When Joel had the first panic attack, I instantly knew what was happening. I was surprised he was able to get control of it. I had a panic attack in 2018 when I was buying a house and working 100+ hours a week as a supervisor. A guy called off, meaning I'll have to work a 16-hour shift back to back with 4 hours off. I couldn't breathe, Joel was right, it felt like I was going to die. Everything just felt hopeless. Luckily, my brother was with me and recognized what was happening. It lasted about 20 minutes. It just feels like you have no control over anything.

Man, I was really balling when Joel had his confession with Tommy. The way he felt paralyzed when that fungus sniffing dog was approaching her. How in that moment he felt weak 😭
The Goodbye Girl - a movie about learning to trust and fear of abandonment - being the film the townspeople were watching was so appropriate for this episode!
Joel is having panic attacks because he's beginning to think of Ellie like his daughter, and he's afraid of getting her killed. Him trying to pawn her off is to take that fear away.
Another Easter Egg that was missed was Joel teaching her about football as they arrived at the University, which was word for word with one of the conversation options in the game. Not to mention Ellie trying to learn to whistle which happened a lot in the game
So are we just going to not mention the fact that had Dina in the episode? From the conversation they had in the game. Where she says “I saw that actually I remember thinking who’s this string bean girl eating all the jerky”. 😅 I just had a huge feeling that they’d do that!
In the game I don’t think they ever made it to the large part of the village. They went straight to the generator room than the raider fight, chasing after Ellie than on to Colorado! I think Dina reference her stealing jerky was after Joel and Ellie return to Jackson and after events of First Game

They really had the heart of the game in mind with this episode. It was very well done. There is a reason the game was so powerfully felt. This episode reflects that.
The part when Ellie and Joel discuss life after the mission. Joel describes the farmhouse in the open with sheep. Then compare that with the game in part 2. That brought me to tears a bit.
Graham Greene and Elaine Miles absolutely steal that scene. Just such fantastic actors. Greene in particular is a legend. Such a nice surprise having them pop up in this episode.

What I love about the show is the crazy déjà vu I get. In the last episode, I completely forgot about the sniper in the tower. When he started shooting at them, I just felt like I was playing the game again so many years ago.
This episode was my favorite one so far! So many laughs and moments of nostalgia from the game. I also loved the cover that Craig Mazin daughter "Jessica Mazin" performed by Depeche Mode at the end scene. It was so deeply needed to symbolize the evolution of Ellie's relationship with Joel and the fact of how she loves him as a father now.
from what I remember about the Goodbye Girl, Richard Dreyfus moves in with the mother and daughter. Her ex-boyfriend sublet the apartment they were living in without letting her know when he dumped her. But then it's been decades since I saw the movie. That would also explain why I didn't recognize the dialogue they played from the movie. Lot's of stuff going on in this episode. I recognized Graham Green and Elaine Miles immediately from his many roles and her from Northern Exposure. I enjoyed that scene a lot.
How they added some new things for Tommy and Maria is making me nervous for what's to happen in Part II for them and The dialogue with Ellie saying, “Joel, you gotta get up.” gave me huge flashbacks from Part 2.

It’s been so fun watching this. In the last episode, when the guy was in the tower with a sniper, it just gave me so much déjà vu from playing that video game so many years ago. What a amazing show. I forgot all about that until he started shooting at them.
It also looked like Tommy was building a hanging scaffold at fist so it causes a little distrust, but then you find out it was an electrical pole when you see the other ones they made and realize the community is good.
An Easter egg you may have missed was the girl Ellie yelled at (while eating for the first time in Jackson) wasn’t just her socializing i belive they were introducing Dina. Dina said in the second game that the very first time she saw Ellie she was “shoveling food in her mouth” so I have a feeling it’s her!

The Mandalorian delivers Grogu to The Client, but realizes he can't separate from the child; so they reunite. Grogu is sent off with Luke Skywalker later, but Din Djarin and Grogu are miserable without each other; so they reunite. This episode of Last of Us felt like a Mandalorian episode. 'At dawn, we go our separate ways. . . Girl, I'm just playing. Holla atcha boy.' :D :D :D
You forgot the map of the US shows other Firefly bases/outposts. It shows the Santa Barbara base in California and a possible reference to the WLF controlled area of Seattle. Also the reference of the panic attacks and the farm with sheep directly foreshadowes Ellies future with Dina at the ending of TLOU2 As a matter of fact, this whole episode was like a TLOU2 easter egg with all those shots of Jackson, WY.
The Native American woman at the beginning in the cabin, is Marilyn from the 90’s show Northern Exposure….I only recognized her because we just finished watching the whole series a couple of months ago….Come to think of it, the woman’s husband was a side character on the show as well 😂
I think I saw somewhere that the show was being developed around the same time the 2nd game was. And now with that knowledge, some of these references to the 2nd game make way more sense.
There was a scene in the town when Tommy was giving them the tour and they walk to the sheep in the pen and Ellie says look sheep or something like that. I don't know it that was adlib by Bella but if you look at Pedro in the background it looks like he loses it and is laughing but he turns away from the camera.
This episode has hit me the hardest by far, especially joel thinking he sees sarah bc when you lose somebody that’s exactly what happens to you, at least once.
I BELIVE this might be the first TV show where every episode has made me a bit emotional. And im 39 so I have seen a few. Well. First 2 episodes didn't make me feel much. Even with minimal action and slow pacing, this show's combo of great writing and excellent acting from interesting characters keeps people glued to the screen... The girl paying Ellie steals the show! great to see Luna again , loved him as the ghostrider and terminator .
There father daughter relationship is so cute, but I was surprised that the Joels brother storyline wasn't longer. I felt like they just got there and left 5 minutes later, but im glad that Joel let Ellie choose what she wanted instead of making that choice for her. EASTER EGG: Wasnt the Joel from the video games in that group that they encountered? I feel like the guy Joel took down kind of looked like him, but maybe Im wrong.
I need to relisten to what you said about Tommy on the radio and the settlement. I thought he said Maria was a few months pregnant, so he's been there for a while, right?
Yeah especially trying to make Joel look more weak ,vulnerable and having panic attacks so they can try and justify how easily he's caught out in the second game. If only you could change how he was portrayed in the 1st game hey !
There is a "blink and you'll miss it" few frames when they are first being shown around the settlement, where a man with a banjo is standing on a porch. Unsure if this was actually Gustavo (the composer for the game and tv series), but in TLOU Part II, he appears in the town as an NPC playing the banjo in a rocking chair. Another nice little setup for S2, it looked like it was Dina staring at Ellie eating. Based on dialogue from the second game, Dina says she first saw Ellie shovelling food into her face like a maniac, back when they first arrived at the town.
That Depeche Mode song at the end is the cover of the same song played at the end of Episode 1, which foreshadowed the "trouble" that has now been found. 🙃
I definitely noticed they mentioned shimmer as a new young foal but becomes the horse she rides in TLOU Part 2. I also wonder if the girl looking at her while they were eating is meant to be Dina.
A few Easter eggs from the second game, as soon as they enter Jackson the song “it won’t last” I believe it’s called is played. Ellie meets shimmer from the second game and I’m not 100% sure but the girl when they were eating looks very much like Dina.
Really stoked for next week covering the Left Behind DLC, which has some of the best scenes in the game. Don't want to spoil anything but there's an amazing scene that pays off some foreshadowing earlier in the series. Don't miss it!
Set pieces were absolutely beautiful this episode. The scene with the bridge covered in snow was gorgeous. If Wyoming really looks like that i might have to visit sometime
DINA (maybe ) looking at Ellie from behind the pole in the saloon was awesome setting up their future .. loved this episode just wish they had some infected at the university to add some zombie action! Or maybe the shoot out at the rench when ellie runs away.
It also seems like Joel comes off as rude, possibly racist towards Tommy’s wife, but if you remember his daughter was mixed so he clearly sees a parallel that his little brother is following his footsteps and brings back alllll the pain he’s been stuffing down and not dealing with that’s eating him alive from the inside. The chest pains are panic attacks and clearly from his paternal love for Ellie.
I'm not sure where you're getting racism from? Just because Joel was standoffish with a black person doesn't mean he was doing so because they are black. Comments like this are why actual racists think everyone is politically correct.
Not gonna lie I haven’t watched this series yet. I don’t always just watch cause everyone else is and I’ve not played the game though I’m an avid video game fan, it just didn’t seem my “jam”, but I’ve seen Pedro in the Mandalorian and Boba Fett and several other movies he’s been in, so I clicked on this video out of curiosity, he plays the father figure masterfully, his reactions are wonderfully muted and so intuitive that you absolutely believe he cares deeply for his “child”/“foundling”, he doesn’t overact it in any way and these reactions are so subtle, intuitive, and nuanced that you as the viewer can attribute so many additional qualities/motivations that he provides anyone watching with the ability to imprint a million qualities upon what happens. It’s like “acting astrology” it becomes that one thing or one way that almost everyone wants it to be and is familiar to each viewer in a way that feels deeply personal. He is a master and seems such a great person to know outside of acting. His SNL appearance was awesome too. Thanks for giving me a real reason to want to watch this show.
Also the reference of the panic attacks and the farm with sheep directly foreshadowes Ellies future with Dina at the ending of TLOU2
As a matter of fact, this whole episode was like a TLOU2 easter egg with all those shots of Jackson, WY.
Best moment in this episode Joel Tommy reunited
The Native American woman at the beginning in the cabin, is Marilyn from the 90’s show Northern Exposure….I only recognized her because we just finished watching the whole series a couple of months ago….Come to think of it, the woman’s husband was a side character on the show as well 😂
17:41 "80s means trouble’"
The acting was insane this episode shout out to the cast
This was one of Pedro Pascal's best performances on the show so far!
Thanks
I think I saw somewhere that the show was being developed around the same time the 2nd game was. And now with that knowledge, some of these references to the 2nd game make way more sense.
There was a scene in the town when Tommy was giving them the tour and they walk to the sheep in the pen and Ellie says look sheep or something like that. I don't know it that was adlib by Bella but if you look at Pedro in the background it looks like he loses it and is laughing but he turns away from the camera.
6:45 ... I have no knowledge of the game, totally blank slate... incredibly relieved to hear this
This episode has hit me the hardest by far, especially joel thinking he sees sarah bc when you lose somebody that’s exactly what happens to you, at least once.
I BELIVE this might be the first TV show where every episode has made me a bit emotional. And im 39 so I have seen a few. Well. First 2 episodes didn't make me feel much. But after that... phew.. can't wait to see where it goes next. I have not played the games myself but I have watched playthroughs so I have a slight idea about what's coming.
The settlement entrance gate is giving me serious Hardhome vibes.
Kicking Bird with the ultimate cameo in Ep. 6
A cool fact about the final song is that it's sung by Craig Mazin's (Showrunner) daughter, further reinforcing the father/daughter theme of the show.
no way, the daughter's talented too!? runs in the fam them genes!
@@henrietta9206 Has a whiff of nepotism about it though
@@Gerishnakov tots
Craig talks about this at the end of The Last of Us podcast. It’s worth a listen!
Wooo! I've been waiting for your video on episode 6! Excited when I get to catch them early! :D
Thanks! I try to finish my Episode videos as quickly as possible. There's a lot of stuff to cover!
@@emergencyawesome oh for sure! I've been subbed to you since either your Flash Season 1 or your first GoT vids, I'm not sure anymore lol. You've always been on top of it and awesome content!
My favorite Easter egg is Ellie meeting shimmer in this episode seeing shimmer as a baby was pretty cool for those who might not know shimmer is Ellie’s horse in the last of us 2
I like how they also put the list of supplies from the game!
Pedro.emmy. that is all.
Even with minimal action and slow pacing, this show's combo of great writing and excellent acting from interesting characters keeps people glued to the screen... The girl paying Ellie steals the show! great to see Luna again , loved him as the ghostrider and terminator .
They have done such a great job 👏🏽 with this series. This was the game that got me into gaming again and I just love it
Man such a beautiful episode, the ending is amazing
There father daughter relationship is so cute, but I was surprised that the Joels brother storyline wasn't longer. I felt like they just got there and left 5 minutes later, but im glad that Joel let Ellie choose what she wanted instead of making that choice for her. EASTER EGG: Wasnt the Joel from the video games in that group that they encountered? I feel like the guy Joel took down kind of looked like him, but maybe Im wrong.
I think that is sposed to come later as the charakter called David if i´m not wrong.
God damn you are quick Charlie
I need to relisten to what you said about Tommy on the radio and the settlement. I thought he said Maria was a few months pregnant, so he's been there for a while, right?
Was literally about to go to bed…YOU ARE SO FAST
KIN is also a reference to the introduction of Ellie's future wife, Dina and their remote farm.
That couple with the rabbits must have stored a lot of Hostess snacks to last 20+ years of the pandemic.
LOLed at “The Carpenterrrrrr 😃”
Great to see Elaine Miles and Graham Greene reunited 30 years after Northern Exposure!
The verbatim moments were spot on. You can tell Neil is collaborating on this.
Joel’s Sheep Farm reference when Ellie and Dina end up having the same Farm at the end of tlou2
Dina spotting
Isn’t episode 7 the flashback episode where we learn about how Ellie found out that she’s immune?
I reckon so, would make sense since left behind covers the period between Joel getting hurt and the winter section in the game.
It also has the gay kids, cuckmans dream
Yep that it will be.It shows how she got bitten.
Nice to see they are mixing stuff with the second game already to give more context to the viewers. Specially with those cameos 👀
no problem!
Second game destroyed the franchise bro😂
Yeah especially trying to make Joel look more weak ,vulnerable and having panic attacks so they can try and justify how easily he's caught out in the second game. If only you could change how he was portrayed in the 1st game hey !
Where do they get all the ammo?
There is a "blink and you'll miss it" few frames when they are first being shown around the settlement, where a man with a banjo is standing on a porch. Unsure if this was actually Gustavo (the composer for the game and tv series), but in TLOU Part II, he appears in the town as an NPC playing the banjo in a rocking chair.
Another nice little setup for S2, it looked like it was Dina staring at Ellie eating. Based on dialogue from the second game, Dina says she first saw Ellie shovelling food into her face like a maniac, back when they first arrived at the town.
Thank you for showing scenes and comparing from the games. I plan to play it after this show is over so I don’t get any spoilers
Canmore, Alberta... lookin' good!
The reunion scene was EXACTLY the same as Sansa reuniting with Jon Snow
Damn The Good Bye Girl, I loved that movie when I was a kid. This show, every episode is so rewatchable!
It good to Tommy wife Maria in this episode
anyone think the girl ellie yelled at when she's eating was dina?
That Depeche Mode song at the end is the cover of the same song played at the end of Episode 1, which foreshadowed the "trouble" that has now been found. 🙃
I definitely noticed they mentioned shimmer as a new young foal but becomes the horse she rides in TLOU Part 2.
I also wonder if the girl looking at her while they were eating is meant to be Dina.
Yes me too
Thanks!
No problem! Thanks so much for the support!
A few Easter eggs from the second game, as soon as they enter Jackson the song “it won’t last” I believe it’s called is played. Ellie meets shimmer from the second game and I’m not 100% sure but the girl when they were eating looks very much like Dina.
Easter egg the place they had lunch with the lights hanging in the ceiling is the same place where Dina and Ellie danced.
best episode of the series so far
Really stoked for next week covering the Left Behind DLC, which has some of the best scenes in the game. Don't want to spoil anything but there's an amazing scene that pays off some foreshadowing earlier in the series. Don't miss it!
What an absolutely Fantastic episode!
It was great!
Does anybody know who did the haunting rendition of Depeche Mode’s “Never let me down again” at the end of the episode?
It's Craig Mazin's daughter, Jessica Mazin
That girl that ellie basically shoos away, possibly a dina cameo?
100%
Set pieces were absolutely beautiful this episode. The scene with the bridge covered in snow was gorgeous. If Wyoming really looks like that i might have to visit sometime
DINA (maybe ) looking at Ellie from behind the pole in the saloon was awesome setting up their future .. loved this episode just wish they had some infected at the university to add some zombie action! Or maybe the shoot out at the rench when ellie runs away.
Everybody loved contractors. LMAO
I can't wait for next week dlc episode left behind we get to see Riley
"Told me about Sarah" and everything after was powerful acting!!!
The old hunter at the beginning of the episode was Rains Fall from RDR2.
lol
Truly enjoy your content too keep up the good work!
