    As an owner of the blue Eichii II, I can vouch how deep and complex that porcelain dial is…unlike any I’ve seen; none of the pictures I’ve seen did it justice. The movement finishing is better than any watch I’ve owned and challenge anyone to find beveling deeper and more refined than this movement. The price point…well, probably not for everyone.

    Funny this should pop up, I just bought a Seiko Presage Arita Porcelain SPB171 and absolutely love it. The porcelain dial is very reflective and catches the light, giving it an almost wet finish, and the dial hands have a gemstone finish, going from dark blue to bright blue when the sun hits them at the right angle. I have to say I've spent a lot of time just staring at the dial. Very pleased with my purchase, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

    Wearing my Credor Eichii II "GBLT997" while watching this video, The Credor is a very very amazing watch, you can see the white dial's edges disappear while moving the watch like an eclipse! The Persage is such an amazing watch for the cost though.

    Also, the no date is rare for Seiko and really enhances the dial. Another winner from Seiko.

    I'm a huge fan of Grand Seiko and currently own two of their models. Having said that, I'm not fully on board with the Credor line price point. At what point (under X magnification) does the finishing of the case/dial/materials taper off and become only bragging rights? Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but most Credor watches I've seen come across boring... I'll take a Lange over one.

    • @fretr1pper618
      @fretr1pper618 2 роки тому +9

      Agreed. I own GS as well and I find the credor line boring as well. The best looking credor watches I have seen are 2nd hand and around 3k or less.

    I could absolutely see myself owning this watch. Seiko has absolutely been making some moves and i am completely into it. It's not easy to change a collective perception of a brand but, they've won me over BIG TIME. In my Chrono24 "Clipboard" i think i have more Seiko's, Grand Seiko's and Credor there than i do everything else combined. From expensive quartz Grand Seiko's to Credor Spring Drive models to straight up Seiko's that have amazing dials like this one you showcased here........although, it's nice to see the roman numerals on this kind of dial material. SEIKO equates to QUALITY and CRAFTSMANSHIP in my eyes now, absolutely, 100%. And if i'm being completely honest with you.....i kinda get off on the fact that when others see me wearing something with the Seiko name on it, they think it's cheaper than it is. "Ya it's just a Seiko" when little do most know, this 2022 Grand Seiko Spring Drive diver costs more than the car they're driving.
    I'm all for Seiko Corporation and everything they're doing. I AM......a Seikopath.

    I normally hate Romans on a dial, but in this case, they're thin enough to not be obnoxious (COUGH, Tudor...) and I wouldn't mind owning this Presage. Like Tom hinted at, that price point for the Seiko brand "prestige" continues to give pause.

    I’ve never held a Credor, or even seen one in the wild. But I have been, and remain, a huge fan of the Presage and Alpinist lines. This one is very nice. I’m not a Roman numerals fan, but I like these. Thin and tall reminds me a bit of the Cellini that Mr Hands liked in a previous video. BTW, Tom is right about Seiko up-marketing. Orient will be the budget line…

    Thank you so much for looking into the Seiko Arita Porcelain dial watch models! I believe they have evolved since their past iterations and the no date version maintains the integrity of the porcelain dial much better.
    To look at something new, please consider the “Light Blue” Grand Seiko SBGH297 released today? Is this a coincidence or a response to the rising popularity of the Tiffany Blue colour?

    And a while ago, when I made a comment that the problem with the Credor is that, without a nice loupe, you wont be able to see why the Credor costs that much money. Some people were quick to call me out for that is my lack of "taste". Well this video proves my point. And my point was not about snobbery, but from a business point of view in branding, why Seiko struggles to sell super high end watches, because it also makes unbelievably good value entry watches. It's like selling rolls royces beside Kia's (and yeah Kia's are much more reliable than rolls royces).

    • @SuperMrgentleman
      @SuperMrgentleman 7 місяців тому

      Holding a solid platinum Eichi II with spring drive movement and the hand-paintdd dial doesn't require a jeweler's loupe to appreciate the fact you're holding something other than an ordinary steel Seiko.

    I think it's great that people can buy a mass produced version of a very high end hand made luxury design. I think Seiko have always been thoughtful in that way regarding accessibility...and are not stuck in the "we only made luxury products" for the very few....good on them!

    When conversations around cost of Eichi come up it would be interesting to note that the PD Simplicity cost about £30k when it came out. And it has a lacquered dial with printed indices for the white version. Here you’re getting ceramic (not even enamel) with hand painted indices, and finishing at least as good as the Simplicity. And good luck getting a Simplicity for less than £1m now.

    The blue one (SPB319J1) is on my someday list - the look of it is just sublime. I do wish it was thinner, which would be more in line with the elegance of the numerals. Also wish it was cheaper, but I guess we're paying for everything that goes into making the dial.

    Recently I’ve felt silly for wanting a Seiko Dolce with the 8J41 quartz movement (three hands, no day or date, 10 seconds/year thermocompensated, around US$350 imported from Japan): sort of the cheap high-accuracy-quartz version of these things only less beautiful and exotic. Low-rent version of the same appeal.

    • @liquidtunes
      @liquidtunes 2 роки тому +3

      I don't think you should feel silly. It's natural to progress with taste as exposure and knowledge grows, and hopefully the ability to spend too. I didn't know of the Dolce but having looked it up, it's fine on its own right. "Lesser" artistry commensurate with a lower price has its own charm and deserves respect too. Or else we'd be left with a world where only the exquisite is given value. Take your time, buy what you can or save if need be and enjoy the journey :)

    6R31 movement should be scaled up in production and made affordable. But, in reality, the movement just keeps creeping up in pricing! The 9R series will never made it into the $1000-2000 at this rate.

    But is the movement just some rough looking off the shelf plus minus 25 second thing? 🤔
    BTW the close ups of Credor indexes and text look cheap. 😮

    If they're going for Eichi language why not delete the "Presage" and "Automatic" references?

    I have just totally fallen for these watches, and I can see one in my collection. But which one 🤔.
    Until I can see them in the flesh I cannot choose.

    Credor is on a completely different level. Those watches are superb. But seriously, nobody is gonna say anything about the number 4? It’s supposed to be written IV, why it’s like IIII?? I suppose it has a reason… right? 🤨
