Hi I really like your video. Can i ask this question why is it that some people say dont feed your tortoise on salads only weeds ? My breeder thats been breeding tortoise for over 20years said you can feed your tortoise on salads? It's really confusing as i feed my 4 month old salad with dandelions.
    Kind regards
    Josh

because salad has little to no nutritional value. it's basically crunchy water, which isn't bad, but leopard tortoises need a high fibre diet.

Do you feed them the brown plantain leaves or the dirty looking ones?

Where can you buy the fibre mix or do you make it yourself?

I bought it on-line... (from shelled warriors)
I've not thought of making it myself... now that's an idea! 😂 I might just have to give that a go! 🐢

I'm in Canada and I am also a gardener as well as a new tortoise owner. You could grow everything indoors for a tort but I think you would have a big light bill to do it. I run a 600 watt HID light to grow in a 4 X 4 foot area. Costs me $29 a month. I'm growing orchids, cactus, bromeliads, geraniums and some other plants in that area. My tortoise gets a bit of over flow from the grow area but no where near what she eats. One of the best foods for torts seems to be plantain. It grows like a weed out doors, because it is a weed, but I have never tried growing it indoors. I will save seeds from wild one this summer and try to grow it indoors next winter. Now I am now sprouting barley seeds. I will try oats and wheat at some point. I am hopeful that sprouted seeds will be good food in the winter. It's not easy giving tortoises a good diet up north.

You can grow anything inside, I grow from collards to Cannabis, just don't cheap out on the light, just like the torts, they need correct lighting to thrive too.

Sure, will do 😊! I'm working on a bunch of videos at the moment (these ones are taking a little longer than normal, but I'm still hoping to post a new video every 1-2 weeks!). Thanks for your support 😊🐢

Don't you worry that dogs might have pee'd on the weed picked from the side of a path? This is what puts me off.
