This is the best video explaining, from start to finish, razor clamming! I have watched dozens of videos and no other video explains so succinctly, with as thorough information explaining every step, yet very simple to process. Thank you so much for this! I can't wait to go clamming soon 😊
Thank You!!! I'm looking forward to digging some more clams as well.
I immediately regret watching this...I'm so hungry now. Awesome video, very thorough.
Great video! My Dad introduced me to razor clam digging, cleaning, and eating 60 years ago. I’m happy to see that I’m doing it right! And yes, fresh fried razor clams are the BEST!
That is awesome! Have had many good memories of razor clamming with my Dad and brothers. Joanie & Dean OCIC
Thanks so much for this great video! My mouth watered from the time they hit the hot oil. I'm so inspired to give this a try.
Thank-you for your detailed info! Explaining the different digging techniques, how-to clean, prepare and cook! This is so useful. You are, "Above and Beyond". You are appreciated here.
Glad it was helpful!, Kurt. OCIC
I have to stop watching these videos on an empty stomach.
Good stuff!
Watching you fry the clams made my mouth water,...yum!
I haven't dug for clams since I was a kid, but I'll be there next month to get my 15. Thanks for the video.
Wow I never new that's how they found clams. That's pretty cool!
I like that you guys show the different techniques.
It is fun to watch people clamming, isn't it?
OCIC
I smiled at your reward for cleaning each clam. Yum!
:) Me too,Raven Dean OCIC
Great video, topped off with some great eats.
Very nice!
Great video guys! Can't wait for clam season!!
We are happy to report that extremely low tides this coming weekend here in our area will once again have us pounding on the sand. Thanks for your + comment. OCIC
I love the way you clean your clams. I havent experienced this yet, but I am planning a trip to WA state next year. I hope it will be during the razor clamming season!! Thanks so much for your video!

OCIC

+Gerald Velasco Thanks so much for your FEEDback, Gerald.
OCIC
This was a great video. Can't wait to see more!
More to come! Glad you enjoyed it. We are going clamming on Wednesday (a -2.1 tide!) And again on the weekend. OCIC

Awesome video! They look so tasty, never been clamming but I'm going to try it out this season.
Thanks, and let's hope the season opens without incident.
OCIC
Very helpful video! Thank you!
Now, if only razor clam season would reopen here along the North Coast... Has been shut down for 3 years now, due to high toxin levels. (The ocean water has been too warm)
Thanks for sharing this, really enjoy your vids.
You are welcome, Daniel.
OCIC
I'd wait for low tide and look for the holes
Hey Dean and Joanie 👍👍 awesome video. Those look so good. I like the way you cleaned them. No precooking! 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋🙏🏻🙏🏻
Fred, Razor clams are my all time favorite seafood.... Clam season has been closed going on five years now, due to high toxin levels. I'm chomping at the bit to go dig some. Someday soon, I hope...
Nice video. I really enjoy your channel.
Classic clam catch, clean, cook. Thanks. Best
Thanks for your FEEDback, Tom
OCIC
Sir you are a pro indeed! Enough said
Thank you, Solim.
OCIC
wish I grew up best friends with this family!
tropics10001 Ah, what a sweet compliment...thanks. Joanie OCIC
Tried it as you do them and eat them on a slice of bread with a bit of salt lemon and black pepper. It was awesome. Nice video :)
Joe Swanson Thanks, Joe. So is sounds like you enjoyed what we'd call a Clamwhich! lol
Joanie OCIC
Man those look good!
Awesome video! They looked delicious!
Thank you, Miguel
OCIC
Awesome lesson! I’m on my way out west!
Have fun! Just be sure to head to Oregon & Washington... Razor clamming is currently shut down in Northern California at Clam Beach, near McKinleyville and at Crescent City, due to toxin levels.
Very cool video! A big hug from Brazil.
Thanks, Jose.
OCIC
Omg, it looks delicious!!!
OCIC
Very good video! Thanks
Tompa SE You are welcome. OCIC
Oh my god, I may have never tried seafood in my life but that looks delicious!
Hope you get to try some soon.
OCIC
I know this is a old vid but I’m stuck watching clam digging vids instead of out on the beach since the DA levels has WA clam digging shut down. Great vids keep up the good work
We're into our 4th year of razor clam shutdown, here in Northern California... Looking so forward to digging them again.
only thing missing was the feast! Cool vid guys.
I really enjoyed this video. I just wish I didn't watch it so late at night. :/ Made me hungry!
I made linguine (fresh) and clams. Onion, garlic, olive oil, S + P. Deelish. Your cleaning description is very helpful. Thanks.
Also I make a Vietnamese soup, with rice noodles, coconut milk, ginger garlic onion, and the best is with homemade shrimp stock from shells. You like it!
Thanks for the reply and sharing your favorite recipes. They both sound, and I'm sure, taste GReat! OCIC
i lovvvve you guy very educational and I love nature
Thhanks, Caroline. We LOVE the great outdoors too!
Thanks for the great video!
+Island Dive Services You are welcome
OCIC
Great video Dean!
Thanks!

The clam whisperer
I liked your video. Interesting, I live on the northeast coast and our razor clams look totally different. They're shaped like a closed straight razor used at a barber shop.
+Mea Woodsman And boy, can you slice a finger when you are digging down in the sand to retrieve one! Thanks for watching. OCIC
When I saw the thumbnail, it looked like fried frog legs that hadn't been separated. lol
Bob Papadopoulos i
excellent video, thanks.
You are welcome. Glad you liked it! We are into our crab season here now.
Great video!
Thanks, William
OCIC
I can almost smell them and my mouth is watering! Yummy 😋
Glad to hear your "smellivision" was working, Ve Vee
OCIC
That was awesome. Made my mouth all watery. To bad you cant do this stuff in germany. Greetings guys
Greetings to you, Arzual. Guess you can't get Pacific clams there without paying a whole lot for them. Thanks for the comment. OCIC
WOW! Just WOW!
Thanks, x 2.
OCIC
great vid , you guys know how to live !
dan moyer Thank you, Dan. We certainly do enjoy Life in the great outdoors.
Wonderful ! Thanks
Ismail Hassan You are welcome, and hope you enjoy eating them.
I love it ! , Pls. What is the Name of this Town on Pacific?
Ismail Hassan Crescent City, California
I’m dying here ! I’d eat a mountain of those ! Yum !
Thanks, Launi. Have been on a break from clamming recently due to F&G restrictions. Can't wait to start digging again! OCIC
Looks like fun. Omgosh!
Jane, The camping and clam digging were the BEST!
OCIC
I've never heard of Pacific razor clams until yesterdays His & Hers vid! Now I cant wait to try them! I wonder if there is a place to get them in Houston? Great video :)
There may be a place, but the price and the freshness will probably be much different. Let us know if you find some there.
OCIC
I didn't think that dude at the end would be able to catch it with his bare hand. That was great, lol. O'l Shovelhand Mcgee
I couldn’t reply to your question under my comment. Selling smelt has been part of the smelting tradition for as long as I can remember around here. Posting sales usually go up in FB, word of mouth, and way back when Craigslist was still popular. Lots of locals will sell right out of their house.
I would love to try this
Do so, and share the results with us.
OCIC
I'm surprised. That looked delicious after it was fried. I would love to try it. Maybe I'll ask my step dad.
We hope he says, "YES!" OCIC
Yumm! I love razor clams but i cant seem to find any down in so cal, i live close to malibu n venice beach n have never found any here, are there any in southern California ? Any tips would be awesome
Love your videos spe ially when you guys catch n cook , thnx for sharing great recipes
Can you guys do another one of these razor clam videos showing when the best time to go looking for these guys? Also if its possible to give us tips to where you can find these? I've never seen them in so cal
Hmm now I want something fried and crispy!
A breaded and fried pacific razor is legit the missing ingredient in a BLT. It catapults a so-so sandwich into top tier among the likes of Cubans and whatnot. Sooo delicious.
It sure sounds good, Michael. OCIC
Great video--bon appetit!
thanks, Rick
Awesome look good
Thank you 😋
Nice vid, just wondering why none of your clam diggers was wearing gloves? When my friends&family go razor clamming here in Washington State we all wear nice fitting rubber gloves. That ocean water can be freezing at times.
+w ching You are right, the water can be so cold. You may notice in the webisode I do wear a glove on my shovel hand, but find I need to feel for the shell (carefully, of course, as they are "razor" sharp) with the other free of a glove. OCIC
Do you not use the brown stuff between the body and digger? I didn't see it after full cleaning up.
No, that part can be toxic...
oh boy this in a sandwich.....
Very tasty indeed and they look like breaded chicken fillet.
could you find some razor clams around St.Augustine Florida? because I'm going there in 5 days for my vacation
I am only familiar with the West Coast, but you should Google the area you are going to and see. Also find out about fishing license requirements and legal size limits.
OCIC
Miss my days of living in Oregon and going to the coast for Razor clams ... wahhhhhh
One of my favorite things to do, clamming.
OCIC
Can you do this every single day all year. Yum
+SuperDagod1 We do try.....but clams are only in season certain times of the year, and we've used up our supply in the freezer. Currently, there is a ban on clamming here due to elevated toxins in them. OCIC
Exactly how my fam has always done it - start to finish, except we don't bother with tenderizing the neck, and we just dredge from egg into flour with some salt & pepper, no breadcrumbs.
Sounds good to me.
OCIC
very good . went calming as a child but a different kind ours were round in New Jersey then we were told buy the state that they were contaminated and we could not eat them. what state are you in and do you need a license??? when is the season??? I'd like to plan a vacation around this
We haven't been allowed to razor clam in over 2 years now, because of harmful levels of domoic acid, an algae like toxin,
due to warm water....
LOL, loved the "smell-o-vision" comment, looks delicious. What is the daily limit?
20 clams...
Jesus. That looks fun and tasty.
We think so, fun for sure and tasty if you like clams
OCIC
Looks yummy 👍
Thanks, Dawne!
OCIC
I want my clams only with lemon.. thanks
Cool never seen a razor clam can they be made into like blackened oysters?
Mostly done as we showed -- shelled. My Mom makes a variation like you asked about with a smaller type of clam known as a Martha Washington.
Wish you had shown more and talked about the "show". ;o(
Yum yum ...
Yep, one of my favorite foods. OCIC
My best time was 15 clams in 15 min. They were all around me! Copalis beach!!!
😋
are there any limited amount of clams you can get from ocean, because i heard in australian local people can only get 6 lobster a day.
+Sophia Qi Our area allows 20 per day... Sounds like a lot, but there are only a handful of tides each year that are low enough to expose the clam beds.
dam that looks good
My favorite way to fix razors.
Dean OCIC
Hello, are you still active on your channel? We went last weekend for 2 night digs. Washington coast. So prolific they may as well have jumped into our clam bags!
We are hoping the season opens this year... Has been shut down for the last three seasons, due to high toxin levels. Preliminary tests look good so far. Razor clams are my all-time favorite seafood!!! If we get shut out again, I'm heading North!!!
outdoorcastironcook Hello hello friends😀I’m so happy you got back to me. We dug in Washington State, out of Ocean Shores. You should have been there. Absolutely no wind, crystal clear skies and night 2 we watched the orange crescent moon sink into the ocean. It was fabulous. I surmise you are in Oregon. We have many many digs happening up here. Come for a mini vacation 😀We stayed at the Shilo Inn, first time at that hotel. $86 a night for ocean view and a jetted bathtub lol. Need I say more? Just sharing info to fellow clambers. Booked through Hotels.com. Thank you so much for responding and may your next dig be bountiful 🦋💜
Better than the Dungeness Crabs? No way. If so, I'll make those razor clams tops on my bucket list.
Dean thinks so, and he's even been known to say it is better than Abalone! Joanie OCIC
Would these clams live on the east coast? I'd like to get some here!
I'm not sure... I've seen something similar in Britain, but they are more tubular shaped. But these are PACIFIC razor clams, so on the east coast they'd be a different type.
Is there a open and closed season on these?Must be with that many people after them.
They alternate areas each year and it's usually open year round, with advisories posted when the water gets too warm, allowing toxin build ups... However, given the current situation, we have not been allowed to clam in over two years now. Closed due to high levels of domoic acid content, from algae blooms, or so the state says... (Some fishermen think it might be from radiation levels)
Hm. Interesting. Maybe on the west coast, yeah. Lot's of scuttlebutt about radiation due to Fukushima. Oh, yeah. Thanks!
You guys live in crescent city,ca, besides clamming what do you do for a living down...???
Sheng Xiong We live off the bounty of the north coast.
In MA, we just pour salt on the hole and they pop right out
God Jesus looks delicious
nice
+Viktor Bukarev thanks, Victor.
OCIC
using bacon grease to fry adds to the amazing flavor to the razor clam.... That's my familys take on it anyway...
..sounds like the real deal...gotta try!
Heck yes. That's how we used to have'm. We'd eat them for breakfast cooked in the bacon fat. Clams, bacon and eggs. And the next morning it'd be perch, bacon and eggs. :)
All of it sounds amazing! I'm so annoyed I'm stuck in Kansas haha
I'm moving to the Pacific coast, f**k central Mexico!
You able to eat the whole thing too without cleaning it ?
+Quantum Aquatic The clams are cleaned first, shells discarded. OCIC
What type of oil did you use?
Olive oil. If you click on the "Show More" below the video description on our webisodes you will find our recipes there. OCIC
they look like frog legs when you put them in the pan lol.
