    Bowie doesn’t get enough praise for his contributions to this song. His whole Ice King vibe really grounds it. He was also the architect of the cut and paste vocal technique, the little finger clicks and (depending on who you ask) there are different recollections of who helped develop the famous riff. It was a true collaboration; he wasn’t just a guest vocalist.

    Apparently this is the story behind this.
    "One day in 1981 Bowie reunited with Queen in a recording studio in Switzerland, with the intention of doing vocals for the song “Cool Cat” . David got bored and suggested writing a new song from scratch. According to Mark Blake, author of a biography of Freddie Mercury, they began a 24 hours marathon of wine and cocaine and ended up with this musical gem. This is incredible! Back in the day when auto-tune wasn’t needed. You’d never hear this from most ‘singers’ these days."

    Freddie 'Supersonic' Mercury. Timeless voices!!

  • @jomontanee

    I got chilled!! This is my anthem for decades without understanding the lyrics. After the Mercury movie came out I decided to read the whole lyrics and it made me cry. It's all about the greatest love of all. The love that makes you reach to people in need and love that makes you treat yourself well with respect. It's poetic, deep, spiritual. uplifting and powerful. This song was created by 2 Legends of the century.

    "'Cause love's such an old fashioned word, and love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the light, and love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves. This is our last dance. This is our last dance. This is ourselves. Under pressure."
    2:31. Such powerful vocals, It's insane. And without the music it's just.. incredible.

    AMAZING!! When combined with the music it sounds effortless, only when it is stripped down and de-constructed can you hear the effort and passion. This is simply mind-blowing, I wonder how many vocal performances could withstand this scrutiny and show such beauty and passion.

    You guys need to understand this isn't an a capella version. This is the vocals for the song stripped out of the original recording. Brilliant.

    • @megavoce
      @megavoce 10 років тому +7

      It's not the finished vocal. Probably only 2 tracks mixed together while the final was at least 4.

      megavoce Either way, it sounds phenomenal.Gives you an idea just how great the vocal skills of both men really were. I came down to the comments specifically to find out if it was really a-capella, it didn't sound right. Doesn't change how cool it sounds.
