This song is one of the major reasons why I am still alive. I had a hard childhood due to bullying so much so I was depressed by the age of 10 and suicidal by the age of 11. This song came out around that time period and music played a vital role for me in the last 80s/early 90s. Well when I was 12 and in the 7th grade. I was by then going to a private school, since my parents believed that would help me and it did. Well the school had a talent show. I decided to give it a try and I sang this song. My grandpa was there too. I always believed I got my singing voice from my late Grandma after she passed away since she could sing, but I never could sing until after she passed away. I must have done a good job saving this song because the next day at school, literally all of the girls in my class came up to me saying how much they enjoyed my singing and invited me to 'hang out', which was a God sent. So this song, helped me make friends, and along with other factors like developing a personal relationship with God and Jesus, and having teachers who believed in me, well, these things help me see the value in myself and saved me. So this song will always have a special place in my heart, so thank you Amy Grant for creating this lovely song!
What a beautiful testimony. Always remember that Jesus loves you and will never turn His back on you. Seek Him. Ask Him to forgive you and come into your life. "With God on our side who can be against us." Love ya, bro.
Hello beautiful how are you doing today I hope you are having a nice day off do tell me how is health and work do tell me how is the weather over there,do you mind if we can be friends I will be grateful if you say yes!!
The joke is that even back then most "love songs" were either sad or sexual. Amy is Christian and she knows love is positive thing. Also "Love of Another Kind" from her is definitely worth listen. Amy "going secular" wasn't end of her faith. We have sad and happy music in 2021. We had also before The Beatles.
Hello beautiful, how are you doing today I hope you’re doing good, it’s a pleasure meeting you here and I would love to be friends with you when you’re free. I think we could be good friends if you don’t mind, I’m a very playful person..

The first time I ever heard Amy Grant sing was back in 1990 & it was Christmas songs. My boss at that time told me how Amy sang Christian music - that definitely got my attention. Amy has always represented herself very well........she is so beautiful & happy AND she keeps her clothes on & doesn't swear!!! There needs to be more Amy Grant's in the music industry. God Bless Amy, Vince, & all of their children!!!

In my opinion, the best song Amy Grant ever did.....this song crossed-over into pop but she never strayed too far from her roots. Always true to herself.
This song has always been one of my favorite songs from Heart In Motion. My first concert was Amy Grant's Heart In Motion concert in Cedar Rapids, IA. I was 13 years old and it was an amazing concert. At the end (in the parking lot) I started to sing That's What Love Is For. Amy's concerts are so much fun!

I'm not a religious person, but religious songs (like this one) are the best of all. They're about pure, untainted love; nothing to gain or lose, no sexual feelings or otherwise. They're the most authentic and, hence, the best.

I just woke up from a dream. In this dream a young woman, like my sister, but not my sister was weeping. With brotherly love I embraced her and started singing this song. She tried to push away, embarassed, upset that it was public area, wanting to cling to her despair. I just held her closer and sang even harder. Some people looked at me like I was crazy, but I sang louder, with more heart. There was a choir nearby practicing another song and saw me singing as held this woman with the compassion of a brother who wished to heal this woman's mental and emotional wounds. They saw I sang harder and louder as people just walked by, so this choir began singing it with me, in harmony. With all these people singing, this woman finally gave into sweet release, accepting that she was loved, stopped fighting and hugged me hard in return and wept. Not sadness. She wept tears of sweet release. Tears of realization. We just sang harder, until literally everyone around got caught up and we were all singing. Every person that passed by caught the bug of love and praise and just became filled with peace and joy; Random people celebrating God's Love. I let the woman go, who wiped a tear from her eye, free of her burden. People were shouting and celebrating everwhere around me. Some people tried to get my attention to pander to me about commercialization, but I walked on. Another offered me food, which I accepted and ate. I saw my Aunt and Uncle, and being part Laotion, I sat cross legged on the ground and asked for Sticky Rice, eating a meager meal of sticky rice, egg, and asking for some Lao Sausage (My Favorite). As I was eating people were meeting and greeting each other, and some walked by and I overheard them saying, "There he is, that person is going places...." I just wanted to share this, as I only remember this song as a child from the 90's, and actually disliked it. Yet, I chose to sing this to the woman, and without embarassment, despite my lack of singing ability, I kept singing. To see so many people let go of hate, anger, bear, bias; Black and White strangers hugging and greeting each other as brothers, old, young, Asian, Hispanic, Men, Women, all drop the differences and unite over love. My heart was elated. Random dream. Weird, but powerful. I realize this song is angellic, and it is truly what the world needs today. We need love, God's love, which WILL bring is back to our senses. I hope this song get's a revival, and just catches on like wildfire, spreading over the Earth. We need to hear these words. Maybe that is who the woman was, in my dream: A world burdened by fear, woe, a world which believes we are hated. We need let go of our fear, hate, pain, and not only give love but accept that we are loved. To accept, give, and celebrate God's love. To see souls unite and become healed, unafraid of all that Satan threw at us... I woke up with wonder and tears in my eyes, minutes ago, and became compelled to listen to this song and type this message. May God bless you, me, and all of us with his Love. God is Wisdom, Power, Truth...but all flof these only exist, for us, because most of all, God is Love.
I don’t know how long ago this was written, but this made me cry. What a great testimony! 👍👏🏻🙏🏻 I hope you’re doing well and thank you for sharing this. My daughter suffered with bullying as well. How awful! 😰 Well done you!!! God’s blessings. 🙏🏻 I’m a Christian too! ❤
it was released in November of 1991 it from Amy's album heart in motion .which was recorded in 1990 so i guess the song was written around that period.
I have learned what love is for because I was in a serious relationship that I was not ready for and have went through a lot of ups and downs leaving the woman that I was in love with and in the end we were meant to be together so I have become the man that she needed and I am proud of that.

Amy Grant is considered part of the early Christian Rock Era.......guess I'm old enough remember when she first came out and the jokes about her!! Stay blessed......... and not so serious too.
@Arikm7 Geez....I'm NOT Jewish, but I get enough ignorant comments from White folks that you would think I was!! You sadly show your ignorance of American music.
@ that's pretty small minded of you to say. You assume all these years later that she isn't a Christian. Why, because of who she married? Do you not think that is between her and God? I have no doubt she will take that up with him if she hasn't already. That's not our place to judge.
Congratulations to the author of this melody made with much feeling and emotion! Thanks to the musical director for the enormous caliber of making the charm of each selected instrument very evident! A huge and sincere congratulations to Miss Grant for enriching the melody with her always elegant presence-especially when he did a duet with Mr. Cetera-which also transmits all the charm that romantic melodies have! Thank you!
@AmyGrantOfficial002 Answering your question I can only say that I have recently discovered American singers for having been working night and day shifts but since this retired I can already meet different singers and groups (.) One of your songs is titled with the idea that Jesus was our friend but I would like to know what would you ask him if you could have dinner with him? Thank you BCN
Sometimes we make it harder than it is We'll take a perfect night And fill it up with words we don't mean Dark sides best unseen And we wonder why we're feeling this way Sometimes I wonder if we really feel the same Why we can be unkind Questioning the strongest of hearts That's when we must start Believing in the one thing that has gotten us this far That's what love is for To help us through it That's what love is for Nothing else can do it Melt our defenses Bring us back to our senses Give us strength to try once more Baby, that's what love is for Sometimes I see you And you don't know why I'm there And I'm washed away by emotions I hold deep down inside Getting stronger with time It's living through the fire And holding on we find That's what love is for To help us through it That's what love is for Nothing else can do it Melt our defenses Bring us back to our senses Give us strength to try once more Baby, that's what love is for Believing in the one thing That has gotten us this far That's what love is for To help us through it That's what love is for Nothing else can do it Round off the edges Talk us down from the ledges Give us strength to try once more Baby, that's what love is for That's what love is for That's what love is for Melt our defenses Bring us back to our senses Give us strength to try once more Baby, that's what love is for That's what love is for That's what love is for That's what love is for

Very talented and great voice. Lord blessed her with the tools and she really put them to use. Still listening to this 2019. I'm 46 but this music take me back to an amazing era that I feel lucky to be part of. People love each other no matter what is going on in the world. No time to be bitter about anything. Life is too short.
Outstandingly beautiful song and singer. Totally relevent today as my son had announced my daughter in law and he are divorcing. I wish his dad was alive to talk to him as he would know what to say to comfort them both.👏🍀

As I was eating people were meeting and greeting each other, and some walked by and I overheard them saying,
"There he is, that person is going places...."
I just wanted to share this, as I only remember this song as a child from the 90's, and actually disliked it.
I hope you’re doing well and thank you for sharing this. My daughter suffered with bullying as well. How awful! 😰
Well done you!!!
God’s blessings. 🙏🏻 I’m a Christian too! ❤
it was released in November of 1991 it from Amy's album heart in motion .which was recorded in 1990 so i guess the song was written around that period.
One of my best songs so far
I have learned what love is for because I was in a serious relationship that I was not ready for and have went through a lot of ups and downs leaving the woman that I was in love with and in the end we were meant to be together so I have become the man that she needed and I am proud of that.

The 90's is the GOLDEN ERA of pop ballads.
This is one of my favorite songs.
I remember hearing this song a lot as a kid. But I had no idea Amy Grant sang it until a few days ago 😇
Love the Lord your God with all your heart. Your soul your mind,!!V.Camillone
My favorite song from the early Christian rock era......love Amy. Love the lyrics.
Oy Vey Lori. can you contain your Talmudism for one minute???
and what about the red robes and a pair of gloves with pentagram on its palm? Is any body doesn't know that its a very basic symbol of satanism?
Amy Grant is considered part of the early Christian Rock Era.......guess I'm old enough remember when she first came out and the jokes about her!! Stay blessed......... and not so serious too.
@Arikm7 Geez....I'm NOT Jewish, but I get enough ignorant comments from White folks that you would think I was!! You sadly show your ignorance of American music.
Early Christian rock? This is Satanic.
Amy Grant was hot in this video! She made great songs in the 90s! God bless her!
green dragon3425 Guy in the video is pretty hot also.
@ that's pretty small minded of you to say. You assume all these years later that she isn't a Christian. Why, because of who she married? Do you not think that is between her and God? I have no doubt she will take that up with him if she hasn't already. That's not our place to judge.
@ Sick extremist people like you makes the world a worse place to live
NORMALIZATION OF IGNORANCE you aren’t who to say that, only God know about her heart.
@ lol Wow!!! She is pretty.... Easy on the Attack yeah?
We need these kind of music back to the new age. I really miss these songs.

Thank you!

Answering your question I can only say that I have recently discovered American singers for having been working night and day shifts but since this retired I can already meet different singers and groups (.)
One of your songs is titled with the idea that Jesus was our friend but I would like to know what would you ask him if you could have dinner with him? Thank you

I love this song, its totally epic. Amy Grant is amazing.
Sometimes we make it harder than it is
We'll take a perfect night
And fill it up with words we don't mean
Dark sides best unseen
And we wonder why we're feeling this way
Sometimes I wonder if we really feel the same
Why we can be unkind
Questioning the strongest of hearts
That's when we must start
Believing in the one thing that has gotten us this far
That's what love is for
To help us through it
That's what love is for
Nothing else can do it
Melt our defenses
Bring us back to our senses
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for
Sometimes I see you
And you don't know why I'm there
And I'm washed away by emotions
I hold deep down inside
Getting stronger with time
It's living through the fire
And holding on we find
That's what love is for
To help us through it
That's what love is for
Nothing else can do it
Melt our defenses
Bring us back to our senses
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for
Believing in the one thing
That has gotten us this far
That's what love is for
To help us through it
That's what love is for
Nothing else can do it
Round off the edges
Talk us down from the ledges
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for
That's what love is for
That's what love is for
Melt our defenses
Bring us back to our senses
Give us strength to try once more
Baby, that's what love is for
That's what love is for
That's what love is for
That's what love is for

This song is so Romantic and Pretty to me!
I Love it!!! 🌻🌄🌿❤
It's so very fitting that she's a Christian singer because she's such an angel.
She's a great Christian singer. Who cheated on her husband. Before they were actually divorced. Amy Grant is the best.🤔
@@joeadler5379She did not cheat on her husband. She did not start dating Vince Gill unto after she was divorced for over a year. Her ex-husband had issues with drugs.
@@joeadler5379 He divorced his 1st wife in 1997. She divorced her 1st husband in June 1999. It was a few months later when they began dating. They married in March 2000.
I like the MTV and the song. Amy grant is the right singer for this song.
9/22/22. Thank you K-Love 88.9 Myrtle Beach for playing this all time great song. Happy 1st Day of Autumn
Amy Grant thank you. We do make it harder sometimes. Just enjoy life and enjoy the people in your life. And trust in God with all your heart.
Listening from Solomon Islands 🇸🇧 in December 2020. Still the best...
Who's listening in Jan 2024?❤

Oh Gosh Ami Grant 😘
they don't make great music or videos like this anymore. This was such quality.
Outstandingly beautiful song and singer. Totally relevent today as my son had announced my daughter in law and he are divorcing. I wish his dad was alive to talk to him as he would know what to say to comfort them both.👏🍀
Love never fails. Always rejoice! You have to be able to keep your joy and happiness throughout this pandemic. We’re at the end! Be courageous! 😉
