I wish I could afford a nice splitter. When I looked through your eyes and got a glimpse of your soul, I saw a good man. I would give anything to own one of your splitters. I know I'd never have to worry about splitting ever again. (At 63 with a heart condition, I can tell you it doesn't get any easier!) Happy belated Veteran's Day to all of my fellow Veterans! 🇺🇸

I live in Townsville, Australia and am looking for a log splitter. Your video confirms what my mechanic said to me 25 odd years ago..."The Americans say there is no substitute for cubic inches" That is as true for hydraulics as it is for engines.
    Thanks for your straight shooting.

The reason people watch shows on youtube is to get and see the facts, not what the adds for products claim, this is why the old fashioned media is dying a fast death, the public want the facts from someone they trust and can believe. Truth and facts always win. Thanks Andrew!!!

I see the big box splitters being advertised as 25-35 tons constantly. I've run them and they are nowhere near as fast or powerful as my 14 ton Ultra but people get snowed by those numbers and buy a product based on it. The Ultra has been a total game changer in my little firewood business and my improved success is a direct result of your work Andrew. Thank you! Dave

My 28-ton commercial grade splittet SMOKES any box store splitter rated at the same tonnage. I can push straight-grained oak measuring 20-24in through a 12-way wedge. On a 28-ton machine. As Andrew knows quite well, it takes a serious a.ount of power to push wood through a 12-way wedge. No way are the box store splitters pushing out 28 tons.

Andrew you’re right, you can’t make an educated decision if you don’t have accurate data. Anyone who has done their own research and run an Axis and the competitors units can confirm what you’ve said. You not only make the best horizontal splitter in the industry but you’ve identified all the shortcomings of the competitions vertical splitter and made huge improvements. Thanks for making a great product! 👍TCT

I've been talking to friend 400 miles north of me. He likes the Axis model. I like the 1222. A man can stand at both machines. The 1222 is easier cost affordability but more work. No conveyer though :-( The conveyor makes processing way easier with the Axis. Your machines are wonderful.

Hey Andrew, I love the vertical split concept. We used a homemade horizontal splitter I built for years. Had a log loader on it, but it was a deathtrap and I'm lucky someone in the family didn't get maimed or killed. When I retired in 2015 I bought a Northern Tools deluxe 37 ton horizontal splitter with a GX390 Honda and that motor has never worked hard a day in its life. Have no idea if it puts out 37 ton, but it splits gnarly buckskin black oak like butter. Still say if I had to do it over again I would be knocking on your door. Good videos and great content, keep them coming!

Great video Andrew. Campbell and Hausfeld compressor tried the same thing years ago. They had a line of compressors ranging from 2hp all the way to 7.5 hp all on a 20 amp plug. A 5 HP on 240 would take 25 amps.
Man you can't piss what you don't drink. The Chinese manufacturers are famous for false advertising. Just look at King woodworking machinery. Eventually people catch on.
    Keep up the good work.

  • @marcellemay7721
    @marcellemay7721 8 місяців тому

Given the same HP and pump flow rate and pressure settings, We come to a quandary about performance. There are other things like flow restrictions in the system IE: larger diameter hoses and ports. The ton rating becomes a matter of cylinder size...larger in diameter it is , the greater the tonnage capacity. Cycle time is a function of the cylinder size also...the smaller in diameter, the faster it will be. 2 stage pumps, I believe is a necessity on a log splitter because you can get the the higher flow rates/low pressures for speed when you need them and the high pressure/ low flow rates for power... and it shifts when needed. The tonnage ratings from most other manufacturers are greatly exaggerated across the board. It's a simple matter of doing the math to see who's telling the truth and who's not. I'm an engineer so it's very simple for me to do. But, anyone that knows how to figure the surface area of a circle and the volume of a cylinder can do the math for any given cylinder and pump flow rate and pressure. The internet and a calculator is your friend.

We’ve got the same issue here in New Zealand. The log splitter ratings make no sense. Take a 3000psi max pump with a 4” ram gives 19us tons according to basic math. They call a 25t splitter. But here in everyone uses a similar exaggerating rate, so, strangely, you can compare the units again.

1/10/23; Andrew I am not a wood cutter or splitter, but am impressed with quality equipment you are using in your machines. Also your (eastern?) Canadian 'accent', inflection, arm motions emphasis & staccato pauses make your videos... 'ear-grabbing'...maybe little bit unusuall..but always very plesant to hear! Your sincerety comes through! Now, it looks very cold outside in your wood yard, so before you begin to film for we YT viewers, what do you put in your coffee ☕ before you face the cold Canadian weather & 'warm up' before starting your camera? Son, you sound kind da 'wound-up'..but it's a 👋 good, human characteristic. Also I think if anybody is going to do firewood, man they need your complete log 🎢 rack, single (straight?) log feed into size selector, big round wheel cutter, then 6-8-10 (12?) piece splitter then conveyor to ...trailor..bunker..basket etc. That is absolutely the total package! Oops..forgot the operators enclosed cabin with all those controls. Just an awesome & complete package way to go! Thx Andrew for educating all we outdoor lovers on mighty fine wood splitting equipment..from small lift-it-up-to-you units..then you man handle it...all the way up to that commercial 'it-does-everything' unit. Phew, too much typing...now I gotta get some ☕!👍👍👍👏⚙️😊

Love the cut and dry presentation. I ll remember it if ever my 1980 iron and oak 22 ton ever breaks such that it is not repairable. Have you ever thought of upgrade kits and parts for other splitters that would help approach the cycle times of your splitters. Many people may actually pay up for your formula of performance that may not want or need or be able to afford a new machine? Or maybe that info is out there And I just have not found it yet not that I have really looked lol. Good luck in this new year of ours!!!!!

Thank you. I would like to know if you make a 30 ton axis. I have been wondering about this cause I been watching and listening

Its not necessary. The axis will split whatever you put on it.

Can you put a log lift on both side on the axis if you dont do a conveyor?

Andrew I really appreciate you and your feedback on the tonnage for splitters. I’m an inpatient person so I couldn’t weight for how long it would take to get a log splitter from you guys. In all I really want a 12-22 or a size smaller from you guys. Been my first choice since I started firewood

I'm going to sell my 12-22 this season. It just sits since I bought an Axis. Has single, 4, 6, and box wedge. Does not have a pull back arm nor the pusher that would attach the arm. I'm told it can be configured for a pull back arm. 10,500. Eastern PA.

Just a question , not a knock. It appears your cylinder is tilted, is it, or just the camera angle?

Wood spitter and chainsaw are some time are not true on there number 😊. Andrew you just keep put out a strong wood spitter with strong Steel and welder all that counts.

Andrew have you ever thought about making a four way to replace the single wedge on that or a 6 way. Just curious if it would work on that piston.

How does it handle real wood? I can split pine with a hatchet! Let's see some hedge, hickory or any of the oaks. Not water oak??

Simply stated: a more inefficient process I cannot imagine...if the goal is minimal touching/handling of the wood, how is this anything but a major fail.

Not quite sure what to say to this. Its been a while since i have watched the video in its entirety, however i typically state that there are significantly more efficient machines, but hardly any that offers more precision. Thank you for your feedback
