Ok , I’m a 54 yr old female , born and raised in fiji . Grew up in the 80s with all the great 80s music . MJ , Lionel Richie , George benson , Al Jarreau and my favourite Steve Winwood . I’d buy records and read over and over again the credits. Used to see John JR Robinson as the drummer . Have always loved the drums and so wished I could have learned - sadly no music classes in Fiji back then . Fast forward ….
Living in NZ , about to turn 40 and finally said I want to learn the drums .
Emailed Mr Robinson to share my story .
Guess what ……..
He replied .
I have a copy and treasure that email .
It’s all about the drums and bass
When I hear Higher Love while im at work I always think about J.R.......In a manly way of course!
JR vibes like a dude thats just living in a perpetual dreamstate lmao. Like dude just wakes up and gets calls to jam on some of the most iconic albums and tracks of all TIME. WTF lmao! Love it man!!!
Hey John, thankyou so so much for asking my question, about the intro to higher love. I love JRs playing. That intro and song is one of the greatest of all time. Much love from Melbourne Australia. ✌
He's such a blast. One of my favorite drummers! The man can SWING!
JR is a groove master!! One of my favourite drummers of all time!! 🥁👌🏻😎
JR played on my song The Friend of Africa. He is absolutely amazing! It was such an honor to work with him as well as Abe Laboriel and Marty Walsh.
Fantastic drummer with a ton of experience and great feel...and a former Iowan! Met him during his PASIC convention session about 10 years ago. Recently found out the vocal director I drummed for in my high school show choir (back in 1985-86) was in the drumline with JR in high school. Small world sometimes.
best musical drummer.
John, Don't know him by J.R, met him in Memphis, great Artist...
INDEED, John Fogerty, best part meeting Donny Jerard, Recorded my favorite song ever, so Thanks...
I'll be sharing this on my production page. Kid's need to know this stuff.
Wonderful.
Bet JR got as many gigs cause he's fun to hang out with as he did fr being a monster drummer. I assume JR and kenny aranoff r good buds
Awesome, wow I can hear John’s stories all day long, god blessed him
I love to hear J.R thank God. As a music teacher, I thank God for my career and my wife.
Cool
To me, this; the Palmer stuff in the mid 80's, Gabriel stuff, was just kool. Marotta, Keltner, J. R....🎧🥁🎶💥✌🏾. Not to mention J.R being the unknown player to me, on all the hits I heard and enjoyed as a kid. Now, I know....😉
thanks jon, i had no idea about this guy.
Say Healthy Hello from Taiwan! Welcome Back, Again!
Enjoyed the interview. Wow, what a catalog.
maestro, es una joya esta entrevista . Gracias y saludos. Stay safe
Weird! I looked it up one day and I found that it said Steve Ferrone played on that song. Can't believe everything out there.
Rick Beato should've had this song as one of the greatest drum intros of all time.
☺
