    Awesome. I just purchased a Ride1Up Prodigy XR. All of the bicycle parts are off the shelf items that I can maintain. The Brose motor had me worried though about repair after warranty. I can do this belt change. For anything else on this motor, I can just send it to you guys.

      This video might seem scary but in all honesty Brose is one of my favorites because it is a very well performing motor in all areas. Quiet, intuitive, powerful... Sure send it on over when it gives you trouble.

    Thanks for the videos! Was able to fix my turbo vado with your belt kit with very little effort. Really appreciate all the detail you included, made the overall job very easy. I think the hardest part was putting the cowling back onto the bike :)

Oh tell me about it with the plastic! We pull our hair out because of those things! And forget about it if you accidentally loose or strip one of the bolts! sometimes hard to find replacements.

    I would use the petroleum jelly on the shaft seal too. I use it on any rubber seal or gasket to keep them elastic and pliable.

    Thanks for the great videos Michael. I have 1,200 miles on my 2022 Turbo Levo Gen 3. The motor seems to run like new. I live in Colorado and have have been able to keep it away from puddles and creek crossings, so the worst it's subject to is dirt and dust. When would you recommend preventative maintenance?

    • @ebikemotorrepair
      @ebikemotorrepair  Рік тому

      Good for you, Steve. Colorado is a pretty dreamy state for riding. I would say some of our customer base like to have an extra motor that they swap out and have overhauled every year and just make sure to stay ahead of any breakage. But most of our customers fall into a category where we just kind of fix it when things start breaking.

      Hey Levi thanks for your comment. Actually, Panasonic are way simpler motors than the Brose. They’re very basic inside. Almost done necessary to do a video. However, if you are having problems with a Panasonic this is something that we offer Repair services for. Check out our homepage and you can open a service ticket and send the motor to us. Or feel free to message us with your problem and we can try and help you troubleshoot. www.ebikemotorrepair.com

    This is awesome 👍 ...are the 2.2 motors any different?

    • @ebikemotorrepair
      @ebikemotorrepair  4 місяці тому +2

      there are 2 main differences in the brose legacy. All aluminum models (S/T) are mainly the same and all magnesium models (S-Mag) are mainly the same as well. The only differences between those models are the improvements they made on belts and software/firmware. But mechanically they are all basically identical. Also the only main difference between all aluminum models and all S-Mag models are the cases and therefore gaskets are different between those models.

    Is the screw on the top the only thing that sets the tension on the screw or is there a spring aswell? I'd say if that screw all that tensions it regularly setting it would help the belt last much longer?

    • @ebikemotorrepair
      @ebikemotorrepair  Місяць тому +1

      The set screw is indeed the only thing that sets the tension on the belt. Resetting it might actually cause some issues because both from the factory, and after an overhaul, there is locked type, applied to the set screw, which keeps it in place. Readjusting it would require you to clean the threads and apply new Loctite and would likely get you within such a small fraction of meter difference that would be negligible. Plus belts don’t typically fail from wearing down from fatigue. They just eventually break or fall apart. They don’t necessarily get smaller in the overall material.

There’s usually a bit of lag time between motor manufacturers date and when they make it into bikes.

    how often you have to replace the belt on Brose? the standard one or reinforced

    • @ebikemotorrepair
      @ebikemotorrepair  Рік тому +1

      It’s pretty subjective honestly. Depends on rider, riding conditions, etc. Plus there’s always minor little differences in manufacturing process that can affect about life. But, all of that aside a typical range of life on the belt is about 3000 miles plus or -500 miles. However, we’ve seen some customers go as much as 10,000 miles. We also have some customers that have Bros mounted on passenger and cargo bikes that only see about 1500 miles. To answer your question about the difference between the older belts and the newer belts we tend to see between 30 and 50% more life out of the carbon fiber belts.

    • @ebikemotorrepair

      @@VovanCBR I’d say that’s a bit excessive. My opinion is fix when they break. But I suppose if you want to buy a belt kit to have on hand it would be smart. However keep this in mind… belts don’t slip.. so if you ever experience this it’s going to need to bearing replaced which will likely be a good thing to overhaul at that point. We have your back either way. Also belts and clutch bearings have approximately similar lifespan. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for engaging.

    and god knows why they need to use a belt when a geared setup is going to last forever longer.

      🤣🤣 I hear ya! We repair tons of brose motors and they are definitely prone to failure. I ride anything with 2 wheels myself so don’t discriminate. But when my ebike works it’s a ton of fun. I’m of the opinion that the current industry is evolving and I’m sure we’ll see improvements. But damn… they are a blast! I’m a former MX racer too. I’m used to wrecking ICE drives. So familiar Territory for me.
      You’re correct though… gear drives fail far less than the brose belt drive. But I will tell you what.. that motor is super intuitive compared to all the gear driven models. Like Bosch, Yamaha, etc..
      That torque spec you referred to is important because too much torque and you destroy the planetary gear cluster (nylon) too loose and you destroy the belt. So that’s the purpose at least.
      If you ever decide to get an ebike the Bosch is pretty on point. We service all of them and aren’t married to any particular motor but the industry definitely has tons of room to evolve.
