Feeding Tortoises Prepared Diets

- This video shows all of you how I feed my tortoise army on the days that they get the pre-made diets available from most pet stores. While no single type of pre-fab food should be the staple diet of your tortoise, so long as they are fed a lot of fresh greens, these manufactured diets can be a nice way to add variety to your tortoise's diet.

Your video is awesome
Great video, you didnt get off topic which i think i have a problem with lol. I just bought some of the zoo med grassland diet for my russian, and my russian is insanely picky, hopefully he eats!
Btw subbed :D
did he eat it ? i want mine to start with it
Great video very informative looking to change the diet for my leopards
Good luck!
you sound like the guy from khan academy
do you only feed them once a day?
What is the food called?
Amazing video(those tortoise pellets look like horse poop haha)
Thank you and yes they do but the little(and big) guys like them.
Can Hermann's tortoise eats Grassland foods??
im curious why you use the same knife in each bowl after keeping them separate?? couldn't this potentially cross contaminate and spread something?
Whom do you recommend as a mazuri distributor? Right now I use the LS but would like to add the original to the mix.
Animal Cr8zed, I currently buy directly from the Mazuri website: www.mazuri.com/mazuri/reptile/tortoise/tortoise-diet-25lb .
Many agriculture stores like Tractor Supply sell it or can order it for you. Up in Alaska the Feed Store in a Anchorage was able to order it for me which saved a TON of $ on shipping.
I’d also recommend mixing in the Forest tortoise diet from Zoo Med for ALL species of tortoises especially rapidly growing young ones. As far as prepared diets go it is a little better nutritionally than Mazuri with a nice fiber content.
Unfortunately ounce for ounce it is double the price. I just bought a 50lb bag of it direct from ZooMed, cost $143 with shipping. Where as two 25lb bags from
Mazuri will come in under $100 even with shipping.
Finallly if you order Mazuri, check Camp Kenna’s site, he had a discount code to save 30% on Mazuri direct purchases! I saw that a while ago but may still be active🤔
My Russian tortoise will not eat this stuff. How do I make her eat it?
Try mixing some of her veggies with it. My vet told me to do that with my tortoise.
@@laurenmoscato4395 Is it working ?
@@PSICK1234ikillallracistrolls yeah that should work if it didn’t
What do you think about the muzuri LS
Like most pre-fab diets, LS is great as a supplement, I use it in conjunction with older Mazuri and the ZooMed pellets. I've learned that LS takes A LOT longer to soak so if you're going to use it, give yourself adequate time. the old Mazuri and ZooMed soak up in minutes, I seriously leave the LS soaking for 1/2 hour before i start soaking the other pelleted diets.
Where you located?
The Arizona Desert NW of Phoenix, before this spot, I was living in Alaska in the town of Eagle River, that is where the channel's name came from.
So do they not eat on Saturday?
Matt they don’t get fed very often on Saturdays but there are usually left over leaves from previous feeding and live plants for them to nibble. If they don’t eat the fresh veggies all at once I’ll leave them in the enclosure until they get crispy, then clean them out. Some, like my spider tortoise, seem to prefer day-old greens. But I rarely actively feed them on Saturdays.
Matt, to add to my previous reply, they could be fed 7 days a week, my tortoises outside graze everyday when it’s warm enough to be outside, I just use Saturday as my main cleaning/cage maintenance day. One day without offered food will not harm them.
Do you just give them what they can finish in one sitting or do u give them enough to last them through out the day?
Pam, I’ll give them a bit more than they can finish in a sitting. Thought the day they’ll wander back by and pick at it. It molds quickly so I can only leave it in there until the lights go out.
Do u follow the Mazuri feeding guidelines of 1-4% of their body weight? My 3yrs old male can only seem to finish about 1% of his Mazuri and would just trample and make a mess if i leave out a bit more for him to nibble through out the day.
U should get a sulcata tortoise
Cheyenne, At no point have I ever wanted to own a sulcata tortoise, but as it turns out, one still found its way into my herd. I will be uploading a video on this very tiny addition soon. Be on the lookout for a video titled "Puddles" in the next week or so.
