Glad to see someone not crying cause there were no infected in this episode. I think people forget the game is about the darkness of man when all hell breaks loose, it just happens to have infected in it. So many people complain about not enough monsters not realizing that we are the monsters. Great breakdown.
Also notice how they purposefully left the deer But choped the deas bodies ? 🤢 this just confirms they were doing this on purpose these are full grown men who can hunt but no they just turned everyone into cannibals 🤢
My god Ellie and Joel's care for eachother is so godamn wholesome. Ellie doing everything to take care of Joel, and Joel immediately going after her and comforting her god I love them.
That's the point. That is the moment that seals them as father and daughter. Especially on his end. The walls he put up since Sarah's death have come crashing down and he's put himself all out emotionally again to love this girl as his own.
David was always the part of the game that most stuck with me. Even more than the ending. The whole situation is just so very depraved, and unsettling. It just sticks with you. This show really nailed the tension of that scene between him, and Ellie in the burning restaurant. It's like the boss fight came to life.
Characters like this are often the most disturbing in post-apocalypse stories, because they're monsters who have been freed by the circumstances. Previously they had to hide their darkness to avoid punishment, but now they can run rampant and indulge their darkest desires to their hearts' content. Or it doesn't even have to be a post-apocalypse story, just the circumstances allowing their inner monster to come out. If anyone, David reminds me of Ralph Fiennes' Amon Goeth in "Schindler's List", using the cover of WWII and the Holocaust to indulge his true nature as a serial killer.
I think they should have made David even creepier. Sometimes it feels like they just aren't taking enough chances by pushing certain things a little farther. It's like they forget they are making it for HBO. I'm also disappointed they didn't fight any infected this episode. Killing infected in the snow would have been cool.
@@wendyc1902 talking about them not taking chances but they literally opted to show a sicko attempting to r&pe a 14 year old girl , the game implies that cause Ellie says “he tried to..” to Joel , but they went even harder in the paint in this show
13:49 I can't believe this went over my head. That James(Troy Baker) may have been trying to "save" Ellie that whole time from a worse fate with a quick death. I'm playing back all the scenes in my head of James and it kind of recontextualizes him. He looks at David with(mostly)fear, but also a hint of contempt. And him talking about "if we bring her back it's just going to be another mouth to feed..." was maybe him trying to convince David to let her go.
It's also not the first time that the sidekick or 2nd-in-command with a cooler head was not heeded by their commander. (See: Perry (Game Tommy!)/Kathleen).
David also had a notably larger portion at dinner compared to the others in his group. To me it shows he doesn’t care that he’s eating a human but also that he feels he deserves more as their leader.
Belle ramsey did amazing. she really brought me to tears with her portrayal. im a victim of SA and I comfort cried with her as soon as Joel gathered her up in his arms. Amazingly executed. So profound
It's the main scene from the game I was wanting to see. Ellie going ham on David and Joel calling her baby girl. And my second favorite scene was in the episode too. "Tell them Ellie is the little girl that broke your FUCKING FINGER!"
As a person who grew up without a dad, watching Joel being protective of Ellie really made me feel just how nice it'd be to have a father. It's like I can feel that sense of security Ellie felt when Joel was around.
Bella in this episode was incredible. If anyone had any doubts about her casting as Ellie, should eat those thoughts cause she's doing an amazing job!! ❤️
I’m a father of a 6yr old daughter. Right away I could sense that David was more than just a cannibal. He wanted Ellie as a prize for himself. My favorite episode of the season.
I love how Ellie had to save herself in the end. I would have ruined the episode if joel had killed David and saved her. Also, David had a way bigger portion then everyone else.

TLoU does a really good job of knowing when to show violence and gore and when to cut away or tone it down. Like showing how Joel went after the cannibals in the house serves to remind us that he wasn't always the kind hearted guy we see around Ellie, and the way they toned down Ellie's kills like with the henchman (who's death was rough but could have been fountains of blood and even more horrific) and the way the camera went to Ellie when she was finishing David off clued us in that she was operating completely out of fear and rage and that was what the viewers needed to follow.
Joel not actually saving her, and Ellie saving herself then he swoops in to emotionally save her so she doesn’t go off the deep end completely😢 excellent episode
Pedro Pascal is an AMAZING actor and this show delivers some of his best work ever. In this episode, Bella Ramsey...WOW...she was incredible in this episode.

Holy shit, this episode may have well jumped to as my favorite episode of the season right now and that’s with incredible episodes before. Troy as James was nice to see as well as David too and the episode was like one to one from the game. Bella and Pedro still solidify their statuses 💯
What I love about shows like this is that you get to see what happens to people when they are faced with a major catastrophe. We really haven’t seen a lot of the infected because they are really the secondary issue. It was the same reason I loved The Walking Dead.

It was absolutely outstanding. Also seeing the girl wanting revenge on Joel and Ellie for killing her dad was a nice hint for the future.
I got into a discussion with a few people in the comments in the last episodes video. I feel a lot of people wanted more action and I tried to explain it needed to be built up for more of a dramatic effect. It’s a lot more shocking and better for the story telling when you show an extreme that has not been shown in the show yet. I love how this show speeds up through the story as quick as it needs. No need for pointless build up. Just swift kills that make sense and fast development. This episode...wow...it just shows how inhuman can people get when they are desperate.
You mean Hannibal the cannibal? Or Joel torturing and killing people for answers? Or Ellie going full Gonzo butchering a guy with full on blood splatter?
Great episode! Really wish Pedro Pascal and Troy Baker would’ve duked it out though. Maybe have James be the last one he fights trying to get to Ellie, going full poppa bear mode on him.
I learned 2 things. Gingivitis is rampant and cannibals don't floss. Ellie's administration of penicillin had a 90% chance of killing Joel. That type of penicillin is an intramuscular injection. However, this was entertaining and I will just park the nurse in me and say I love this episode.

My humble insight: The Cordyceps did indeed provide, but in a different way. That is, penicillium is a type of fungus which this time saved Joel's life.
This is the Way! intense episode, for sure. I do like how they didn't go for the trope of Joel bursting in to save Ellie or stop her while she was out of control stabbing David. David was a creepy guy without a doubt.
It's not a "trope" it's just a detail. If anything the portrayal of David as a religious person is a trope. In fact, that's the only part that is thoroughly a trope.
Having never seen or played the game (yet) I’ve been hoping for an episode to really take this show to a new level of awesome. You hinted but never gave away what should be forthcoming, and for me tonight paid off this season in a big way! ❤❤❤! Thanks as always for your show!
I literally spent this entire episode yelling, "Good girl Ellie, Good girl Ellie....." Until the end when Joel said the same thing to her, that he did to his daugher all the way back in episode 1, at that point I started crying. I also don't get why Cultipedo didn't just say, "Oh if we let her get the guy well, we'll have that much more food to eat? When he's back on his feet, we take them both out."
It seems like James knows David plans to take Ellie as a bride since he calls her "another mouth to feed" instead of referring to her as food (James was about to help him chop her up so he definitely knows)
Legit waited till today to watch so I can double dip on Pedro shows. As traumatic as it was man Ellie’s acting deserves an Emmy. Shit had me so scared for her. Also Joel getting up and eventually torturing those dudes was so bad ass. You go Papa Pedro💪🏿
When Ellie kicks the food and tells David they are eating people, he says it was a Last Resort ( i connect it with movie Wrong Turn Last Resort which also had cannibalism)

Didn’t play the games so when they brought the deer in I thought it was an editing mistake like the sound guys in that one shot a couple episodes ago 😂
This is the most gripping episode so far!!
I was watching with my arms wrapped around my body, rocking back and forth... The suspense!!!!
What an episode.. they did the game justice, for sure.
Thank you Charlie for all of your Emergency Awesome breakdowns on all of the different popular media!
I was wondering that too so where would u inject it at which muscle if it is a muscle lol
I had some concern for Joel at that point too.
@kyleallen7806 if it was me I would have went for the butt with a roll to the side. Or a hip one.
At the end Joel says Baby girl, same think he said to his daughter at the first episode. The sequence also show you Joel's watch while their are huggin as a reference and a flashback to her daughter.
When they first met he says you're just cargo. But now he's fully embraced her.
I need a two hour season finale
The finale will be shorter
@@emergencyawesome so a hour? Either way a amazing show and I am ready to count down the days for season two lol. Keep up the great work brother ,love the content .
@@rakeemjonesyeet1233 only 43 minutes for thr finale
@@nancyturner217 43 confirmed confirmed?
@@nancyturner217 dam shitty
My humble insight: The Cordyceps did indeed provide, but in a different way. That is, penicillium is a type of fungus which this time saved Joel's life.
Ayoooo u covered that perfectly!!! On point with most of what I was thinking n thank you bro
This is the Way! intense episode, for sure. I do like how they didn't go for the trope of Joel bursting in to save Ellie or stop her while she was out of control stabbing David. David was a creepy guy without a doubt.
omg i love mandalorian lol
It's not a "trope" it's just a detail. If anything the portrayal of David as a religious person is a trope. In fact, that's the only part that is thoroughly a trope.
"she's a cargo" "she's not my daughter" "i ain't your dad".... to "baby girl" 😭 stoooop
Having never seen or played the game (yet) I’ve been hoping for an episode to really take this show to a new level of awesome. You hinted but never gave away what should be forthcoming, and for me tonight paid off this season in a big way! ❤❤❤! Thanks as always for your show!
I like how the hideout for the cannibals was a steakhouse / chophouse
This show just gets better and better and better. I can't wait till the next episode drops
Ellie and Joel this episode their acting spoke VOLUMES!!! Hats off to them, all the actors and the director! Bravo guys! 👏👏👏🫡🫡🫡
They correctly assessed the guy as being dangerous.
It seems like James knows David plans to take Ellie as a bride since he calls her "another mouth to feed" instead of referring to her as food (James was about to help him chop her up so he definitely knows)
I’m glad Ellie & Joel found each other.
Probably my favourite episode because we see both Ellie and Joel absolutely kick ass
These violent delights have violent ends.
What a missed opportunity I was REALLY hoping for Pedro Pascal to interrogate Troy Baker.
This episode is terrifying! David is so much creepier than the infected!
That's the idea, he's meant to be worse than the infected.
Dude I fuckin cried n was so emotional at the end. I was angry, then happy n immediately sad. Best episode, hell, best series of the year.
The game did that part better
He was a good horse indeed
When Ellie kicks the food and tells David they are eating people, he says it was a Last Resort ( i connect it with movie Wrong Turn Last Resort which also had cannibalism)
The points at which I've cried so far (already knowing they are going to happen) : sarah's death, henry's and sam's deaths, and the final scene
Feel like this episode being split into 2 would've been the better option, but still loved this one
When David said “we’ll bury your father in the spring”…
No you won’t, because we’re going to eat him
Ellie went straight beast mode
