So, Stephen King makes a movie about ancient cat monsters draining people and gets a goofy stupid borderline comedy, Scooby Doo people do the same story and make a grim, dark, depressive thriller with a surprising amount of death and violence? Are you sure those two scripts didn't get switched mid-production? Cause this one is far more King than the one King allegedly wrote.
What did King write?
@@thecoffeeshopat2am173 Sleepwalkers. Look up NC's review of it
@@NekoiNemo Ok. Thanks.
The zombies are coming
Nah I'd say Sleepwalkers fits more with coked out of his mind Stephen King's work than Scooby Doo on Zombie Island does.
Still pissed they never went back to this darker art style for the sequel.
Sadly, in the 4 'main' Scooby Doo movies, it seemed to be a trend to go from darkest to lightest:
Scooby Doo On Zombie Island: Darkest
Scooby Doo And The Witches' Ghost: Darker
Scooby Doo And The Alien Invaders: Lighter
Scooby Doo And The Cyber Chase: Lightest
So, they were pretty much working backwards, which is unfortunate.
@@tart-miano While I will agree that Mystery Inc. was way darker and had a few good episodes it just wasn't my cup of tea. I mean, I like the episodes where it's the traditional mystery solving fare but when they started incorporating conspiracy theories and the like into it that's what turned me off. Like why put so much focus on Nibiru? That theory had been debunked several times over even before the show aired; and what in the nine hells was with that weird Illuminati-esque group founded by the original Mystery Inc. and headed by a fat neckbeard voiced by Lewis Black? As I said though I did enjoy some episodes but just not the ones that focused on the conspiracy theory nonsense.
That sequel ruined everything that was great about this movie daphne reveals her show was a school project and that the supernatural stuff was hallucinations from swamp gas like what the hell!???
Sequel? What sequel? I don't know anything about a sequel. Was there a sequel? Have I emphasized enough how much I refuse to acknowledge the existence of the sequel?
The sequel is pure crap.
The greatest twist in movie history:
THE ZOMBIES ARE THE GOOD GUYS
No one saw that coming when they first saw it. And anyone who says otherwise is a liar
Actually the pirate zombies may have been baddies. Did you see Moonscar coming at them with that sword?
@@jareththegoblinking3191 he never actually swings it at them though, he raises it at them sure, but he never slices at anyone
totally a great twist for Scooby Doo!
And it was cleverly foreshadowed during the chase scene, when a zombie passed Shaggy a vine so he could rescue Scooby.
“We didn’t bother making wax dolls of them. A waste of time and wax.” Savage line, yes. But in all seriousness, Scooby and Shaggy have defeated most of the criminals they’ve encountered by being accident-prone klutzes. At least have those wax dolls on stand by.
Probably an important fact that isn't brought up for this reason.
Scoob and Shag have borderline superpower levels of luck, like Domino from X-men
Yeah, but they might not realize that
They solve the mysteries literally without trying.
The reason Shaggy and Scooby survive most of their mysteries because the villains underestimate them.
Darkest movie: Scooby Doo on Zombie Island
Darkest tv series: Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated
That series was actually awesome. Too bad the last 2 versions have been TRASH.

I watched it a few weeks ago, expecting it to not be as good as I remember, but I was wrong because it’s just as good as I remember. And my grandma had to sell her cabin so it feels like I’m still there when I’m watching this movie, I love it so much
14:31 I remember in mystery incorporated they said that daphne was allergic to seafood or something, but that might only be canon to that one series
I actually appreciate Doug's ability to give us entertaining stamp commercials
Same, I'm surprised no one has made a compilation yet
Right!! I honestly loved it. Because of how amazing it was. Even better when my grandpa tried to be sneaky and see what I was watching. The look of confusion was so pure.
@@segwayman196 i am surprised ther ehasn't been a compilation of all the commercials doug has done so far. it is publicity and funny content. killing 2 birds of 1 stone.
he could be even more self indulgent by have critic review the commercials of this year doug has made so far
I normally skip the sponsorships in videos but there are a few people that I will stay and watch just because they are guaranteed to be entertaining.
Facts
The scene with Daphne in the recording saying "who opened the window" has forever been scarred in my brain from a young age I'll be an old man on day and still get chills at that scene.
This comment gave me chills because that scene is forever etched into my brain. And the part where Velma scrapes the wall with the spatula.
@@mandyfeltner1796 omg I forgot about that!
Omg. Same.
Oh my lord... same here and it's the weirdest sensation hearing someone else voice that
Me too, man. There's just something about that line reading that got me. Thought I was the only one. hahah 😂
From 14:47-1453 the gang plays hot potato with the zombie ' s head.
Me; hot potato hot potato they got the wrong potato and shaggy has a zombie head
14: 53-1456 nostalgia critic; I never thought I would say this in a scooby doo movie but holy shit
One of best things about this movie is how it handled the reunion of Mystery Inc. They didn't split up as a result of some dumb contrived falling out or something. It's more like life just took them on different paths after high school, like it so often does. And when they reunite, they're all genuinely thrilled to see each other again - despite being apart physically, they all remained friends. It's a huge part of what makes Scooby-Doo so endearing, that these five are united by their shared passion for solving mysteries, and nothing gets in the way of that.
Contrast the 2002 live-action movie, which also opens with Mystery Inc. going their separate ways, but with this acrid cynical conceit that their friendship was toxic, bitter, and hanging by a thread. They fall apart at the drop of a hat and it takes the entire movie for them to fully trust each other again. It's gross, cynical, and depressing, and it's a big contributing factor as to why that movie is such a slog to sit through. This movie got it - you wanna see these characters in action together, not constantly sniping at each other.
Scooby Doo is so much of a cultural icon that even SUPERNATURAL did a special on it. No joke, there is actually an episode of Supernatural where Sam and Dean get zapped into a Scooby Doo episode. I have no idea how since I haven't seen past season six for...reasons, but I heard about it, checked and, yep, it exists.
Also, HOLY SHITBALLS! They should have made this movie the Supernatural crossover! It'd have fit right in.
that is literally the only episode of that show i saw
Don't forget KISS
It's my favorite episode. The scene where Daphne is having a break down over heaven and hell being real is amazing
I was expecting a FAMILY picture or you know, for kids joke.
He would have been repeating it all throughout the review
Yeah I really wish he said that when Simone is draining shaggy and scooby
Eh that was old hat.
It's kinda rare for Critic to dust off the ole, meme book these days.
I'm living for all the Velma X Daphne jokes XD
#get Velma a girlfriend
and the Gardner a boyfriend
Crusader Of the lord in I think the newest show she does have a girlfriend
I'm more of a Shaggy x Daphne shipper
NC: So I'll be going over what is often regarded as their best work.
Me: MYSTERY INCORPORATED!
NC: Scooby Doo on Zombie Island!
Me: //Suprised Pikachu face//
It's still a really good Movie though.
@@adambump5297 it would have had cinema potential in the 90s and even today
There both really good Scooby doo things though
You may be surprised but it was correct. Zombie island is truly amazing.
@@Mr.Spock_ that was actually the plan until WB used it to push their Warner Home Video line
HOW DID HE NOT MENTION THAT THE CATFISH HUNTER WAS PLAYED BY MARK HAMILL?!
... You mean it's not obvious?
WELL SHIT
luke skywalker is an expert jedi AND fisher
You forgot the part where everyone’s faces started to melt because the dolls were too close to a torch. THAT was fun.
Also, my condolences for your friend, Doug.
Also, the part where Shaggy and Scooby become anorexic from getting the life drained from them. That was messed up to watch as a kid.
THE FUCK
@Catgirlcraft, Yeah, Zombie Island was actually pretty messed up for a Scooby-Doo movie.
I still ship Velma and Beau, get annoyed every time they stick her with another guy.
Yes he was such a cool guy for her, and hes played by Heman 2002 version
Tbh I more so shipped her with Ben in Witch's Ghost before the big reveal, but I can see why you liked her with Beau. 😉
Lets just ship her with Daphne lol
In The newest version of the show she is a lesbian though
Everybody in the mystery gang is bi
18:34 I'm a detective. Velma: your still a suspect
"this guy that was a character" 19:10 XD that was Mark Hamill
Mandalore331 that makes him barely being a thing worse lol
@@TheJthedog He was meant to be a suspect.
"Well I never thought I'd say this about a Scooby Doo movie, but holy shit" 🤣😂 lol
Skin growing and ripping off of a skeleton, tearing a head off and tossing it around, the cat women, cutting two guys in half, a bunch of people eaten by alligators. A FAMILY PICTURE, or better yet A G RATING
I’ve said that in many other scooby doo movies check out campscare the Friday the 13th one
I like Camp Scare they need to do more movies like that
17:26 I'm an adult now, watched this movie as a kid and that part with the settlers death cries as alligators swim toward them in the bayou gives me the shivers, what a terrible way to die being attacked and eaten by alligators, and Simone and Lena to watch helplessly and not being able to help their friends is sad, I don't blame Simone and Lena for wanting revenge for the pirates, but the tourists and spice traders were innocent
Yeah, the villains were originally victims. It's the pirates that started it all. And that part with alligators eating those settlers was pretty dark for a Scooby Doo cartoon. This film has a lot of plot twists. Zombies are the good guys. The ferry man is not human. The gardener is actually an investigator etc.
Not to mention the Civil War soldiers. It's not much of a stretch to think that they were lured to the island as an escape from the war, only to fall victim to Simone and Lena.
"I'm tired of being afraid, I have feelings world, for traps and Daphne." - Fred (2010)
Yes!
Daphne is actually allergic to shellfish, as revealed in a Mystery Incorporated episode
P0ta551um [PABA]
She's also revealed to be a hardcore chocolate addict. One of funniest moments in the series btw.
Poochyena Jones haha! I remember that
She bloats
Wasn't Daphne essentially allergic to pretty much everything?
Probably
Fun fact:
Mark Hamill is the voice of Snakebite & Jim Cummings is the voice of Jaques the ferryman
you can always tell petes voices. except for scar in that lion king song, never caught that.
@@TheRogueEmpire Jim has done other vocals that were pretty unique compared to his regular range. His Mickey Mouse-like falsetto voice for Buddy in "The Warners 65th Anniversary Special" of "Animaniacs" was one of them.
And a young Tara Strong (at the time this was released she was Tara Charendoff) played Lena
Also fun fact: Cam Clarke, the voice of the original Leonardo, the 2000’s He-Man, and the first English voice of Tetsuo from Akira, voiced the gardener.
@@chayden153 Don't forget Twilight Sparkle
15:23 you are not wrong. its part of my Halloween playlist
I'm not really a Scooby Doo "fan," but, yeah, I LOVED this when I first saw it. The fact that the monsters & ghosts were real were as good of a twist as the zombies only being innocent (mostly) victims and the dark tone made me reminisce of the dark kids' movies of the 80s. 💖
"Inappropriate music"
Ad: Hi, I'm Jimmy Dean
Me: XD
i did like that peice of music though
SO good 15:12
This movie legit had one of the greatest twists
“Zombies and ghosts are one thing, but seafood shells? I may be dumb!” Idk in the Mystery Inc series Daphne has a really bad seafood allergy.
I still remember watching this for the first time when I was a kid, and the ads in Cartoon Network for it.
It actually was kinda scary. Specially before the cat ladies reveal. It ends pretty similarly to the normal show unfortunately. But still I remember it fondly.
You can tell that Nostalgia Critic is really proud of how good his Shaggy impression
Shaggy could have defeated all the zombies and cat girls with only 10% of his power.
@@MinscFromBaldursGate92 Liiike, fuck you, zombies.
"You will know my name is The Lord! When I lay my Scooby upon thee!"
That had me rolling on the floor with laughter! XD
7:00 🤣🤣🤣
I just realised why I recognise Detective Beau Neville's voice. He's Cam Clarke,Leonardo from 1987 and sounds like a Southern iteration of him.
He was also in Grandma Got run-over by a reindeer
To me he'll always be Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid
I usually think of Kratos from "Tales of Symphonia", though he's definitely gotten more work as Leonardo and Liquid Snake.
they should've kept this art style, everything after it looked cheap
In a perfect world, this would have been the permanent art style of the entire show. It's just so good
@@jamesduncan6729 Yeah well unfortunately we seem to be living in a world that's not just imperfect but becomes more & more imperfect with each passing year.
I prefer Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated's art.
I loved this art style the most but “What’s new Scooby Doo” had good animation as well.
