Best tutorial I’ve seen for bias binding ! You cover everything from A -Z ! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years but I’m always learning new things . Thank you Annie :)
This is hands down the best video I’ve watched on binding. It provides the best explanation of the three different types of binding, how they differ, and when they should be used. It then provides the best instructions for how to apply them. It manages to be a concise complete beginner, intermediary, and (at the very least, the first stages of) expert level course on bindings with the best tips and tricks to inspire confidence and facilitate success. The hostess has a gift for teaching that makes it all seem easy and at the parts that may be more challenging, she explains it with clear, concise, plain language that inspires enough confidence to at least attempt them. You don’t even feel the usual fear of failure with something new because you’re confident that with time, patience, and a seam ripper, success will soon be yours. 😂 I’ve recently been inspired to unearth the sewing machine I despaired of learning to use because I couldn’t find anyone to teach me how to do it. It made me fear that sewing was actually a lot more difficult and/or tedious than it appeared. I tried classes twice but the instructors weren’t as thorough as I desired and I really wanted one on one instruction. Amazingly, UA-cam has recently provided two amazingly talented tailors who are extremely knowledgeable AND phenomenal teachers to boot. What’s truly hysterical (to me anyway) is that the two are polar opposites in seemingly every way. 😂🤣😂 If you want to check out another professional sewing instructor, but one with a masculine, hip/cool, rock star vibe, check out the Tock Custom channel.
I have just decided that I want to make some different bags and have been researching UA-cam for all sorts of tips. For binding this is one of the most useful, keeper videos I've watched, all almost 40 mins of it. As a beginner to the sewing world I understood everything and the reasoning behind doing something. The finishings on all her bags are somthing amasing and professional. I've never been so impressed and immediately subscribed after. It wasn't boring and the camera angle showed everything which is crucial for beginners and her explanations were very concise. I even loved her displays of various colourful bags and would purchase one compare to when I see other project and I think who in the world would purchase that! I found my go to for tutorials and her videos are not boring. I will also be purchasing the "ByAnnie Stiletto" as looks like a useful tool in many ways.Thank you Annie for a wonderful video and helpful video tutorial.
Wow girl where have you been all my sewing life, you make things so much easier . This is by far the best video for sewing projects and ALL sewing center should have classes using your methods .
Oh wow thank you! I always did my mitred binding by just ending 1/4” to the end. Pivoting and sewing to the corner makes it easier to fold and keep us it from slipping. I’m definitely saving this video and subscribing to your channel. Very thorough and easy to follow.
I have always struggled with joining the ends of binding as it comes around bag or quilt. Then I saw a UA-cam demo by Krista Moser for Creative Grids Folded Corner Clipper. It’s like magic. My joins for the binding strips & joining together on a project are perfect. I highly recommend this ruler. Thanks for all the wonderful content you share. I love making your bags.
I’ve made several of your bags. Very detailed but the end result is great. You’re a fantastic teacher. Thank you so much for the videos. So glad you’re doing them. Tremendous help and I’m learning something new every time.
Thank you for this tutorial! Not only are the directions clear, the production quality is great and I was able to learn a lot about bias binding BEFORE I tried it for the first time. I also find it very helpful to just watch someone actually sewing. I'm fairly new to sewing, and I never really understood how to use my stiletto for this type of application.
A hint for joining the bias binding pieces is to lay them down in the shape of Tennessee and continue to piece the Tennessees together. I learned that when I lived in TN. I use it whenever I cut bias and join them. Easy way to remember
Over the last couple years, I've purchased all the classes you have on craftsy. Then, because I'm used to your patterns, I've purchased patterns from your website as well. I sure wish you'd do more classes though, especially on that organizer you have here in the background!! It's beautiful! Thank you for everything you contribute!
Wow, Beautiful Bindings is right! Thank you so much for so many excellent tips. This is an incredible video that makes me feel I could master bindings yet. You are a superb seamstress and have such a lovely teaching manner. Thanks again.
I absolutely love watching your videos, you do a excellent job explaining everything. It's funny because I've watched some of your videos and then my fiance bought a pattern for me to make a bag for her. We will see soon how well I do lol. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for this helpful video on binding. I always shy away from projects with binding because it never looks neat to me. This video was so helpful i am ready to practice and try again. This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen. Thanks again!
Annie is the BEST teacher! I love her project patterns and her well-designed stiletto is a wonderful tool. Thanks for this new video. I will save it for reference.
I have a bernina as well and I have found that using the 2A foot (overcast foot) before applying bindings to quilts really helps with the mashing down of the layers. This is an extra step but I think might be good to help with moderate bulk of these bags. Love the hammering for really bulky places. Wonderful tips!!!
Wow! Thanks so much for this educational tutorial. I learned so much about bindings today. Great tips in an easy to understand video. You are a wonderful instructor! Thank you Annie!
Thank you so very much for your thorough, exemplary method of instruction and pace of instruction, AND your sweet and gentle manner. I'm an international viewer and it's a relief not to have to listen to what are often very fast and loud speech. Thank you, once again.
Omg who knew you can learn so much. I’m saving this binding video to my favorites!!!!! Can’t wait to try these ideas out. Thank you so much. You explain things so well and show as well.
Yes I was wondering where she gets her fabrics from. You can also buy extremely creative fabrics from the designers at Spoonflower however the prices are quite expensive because it is a print on demand factory
Best video I've seen for a variety of bindings! I have one question about something that has come up when doing projects. If you're doing a mitered corner binding, and need to adjust your seam allowances by restitching or trimming the seam allowances, what do you do for the corners? Do you have to remove the stitching and redo the miters?
I'm a new sewer and subscriber. I love watching your videos. You illustrate and explain all the details so well. I appreciate that because sometimes other instructors rush through the process or leave out extra details and that makes it harder for me to understand the process. I feel like I'm in a classroom and truely learning because of your teaching style. Thank You!
I do the final stitching of bindings using a very narrow pin stitch, this makes sure the edges of the binding lie completely flat and do not lift up. Stitch with the main line of stitching on the binding with the pin stitch swinging over the edge. I learnt to do this on a reversible skirt, where I used bias binding as a facing. I needed to make sure the fabric laid as flat as possible, it worked so well that I now use this stitch on all my bindings.
@@susanmei9980 It looks like a blanket stitch, used in heirloom sewing. I reduced the width so that it just caught the edge of the fabric. I used the version that has one straight stitch and then a stitch at right angles to the seam.
Thank you for the tutorial on bindings. Have you ever used AccuQuilt dies to cut your binding? They have both a 2 1:4. and 2 1/2” dies. They have a tutorial showing how to cut bias binding.
love the binding on the bags but been a big struggle for me to get it as nice as yours. Results has caused a Carpal Tunnel syndrome but still love doing your bags
If you don't have a machine with needle down, you can simply turn the hand wheel to move the needle into your fabric to hold it before making adjustments to the fabric under the presser foot. Same thing.
Fabulous tips. Wish I’d watched these videos before I made my “Case in Point” case. 3 broken needles later. I ended up hand stitching some of the binding. The one I’m about to make for my daughter will be so much better. Thank you for your tips.
Because it looks like you've used the same color thread on the binding, it's hard for me to tell where the thread (coming from the bobbin) is sewn. You say at 40:18 the goal is that the line of stitching on this side (main side) fall out in exactly the same place on the other side. But I cannot visually see in the video where that is. Does that mean it should fall in the "ditch" on the back side?????
This is a fantastic video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
wow the zipper and side panel binding is a great idea. thank you!
Best tutorial I’ve seen for bias binding ! You cover everything from A -Z ! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years but I’m always learning new things . Thank you Annie :)
