It really depended on how I installed them each time. Sometimes I would t hear them at all, other times it was a little noise, and others it was some whistling. It was mostly trial and error to adjust them appropriately. Overall they didn’t bother me much.
Do they leave any marks on the rails when removed?
What's the length of the roof racks you installed? Width wise.
Generally speaking are the cross bars compatible with non-VW roof top
carriers?

Do you think 2014 sportwagen rails will fit the 2015 sportwagen? The info says no, but they look identical to me, did you try it before buying these rails?
Yes they do fit. Just bought a used set of OEM crossbars that were on a 2015 Golf Sportwagen. They fit my 2014 Jetta Sportwagen perfectly. The front crossbar is actually a few inches longer. I installed it incorrectly the 1st time as I installed the rails onto the cargo carrier 1st, didn't have the crossbar instructions and did not pay attention to the sticker...ooops.

how do I actually mount anything to these bars? is there an adapter i'm missing? I literally went out and bought round crossbars because I couldn't fnd any way to mount my yakima frontloader onto my OEM VW bars.
I had a Rocky Mounts Pitchfork and the front piece had a small metal plate that slid into the channel where the rubber strip is, and then you tightened it with an allen key. The rear had two bolts that went on either side of the crossbar and then a metal plate that went under the bar that you tightened with a couple of wingnuts. Different manufacturers have different systems and I do believe there are adapters.

i too must have been drunk, never saw in the vid how you clamped the feet onto the rails
The feet just go on top of the rails and you tighten them down. Once you place them on the rails they pretty much fall in place as you tighten them up.
But they don't. I have the exact same bars and they aren't dropping over the outside of the bars.
