    Very insightful. As someone who was classically trained, I was taught not to use the mixed register. I am definitely going to try this!!

      That’s so sad ☹️ The mixed register is beyond important in any style of singing. So grateful for coaches who release this kind of free content 🙌🏽 check out Claire Hosterman on Instagram for some more mixed voice info as well! These videos and her’s have helped me so danged much.

      I thought that the purpose of classical technique was to establish one long range that you can sing through so that there are no breaks in register. Breaks in register are against the style of classical, thus I thought mixed register was almost a requirement?

    • @kimberlee9074
      @kimberlee9074 4 роки тому +26

      I wonder if i had a bad teacher?haha. I was told that I had to switch from chest voice to head voice and just back the power with diaphragm and breath control. I have always just felt defeated that my "chest voice" broke so low.

    • @PixieDustParticle
      @PixieDustParticle 4 роки тому +28

      Kimber Lyn yes, indeed. I do not necessarily want to judge anyone because some teachers are simply ignorant to how singing really works, but mixed voice is such a beautiful, massive, needed bridge and a big key to understanding and aiding proper placement. Singing is so much more than the diaphragm which is such a small piece of the puzzle especially if it is not properly explained. I believe the best teachers explain in much detail how every area of the body (no matter how small), works when vocalizing. Not to mention it makes singing a lot more fun and fascinating.

    this is SO helpful! i have a theory that ariana grande's voice naturally mixes and that's how she can sing notes that sound "belted" while going through the higher 5th octave!! I'm gonna be using this exercise a lot, thank you :)

    • @lolamiley

      Ariana definitely has a natural mix! She’s been singing most of her life so that’s why it sounds so effortless for her. I know a few people who have natural mixes and actually struggle to separate the registers

      @@lolamiley Everyone discovers their voice in their own way. Some of us, especially if we didn't know better, develop bad techniques in trying to emulate the singers we want to sound like. You can sing with bad technique your whole life. Or you might be someone who just happens upon good technique or is lucky enough to have coaching from an early age and learn the correct way from the beginning. I just want to point that out, in case someone who is just beginning on their singing journey thinks it's hopeless since they haven't been singing their whole life like Ariana. Being a beginner who hasn't spent years reinforcing bad habits is not a bad place to be.

      yep thats pretty much it. I can confirm the info here is good. I can now sing "Take on Me" with no vocal cracks in the chorus. I can also sing Muse songs because of this info.
      My range was before singing was a C2 to G4 which is an OK range but I wanted to sing Muse songs. My range now is from a C2 to a G#5 (I can hit an A5 but its a scream at that point, can't form words in an A5, The G#5 is the last note I can form words with) thats a pretty huge jump in range and it is all owed to UA-camrs sharing information.

For the past decade I have had many many teachers in all those different genres but no one has ever really understood what my underlying issue with my voice is since it has always seemed to work quite flawlessly. But when I tried this video I realized it was the registers and the head in particular, and no one has ever teached it in such a good way that you have here!! Not hanging on to a specific pitch, but letting the airflow glide along the range. This is how I have long conceptualized it, but have never heard any vocal coaches describe it as such. I remember few years ago myself changing to the Mix voice while I was on a recording session on a open A vowel right into the middle of a phrase , then my voice teacher let me know that I was transitioning so that helped to be aware of how my body reacts to the mix . Omg!! I am so happy I found your videos! I have watched many vocal training videos, and yes everyone uses pretty much the same scale, but this is the first time I felt like I was taking singing lessons again standing in front of the piano and going over breath work. The way you discuss and go through the notes, just brings a comfort level that is so important to vocal work. This is so lovely, and you are such a great teacher. Thank you for these exercises!

    I’ve seen so many videos on Mixed Voice and bcuz I am a direct person, a lot of the videos do not help bcuz they give you a round about way to get to the point and I get lost. This video was to the point and you focused on that throughout the entire video, really drilling it in. Thank you so much for this! ♥️🙏🏾

    Madeline Thank you for your insightful easy to understand explanation of a complex system , I love how you use visual gestures and center your prefrontal cortex , noise , mouth , and forehead , in control and direction of Tone , air pressure , and where your directing the sound and pitch . Thank You love you .

    I love your teaching style so much! Your explanations are so clear and understandable! I love how you are down to Earth and help me take the ego out of singing. You make it about the instrument and the logistics, not self-judgement.

    You are a beyond incredible teacher. I love your clear succinct direction that I can copy. And with this video u helped me solve a problem that I couldn’t find the answer to- I thought I had lost my ‘G’ ! Even thought of transposing all my songs to avoid it! Thank you so much for your generous contributions of your talents to us out here!

    This exercise actually works!!! I am able to identify my head voice from the mixed now! The mixed is like the strengthened version of the head voice...Out of all the exercise here in youtube, she explained this too well! Air control is the key to mix! Now I can sing Ashes without any strain 😱
