I first came here in 2013. Such a haunting, beautiful and timeless tune. It can, and has made me weep. 10 Years later and only 234k views? Our civilization is lost.
Patty Griffin is underrated, both as a songwriter and as a singer. She can reach that special spot, somewhere in the inner ear and in the heart of the brain. What a great song. Also, great work on the resonator. Love it all.
Music, when done right, is an experience which the soul recognizes and the heart craves. People talk about what Robert is doing for Patty, it is clear to see what Patty has done for Robert. Beautiful music.
There are some nights when Patty Griffin is one of the most gifted, important and deeply, deeply singer songwriters alive. I'm glad she got out of the Band of Joy to return to where she belongs and what we need her for. It's fine to dabble and to dally but this - this is what she was born to do. Thanks Robert for allowing her to swim back in her sea and giving her some of your power in this song.
Robert allowed her?? More like he was uncomfortable playing husband, singing folk songs. He needed a beer. They were way too opposite in every perspective.
I will never understand how Patty is not a bigger artist. I am heavily biased being in Austin, I think it boils down to not being the best interviewee. Her music is amazing, her interviews are quite boring... and this coming from someone whom loves her.
Aww,,,Roberts belly is cute. And Patty doesn't need him there, her talent stands alone. I like seeing two people who share their love and their art. We could all be so blessed.
Very soothing, and someone said it is not good back up singing...he is evidently a true musican singing in many formats and not a prima dona...This talented lady is his friend and I think the collaboration is excellent
I was first a fan of Robert Plant and then I discovered Patty Griffin in the soundtrack for Elizabethtown and have followed her since. I felt her contribution to The Band of Joy album was minimalist for all her talent, but now what she has done and his minimalist contribution is like a tribute to her abilities and it blows me away. No ego, love after all!!!
I just recently discovered Patty Griffin and am so glad I took the time to listen to her catalog, because she is now in my top-five -- profoundly connected to her musical expression.
Ohio Meet me in the evening, where the river is low Meet me on the waters of the Ohio No lies, no lies, the river is a river, not a line My blood is the water and it's darker and deeper than time If the hounds are howling, then you cannot hide My friend, I will meet you on the other side No lines, no lies, the river is a river, not a lie My love is the water and it's stronger and deeper than time Meet me 'neath the moon, under the singing tree If you are the first, stay there and wait for me If no one comes by morning and the sun is a-rising red If no one comes by morning, please forgive me, my friend for I am dead...
This video was sent to me last night, and I can't stop listening to it❤❤. It is hauntingly beautiful and sad if one listens to the lyrics. My generous sender: thank you for ever love❤❤❤❤
This album is a jewel. A dream team of musicians with Luther and Cody Dickinson. Many blessings to Patty Griffin as she remembers her father in such a beautiful way.
GREAT song!!!! And I think Robert Plant does a superb job accomanying Patty...they have GREAT chemistry together! And have been singing together for a while. I think she dominates this song like she should and Robert doing great in background vocals! I have seen them perform live together and they are AWESOME!!!!
Well said. Patty Griffin is one of the greatest song writers that has ever existed. Her energy sequesters the moment and that's all she needs - just Patty and her guitar - not a video that takes the moment away from the song.
and in GA i have found a Singing Tree. acoustic sweet spot in a nook valley, all the blackbirds sit there to sing, and the bounce comes back to them. between two very old churches in Kirkwood. magic happens.
Long time coming! I waited so long for this album! Loved Downtown Church but it wasn't Patty's music. This is just a dream. Great singing, beautiful haunting melodies, deep lyrics, and that soulful unique voice. Heaven.
I didn't listen to Patty for a few years..... then discover this trippy masterpiece! It's fun to see how her music has evolved since living with ghosts. Thanks Patty and Robert!
I consider me bloody self a rather astute perlinquinator of fine audio, especially from days of yore, but never had I heard this, never before....LOVE IT, MARY!!!
Un Friggin Believable! All this talent spewing from one small body? Guitaress. Singer. Songwriter. Arranger. And a chick? I may be forced to change some of my prejudices.the Radman
Rad not sure why you think or thought that women can't create music as well as men. But your right Patty is all you said and more. Funny thing is for me the album American Kid this song is from is probably her worst of 10 albums.
This song is just haunting, but in the best sense. The imagery along with the words and the music paint a perfect picture of situation. I love music that actually makes you think.
I hope they made it across the Ohio River and on to their freedom. Thousands escaped slavery via the Underground Railroad, but thousands of others who risked their lives never made it.
When this video started, I thought it was going to be animation and hearken back to the Rain music video, which is so incredibly good, but when they mixed in those weird shots of Patty and Robert standing next to each other all 1980s style, I thought it was a music video from Beavis and Butthead or something. Great song, though, and love Patty.
I never imagined this beautiful song could speak of an underground raillroad... the comments here lead me to wonder... My Great-GrandMother contributed to their safe-haven... what it must have been to travail a foreign land knowing only arrows and secret directions...

Couldna said it better!
Feel it, Brother!!!
Robert allowed her?? More like he was uncomfortable playing husband, singing folk songs. He needed a beer. They were way too opposite in every perspective.
@@captinbeyond You are 100% right. He left her to go back to England .
Why doesn't this have millions of views? Thank you Patty & Robert & everyone involved in creating this masterpiece.

Timeless song
Ohio
Meet me in the evening, where the river is low
Meet me on the waters of the Ohio
No lies, no lies, the river is a river, not a line
My blood is the water and it's darker and deeper than time
If the hounds are howling, then you cannot hide
My friend, I will meet you on the other side
No lines, no lies, the river is a river, not a lie
My love is the water and it's stronger and deeper than time
Meet me 'neath the moon, under the singing tree
If you are the first, stay there and wait for me
If no one comes by morning and the sun is a-rising red
If no one comes by morning, please forgive me, my friend for I am dead...
Thank you Shaun McGee

This is very beautiful. The video and the harmony kind of remind me of The Staves, "White winter trees"
What a beautiful song.
It just feels like this song is deserving of a more grandiose video.

Great song...well done.
MrAjax246, Although I really like Plant and think he sounds great... "Can't he be famous somewhere else?," is a funny line. You rock!

THERE VOICES ARE TWO BIRDS TAKING TO WING IN THE BRIGHTEST SKY .X
How much of this album does he feature on?
he's doing backups, she's supposed to overpower him. it's not a duet.
I never imagined this beautiful song could speak of an underground raillroad... the comments here lead me to wonder... My Great-GrandMother contributed to their safe-haven... what it must have been to travail a foreign land knowing only arrows and secret directions...
The lantern being pulled to the top of the flagpole meaning it was safe for the slaves to cross the Ohio too the Rankin House.
Really
Shivers... Yes thank you! Deep Symbolism in this song.
And the word for the day is........repeat.
And again......
I adore her. The video seems kind of 80s though.
What guitar tuning is this song in?
Parker Sloan With the drone, I suspect it may be the DADGAD tuning. I’ll check it out when I get chance.
Patty uses D5 tuning (DADDAD) in Rain. I suspect it may be that, but I will check it out to make sure.
