Istria County, Croatia - Pula, Rovinj, and Motovun; three incredible destinations on the Istrian Peninsula of Croatia. The western coast of Croatia is home to the beautiful region of Istria, which is often overlooked by Croatian tourists.

After leaving the capital of Zagreb, we set out on our Croatian road trip, and our first stop was Pula. Luckily, we had a wonderful local Croatian friend Renata, to take us around the Pula Arena and give a quick tour of Pula. We eat a traditional Croatian lunch, and enjoy some delicious gelato before having to leave Pula for Rovinj.

From Pula, we checked into our accommodation in Rovinjsko Selo, nearby the popular Rovinj, Croatia, and then drove into Rovinj for sunset. Rovinj is such a beautiful little city. It is also more popular for travelers than Pula.
The next morning, we leave Rovinj for Motovun to experience an Istria Food Tour around the amazing Istrian countryside with Eat Istria ( eatistria.com).
Our day started at the foothills of Motovun; a fairytale-like village in Istria. We started at Mira Tartufi farm, before heading out into the Istrian forest to hunt for truffles!

After the first leg of our Istria food tour, we leave Motovun and drive through the Istrian countryside to try some delicious and overwhelming, haha, goat cheeses!

Finally, we finish our Istria food tour with lunch at a traditional Croatian Konoba - or local farm-to-table tavern. We try fresh pasta and meats that are 100% from this farm. Amazing!

We finish the day back in Rovinj for sunset again. I join my local friend Ella for more delicious gelato at her favorite spot right in the heart of Rovinj old town and then we hangout along the coast.

I’m loving Croatia. I have never thought about this country, but it reminds me of my home state, California. It has riches around every corner. This is one for my bucket list.
A lot of Dalmatians actually moved to California at the beginning of the 20th century. They've estalished a lot of vineyards in the Napa valley.

Absolutely beautiful! I've seen lots of images of Croatia, but this video shows off just how gorgeous this part of the country is. Wow! I had no idea the largest Roman colosseum in the world is there. And the food looks unreal. So many amazing pasta dishes!
Its not the largest Roman colosseum, he messed up there. Its actually the 6th largest but its the best preserved one.

I visited the southern region of the country called Dalmatia, flew into Zadar and went to Dubrovnik over 3 weeks but there's so much more to see! There just wasn't enough time to see it all, I haven't even seen the South properly yet. Next year I'm going to this western part which you portrayed so wonderfully...and hopefully I'll do proper island hopping!

You have to go, fkn amazing place of beauty, great people, amazing food and a super safe country
Be aware of Taxi drivers and tiefs on the beach. We didnt ask abot the price from airport in Split to Bashka Woda, which was 68km, and finaly there he said 4500 kuna, around 620 us dollars. Evrything ended in fight between us where police came and asked him "HOW 4500 and why you doing this". Both of us has been placed in polisstation for 4 hours. In the end the price was 1600 kuna,,,,,,, still very high in the country where people earn around 5000kuna in the months....👎👎👎👎

I am glad to see that you went to the Stancija Kumparička. If you managed to come earlier to Pula that day I would have take you to the fresh food market where they sell the Kumparička goat cheese, so you make a little contribution to their selling point in too. But anyway, you were lucky enough to see how they produce it. I love their cheese.

Greece is on Peleponisian peninsula,while Croatia is on Istrian peninsula,Ukraine is on Crimean peninsula.That's the truth.

Pula is awesome! Restaurant Veritas is top notch quality fine dining with reasonable prices. Service is friendly and familiar, an al-around must visit spot in Pula! Daniel the waiter (and future owner) and his mom and dad are awesome and kind people. Smaller family restaurant at it's best!
Now I am hungry with all these food. Very nice, I've lived in a Tuscan themed property before. Growing lots of tomatoes and Basil.. no truffles though in this side of the world. Very nice! 🤩🤩🤩 Place

You have to, no need for a guide, almost all Croatians speak English, you will enjoy it more this way, do and go as you please

That colosseum was amazing, yet a bit expensive to go inside .The truffles looked good .I never had them just the truffle oil on french fries.The goat cheese looked interesting but not a fan of "stinky" cheese. I love how you really try to capture the country, culture and people.
It gets me mad and sad to see that Istrian restaurants had jumped on that band wagon. Everyone offer truffle meals, pasta, oil... That is all fake there is no that much of real truffles. Summer black truffle is like potato, they give them flavor with artificial sinthetic chemicals. 2,4 dithiapentane is the main and it is made from oil(the one from wich gass is made) . There is no way to store truffle or his flavor. So oils, cheese, pasta and everything has artificial flavor. All restaurants that serve meal with truffle outside truffle season use that. Real truffles are so expensive first of all. It goes for 100€ a gram. And they last for a couple days. Not many people had real truffles so when they actually try real they think they are being scamed because flavor isn't that strong. All truffle regions do that.
9€ is not expensive to walk around, inside and in underground of Arena Pula...

What an experience! I love, love, love that all the foods are crafted locally with a passion for the land.
