This is without a doubt the best educational golf channel on UA-cam!!!
Thank you Ed!! Appreciate that!
Good stuff, Eric. I appreciate the content and the help. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks Jeff!
Great job explaining the benefits of this drill. You covered the entire range of outcomes. Now I know FOR SURE this drill is form me.
Thanks! Hope it helps your game!!
LOVE your channel. I am 6'3" and have struggled for YEARS to drop my irons into the slot. I did this drill and immediately started hammering my irons. Before this, I would hit an 8-iron maybe 150. Now, with the right foot back, I'm easily at 165 with compressed contact. My other problem was VERY inconsistent because I would miss the slot so many times. Btw... I've played golf for about 30+ years.
Hell yeah love to hear that!!
Can’t wait to try this drill!
Hope it helps your game, Ryan!
My right knee was flaring out so bad my coach recommended putting my right foot on its toes! Even a more exaggerated version of this. Totally remove it from the equation. Helped me have much better sequencing and get that knee jerk under control. Very helpful drill!
Great to hear this one helped, Jonny!
My swing looked like the bad example with my hands back at parallel. I tried the right foot back and let my right shoulder swing thru. I hit some of my best shots and very consistent. Thanks Steve
Fantastic to hear, Steve!
Great video, my 13-year-old juniors' issue is just that, the foot back drill did not work for him ,he would still get on the toes of the rear foot early and collapse the trail side , only thing that worked was ,wedge under the trail foot heel ,and felling that the trail foot stays down the entire swing , need more videos on this as keeping that trail foot down cleans up lots of transition issues for juniors .
Thanks Ruben! Love that drill!
Is the set-up as such: Club face square to target-Right foot back-Hips/Shoulders aimed slightly right as feet?
Hey Jonathan! Yes....but I would just have club face point slight right of the flag stick.....where you want the ball to start.
Say we want a 3 yard draw
aim club face 3 yards right of flagstick to start the ball there
Everything else yes but those aren't RULES....you're allowed to tweak to find what works best
Good drill, many years ago a pro had me do a back to target drill which isn't his exaggerated due to my wicked slice at the time. Your drill with a “hit hard stop fast drill” from Rob Cheny works well together.
Thanks! Agreed!!
You did it again EG!!! Thank you King!!
Shawn Clement showed this over a year ago, but not as drill. He called it the diagonal stance. I start using it because as I aged i couldn’t get a full turn on the backswing. I think he has a full series on this.
Love it!
It works great for increasing backswing rotation!
Great video! Do you swing along your toe line or target line while doing this?
I would go toe line on way back and then toe line back to ball and then around to the left so shaft exits under lead shoulder in follow through
Nice video Eric
Thank you!
Hi Eric. Nice drill/action! Hard to see if shoulders are also slightly closed and position of clubface to swingpath. Looks a bit like a S&T drill they call the Harold shot. Is it same stance for all clubs? Do you have ball position at sternum for irons and presumably forward for driver? Cheers from Canberra Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Richard!
I would say shoulders are closed SOME but obviously less than feet here.
Stance for this drill would be same for all clubs yep
Thats correct on ball position
Aside from this drill here's how I would approach ball position and stance throughout the bag: ua-cam.com/video/sJd-0eEQU0w/v-deo.html&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGJhbGwgcG9zaXRpb24%3D
Would this be a good way for me to play? I have a big stomach and I often feel like it blocks my arms from a good inside path. Or sometimes my elbow hits the side of my stomach and the clubface rockets into a closed position - pull hook.
so I suffer from the exact issue mainly stated. Do you just do this as a drill at the range or do you recommend setting up like this during normal play?
Yep, you can just play like this with all clubs
Or slowly work back to normal 1 inch at a time...whatever you hit the best from you can play with
That's gold 👍
Thanks Jonothan!
Hi do I need to adjust my ball position when I do this drill? @cogornoGolf
Nope....ball under lead ear with 8 iron a good place to live
this fixed my swing! but now do i have to keep swinging with right foot back or is there a way to transition back to square feet position without losing the smooth swing?
Love to hear it!
You can just play like this with all clubs
Or slowly work back to normal 1 inch at a time...whatever you hit the best from you can play with👍
Would you suggest doing that on the course? What would be the downside? Thanks
You can try!
If someone wanted to do this I would just test a big enough sample size with their normal vs this.....see which works best....and use that
As mentioned in the video - yes it feels a lot of upper body ..how do u then get your lower body into it during your regular swing ?
Hey there!
This video is for players with an OVERactive lower body...so when they feel MORE upper body and LESS lower body with the feels they get from this drill, that will typically help them find neutral without really having to consciously think about it.
Hope this is helpful!
When I do this drill my ball striking is amazingly good (especially with my long irons), but I don’t understand how to implement the movement to my square stance?Thinking of just continue playing with a closed stance.
Yep you can just play like this
Or slowly work back to normal 1 inch at a time
whatever you hit the best from you can play with
can you play your irons and woods like this ? i do this with my driver but its the longest club in the bag . can draw my irons but i have consistency problems of impact . the last time out at the range i tried pulling down on the club to start swing and i was making good contact but balls were slicing .
Yep, you can just play like this with all clubs
Or slowly work back to normal 1 inch at a time...whatever you hit the best from you can play with

I actually play my driver with this stance, not just a drill.
Excellent! Lots of players do that as well---good strategy for most!
Aoa was 5.9 all day in a fit/ lesson
My one buddy plays a crazy closed stance, but draws it like crazy..
I went from down 5.9 to 0.9 AOA just by closing stance and little stronger grip
Nice improvement there!
Where do I get the live view golf

Let us know if you have any questions!
Does this setup help with shallowing the golf club? Or is this drill not for that?
Hey there!
Dropping the trail foot back CAN help to lay the foundation for shallowing the club shaft and having the swing path more from IN to OUT...but the pieces in the following video would be the MAIN components to shallowing the shaft:

Let us know if you have any questions after watching!
Seen this one!
Not too long ago :)
Great one for you Bill---any many of us!!
Good look Eric but seems counter to previous lessons with movement of hips toward the target. Yet it seems that hips do catch up. The idea looks great but what am I missing here?- Be good-Russ
Thanks Russ! If you watch back the video a few times and pay attention to the minor details Steve mentions it will explain WHAT and for WHO this would be good for :)
Thanks for the viewing tip. It clears everything up. You really do a terrific job. -@@CogornoGolf
Appreciate that Russ!
When does right heel come off the ground
Won't be the same for everyone
But generally speaking like just prior to or through impact
I like to do this drill but trail foot on the toe from the start.
Good way to do it Travis!
Should you use this for ALL your clubs (except putter)?
Yep, you can just play like this with all clubs (don't need to with putter)
Or slowly work back to normal 1 inch at a time...whatever you hit the best from you can play with
Can you play like this? I see Rocco mediate sets up like this. Any reason not to?
You for sure can!!
Sounds like my last lesson with Steve!
:) A good one for us all to have in the mix!
Feels like a personal attack 🤣🤣🤣
:)
Stack and tilt - bowler drill
Yep!
Lol His explanation at the beginning is me to a T
:) This one would be a good one to utilize!
@@CogornoGolf I’ll add it to My never ending list! Lol
Sorry guys, but sound levels are too low. Great video but need more volume.
Thanks Kev!
If you look at Matt Kuchar, he's always got a very closed stance
Yes he does!
@@CogornoGolf if straying away from the supposed norm works, then do it.
Good shank fixer also
Definitely can help!
So why is this just a drill? Why not always play set up like this?
Probably because the intent of the drill is to restrict the trail hip. You don’t want to restrict anything in your actual swing but you want things moving efficiently and trail hip firing out towards ball is not efficient. But there’s nothing that says you can’t do this drill for your swing!
Plenty of people do. Mostly, the old guys that beat the pants off of us young guys lol
I play like that, it works 😊
That one guy who pushes the swing stick does “rocco”
you definitely could Stanley! We have lots of our students play with a closed stance!
🥱
Now the trick is to transfer these movements to a normal stance. I find myself reverting to my old bad habits…
For sure....slow and steady
