What I really appreciate in your work is the experience, the artistry, the clear mind and the vivid imagination of what will become from that raw piece of wood. Beautiful, thank you for sharing
hes trashing his machine, he could have gotten it a lot more balanced then that. Its not his fingers but his face he has to worry about, he is wise to stand to the side as that log could come out.
Not sure what made me more nervous - the first few spins when you fired the lathe up, or turning blind with the chisel out of sight through a inch-and-a-half hole 😂 outstanding mate - well done 👍🏻
I can imagine that your wife has many of your beautiful items all around the house. Once again you made something beautiful out of just an ordinary wood log.
Laburnum aka Golden Chain. We had a huge one when I was growing up. It was gorgeous in full bloom. I didn't know the grain would be gorgeous as well. Good job!
No matter how many live edge turning videos I watch, I can never comprehend when you put it on sideways at the start, how it will turn out in the end. Always a mystery.
To be honest with you, I just love it in the unfinished ball shape. It’s fascinating so I can’t wait to see what you do next that would grain is beautiful.
Michelangelo, perhaps history's greatest sculptor, understood this concept to his bones. Two of his more famous quotes speak directly to it: Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
Buddy, everything seems impossible unless you have the proper tool and a little experience with it. Once you can imagine what you can do with the tool ideas come to you.
@@markbeames7852 honestly I think a lot of this is just to start doing stuff to the wood and refine the form as you go. When I'm turning I know a general thing that I'm aiming for, but make design changes as I go to suit the wood. It's always a surprise for me what I end up with.
So creative and beautiful! I agree with the poster below regarding the strong and steady hands required.....impressive! I love your small inserts which remind me of butterfly steri-strips healing the "ouchies."
Truly a beautiful piece! Our laburnum tree is not nearly that large, but I've gotten enough off various prunings to make some nice tool/chisel handles,. It has a bunch of different 'local ' names, around here it is called a Golden Chain Tree. -Veteran '66-68
A beautiful piece, both from the design point of view and its natural beauty. Love the contrasting bow ties. A clever way to fix the problem whilst looking like they were part of the design before you even knew about the cracks. Talking about design, do you sketch out (or design "architecturally" to the mm) before you start the process, or do you think "vase!" or whatever it is you come up with, and then let the wood guide you to the actual end shape? Obviously some like the 3D chess board & set would require a lot of planning, but it's more this sort of work that I'm thinking about. You do it so naturally that it seems like you're doing one extreme or the other when it comes to the design. However you do it, you never fail to amaze me with your skill and artistic eye. Bravo, squire, you did it again!
You need a clear plastic screen behind you, keep cuttings in one place! I have seen small Laburnum, but never as large as this, you keep us all guessing what its going to be, another excellent work of art.
Since my life was flipped upside down I lost my inspiration to be in wood shop but watching this has rekindled my fire to get back in the wood shop and make some wood shavings.
WOW, I've watched many of your videos & you always seem to out do yourself. I myself enjoy working with wood & quit good at it but you're on a much higher level than me.
Oh wow! He even has a shavings blower machine tool thing!!! (9:17)I didn’t realise how much I needed these videos in my life to relax me until I stumbled on this channel today! Thank you 🙏🏼
Hi Andy what beautiful wood its got lovely grain and markings and colours. What a magnificent piece you have just made, you really have a brilliant imagination and you are really clever. Thanks for a great video can't wait for your next one. Amanda xxx

Nice. I’m surprised that these craftsmen that I see do these amazing projects don’t raise the grain of the wood with a damp cloth. Pops made numerous gun stocks and forearms and I always remember him getting the stock wet and then drying it in a warm oven. Sanded when dry and repeated until there was no more grain to raise. When I was young my late father had little lathe which was powered by a mains powered drill and 'played' on it for hours with a bit of 2x2 never made anything decent just enjoyed it. Andy,s a talented guy, produces very good stuff
There is a look of Tiger Eye stone as the light hits the pale area. I love how you add a twist of interest to your pieces, they’re never run of the mill 👍
Beautiful wood, beautiful finished piece, Andy. I thought I saw a flash of chatoyance when you were showing it on the lathe. Just curious, could you see the bowties on the inside when you checked it? Bill
I thought you were on your way to another earth piece for a minute there, Andy. That Laburnum is quite understated in it's elegance. Love the bowties addition. Great piece! 😊 Phil
Thanks Phil .. I'm just in the process of making another globe ... PS Bluetti contacted me last week !! I'm going to have to learn how to speak though !!!!!

How can you not like this. You can tell he knows what he's doing, he still has all his fingers.
Я потерял мизенист на один фланг и большой палец раздробил фрезерном станке
Купил токарный станок попытаюсь без трамв, хот я токарь по металлу, работаю с детства по дереву

No matter how many live edge turning videos I watch, I can never comprehend when you put it on sideways at the start, how it will turn out in the end. Always a mystery.
Such a beautiful piece of wood!. I don't think I have ever seen Laburnum wood before. The grain is fabulous.
it looked like a strobe light spinning with all that chatoyance, just incredible
Hi Andy. The laburnum has a very pretty grain to it. And it looked like it required a strong but steady hand to carve it. It's beautiful.
Thanks 👍

Wood in it's beautiful natural glory. ❤️❤️

I wish I could look at a piece of wood and not just see what it is, but also see what it could be.

I'm always amazed when i see a video like this, that doesn't end up with a hole gouged through to the outside. Whats the magic behind that?
Practice.
yes I do think I love me a laburnum log...all dressed up too! :D Amazing work hollowing it out (or whatever term is more appropriate.)
Thank you!

The wood grain is absolutely beautiful, but those little Band-Aids on those cracks are just adorable.
