I recently purchased the R6, and it so different to the 5D IV. Great information from Roberto about the menu system and explaining why he has changed some of the default setting. There are many videos about this out there, but this is a no-brainer. I have followed Roberto for years, he is a great photographer, educator and inspiration.
Roberto, Absolutely loved this series. You got me shooting within 12 hours on my new R6 ready for my next job. Big thanks One correction though on the R6 Settings the Ability to set C1, C2, C3 on your M-FN button is not available. This additional operation setting is for the R5 body only. A shame really, but It is easily fixed by just making one of the buttons be able to scroll the Crop factor manually. Cheers for the tutorials You are a champion!

I have a new R6 and you have helped me hugely with your series on Menu settings, Roberto. Not only a great photographer, which I've seen in some of your other videos, but an excellent and thorough teacher too. Much appreciation!
About 25 years ago I took the focusing screens out of my film cameras and scratched lines on them to show the 4x5 (8x10) crop area in my viewfinders. I did a lot of weddings back then and had to be careful and keep what I needed inside that boundary. So many features in these cameras, it's just great.
Just a FYI If you use lens like a Lensbaby Lens that have aperture values on the lens, not in camera, you have to set the Release Shutter w/o lens to on for those creative lens to work. Since you said you didn't know why you would want that I just thought you might find that interesting. These are great videos thanks you very much for this.
it is a great camera. I happen to own the r5 now. I can tell you, the autofocus is a true gamechanger for wildlife and Persons! For still objects im not as compelled yet, as I have just tried to take some close ups and the servo af did not want to focus properly at close range. With manual focus I could get much closer to the object - which Is why I watch this video to put different autofocus settings into custom function settings.
@@bechti44 For still subjects, switch to One Shot. If you use Servo, the camera will keep searching for a spot to focus on-it has no way of knowing where you want to put the focus point.
"Release shutter w/o lens" is used when someone adapts an older lens, maybe a Canon FD lens. Used to be a popular thing to do. I think you might need it for something like a Lensbaby too.

Awesome series and excellent photographer and educator who I been following and learning from for some now! This absolutely helped speed up the process getting to know my canon R5 so thank for that! The only issues I ran into is that my lens ring dial in my canon RF 24-70 2.8 L IS doesn’t seem to work with exposure compensation nor color temperature but all other functions do. Ugh Any help with that would be so appreciated!

Great video - thank you so much. I use “Release shutter w\o lens” when adapting my manual focusing Leica M lenses to my R5. Without this setting I will not be able to take any pictures. The function of this setting is then more than just to look cool :)
Yeah I recently learned the use of this function because I got an ultra macro without any electronic. I was freaking out for a bit thinking I had a defective lens :p

Hi Roberto. Just want to first say thank you for your tutorials. They have helped me out a lot. After watching this video, I customize most of my settings very similar to yours. There is one question that I have. Towards the end of the video you talked about the camera’s cropping and aspect ratio and you have yours set to 4:3. In the video it looks like it shows you the two bars for where the 4:3 is and then just outside of those two black bars you can still see where the rest of the picture will be and it’s translucent. How did you get it to be translucent? On mine it’s still showing that it’s blacked out on those sides?
Hello! Fantastic video. Can you tell me about in M mode I change shutters with wheels on top at the far end. and when I hold down the Star button and at the same time turn the same wheel I change the Blender. but a Star is lit and has managed to lower it from 8 seconds to 4. Is it so much easier to adjust shutter and aperture with the same wheel and not use the wheel in front. but why can't you turn off that star. etc. Gunnar
[Release Shutter Without Lense] I have a lens through the EF to RF adapter that when connected, the camera can't read the lens settings. It's a manual focus/apperature lens so the R6 would not shoot. With this on, it takes photos just fine since the settings on the lens are manual.

so its possible to cycle from a non custom mode (M/Av/Tv) to one or more custom modes by pressing the MFn button? (eg. M to C1 to C2 to M, or Av to C1 to Av)? that would solve the issue of slow mode changes with that electronic mode dial.

so, I understand the compellingness of manual settings. Just for such things like events or weddings I usually prefer manual aperture for the looks of the foto and let the camera handle light and speed. I feel like i would otherwise miss a lot of shots if action happens quickly. Why dont you do that?
Great video series. I rented both the R6 and R5 several times and ultimately decided on the R5. I frequently use lights on location and I assume you do as well. That made me wonder about your recommendation at 10:10 about switching the Safety Shift setting to ISO. That would be dangerous for me. Won't switching the Safety Shift (from OFF to ISO compensation) cause your photos to overexpose (because presumably you're often underexposing to coordinate with the lights)? Or do you just remember to disable it when you're using lights? Thanks.
Great tutorials, Roberto. I have my AF point selection button set up, but none of the scroll wheels allow me to choose a specific AF point style. I have to use the touch screen to select the one that I want. Surely I'm missing something here? In your video, I think you were using the top scroll dial to toggle between the enabled modes. Mine doesn't control the point selection.

In R6 option C is not available In R6 - I set C1 for crop/aspect ratio : 1: 6 as suggested, but, don't see a custom button option available for C1 to M-Fn. This is possible in R5. How do you do these settings?
Awesome video sets. My question is I set the depth of field view button to rec movie quick like you stated but it comes up as c3 movie record. The problem with that is I cant do a screen grab in c3. I have my record set to reg or auto and it records 8k when I record using the regular method.

@Roberto - In R6 How are you achieving M-fn: C (video clipping timing 23.29) . I don't see an option to use M-fn to set C . I set it up c1 to - cropping factor. but, not able use it using 1 click of custom button. M-fn: C is option is available in R5 not in R6. or anything I'm missing. Can you please guide . How are using quick crop ratio in your daily routine using 1 click in R6
Great video. 29:36 Yeah having this setting activated was kinda freaky when using EOS software but it doesn't apply the crop in Lightroom (current version)... for me so I continue to use the setting turned on for 4:5.
At 24:56 in the video you explain that you can use the wheel to go back and forth from single point focus and eye detection after hitting the far right button. I can see the two selections but the wheel won’t let me switch the focus points. What am I missing?
I have the same problem. Was driving me nuts. Barosmota above comment had a great work around. Choose "Direct AF method selection" instead of "AF Point Selection" and you will not have to use the front dial. It will switch automatically when you push the button. Takes away the extra step of having to use the dial.
Hi, thanks for the video. Helps for new r5 owners. Question: if you shoot RAW you can change your temp in post, right? so why do you bother adjusting kelvin with the lens ring?
Basically you are right. That's fine if you are changing the entire photo color temp. But in the case where you are using a flash the subject that is lit by the flash is going to be (at default) daylight while the rest of the scene -- thanks to inverse square law -- is going to be seen by whatever you've set the WB to. One can use this for some neat effects: say in twilight times, set your WB to Tungsten (around 3000K) and gel your flash with a CTO (Change to Orange) gel. So now you fire your flash and your subject is going to be tinted orange. But you have set your WB to tungsten (a kinda orangy light) so in post your software will see from the EXIF that you were in tungsten light and change everything to a cooler (blue) color. This brings your subject (remember it's orange from your gelled flash) back to daylight but the rest of your pic (which was out of range of the flash) gets a blue tinge and you can get some really nice sky effects.
I don’t see Mode listed as an operational function available for customization on the R6. Also no C1-C2-C3 for video on R6. Considering you’re a Canon brand ambassador, maybe you can serve up these deficiencies with Canon’s engineers.
Best settings? Only if you do weddings and portraits. But you’ve strangled this camera by locking out so many settings. Not a problem for you but your video title is really misleading.
Hi Colin, at the beginning of these videos I clearly say that these are settings for wedding and portrait photographers. If these settings don't work for you, don't use them. Simple. But I was very clear that all people should customize their settings to what works for them. That's why it's called "customizing" your camera. Cheers.

Best settings? Only if you do weddings and portraits. But you’ve strangled this camera by locking out so many settings. Not a problem for you but your video title is really misleading.
Hi Colin, at the beginning of these videos I clearly say that these are settings for wedding and portrait photographers. If these settings don't work for you, don't use them. Simple. But I was very clear that all people should customize their settings to what works for them. That's why it's called "customizing" your camera. Cheers.
