Very good job, congratulations! Would you please tell me approximately how large and how long was the log? I would like to try doing the same with my lathe. Thanks a lot and many compliments!
Beautiful piece. What exactly are you useing to drill the hole into the bowl side. Is it just a drill bit? Ive never seen an attachment like that seema very useful. I try my drill press with little success!
I just bought my first lathe and still learning everything - today was the first day I tried to do some basic things on it... But what I don't understand is how come everyone on every video is moving the wood so fast, chunks or wood are flying like crazy while I am able to do only small piece by piece... Is it the speed difference, chisel angle, chisel sharpness or type of wood or something else?
Gotta keep your tool handle against your body and keep your hand on the tool rest for control. Take liter cuts starting off it will knock down on the bouncing.
What speed (RPMs) do you turn the Bowl, after you have shaped most of the bottom and the piece is fairly balanced on the lathe? I wonder if higher speed is better for turning the wings?😅
There is a formula but to be honest I just go by feel nowadays. I think @craftsuppliesusa has a good video on the safe speed for a blank based on diameter
Nice bowl, but do you know that you're not getting full grip on the entire recess for your chuck? With that wide of a gap between your jaws you're only partially making contact.
As a long time professional turner I am unclear about what you are saying? If the jaws were open more you’d have a better hold? In fact all you would have is a large base with no appreciable increase in hold. If you meant depth of the mortise the jaw fit into, you really shouldn’t bottom out the chuck. The best holds seem to me to be the closest the jaws are to forming a circle. I might have brought the tail stock up if I felt there needed to be a better hold but it came out wonderfully, didn’t it? Kudos to the turner.
Wow…that’s an incredibly beautiful bowl. I just have one question, how did you attract the blank to the chuck? I am starting out and would like to attach one the same way. Thank you.
Pretty. I was seriously waiting for it to snap as I watched it get thinner! I'm glad it didn't. How thin is the thinest bowl you have every been able to make?
I agree with the previous guy, no watch and no ring, also rolled up or short sleeves and full face shield. Got to be safe. Having said that, excellent design and technique. Beautiful piece, I love natural edge pieces.
You probably already know this, but just in case someone reads this and doesn't yet know, you should remove rings when turning. Yours might be wood which will hopefully break before it rips your finger off like a metal ring would.
I thought it looked like silicone which is the best option if one must wear a ring and turn. The ring will easily give. I personally remove all adornment before getting near anything that could grab.
I don’t wear a ring, when turning or otherwise, so I hadn’t thought about it. But, I’m struggling to understand how a smooth ring could catch and tear your finger off. Can somebody explain it to me?
Thanks for watching! Please hit Like, and consider subscribing if you haven't already. It really helps me out and I appreciate your support!!
Are you coating/sealing the surfaces with linseed, mineral oil, or something else?
What about the base, what did you do with it as it unfinished and still has the holding rings...???
I just discovered these woodturning videos and now I am wasting my life watching them; they are mesmerising!
It’s addictive!
Skill and artistry amazing and beautiful. Thanks for not spoiling it with music or talking.
Thanks for watching!
I really like these winged bowls. I also like the live edge look too. I suck at making them but I enjoy other peoples excellent outcomes.
I really like work like yours, and I do it with simple tools 👍👆. Can wood that is still wet affect the result?
That turned out great well done I like the way you kept the live edge . Thank you for sharing it with us!
What kind of wood? How long and what conditions used to dry it? How to know when it is dry enough?
Thks and nice work!
Would you please share a link to the chuck you're using. Nice work by the way
I don't think I've ever seen a bowl gouge that sharp! May I ask the brand of that tool?
What kind of camera are you using. The brand for sure.
Very good job, congratulations! Would you please tell me approximately how large and how long was the log? I would like to try doing the same with my lathe. Thanks a lot and many compliments!
What are the specifications of a good lathe machine and how do I get it?
Dude! I am amazed how far your skill have come in just 6 months or so. This is a beautiful piece and I think my favorite thus far. Bravo buddy bravo
Wow thanks man! Definitely got motivated to get better seeing your new stuff
Could be turned up the other way and a spike added to create a WW 1 German Army helmet.
Nice project. Thanks for sharing.
What was the drill/hole attachment you used to bore out the hole in the center?
It’s called a Forstner bit. You can get a set with different sizes.
Great looking bowl. What kind of wood is this? How long did the wood have to dry before turning? What was the finish, was it a wax???
Do u use a dust extractor? I just worry if I buy a lathe as I don't have one . Will dust wreak the motor. Great work BTW
Ha! Tried the exact same Thing a few days ago. Mine Looks like crap!! But it was the first attempt...
Beautiful piece. What exactly are you useing to drill the hole into the bowl side. Is it just a drill bit? Ive never seen an attachment like that seema very useful. I try my drill press with little success!
Get a drill chuck for your lathe and a forstner bit
I admire you you gave me the courage to go on I'm doing the master and don't know what comes out at the end like with your wood, thank you
what's the best way to balance and center a log chunk on a lathe?
Best way would be to use a bandsaw to cut the edges off, but I don’t have that so I just use a center finder and slowly get it balanced haha
Man of few words😐
Very nice bowl. I was holding my breath towards the end watching you turn it paper-thin...👍
Could you please tell me on which speed were you turning there?
I just bought my first lathe and still learning everything - today was the first day I tried to do some basic things on it...
But what I don't understand is how come everyone on every video is moving the wood so fast, chunks or wood are flying like crazy while I am able to do only small piece by piece...

is this green wood?.. looks kinda wet... and if so... did it crack or hold up? :)
Noce job :)
What lathe model do you have
What's the wood spinning machine called??? Can we order it through Amazon??
Nice video bud, well done.
Lovely bowl.
WOW, what a great Candy Dish!
does the wobble not affect the end product?
You know how to use a bowl gouge! I watched intently the way you handled the tool. I learned something from your video. Thanks!
Thanks! I still make mistakes a lot but practice helps
Gotta keep your tool handle against your body and keep your hand on the tool rest for control. Take liter cuts starting off it will knock down on the bouncing.
Very impressive skills. I hope I can get half as good
What speed (RPMs) do you turn the Bowl, after you have shaped most of the bottom and the piece is fairly balanced on the lathe? I wonder if higher speed is better for turning the wings?😅
About 900. This lathe I had to move the belt to change speeds so it only had a few choices for rpm
Nice work!
What a beautiful thin bowl!!!
Thanks!
look so nice i am so proud your working
Gorgeous! Thanks for taking the time to capture this in video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was looking for the half bowl. No points for you today!
Классное видео. Из большой заготовки получилось маленькое изделие. Очень экономно.
Question from a new turner - Is there a formula or something to know about the speed of the lathe when starting a bowl from a blank?
There is a formula but to be honest I just go by feel nowadays. I think @craftsuppliesusa has a good video on the safe speed for a blank based on diameter
@@CookWoodworks thanks for the reply, I’ll see what I can find.
What is the indexing setting for on a Jet12-21?
Quite a lovely bowl!
Thanks!

The craftsmen are extremely skilled,like
My favorite part is the finished project. My second favorite part is watching all those long wood curls fall away.
Really good !!
Thanks!
😉💪
Wow, lovely shaped bowl, I love to see a craftsman at work, Thanks for sharing this,

Nice Piece, thanks for sharing
Look even nicer filled with monster munch
A beautiful piece.... well done!
Wow…that’s an incredibly beautiful bowl. I just have one question, how did you attract the blank to the chuck? I am starting out and would like to attach one the same way. Thank you.
That screw in the chuck is called a worm screw. Most chucks come with them. Simply drill a hole as screw the wood on.
Looks very nice😉👌
Duuude, that ring makes me really nervous 😅😅, very nice work though
Pretty. I was seriously waiting for it to snap as I watched it get thinner! I'm glad it didn't. How thin is the thinest bowl you have every been able to make?
This one is pretty close to the thinnest, but I once made one you could bend like paper
What kind of wood was that bro.
Good work! It's like a potato chip!
Did you use green wood or was it dry?
This was green
Very nice work AND a good video! THANKS! What is the wood?
Thanks! This wood is jacaranda
Beautiful bowl
Thank you!
Perfect for chips and dip!!
What a cool hat! Nice job! LIKED!
Nice Piece
Thanks!
Would love to know where you got the bowl gouge...? Thanks!
Nice work, great result
Thanks!

What kind of lathe it is ?
I just bought my first lathe. This video inspired me to get good fast so I can make creative projects like this.
Ki
What did you get for a lathe ?
What size lathe is that
❤ thank you sir very nice and educational for beginners like me
Like the process of turning much.
Really like the bowl and the video. Thanks for sharing. Excellent work.
Boy that lathe really vibrates.
Gorgeous.
A little tip, when it comes to lathe there is no bracelet, ring ... bravo
Turn out really beauty.
I love it when a log becomes balanced on the lathe. :)
Nice work

Nice hat!
I have wondered why not drill a hole to be a depth indicator
That is a good bowl
It's beautiful piece. Cheers
Good work sir super video
love it. looks like a big potato chip :D
Are your bowl for sale
Could also be used as a Pith Helmet.
Or a xylem helmet. You know what I'm saying?
You probably already know this, but just in case someone reads this and doesn't yet know, you should remove rings when turning. Yours might be wood which will hopefully break before it rips your finger off like a metal ring would.
Couldn`t have said it better myself

If you injure your finger they may need to cut the ring off to treat it.

What type of gouge do you use to shape the outside of the bowl, please?
Very well done
Wow very nice
Amazing
Beautiful
Anybody know where I can find an old log?
Brilliant
I love it.
Great job
Very nice work. I'm new to turning and hope to make a few of these. 🇺🇸👍😎
Awesome have fun!
Beautiful
Good job
I kept waiting for you to pour a bag of potato chips in it!!!
it looks like bobby helmet and sherlock holmes cap had a baby. Nice
