But you want to play this like I did make sure you have the settings for weapon spread type on "MMOD" and combine better aim "enabled" and most importantly have it ON GOD DAMN HARD BECAUSE I DID LIKE A STUPID DUMBASS.

EDIT: Since so many comments are saying this was all MMOD and the mod was "perfectly balanced" I've made an informative little video dispelling this assumption: ua-cam.com/video/fFwdtCZDIlI/v-deo.html
Sorry about my devolution throughout this video into a 2012 lets player. I was letting out a lot of pent up frustration through loud noises.
Also sorry about the popping and mouth noises, I was practically deepthroating my microphone during this stream. Because of this video I have bought a foam mic cover which should mostly prevent this issue happening in future.

I love the difficulty plot twist at the end.
🤣
M. Knight would be proud.
He showed his skills with that tho
that's like something never seen before.
I knew it all along since I noticed he reloaded a save, and I was hoping that Jolly sees it right at the end and so he did lmao, great twist for sure
This is a great showcase of why, in my opinion, difficulty should never be a slider of "do more damage to enemies with less health who hit you like a wet noodle" to "do negligible damage to enemies with huge health pools who can and will kill you in an instant"
Half Life 2 is pretty well balanced even on hard. Dogshit mods like this throw that out of the window though.
@@PipMan1101 Half-Life has the problem in spades, check the difficulty alterations. They're whack.
This is also a showcase of "give your enemies that have goal oriented pathing goals to path to, you know, like cover., and vantage points, and don't let them just run at the player."
I can understand why you'd have that opinion I don't personally agree, but it might help that the ones I've played that kind of difficulty on still have health bars. Helps to actually see how much, or little, damage you're doing.
Higher difficulties should make the A.I of enemies more challenging to fight rather than only buffing their stats.
IMO, Terraria [and Terraria mods] does a great job at making playing on higher difficulties feel rewarding for performing good rather than just min-maxing your damage. While min-maxing is viable to some extent, playing with skill makes you feel rewarded for being good.
Most people enjoy Jolly losing his mind to absolutely broken mods, i must admit i do too, but this one, this one i just feel bad for him, this whole ordeal of absolute madness mixed with the stab in the back at the end, i enjoyed the video but still, that must've been a mind wrecking experience.
I thought I had the mindbreak tag filtered out, how'd this video show up?

Now's a good time to remind you, Jolly, That the source AI does a lot of cheaty things. They intentionally miss you when you're running away under certain circumstances to make you feel like you're dodging it hollywood style. Then when they get "pissed off" they aimbot you.
Kinda like The Last of Us 2 does it? It even tells you on the tips that you'll be missed more often if you're running away
@@Lucios1995 I mean, it's not really a new thing to make AI a bit less of a cold-blooded murderer when the player needs to have a chance. It's when you don't get that kind of treatment you can tell and oh boy it hurts.
@@Lucios1995 TLOU 1 also spawns weak enemies during certain fights if you're out of ammo, these enemies ALWAYS drop some ammo. The gym fight is where it's most obvious.
I mean, that's not really cheating, is it? It's harder to hit a moving target than a still one. That's not really cheating, that's just the game being programmed correctly.

One of the best things about HL2 is seeing the different enemies fighting each other. There was a whole chapter dedicated to that. To have the zombies and Combine working together is really disappointing.
Yeah, it was super ridiculous seeing combine and zombies together just beeline for Jolly. Other comments are saying it's because other mods he has are messing with the AI though.
@@the_rabidsquirel Nope, author made it that way

Half life 1 was a success because you had 1 crowbar. 2 was a failure because you did not have 2 crowbars. Half life 3 will be judged upon it's crowbar count, and the desired number is 3. Not 4, as 4 is a patently rediculous number of crowbars.

this map is like when you're playing Gmod and you spawn in way too many enemies for shits n giggles while you have godmode on except someone actually thought that was a fun way to play the game for more than 5 minutes, made it into a map, and forgot the godmode
I'm the guy who does that without godmode and somehow still kills them all, with mods that make combine ai even better for extra challenge as well.
@@salt-d2032 I tend to do the same thing at times. Though the difference is, enemies didn't take entire mags to kill and didn't bum rush you.

The worst part: I feel like jolly would have actually had a pretty enjoyable time, if he'd actually been playing on normal. The fact that he THOUGHT he was on normal while he was on hard, made all the fights feel pointlessly difficult and unfair. The last fight, when he was actually playing on normal, actually felt fairly balanced. He was wrecking house with all his cool toys and he completed it without being forced to cower in a corner for several minutes.
I'm sure he is proud now though
Also doesn't mmod make game harder? Shotgunners weren't that scary in hl2
@@greindes1579 Oh no, they were, they just died so fast you rarely got to experience one of them dealing like 60 hp at point blank. When they actually have an AI that moves fast and towards you no matter what avoiding your shots it gets real scary, but when you just kill them before they dish damage they don't seem scary even tho their guns definitely are.
Nah, this mod is imbalanced in general. Normal would have made sure that while he would swear at it and die a bunch of times, his soul wouldnt implode into his own body sucking every ounce of life out of him. But the waves are excessive, the fights pit you in such a way that you most likely will not win until you explored the room layout which you are forced to do with the fight already happening, a lot of the things the map maker set are placed in a way that is detrimental to the player for no real "challenging" reason other than cheap deaths from the MMOD AI, the enemies are set to spawn to swarm you hard and can use a lot of tactical advantage ontop of that. The infinite ammo crates are placed in areas that are not easily identifyable (aka they force the player to explore a map with low ammo whilst in the middle of a wave and shoot out that doesn't give them any time to explore whilst trying to hide useful/necessary shit as hard as it can with lighting and lay out). This mod is just a big 'fuck you' to the player, without any of the novelty of "I wanna be the guy" or "Cat mario" that are purposefully assholes and you go play them because they are that way. It's not a fun map.
i agree with the dude above me, this mod looks awful to play, even if the enemies weren't damage sponges

Im pretty sure this difficulty wasnt intentional, the creator simply didnt playtest the game on hard, in vanilla hard hl2 the enemies are bullet sponges just like the mod and the mmod ai revamp makes so the combine consider gordon a greater threat than the zombies so it seems the enemies are teaming up. The mod is supposed to be hard on default difficulty but changing the difficulty completely fucks up the balance, when jolly changes to normal he begins to enjoy the game as he says during the train fight. Imagine if elden ring had a hard mode? It would be impossivle since you would be one shot no matter how you use your gear.

fun fact, a bit after this video came out, the MMOD patch dev released an update which changed the description of the difficulty levels. easy is now normal, normal is now hard, and hard is now "nightmare".
Megaman II Japana difficulty
I have not laughed as hard as I have watching this masterpiece of content. All stages of man are represented. Truly a tale of the ages. Jolly's descent. People will write songs of this feat.
Jolly's Inferno?
Maybe Jolly's Insaino?
Moral of the story: always remember to change the difficulty BEFORE you save
poor jolly. This broke him way more than the jolly hardcore mod.. Just because Valve chose to tie saves with difficulty
This is what achievement-brain does to a company.
This is my first time learning that's even a thing! It's very unintuitive design considering it's in the options menu instead of something you choose before you start playing like most games.
I'm not sure about this, but I think the difficulty level only affects newly spawned entities, so there may be something going on with that as well
It’s the fault of the mod for being unbalanced
So THIS is why it felt like the difficulty wouldnt function when I played hl2 as a kid
Reminds me of the time when the HL2 devs changed one of the playtester's games so he was receiving like 500% damage, so he went to get lunch and talked about it with other playtesters, and was told "oh yeah, that part was easy" when he was getting absolutely demolished by every enemy doing near-one-hit attacks.
... that's just mean...

@@StarHunter28 all valve devs are amazing

I can exactly tell Jolly's emotion at 33:30 when he just watched that rocket fly towards him and did nothing but let it rip him limb from limb, absolutely defeated, broken man.
I really can't see how any reasonable person could find this mod's hard difficulty "fun". Constantly bum-rushing bullet-sponge enemies that can kill you in mere seconds isn't good difficulty, it's NPCs that know they're tanky as shit and throw themselves at you knowing you're made of wet paper.
I'm pretty sure that's just default HL2 hard difficulty. It's just HL2 itself never really threw this many tough enemies at you at once, or in a way where you'd become overwhelmed with no cover.
Something tells me this mod absolutely wasn't balanced or playtested to be beaten on hard difficulty.
@@NabsterHax default is Normal. It just him reloading a save that has difficulty set to hard
Yes, you heard me. Saves also saved which difficulty you have set.
People who ascribe difficulty to being of higher value are responsible for ruining a significant portion of the games industry.
Oh god not you...
@@NabsterHax I don't think its regular HL2 on hard mod. Combine soldiers die from one SMG grenade even on hard, in this mod they eat two grenades before going down.
My first guess about hard difficulty was Jolly not pressing "apply", because that seemed like the kind of error he would make
But the real error seems like something you need to have technical knowledge of how source works to realise without looking
I mean it a big button that says apply or ok its like baby source baby steps
Also mmod fucked him with the ai being different where zombies and combine dont attack each other (unless custom sequenced like getting the shotgun) and actually fire underslung/smg nades the mod itself doesnt seem hard just combined with mmod made and hard mode made it a nightmare
@@grimdiggy5697 Have you played TR1P?

@loannguyen2057 what for? if it is explicitly said "play on normal" and you decide to play on hard, that's purely your fault.

The best way to actually add difficulty to a game is to make the enemies either smarter and more cover based or make ammo and health less lootable or both to make it rather resource heavy and intense. making enemies have more health just makes it more annoying to actually play the game rather than maybe an enemy or two extra and them peeking out of cover to shoot and having the same amount of health regardless

I've been subscribed to this channel since around 2015 (he had stupidly funny nickname back then). It was the first big channel which aimed on showcasing trash/comedy/broken addons, mainly for HL series. It was unique so I got curious and used to watch it a lot. Hard difficulty should NEVER just be "The enemies are bullet sponges now, and you die as fast as you would IRL" Hard difficulty SHOULD ALWAYS BE you no longer recover from wounds by just waiting and your enemies still drop quickly, but they do just as much damage to you as you do to them now
I agree, I also think difficulty should change the game up in different ways, perhaps in terms of enemy placement and variation and even in enemy abilities.
all video game difficulties should be like Vanquish's God Hard, where you are constantly asking yourself why you are playing it because you are getting demolished at every turn.
But for real, I do agree with that, but that's also very basic. I think the enemies should employ different strategies and new abilities on top of what you suggested (which is sort of similar to what Half Life 1 did...sort of).
Cut to Blood where cultists start to chuck dynamite bundles instead of single sticks depending on the chosen difficulty
all video game difficulties should make the apparently existant "vanquish's god hard" seem like one of the easiest pieces of content possible (especially when on the games obligatory "modern game journalist" mode]
i love Madness: PN's difficulty scaling, the hardest difficulty called madness does a thing where you have very low health but the enemies also have very little health, making it so you have to play very aggresively and kill them before they see you
Jolly: *complains about people not wanting to experiment with him*
Also Jolly: *complains when enemies want him more than others around them*
Another example that Stalker gets difficulty somewhat right: difficulty sliders or toggles should make your enemies harder to kill but they also have a harder time to kill you
Jolly, this might be one of your best videos, it’s so well edited, it’s hilarious. And even though you might be embarrassed by the noises you’ve made, you were genuinely funny. Thanks for brightening my day.
You are like the artists in the past, risking your own mental well-being to bring us a truly masterpiece. Thank you Jolly
I like the moment combine goes "peekaboo" droping 'nade at Jolly's legs
Honestly? Really fuckin impressive he made it that far without realizing he was on hard difficulty. I can only imagine how sick this playthrough would be if it was one continuous clip
how to make this mod a tad bit more balanced:
1. scale back the enemies. considering this is a pretty prominant run and gun section with the amount of twists and turns through the level with dead ends that house loot, adding a crap ton of enemies to it is not a good idea. maybe put enemies in set positions with more behind cover and up high than on the ground rushing at the player.
2. if you don't want to scale back the enemies, then add more resources for the player. put a mounted gun at the exit to the tunnel for the player to shelter at and hold off some enemies. you cannot fight that many guys with base level guns. or, put more healthkits in positions the player is likely to go to. litter those places with resources. maybe make sure that those places are places the player can bunker down and fend off before moving on further.
these simple 2 solutions make the game a helluva lot more balanced, and they can easily be realized if you simply playtest the game. why do you think half-life 2 is so genius with giving you resources and enemy placement? because they playtested the game! and not just with the same guy every time, but with multiple different people who may or may not be well experienced with the game already.
a lesson to be learned from this mod is this - playtesting saves fans of your game a lot of trouble
Well. Now we can say that jolly was on war. And he have PTS.
That mod, literally, a nightmare.
I really missed watching Jolly go insane after 'too many crates'
This mod reminds me of the time me and my pal frank went to Cincinnati. Good times
Most peaceful day in Cincinnati
When your mod makes Jolly so insane that he starts laughing like Darkviper
Jolly and Darkviper should play gtaguesser
This is a cinematic masterpiece. The emotions, the action, the trash can sideplot.... It's beautiful.
Here we have a video filled with the fragments of Jolly's sanity
Love when jolly starts losing it
"we're figuring out strategies" Because there is more than one way to die
I know it, you was playing on hard, and i was suffering with you dude. That was fucking hell.
This, Jolly, is the best video you've ever made. It has everything - an arc of tension, a story, a big reveal, emotional investment, pain, laughter... it is excellent work and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the suffering you endure for the sake of us, some lads sitting somewhere halfway across the planet, howling in joy.
We have to admit Jolly did great. His skills are improving considerably
I must say, if someone actually called jolly bad for any of this they be trippin, my man was playing out of his ass and it shows
To a literal dead woman: "I don't even blame you. I wish I could just sit down and cry in a puddle of my own blood as well" 😂
This stream legit felt like a full length tragic movie.
I am in so much pain, I'm stuck in the walls, SEND HELP IMMEDIATELY
oh I can already tell this is gonna be a nightmare
46:45 This moment is pure art, possibly the best moment on the whole channel. The montage scrolling by to the continued sad piano music, just *chefs kiss*
Hey hey heyyyyy, Jolly!
Remember Entropy : Zero? That mod with THAT bull shit corridor and the box fort rebel camping a corner? There's a sequel nooow!
It's REALLY good, trust me, it's better than Entropy : Zero ever was, almost everyone, including me agree that this mod needs to be a game of it's own
Jolly, that is some of the best FPS gameplay I have ever seen. While you may have used some rather well deserved cheese at first with the garbage can, basically every other fight was just plain skill paired with tenacity.
Y'know. There are a lot of UA-camrs out there who play up their hype, or rage, or fear for the sake of entertainment. But I wholeheartedly believe Jolly's pain here is real.
THIS was difficult to watch AND entertaining at the same time :D
How you keep your sanity after mods like this?
Also: when's "Jolly's hardcore mod 2.0" comming out?
I would like to see some crazy dude doing a no death hard speedrun of this LOL
Uh oh ;D
Question though.. I genuinely wonder about what your thoughts would be if you accidentally didn't revert the difficulty.
I know I only saw the clipshow of a youtube video.... but I've the feeling you'd beeen more disappointed with ...... what amounts to a badly tuned & less focused map design & poor serious sam clone with geniunely far to many enemies between checkpoints & far to much spawning per map spot, for this kind of 'hard'
Look I'd be a fan of the FU, you barely do damage design that requires some clever work arounds for normalish enemies, & even very careful planning... but you kind of need to stop after a certain point.
I think the developer covered the amateurish mistake in balance with 'lul it's hard' after the fact. I think it was balanced around normal with maybe a soft drag in locating stuff on the go. I also think that the combined effect of the natural 'enemy armor & hp' going up just from the base game got combined with the modded effects of 'less effective weapons' taking a softish linear scale into a quadratic one, and utterly failed to consider the sign posing or map design for prolong fights, or the games mechanics where extended fights from a single enemy always put the player in a worse spots than a quicker harder hitting enemy that takes less hits.
Look I get very tuned fights, that are near bullethell levels of reaction times, and even Love that kind of cracked play in beat hazard where there is zero time to do anything but act/react, but ...... Jesus .. there is a reason those twitch reaction games, and just super focus games have their fights last for only minutes.
I mean I guess there are just ... stupid hard games to be stupid hard in the worst ways, to show why some conventions exist for things.
I feel like we owe Jolly a 2 week vacation to a tropical resort after watching this, holy shit this was both amazing and disturbing to watch xD
gg Jolly
It was a nice video dont mind that the videon is on youtube for 2 minute now and its almost 1 hour long but IT was good
