    Fried Pacific Razor Clams
    Clean and butterfly razor clam.
    Tenderize the neck of the clam by pounding with a mallet.
    Dip clam in scrambled egg and seasoned bread crumb mixture.
    Fry in hot olive oil over medium high heat for no more than 2-3 minutes.

    This is the best video explaining, from start to finish, razor clamming! I have watched dozens of videos and no other video explains so succinctly, with as thorough information explaining every step, yet very simple to process. Thank you so much for this! I can't wait to go clamming soon 😊

    Great video! My Dad introduced me to razor clam digging, cleaning, and eating 60 years ago. I’m happy to see that I’m doing it right! And yes, fresh fried razor clams are the BEST!

      Now, if only razor clam season would reopen here along the North Coast... Has been shut down for 3 years now, due to high toxin levels. (The ocean water has been too warm)

      Fred, Razor clams are my all time favorite seafood.... Clam season has been closed going on five years now, due to high toxin levels. I'm chomping at the bit to go dig some. Someday soon, I hope...

    Tried it as you do them and eat them on a slice of bread with a bit of salt lemon and black pepper. It was awesome. Nice video :)

    I know this is a old vid but I’m stuck watching clam digging vids instead of out on the beach since the DA levels has WA clam digging shut down. Great vids keep up the good work

    I made linguine (fresh) and clams. Onion, garlic, olive oil, S + P. Deelish. Your cleaning description is very helpful. Thanks.
    Also I make a Vietnamese soup, with rice noodles, coconut milk, ginger garlic onion, and the best is with homemade shrimp stock from shells. You like it!

    I liked your video. Interesting, I live on the northeast coast and our razor clams look totally different. They're shaped like a closed straight razor used at a barber shop.

    I've never heard of Pacific razor clams until yesterdays His & Hers vid! Now I cant wait to try them! I wonder if there is a place to get them in Houston? Great video :)

    I couldn’t reply to your question under my comment. Selling smelt has been part of the smelting tradition for as long as I can remember around here. Posting sales usually go up in FB, word of mouth, and way back when Craigslist was still popular. Lots of locals will sell right out of their house.

    Yumm! I love razor clams but i cant seem to find any down in so cal, i live close to malibu n venice beach n have never found any here, are there any in southern California ? Any tips would be awesome

    A breaded and fried pacific razor is legit the missing ingredient in a BLT. It catapults a so-so sandwich into top tier among the likes of Cubans and whatnot. Sooo delicious.

    Nice vid, just wondering why none of your clam diggers was wearing gloves? When my friends&family go razor clamming here in Washington State we all wear nice fitting rubber gloves. That ocean water can be freezing at times.

      +w ching You are right, the water can be so cold. You may notice in the webisode I do wear a glove on my shovel hand, but find I need to feel for the shell (carefully, of course, as they are "razor" sharp) with the other free of a glove. OCIC

    could you find some razor clams around St.Augustine Florida? because I'm going there in 5 days for my vacation

      I am only familiar with the West Coast, but you should Google the area you are going to and see. Also find out about fishing license requirements and legal size limits.

      +SuperDagod1 We do try.....but clams are only in season certain times of the year, and we've used up our supply in the freezer. Currently, there is a ban on clamming here due to elevated toxins in them. OCIC

    Exactly how my fam has always done it - start to finish, except we don't bother with tenderizing the neck, and we just dredge from egg into flour with some salt & pepper, no breadcrumbs.

    very good . went calming as a child but a different kind ours were round in New Jersey then we were told buy the state that they were contaminated and we could not eat them. what state are you in and do you need a license??? when is the season??? I'd like to plan a vacation around this

      We haven't been allowed to razor clam in over 2 years now, because of harmful levels of domoic acid, an algae like toxin,
      due to warm water....

      Mostly done as we showed -- shelled. My Mom makes a variation like you asked about with a smaller type of clam known as a Martha Washington.

    are there any limited amount of clams you can get from ocean, because i heard in australian local people can only get 6 lobster a day.

      +Sophia Qi Our area allows 20 per day... Sounds like a lot, but there are only a handful of tides each year that are low enough to expose the clam beds.

      We are hoping the season opens this year... Has been shut down for the last three seasons, due to high toxin levels. Preliminary tests look good so far. Razor clams are my all-time favorite seafood!!! If we get shut out again, I'm heading North!!!

      outdoorcastironcook Hello hello friends😀I’m so happy you got back to me. We dug in Washington State, out of Ocean Shores. You should have been there. Absolutely no wind, crystal clear skies and night 2 we watched the orange crescent moon sink into the ocean. It was fabulous. I surmise you are in Oregon. We have many many digs happening up here. Come for a mini vacation 😀We stayed at the Shilo Inn, first time at that hotel. $86 a night for ocean view and a jetted bathtub lol. Need I say more? Just sharing info to fellow clambers.       I'm not sure... I've seen something similar in Britain, but they are more tubular shaped. But these are PACIFIC razor clams, so on the east coast they'd be a different type.

    Is there a open and closed season on these?Must be with that many people after them.

      They alternate areas each year and it's usually open year round, with advisories posted when the water gets too warm, allowing toxin build ups... However, given the current situation, we have not been allowed to clam in over two years now. Closed due to high levels of domoic acid content, from algae blooms, or so the state says... (Some fishermen think it might be from radiation levels)

      Heck yes. That's how we used to have'm. We'd eat them for breakfast cooked in the bacon fat. Clams, bacon and eggs. And the next morning it'd be perch, bacon and eggs. :)
