show it uncolored (base color) so that you don't expect a colored object.
For your slug adhesion issue - try Elmer's Disappearing Purple Glue Stick, it comes in Jumbo size format for easy application - and works a charm for most plastics. (and is water washable if you don't like it, not to mention rather cheap) - extremely useful for those corners that just won't stay down, or small surface to bed ratios for larger objects - like those slugs. Simply apply a nice thin layer anywhere you need it -while the bed is cooled - and let it dry for about 5 minutes. Then preheat and print as needed. Typically can get a good dozen or more prints out of it before it stops working, results vary if you touch it with oily fingers of course, or high dust areas.
Good video, saw you at ERRF 2022, but didn't get to say hi. I try to be very cautious what I print and the color changes, these tips will be a great help
Really great video, I will give it a go! But admittedly, I am lucky, I have a filiment supplier that for $1 will take my waste, and gives me back gram for gram brand new filiment of any colour of my choice. I just have different box's to tip the different types of waste into. This week I have 5 kg to take back, which means I can replace all the wasted filiment from the pooping in the colours I used.😊
Wow this is such an underrated video. Everyone needs to watch this and reduce the filament poop. Liked, shared, subscribed and downloaded for better reach 🍻 wish you the best.
It's more a forgotten feature of Prusa slicer (actually it was Slicer at that point). it's been there since MMU1 for about 6 years. But thank you for your tips =). Like the slugs
@@stldenise Yeah we developed it in PrusaSlicer. But it's honestly nice to see it still helping reduce the waste years after release, no matter what printer or PrusaSlicer variant is used!
Wonderful review BTW... Honestly I love the AMS, because it will change to another roll when the current run out,.and I don't understand why Bambu Lab don't sell an AMS that's NOT multi material but the same material, I mean if you run a farm it will be HUGE improvement in productivity, I do use an Airbrush to paint my models, so changing colors is not "that" useful to me and in my case I can get much better result without poop... So there you go.
We have a Bambu in the office and the widgets we make out of purge-poo we give away. We've had people call in and say "hey how much will it cost to get 20 of this beetle/butterfly/frog sample yall gave me in "This" color? It's rare but it happens. Rick hates wasting consumables.
Great tips!! I’m always needing filament spool clamps, great use for random poop color purge objects! Thank you Great video, well presented, & quick to the point, love your voice too, calming. Thanks so much ❤🎉
Its great to reduce poop, but the best suggestion i can give is to keep the poop, then melt in silicone molds, really does give great affects, nothing goes to waste in my household
7:22 Thanks for the shoutout! My acceptable range of waste is 1-20g, I usually multiply between .65 and .80 depending on filament type and brand. Sometimes it’s super difficult to get the number down when printing with 4 colors unless you want a tonne of flushed objects. I’ve found that Dragons, Eggs and my Fidget bolts sell best as purged objects 😎✌️and honestly I prefer how they look 😍 Great video btw I’ll definitely forward people on my socials to this as you did such a great job of explaining 😎✌️
So much great information, such a great way to present it, and done in 1/3rd the time of a typical vlogger... Good job! I am an impatient person when it comes to watching technical videos. So many content producers spend as much or more energy on "fluff" than they do on meaningful content. I just hung up on a pod cast where they had 40 minutes of content, and 5 minutes in they were still talking about how great the two podcasters are and how they came this far... Good info I'm sure, if I wanted their biography. I really like that pod caster for his written works, but I think it's because I can just skip reading his bio each time. But you value my time, and dwell on each subject long enough to fully cover it, without making me feel like you get paid to make your videos longer. That was 8 minutes of valuable well paced information. AND while you were talking, your video also had a stream of information flowing in parallel, so for example when you covered picking a good model to print the waste into, we had already seen a preview example object with a mysterious stripe pattern and two examples of the slug failing before you told us to pick a model unlikely to fail. You dramatically reduced how much you needed to say on the subject, so by the time you said it I already had the info, I just needed the facts summarized and tied together. While that could have been accidental, it caused the density and effectiveness of the information provided to increase by around 100%. The hands down best coverage for Bambu poop reduction after watching so many of them. I'm also critical of accuracy, and people stating facts that are just wrong. No one is 100% right all the time, but sticking to facts, and leaving superstition and bias out was super refreshing. My favorite 3d vloggers before today ALWAYS say something for me to argue with them over. When I say something that is not backed by reliable facts, I wrap it in opinion or rumor to keep it in proper context. Nothing worse than a favorite blogger saying something so cringeworthy you want to unsubscribe. Are you a glass fuser too?
The purge object is really interesting! I've been a P1S combo owner for [checks watch] 53 hours so I'm trying to learn all these techniques, and the things I print most of are flat panels for synthesizers, so I'll be lining up tokens to use instead of coins in supermarket trolleys and leaving them in once the shopping is done. Sticking it to the man with printer poop!
One advice, don't use purge to infill when you have black and white or any extreme colors where the lighter one is used more. You can see the darker infill through the lighter color. I guess one way is to thicken the walls too? 🤷♂️
I wonder why Not to continue to print a little bit more with the filament left in the nozzle after cutting the Filament and changing to new. It could print a little while longer until the Chance of mixing color is to high and then it could flush, but much less or do i get it wrong? Shure there is some calibration needed but as an extra option?....
liked and subbed thanks for straightforward info no shilling also you seem like a cool af person thank you for moming info in a non negative way about stuff i love
Hi, I'm not a bbu labs fan but it's good to see more mature aged and normal everyday reviews & tips like I'm attempting to do on my channel from Australia. So keep it up. 👍🇦🇺
Great video! Love all the ideas on how to reduce filament waste. Like what Alex Swavely mentioned, I would definitely pay attention to the licenses of any model, especially if people attend to sell them. BTW, nice coffee mug at the end, I might know that guy and his awesome doggie 😆
I'd tell you that was product placement but that cup gets a LOT of use for real........
Funny, I have one of those mugs in my videos also. A great dog, Bear and his food burner
I just got my AMS, so I'm glad you included the tips that people "may already know", because I didn't know them. So . . . thanks!
I use .4 purge and it works great! I can print black and white with .4, so give it a shot!
I love this idea!
NAILED! That's a good advice and damn, It would have been usable even if I didn't mix resins and stuff me too!
Just like knobs, handles, and parts you can use. If the color doesn’t matter 👍
I printed some boxes for the gridfinity system.
Now I am thinking. Can it be used as supports? I don’t know 🤷
Thank you! Great ideas. It is wonderful to see the poop going from 40g to 2g.
Awesome video
This is narrowing the gap to get a wife-pass to buy the AMS.
I think that creators like you are absolutely crucial to making concepts like these accessible to newer makers. Can't possibly give enough kudos.

Super helpful advice! I would love to be able to get rid of the prime tower to print into an object some day.
Very helpful. Thank you. I would totally make a fidget or toy to give away than to toss the poop in the filament recycling bucket. Awesome
ok first off I am a Bambu Lab x1 owner and can honestly say these are great tips! and an amazing video as while!

I don't have a 3D printer, I'm end up using a 3D Pen to make my models, I poop alot less, hope that's more healthy 😂
What a great idea to use the wasted material to create something else. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Good video, good info, and engaging video. Thanks
It never occurred to me that you could use some of the poop in an extra model. That's smart!
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
Really good stuff! Well done and Thank You
that is a informative video thanks also for showing my models being printed I hope your show went well.
OMG, I got the 2am flakies -- just put a link to the models in the description. Love that dragon!!
Nobody noticed the big tease? The new A1 behind her? 🤣🤣🤣
When I filmed, I wasn't sure how much of the A1 I could get away with showing. 🤣
Short and sweet, love it!
Great video. Very nicely presented points. Thanks.
I agree! Game pieces and any toy you like stripy or might paint later are really good ideas!
Great video!
I was thinking of making a 1.75mm coil as a flush object, then using that as filament. Not sure if itll work but who knows!
I'd love to see that! Would you do a model in the middle and then a coil around the outside? I wonder how much filament you could cram on the bed with that method. 😃
Great video! Very good tips! Thanks so much!
I use the poop as a sort of packing peanuts 😅 some kids love the poops and find creative ways to play with them or use them in their art projects.
Just started making Frankenstein Legos with this trick ty.
you have a very informative and pleasant teaching ability. Thank you for the tip!
I’m waiting in the new Bambu A1. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you for the advise!!!! I hope to watch your channel grow!!! Keep it up
Thank you so much I printed a 4 color poop basket and used 800 grams of poop it was my first print and I was freaking out over the waste
Smart cookie. Thanks
For private users it would be clever to have a queue of practical objects (for the household) to use as that purge object. It could be:
- adapters (for spools)
- baskets, organizers, brackets that are not to be seen
- functional parts in any way.
- in a way also that test prints most people do for fun.
- parts that are going to be painted
I think all those tips combined should be put together and by the time added with new ones and printed out on paper to each AMS customer by default.
So I’m not sure if I just didn’t understand or I missed it. But how do you use the poop to print other models?
I wish I could upvote you twice. I think another reason to avoid plastic poop is for the environment.
Great tips, I can't wait to get my A1 this week!
Really great video, I will give it a go!
But admittedly, I am lucky, I have a filiment supplier that for $1 will take my waste, and gives me back gram for gram brand new filiment of any colour of my choice.
I just have different box's to tip the different types of waste into. This week I have 5 kg to take back, which means I can replace all the wasted filiment from the pooping in the colours I used.😊
Would you be willing to share your supplier or are they doing this on the DLOW?
@@3DPrintingPiper You would have to be in Perth Western Australia, he is just local here that offeres that service.
I don't have an MMU for the MK4 yet, so haven't played with it. Not surprising that Prusa did it first. 😉
Hey Denise, thanks for the video. There's a lot of good information here. Hope your channel takes off soon. You deserve it
What a great content producer! I'm so glad i stumbled across your channel!
Thanks for the tips very helpful 😊
Great tips!! I’m always needing filament spool clamps, great use for random poop color purge objects! Thank you
Great video, well presented, & quick to the point, love your voice too, calming. Thanks so much ❤🎉
Excelente Video, pude dezasnarme con el reempazo de la torre de purga.
Its great to reduce poop, but the best suggestion i can give is to keep the poop, then melt in silicone molds, really does give great affects, nothing goes to waste in my household
You have a great voice and this video was super helpful - thanks!!
That PC case from cooler master was the first ever case I built in. That was like 15 years ago
7:22 Thanks for the shoutout! My acceptable range of waste is 1-20g, I usually multiply between .65 and .80 depending on filament type and brand. Sometimes it’s super difficult to get the number down when printing with 4 colors unless you want a tonne of flushed objects.
I’ve found that Dragons, Eggs and my Fidget bolts sell best as purged objects 😎✌️and honestly I prefer how they look 😍
Great video btw I’ll definitely forward people on my socials to this as you did such a great job of explaining 😎✌️
Great tips and I don't even have Bambu Labs printer...yet. Thank you.
Awesome tips, thanks Denise!
One advice, don't use purge to infill when you have black and white or any extreme colors where the lighter one is used more. You can see the darker infill through the lighter color. I guess one way is to thicken the walls too? 🤷♂️
Thanks for this! Would be even better if you had them in the description and/or add the video markers to quickly jump from tip to tip. Cheers!
I wonder why Not to continue to print a little bit more with the filament left in the nozzle after cutting the Filament and changing to new. It could print a little while longer until the Chance of mixing color is to high and then it could flush, but much less or do i get it wrong? Shure there is some calibration needed but as an extra option?....
liked and subbed thanks for straightforward info no shilling also you seem like a cool af person thank you for moming info in a non negative way about stuff i love
super informational and easy to listen to. a damn good video with some damn good tips.
i can see the A1 in the background
Hi, I'm not a bbu labs fan but it's good to see more mature aged and normal everyday reviews & tips like I'm attempting to do on my channel from Australia. So keep it up. 👍🇦🇺
Flush to infill hasnt worked well for me. Usually will make the outside look darker on filaments with a higher TD.
The profile is no longer needed, It's now just a feature in the new bamboo studio 1.9 beta
