- I bought the cheapest roof rack that mounts to the door frame. You'll want to watch my video to see how to install it as the instructions stink.
Here is the link to the roof rack
www.ebay.ca/it...
Thanks. I just found one still in the box for $25 at a local store. Your video helped.
Thanks. I turned to your video today when I was trying to assemble my rack. I now feel 10x more confident in what I’m doing and validated in terms of how bad the instructions are. Thanks for posting!
Glad to help. I hope this could help some people! It works so well as a rack. I'll just double check the cross bar bolts every now and then.
Had these last summer for my 10 ft kayak. They performed beautifully. Just gotta remember to push the part clinging to your doorframe in every so often.
Anything other than a recreational kayak or paddle board, you’re gonna need a higher end rack.
@ Donny burns I have a 2004 vw Jetta. It’s about 43 in across my car top. Will these racks fit ?
How do you think it would handle with a roof rack cage or whatever with the wind fairing? just for looks obviously. You think the solid 4 corner points would make it even better?
You should sell this instruction video to the manufacturer! It's not all that hard after you watch the vid
Awesome. Yeah. Instructions general stink from these products. I should show them!
@@LadybugAdventures with all the products they sell they must have a headache lol. They don't have time for improvements. If they have 100 plus complaints on this issue on installment and you provide a remedy to fix those complaints by a video they can be licensed to put on their website, then your getting paid!
@@LadybugAdventures i bought plenty of services from fiverr.com advertising, brochures, websites, audio recording for my company. I'm sure. If they are smart they will use your skill in making them way more profit then the couple hundred they'd pay for your video.
Lmao I have mine for over 6 months now and through the winter. It’s still going strong and I even have a basket of the rails. I put it on a 1999 Toyota Camry. Looks good imo
Thanks bro for you video…I just got mine and o did it because of you and love my roof rack…bless brother
Thanks. Lots of bad review of this, but having watched your video I assume those are by not very handy people. Seems like an OK design. The only other ones I feel like I'd trust not to fly off the car are the ones with ratchet straps inside the car and that just seems way too clunky.
I definitely wouldn't give this a 5 out of 5 rating. It works for me but I've heard plenty of not so good reviews as well. It works for me so I'm happy with it so far. I've put the paddle board on and I plan to put a cargo box on at some point as well.
Thanks for showing how to install this, I just bought one :)
I’m looking to buy this same set of racks.. will refer to this video for guidance when I install! Thanks!
Fantastic. Some people have been dissatisfied with this rack. Mine luckily still functions well.
Please don’t buy it is not good, I have one it’s not safe to drive with it coz it doesn’t seems to be locked
Thank you very much. Expecting this rack today. Your video will be very helpful. 🙌🏻
good video! i am looking for super cheap rack for my car...this looks like it! Thanks!
Awesome!
Nice little review, looking at getting a set myself so that's helped 👍👍
Hey, Quick question. I realized it says speed limit under 40 mph…
When the cap is unlocked with the key, do you see anyway to disengage the bar from it like unscrewing bar or unclipping it so that I could possibly cut shorter and reassemble to make a shorter crossbar?
Did you ever found a way to do that. Ordered a set from ebay and they were too long. I'm planning on doing the same thing
I got the same rack for my 04 Camry from Walmart for $70
Gotcha beat. $101 from American trucks on my raptor.
I put one of the metal straps in the wrong way, now its stuck, cant get it out. Anyone know what I can do?
Same here
3 years later, I saw this video looking for some cheap racks and they're right now at $45
😮😮😮
aint the best racks but if you cant afford anything else they will work. long term. Nah. but me they worked for years. I've upgraded to an ebay knock off rail and crossbars from my honda crv
$130 now... as long as they don't fall apart break while you're driving with a load
Any idea how to loosen them for reajustment?
Nice video . I have the exact same roof rack and I lost the key , do you know what the key number is so I can order one .
How to adjust to get loose cuz one side over tighten and can't loosen it to adjust it to my car
Just installed it. Thank you
Awesome
Still holding up OK today?
@@TakuyaHikichi
Yes absolutely. Just wrap the roof rack with Paracord to minimize wind noise. Besides that all good. Enjoy
The rack for my car is the same but it is a little bit bigger ...any solution
Thanks for the video
Anyone had difficulty ratcheting it in after installing the strip inside? It wont ratchet it in, instead it goes in and out with the pumping mechanism. Been trying for over an hour. I like the system overall, but if I cant tighten it, then it is going back!
Make sure the black plastic release lever (this allows you to remove the rack) is in the proper position. Don't remember which direction but it is in the video.
Bought the same exact thing for my Honda Insight, was able to actually get them installed without any help, but now I’m wondering how I can take them off! Have you been able to do that? And if so, could you help?
At 4:50 in the video you'll see how I disengage it. I take mine off in the winter so this does work but sometimes you have to fiddle with it.
they are crap the ratchet fails and don't tighten.. so I took them apart and ran ratchet straps through it and then through the car and now got solid bars pmsl
How do u stop the wind noise?
You can wrap the bars with a cloth etc
Would this work on a two door car? Want to be able to carry a bike on the roof
Don't know if there will be enough of a spacing between the bars to fit a bike
Do you know it the locks can be changed
Doubtful. Don't know.
ratchet size is 3/8"
Hello help bud ?
Iv got the same ones so happy they are the same but I’m having trouble with the quick realise to unlock the ratchet how do you do it haha
There is the black lever inside. You might have to jiggle it a bit to release the ratchet.
Paddleboard nose down!
you want the board vertical!? 🤣
easier to use buckle straps, without the metal hooks or carabiners, to tie it down. under the bars on left and right and over the board
I broke mine from pure rage of how shitty it was built , couldn’t get the metal tab to come back out no matter what I did so happy it didn’t make it to my car if it did I’d never be able to get it off
Having the same issue. Tightened too much now can't get the second rack to expand to install it!
Super helpful, I bought a very similar one and starred at it for a week. Watched this video and had it on in 25 minutes.
Thanks, your video was helpful. You may have mentioned this, but if so I didn't catch it: If the straps won't properly engage the ratchet mechanism (that is they pull out with little or no resistance), disassemble the strap, flip it over, and reassemble.
lol exactly that what happened to me. The instruction doesn't even mention which side is which. I thought it already broken when it won't tighten up.
I wish I had read this one comment after watching the video. I had to figure this out myself!
Thanks for that tip. I have the exactly the same model as in the video and I found the straps were pulling out.
How’s the durability so far? Bit worried about that thin metal bearing the load. Did plastic boot last?
Thank you for biting the bullet first for all of us.. I've been considering these cheap ebay roof racks for my old Acura RDX to avoid paying an arm and leg for the higher end ones. You're the man!
Awesome. It definitely feels like a risk when you're buying something from eBay! It doesn't always pay off but this time it definitely did!
I'm so thankful for your video! I just couldn't tell by my instructions which direction the straps should face. I think I got my other side stuck by putting them on upside down. Also I didn't have trouble with my locks. They work perfect but I realized my lock can't be open all the way to press the lever to get the strap out. It has to be almost closed. (If that makes any sense)
Glad I could help! Really bad quality control.
I’ve created similar video for this cheap roof rack. My concern is the clamp on the door doesn’t seem strong enough.
I am having trouble removing. Can you do a video for that
I have exactly the same one which I bought recently. One important point is to make sure you assemble each end clip the right way around into the slot on the end of the ratchet piece. It is easy to make a mistake and get it the wrong way round. Also, make sure you get the key all the way into the lock, with its irregular side face up. To open the lock, turn a quarter turn anticlockwise. To close, turn a quarter turn clockwise For the money, these are about the best value you can get, but the instruction leaflet could be better.
Could these racks be used for bikes?
@@exile9237 Not exactly. You would have to buy some bike mounts which clamp onto the wheels and frame.
@@johnchoice1371 I see but the bike mounts should clamp to these racks right?
@@exile9237 That's right. Look up roof mounted bike racks. You need to have the roof bars in order to use them.
Great Video. It was my directions instead of the ones that came with mine. Thank you!
Roof racks remind me of Grandma and the roadtrip to Wallys World!
Well I need one for my tsx to hold my skis 🎿
This rack sucks it was advertised as being compatible with my 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt nothing but lies lies lies returning this today set up was HARD I cut my thumb fitting flush the stupid pins and what not highly not recommended I paid $135 for the shit by the way 😂
To be able to ratchet this you must put the strap into the hook from the side that will fit on the car.
🙃
Crazy that I just received this rack from EBay. I was confused with some parts also. Thanks for the video, definitely helped.
Omgosh, THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH.🙏🙏🙏
Just got the exact same one myself. It has me stumped for a little bit.
Looks like it would be an ideal rack for a Smart car, considering there is no officially supported rack
I did not measure the car size properly, too big for my car, so I drilled out the two pop rivets from one end then sawed off one end about 8 inches then cut a groove to make a slot for the bit I first removed then pop rivet it on.
Thinging of pop rivet it to the car to stop it slipping off the roof.
Thanks man. I bought the same one. I was confused too
Did you get it going and more importantly, are you happy with it?
Thanks I can finally put mine on my car
Awesome. Those key locks are terrible. Still working on mine and it's not leaking as I feared it might.
This rack is impossible to get out. Anyone know how?
same i’m trying to get mine off did you have any luck?
You definitely get what you pay for😂 but it did the job I needed it to do I guess. I also struggled with installation but it's pretty sturdy, stood on top of my car on the racks with no problem. Your video was a lifesaver.
no issues with rusting or loosening ? did your door close all the way?
I can shake it and it moves my whole car. Its definitely solid once installed. But don't expect to take it back off imo after its been sitting for a few months lol. 1 time use IMO. 6 months going strong.
Keys been stuck for over an hour been playing wid it but doesn’t wanna come off after locking 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Complete garbage - bought one strongly not recommended. Silver metal strips are soft metal. Once the teeth are easily bent, lever action no longer tightens them. Black brackets do not make reliable grip on car. Now that I've just bought and fitted RhinoRack I know what a safe roof rack looks and feels like.
The ratchet with the cheap one is a nice idea but flawed in practice. It is too complex to be reliable when paired with way under speced materials in strength and thickness. There is a reason the Rhino mechanism for holding onto car is a very simple and very strong bracket and nut/bolt.
Just installed this on my Fist pain in the ass a 30 min job took over an hour but I agree for the money and once it's on the car it functions and looks great.
You meant Fit as in Honda Fit? If it's, 43.3" works fine without any modification? I have a 2009 Honda Fit Sport and thinking getting this installed for camping trips. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this video, you saved me a ton of time trying to figure out which orientation to put things. Really appreciate it !
Got same one, different brand name but identical except the instruction sheet which was greatly simplified. Universal my butt. Neither of the two provided types of bracket came close to working. Now I have to return the bloody thing and I’m no better off because the canoe is still sitting in my Dad’s yard and no way to it to my car to move it away.
Yep, I can't get it to ratchet tighter, just loosens when I fold top back to lock it. But I haven't watched the whole vid yet. Thanks in Advance!
I just stopped watching the video at 2 minutes and 20 seconds you're not even putting the thing together properly you don't force anything anywhere you're skipping steps I don't even know if you're reading the instructions so good luck with everything... Wow 😆
Me: "What are the rubber rectangle pieces for"?
Instructions:
LadyBug Adventures: 6:29
Thank you.
Awesome!!!
I bought the same roof rack for my kayak. I was wondering can you adjust the length of a racks. My roof rack seen a little to long for my vehicle (2000 Chevy Malibu)
Dont think so
Hi your link isn’t working for the item what’s the name of it ? And is it still holding up good ? Thank you
jayus fu#kin christ , .... Richard Feynman would have even struggled with this one. cheers buddy
To jest totalne gówno kupiłem na Amazon nawet tego zamontować się nie dało ponieważ mechanizm spinający belki się rozleciał i ja bym miał natym wieść roof box Total shit
This is extremely unsafe! Don't buy this garbage! You can easily remove from the doors. And if you break.... all your cargo will keep moving forward. Or heavy win say goodbye to you stuff.
Thank you sir for sharing such delightful review. Nice joke :-)
Have u carried something heavier than your paddle board ??
@@TheDejavu1714 no.
good question. not good answer 🙂
@@alohajason The truth can never be denied.
Just for info; I did purchased the same universal racks. Unfortunately I wasn’t too impressed. The back rack fit perfect but the front one wasn’t reaching the design of the car. I was afraid carrying something heavier slide back-and-forth
I did made the return to Amazon.
I went to the local Honda dealer got them for $440 US dollars.
Hello there and thank you for your review . I just bought one of this for my 2000 Crv planing to carry Yakima box have you ever try carry any travel box up there and being in Texas it is 75 mph limit at some point do you think this would hold ? Thank you again
Unfortunately impossible to say either way. I’ve never put a travel box up there, just my paddle board. I think it would be okay as long as everything was tightened down properly.
if you spray a little wd40 in the lock cylinder, it will make the key turn way easier.
Did that after the video just to reduce corrosion. We'll see how that works.
@@LadybugAdventures Did the WD40 help on the locking and unlocking?
@@rickrangel6938 3 out of 4 are locking well. The other only works when I partially insert the key! WD-40 for my purposes is really to limit the corrosion. Unfortunately those barrel locks are straight trash. I'm still using this rack though and I feel pretty confident it's not going to fly off. I check it before I put anything on it.
Avoid using WD40 in your lock cylinders, when the petroleum carrier dissipates, you are left with a surface dirt magnet! You would be better of buying their silicone spray, safer for rubber and plastic parts too!
@@who8dapple good advice
I got to add you as a friend you make it in this rack together funny it’s stressful but you make it funny
So how noisy is it at speed, 35-60-70mph? Would a crank on the stereo drown it out easy?
Thanks!
It's a pretty good drone. I might try to make a deflector.
I was looking at those and I've been looking at suction cup ones, had any experience of those? Nice paddle board :)
No haven't tried suction cup ones myself. Thanks! I can't wait for the ice to thaw so I can get out!
@@LadybugAdventures just use it as snow board to, where are you that it's still frozen in
@@lookoutleo just north of Toronto. Some areas are still covered in ice but should be clear pretty soon.
Im scared of putting it on the roof. Also im going to use it for carring 2 road bikes.
Fitted OK on my 2006 camry. Gotta put steel ratchet straps right way up to ratchet. Let's see if one day they come flying off along with granny's wheelchair.
I've been traveling with my paddle board on top through really windy days and luckily everything's been good.
Like some other buyers, I could not get some of the ratchets to pull in the retainer straps. Also, when I tried to lock the one rack that did tighten, the strap popped loose when I turned the lever to lock it.
I've heard of similar issues. I suppose I got lucky. Mine is still working fine.
Installed. Good and sturdy for the price. The only thing I don't like is the wind noise and is annoying. Other than that is great item. This video helps heaps ! Thanks
Yes the wind noise you get used to. But it is very present. I tried to put some foam around the bars and it helped.
Does not fit every car so not universal my car purgiot 208
I’m from Richmond hill, thinking of doing the same thing for my 08 matrix.
Hello fellow 905r. The locking mechanism is weird but if you fiddle with it it works and stays on the car. I've taken it on the highway quite a bit with no issues. I did take it off for the winter so that it doesn't get rusted in the components that I'm sure are super cheap. I also WD-40 the locking and latch mechanisms. The whistling and buffeting noises can be annoying but I've gotten used to it.
@@LadybugAdventures very good to know! I really appreciate the extra information I’m definitely going to grab these ones and be aware of everything you mentioned
I have I didn’t like it , it doesn’t seems to be really locked and safe
It Worked after I switched the Straps to a configuration that made no sense at all lol
This video helped a lot, thanx man for uploading and sharing how to install it. Appreciate much. Keep up the good work.👍
wish i wouldv'e watched this video earlier
My genuine/oem subaru racks cost 158. 00 and are awesome. I bought these years ago for my genesis for 60$ and they were total a** I couldn't get them to stay and the ratcheting broke
The key wasn't unlocking it. And the metal pieces that go in the door jamb wouldn't stay and we're so akwardly shaped. I wouldn't trust them at all lol
This video is such a big help!! thank you!!
Great!
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for your time and help! I have the same roof rack
Great, glad to hear that this was able to help.
Best video! Saved me time and stress levels jaja
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much for making this video you save me wasting my time and money on something that wasn't very good quality.
Terrific video.👍

Becomes bearable
I got this exact rack for $70 on Amazon and it did not fit for my application so I had to get creative on attach it
Uh oh. I guess I got lucky!
Anybodys car leak water after install. Mine has water coming in from attach points on top of door frame
After a while mine did too
I just had my rack delivered purchased from Ebay... $59.00 Same exact Rack! The price must have dropped recently there are many sellers for this price. These are great racks once you figure the bugs out1 thanks
Great price!
Hi can you post the link where you bought yours off eBay for $59? Thank you.
No way I could put that thing together.
I got this rack for my 2009 Civic. I don't think I trust it enough to stay on to use it.
I went down the road with my rack. Tons of wind noise. Ordered Oru foldable kayaks instead!
Anyone that lives up north definitely spray those locks and hinging mechanism. They are already cheap i doubt they make it through much harsh winter weather.
Solid joke. Now I'm going to watch your other videos just for the joke, lol
Thanks! Whatever gets people watching!
any totally botched the install also he didn't say if the little notches go up or down
That is a fair point. I did point out when installing the silver part with the notches it had to go into the bracket that attaches to the car. There is really only one way I believe that it can go in flat. So that should answer the question for those who were wondering if the notches should go up or down. That is probably why it didn't really get a mention because it would only work one way.
Does anyone have the link for it ?
I have questions lol great video by the way. The feet that sit in the gutters, do they have to be precise and from what points do you measure to find out what size to get. Thanks again for all the info
Did it ever leak through the doors when it rains?
It did eventually
Someone with rsx ? U think its gon a work???
